    I served aboard the USS Forrestal for 39 months as a Radioman. I was a plank owner. It was a shock to me to hear of the fire. I left the Navy in 1959, so I was not there for the fire. But I could always imaging how it must have been. May God rest the souls of those who died that day.

      This is the story i have had confirmed many times. john mccain wet started his plane shooting huge flames into a plane behind him loaded with old questionable 1000 lb bombs . one exploded, i could be wrong, but anyway, most of his shipmates hated him and called him johnny wetstart.
      He did many horrible things including making treasonous recording against america while as a POW. they also called him songbird. anyone have more exact detail ????
      I also think he was part of the MK ultra trauma based mind control program and was used by those controlling the war.

      He did wet start, it touched off a fuel pod and the F-4 missile fired due to faulty electrical pigtail. His daddy Admiral John S. McCain Jr. had little Johnnies "accident" covered up.

    Hi, Cliff. Thanks for recording your recollection of the events that day. I was ship's company on the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA-31 (V3, V6 and COD Crew). On that day we pulled within visual range of the Forrestal as smoke billowed from the flight deck. We provided firefighting crews to assist with the blaze and evacuated many of the wounded to our ship. It was truly an All Hands effort. If memory serves me correctly the Forrestal proceeded to Subic Bay in the Phillippines before returning to the States. Like many I've watched flight deck video of the disaster and recreations of the event. The Forrestal crew fought bravely and courageously to control the fire and literally save that ship. On that day, many heroes were made and sadly some were lost. Thank you for your service and for preserving your account of the events that day.

    I attended the CG/naval firefighting class in Virginia in 1980, the first thing they show you is film of the USS Forrestal Fire and the mistakes made. Later I learned the truth of what caused the fire. The NAVY buried the truth.

    • @erniew5805
      @erniew5805 6 лет назад

      the fire on the enterprise later was caused by a turbine tug's exhaust discharging on a zuni pod for several minutes. then at least the fire fighting was done with foam. so they didn't wash burning fuel below. in that case no blame was given

    • @slipperyrock9975
      @slipperyrock9975 6 лет назад +3

      Yes, I am not familiar with the enterprise, but the foam and water shower cancelled each other out on the Forrestal, and then consider the first 2 fire fight teams walked into hell, and honestly I cant see them doing anything else. Those are the real Heros, walked into hell, and knew it.

    Cliff Ashley, I was a Quartermaster on the USS Rupertus (DD-851) on July 29, 1967. We were on plane guard that morning and were the first ship alongside to assist with firefighting help. Our lifeboat picked up a Forrestal crewman who jumped off the flight deck right before the first explosion. I further remember that the Forrestal lost a man overboard around 0300 that morning. I had the 0400-0800 watch and watched the search. We on the bridge heard him holler help, and watched as the helicopter swooped in to pick him up. He lost his grip about 5-10 feet out of the water and he was never found after that. Little did we know what was going to happen later that morning. I'm also from Dallas, TX.

So much so that the Navy had to change their times and routes to strategic targets. Mccain was nicknamed SONGBIRD by the North Vietnamese and given special treatment for the info he was giving them. Not to mention the Anti U.S. tapes he made for them while his fellow POW's were being tortured. Mccain is a piece of shit and continues to prove it every single day. Why would any former POW vote against going back to Vietnam and searching for possible living MIA and POW's?? I hate to soften your Boner for SONGBIRD but the guy is a pure scumbag.

    One fact stands out on both the Forrestal and the POW incidents involving MCCAIN. His crewmates wanted to arrest him and throw him overboard. In the Hanoi Hilton his mates wanted to shut him up permanently because they knew he was known as the Prince and betrayed B52 bombing run positions. Those closest to him knew the truth about his hotdogging and dangerous engine wetstarts. Many died instantly on the Forrestal when an A4 pilot dropped 2, 1000 lb bombs on the deck and they cooked and exploded. A wet start spills fuel on the deck and helped the catastrophe along. Don't doubt honest POWs who knew McCain and those brave men who previously fought the fire while McCain got below not helping, watching on CCTV. Apparently uninjured. Then R and R in Saigon and Paris.
    Again Nixon pardoned him for war crimes. Watch current and past Vietnam war documentaries. He was implicated in passing on everything he knew to the North Vietnamese. Bombing runs had to be halted to Hanoi in 67,68 because they knew exactly where to put the AAA. Hanoi John was his other name.

      Alan, can you offer any proof that his crew mates wanted to arrest him and throw him overboard. If those closest to him knew the truth died instantly on the Forrestal then how do you have this information? Who cares if McCain did not support Trump. Plenty of people don't support Trump. Trump is only out for himself. Notice every time he goes to golf, which he claimed he would never have time to do, it's at one of his own properties? Care to guess why that is? Those rooms for the Secret Service and anyone else that has to go with him don't come free. I'm sure you were all up in arms about Obama golfing all the time. Yeah, fuck Trump!

    FYI, wet starts can dump excess fuel on the ground. If the amount of fuel that flows on the deck is large enough and runs in the direction of the wing on the opposite side of the ship, when the engine is started it will ignite the fuel on the deck. McCain’s plane being pointed at the other plane or towards the open ocean makes no difference at that point.

    I'm not taking any sides, but I have a few questions...the History Channel did a documentary on this & said the pilot was Jim Bangort(sp?), he flipped the switch at 10:51 am that sent an electrical anomaly, of which the safety pin was not in & that started the chain of events. Where was McCain in this? That doc could also have wrong info. Also if Tokyo Rose is a propaganda tool, could they have been forcing McCain to read that script bcuz they knew he was the prince? Propaganda was used all the time in WW11 and in the Gulf War, so if I'm missing info, I'm sorry, I just started reading of these events since McCain's passing.
    Update: There are docs on RUclips that interview those who were there, lieutenants, etc. McCain's A4 was on fire as his aircraft was hit & he was hit with alot of shrapnel, since the Zuni from an F4 hit next to him. There are film footages where u can see this in 'then' real time. Pretty horrific. The trained firefighters were wiped out & had to train in a nano second others. They used water that spread the fuel flames further & foam, which would have been the ideal, but the water diluted the foam. Many errors were made that day. Discovery has docs, also. To all who were there, I'm glad u made it back safe & condolences to family/friends of those who didn't.

    Equador, is not a word. Ecuador, is a country in South America, you can "cross Ecuador" but not on a ship. The Equator, is an imaginary line that you can cross in a ship as it circles the earth, here is a good definition. "An equator of a rotating spheroid (such as a planet) is its zeroth circle of latitude (parallel). It is the imaginary line on the spheroid's surface, equidistant from its poles, dividing it into northern and southern hemispheres."

    Operations on a carrier are recorded 24/7 . The Forrestal was no exception. Every effort to continually improve operational readiness , efficiency and safety.
    Watch, for yourself, the tapes of that day with crewmen of the USS Forrestal. Note the crew with water hoses washing the fire suppressant foam Sadly off the deck. The tape saves, for us, this tragic mistake but valuable lesson.
    Also notice the Petty Officer run up to the aircraft loaded with ordinance encroached by flames. To assist it's pilot to escape. when a bomb fuses or "cooks off" the man evaporates in the cloud. The pilot sees he is doomed as well. Heroes one and all this crew fought for one another . The death toll could have been far worse. The tapes, the record of this fateful day are available. There Were many changes made after this event. There is no need for speculation or blind reliance on conspiracy theories. No need to be influenced with the hate mongering of political rhetoric. McCain was one of many who acted with honor and bravery. Every man a hero that day, not one dodged the draft.
    God bless the men and women of our Armed Forces. Remember and honor those who did not run from their duty during a Draft. Fight for those veterans. There are politicians seeking to privatise the VA at the behest of special interests that contribute to their campaign . Special interests ready to make a fortune. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours bullshit going on disgraceful.. Pay to play wow I don't know about the technical definition of treason but that sure feels like it. The loud and continuos extreme rhetoric of fear and hate. A daily Flood of propaganda, misinformation, alternative realities and outright lies. This parade of embarrassing, disgraceful arrogant behavior front and center on the world stage . Never ending scurrilous flow of scandals for whispered gossip and tabloid fare. @@scottlanglitz2037 The Forrestal fire changed everything about fighting fires on ships. After the fire all men aboard a ship had to train to fight fires. You're right, a pilot would not have been expected to fight the fire at that time. A problem on the Forrestal was that most of the fire crew with training had been killed and when others who had no training aimed water hoses at the fire, it spread jet fuel across the deck causing a much larger fire. The Forrestal fire was very well investigated and the US Navy changed their training because of it.

      Anne I agree fully with your statement. The Forrestal fire showed the Navy that everyone need at the least shipboard firefighting and all flight deck personnel needed aircraft firefighting. The thing a lot of people don't understand is those guys just kept going back after explosions. After the entire crash crew was killed the squadron personnel took over. And after many of them were killed or injured the ship personnel went into action on the flight deck the heroism displayed on that day was amazing. A former sailer Word Carol did a youtube video about the Forrestal fire proving John McCain was innocent. Ward served on the Harry Truman. McCain flew a A4 Skyhawk bomber not a F4 Phantom fighter/bomber. A missile was accidentally launched from a F4 during startup causing this catastrophic accident. I think the roomer about McCain causing this started around the time he was running for president. Just my thoughts. So someone decided to blame McCain for the deaths of 134 shipmates/brothers in arms during wartime! This is really hard to believe.
    The reason McCain was trashed by Trump is because McCain he was pro some kind of government health assistance like Obama care. He tried for years but failed and finally got behind Affordable Care Act! McCain was/is the only republican who wanted this. So the rich get richer and we get no health insurance. Follow The Money!!

    It was an accident contributed by MANY factors other than the pilots itself. Training to substitution of parts...
    www.jag.navy.mil/library/investigations/USS%20FORRESTAL%20FIRE%2012%20AUG%2069%20PT%203.pdf
    It's long but let's cut to the chase of WHAT happened...
    3. The poor and outdated doctrinal and technical documentation of ordance and aircraft equipment and procedures, evident at all levels command, was a contributing cause of the accidental rocket firing.
    4. That no improper acts of commission or omission by personnel embarked in FORRESTAL directly contributed to the inadvertent firing of the ZUNI rocket from F-4 #110.
    5. That a single ZUNI rocket was fired from the port inboard station of F-4 #110 at 10-51-21H due to the simultaneous malfunctioning of the following components:
    a. CA42282 pylon electrical disconnect.
    b. Safety switch of the TER-7.
    c. LAU-10/A shorting device.
    =========================
    8. That the Naval Air Systems Command erred in:
    *a. Changing the wiring of the TER-7 mod -527 so that the safety switch is shorted to ground in the "SAFE" position rather than open as in models -505 and -521.*
    *b. Issuing the TER-7 mod -527to the fleet without promulgating a complete description of the equipment and procedures for conducting circuit testing and checking based on the new circuitry.*
    *c. Changing direction of throw of the HOME-STEP switch in the TER-7 mod -527 from that of the TER-7 mod -505 and -521 (see enclosure (368)).*
    *9. That the electrical safety pin for the TER-7 is poorly designed in the ordnance pins which are used in the AERO-7 Sparrow Launcher and the LAU-17/A pylon, and which will not reliably acuate the TER-7 safety switch, can be mistakenly inserted in the TER-7 pylon.*
    *10. That the existence of ordnance safety pins which are physically interchangeable ... functionally interchangeable creates a potentially dangerous situation.*
    =======================
    This was an accident. A terrible accident caused by #8 and shows just HOW that ZUNI rocket fired off. Systems command did some modifications of the TER-7. Combined with poor documentation, it was an accident waiting to happen. It just did that day on the Forrestal. Why it was so surprising to pilots sitting there waiting on their aircraft to be rearmed/fueled.
    8.a. is probably the contributing factor the ZUNI rocket fired off. In the "SAFE" position the switch was shorted to ground, not open as in previous models. With crappy documentation the entire fleet was issued the modification WITHOUT TESTING.
    Just like Gus Grissom and the Liberty Bell escape hatch that simply blew.
    There's no "wet starts" involved. There is some very petty aviators and cohorts out there who'd blame everyone but their political hack selves, though.

      The objective facts are that McCain had nothing to with starting the fire. Watch the flight deck film and see for yourself.

    I served on the Forrestal...later...73-76. I worked in IOIC (Ship's Intelligence Center). The 67 fire was something we studied every time we were in port in Norfolk and went to firefighting school.
    John McCain did NOT create the fire. First the A4 had no afterburner...so I don't see how one performs a wet start.
    A Zuni from an F4 on the starboard side fired and hit the A4 beside of McCain's. That's what the official review says.

    • @Cowcharge
      @Cowcharge 6 лет назад

      The rocket fired when the pilot switched from external to internal power, because to speed up launches they were short-cutting procedures by connecting the electrical pigtail earlier than the -just-prior-to-launch normal procedure. And the safety pin was blown off by the wind. You can't intentionally do a wet start on an A-4 anyway.

    his name is Wet Start Mcain, back in 1967 you could pump fuel into the jet, then start it causing an explosion, Wet Start Mcain liked to do this as a joke to scare the pilot behind him, on the uss Forestal John Mcaine did a wet start, causing a rocket on the plane behind him to launch and in a second 3 other plains on the main deck exploded from the rocket and 3 USN Officers died, Two Thanks Givings ago, i ran into my 3rd navy vet that served on the forrestal, this man had 2nd degree burns on his legs from the fire yet he survived, that night there was a witch hut everyone looking for John Mcain to siently throw him overboard into the ocean in the dark, but at that time no one on the Forrestal knew his father Admiral John Mcaine Admiral of the same Navel Fleet of ships got his son off the ship while the other silers were fighting the fire and dying

    here has never been more proof of the saying “I read it on the Internet or I saw it on youtube so it MUST be true”.
    You believe in either unfounded or half assed truths and statements making claims of McCain’s role in the Forrestal disaster. You do not read the accident investigations or official reports instead relying on bullcrap stories of people that were never there and rhetoric based on hatred of the man. Inferences of how his father and grandfather influenced reports. Total and complete misunderstanding the “wet start” and the resulting flames. In my twenty years on the flightline, I saw many hot starts as they are really called and not one of them ever presented and real danger unless you had a total brain fart and stood aft of the engines during start.
    Now, if McCain really did a Wet Start, how in the hell do these flames do a 180 and cross the flight deck to the F4’s and ignite a Zuni? If you look at how the aircraft are parked, the A4’s exhausts are all facing out the port side and the F4’s exhaust the starboard side. Explain that little inconsistency.
    If you believe that McCain had anything to do with the fire, you are sadly mistaken and a fool.
    I do get a kick out of the fools that claim that he was such a bad pilot that he got himself shot down. Yep, couldn’t outrun, out turn and his x-ray vision failed when he didn’t see that darn SAM accelerating to up to Mach 4 coming up from under him. If you believe this, you are dumber than a box of rocks and have no concept of the issue.

      The USS Forestal was known for the numerous fires, I spent 8 months of board this ship and the Forrestal had many nicknames as did all the carriers I was on, USS Intrepid (USS Decrepit) USS Saratoga (sinking Sara) Trust me, the USS Forest Fire and USS Zippo were terms of endearment for that ship as any sailor in those day will tell you. You Sir were obviously not in the Navy as you would understand. Back in those days(early 70's) we were called baby killers and regularly spit on when in uniform so being called sick demented mother fuckers ....... well I'll considerer the source.

      Kevin Hill I've done time on the Forrestal the Saratoga while they were parked nose to nose in Mayport. Had you been around when those fires took place that took so many live you would not have called it the USS Zippo. Every ship I've been on has had fires onboard and we never made fun of it. As for the term's of endearment maybe it was for the "fuck the Navy guys" but it wasn't for the sailors who respected the guys who gave their live to save that ship. So fuck off little bitch.

    • @motors5153
      @motors5153 6 лет назад

      Scott put down your assault weapon and take a pill. No where in my post did I ever mention or intended to disrespect the people who gave up their lives or became disabled on the Forestal. The Forestal had earned many names because of the history of major fires it had on it and if you really served aboard this ship for any length of time you would have heard it many times and understood the context it was used as it had nothing to do with the loss of lives. I am not aware of any ship in the Navy that was not given a name by it's crew and it had nothing to do with disrespecting past or present crew. Hey if your trying to pick a fight and use your Facebook courage to feel good about yourself try understanding the context of the reply. Try to use facts and keep the name calling to a minimum as it does little to make your point. Try again.
