- Today we have a build for Scar in Dungeons & Dragons. This is the build you bust out if you're sick of spellcasters in D&D 5e.

Surprised there was no Inflict Wounds Spell somewhere in there. His destructive alchemy just screams Inflict Wounds lol
Sun in shadow touched feat
@@zwordsman perfect lol
Or touch of death
How long until someone unironically asks why you didn’t use the magic tattoos in Tasha’s Cauldron?
They're magic items, right? Unless it's an artificer, Tulok doesn't incoroporate magic items in his builds
@@STORMB999 that’s the joke, he also made this video before Tasha’s Cauldron came out
I know it's a joke, but I don't think any of those tattoos would actually work for Scar... don't have the book on me so I can't double check
@@er1cdoom Blood Fury Tattoo fits well. Eldritch Claw Tattoo could also work if reflavored a bit.
@@gerardomena4250 um... 👆
On the seventeenth day of X-Mas, Tulok gave to me...
Seventeen Philosopher's Stone shards
Sixteen Captain Americas
Fifthteen Britsh Ninjas
Fourteen Edgelords crawling
Thirteen "I Need Healing"
Twelve Turtle Tackles
Eleven "A Whole New World" sings
Ten Bananas Stolen
Nine Ribcages exploded
Eight Ki Blast shots on
Seven Bahamut's Mega Flares
Six Headbangers Banging
FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE TROOOOOPEERS SHOOOOOOOOOOOOT
Four Toads shielding
Three Underpants thrown
Two Idaho SMASHES
And a Mind Stone on a robotic frame.
How long did it take you to think of that fully?
@@essejay7952 Surprisingly not a whole lot of time...
this is the build ive been waiting for ever since i found this channel lets goooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Dude I am WITH YOU! I’ve waited so long for this
Did it turn out like you were thinking it would?
@@batmanboy9794 Definitely not, but this build makes a lot more sense than mine. I had him as a 17th level way of long death monk 3rd level transmutation wizard
I love this dude videos, and I’d never see anything cross about him or his content. But. I, for whatever reason, wasn’t expecting a monk build.
I mean I get why, I just thought he’d go for an unarmed fighting , eldritch knight and maybe reskin the weapon bond
"Imagine taking a test and someone punches you in the face 6 times."
I read this comment at the exact moment he said it in the video. Wack
I'm wondering if you would've used way of mercy (ironically) had Tasha's been out, since the Harm options are fairly in line with what the destruction arm does and the Heal options reflect the reconstruction arm.
I understand the lack of element stuff, but that could be covered in the eldritch knight spells.
An Open Hand monk would work great too. The level 17 Quivering Palm ability fits perfectly with Scar's MO of hitting people with his deconstruction ability.
You know, at this point I've got a Chain of Memories full of me asking for builds for Anderson Cooper... I can only hope one day that build will be made!
Lightning fast, as usual, Mason, but I can’t figure out the hint. Vandal Savage? Nymphadora Tonks?
@@kingdomkey01 Tonks would just be a more casty version of the Mystique build.
@@kingdomkey01 isn't it obvious? "chain of memories", memories that are linked together, that means having a good memory, elephants have great memories, Dumbo build confirmed.
A simple and clean hint
@@bean2562 tbf, I don't think we have a Loxodon build yet, do we?
"in case the ishvalin is ishfallin'!" Sir if I hadn't already subscribed rang that bell and liked this video I would have done it just then. Thank you!
That was the moment I hit the video like button. I save hitting it for the first amazing pun in each video lol
Honestly very surprised you didn't give him inflict wounds. His most powerful attack is literally grabbing you and destroying your body with magic. I agree that thematically this build fits Scar, but mechanically I think it could've been done a lot better with more Spellcaster levels.
I'd love to see you make a build for Kirisugu Emyia from Fate/zero.
Just finished a rewatch of Fate/Zero. I think we need to get Saber first tho being that we already have the other 2 kings.
His FGO Assassin self is badass, too.
GUN
@@raisedbybears1991 I also think that heroic spirit Emyia would be really cool to see before his dad. UBW would be really cool to try and translate into d&d.
My vote is either for EMIYA or Lancer(UBW)
"Clench of thr north wind" sounds like some sort of fart joke.
Personally I would have gone with tempest or magic cleric. It provides some in character spells and (in my opinion more importantly) divine favor. He did only beat bradly because of the glare
Day seventeen of paying off (some of)Tulok's student loans
Man this would sing in Theros, pick the thing where you don't believe in magic and at higher levels you can just use Anti-magic field
5:24
"Mold Earth lets you effect ground in a 5' Cuban some way."
Remembered while watching this that scar wears sunglasses because he has red eyes, which is apparently a dead giveaway of an ishvalan, and not the color of their skin. So I guess that's not racist?
Gee, wonder if he is using the mage slayer feat?
Always fun to watch. Eagerly awaiting the chance to see your legendary Beastmaster Warlock Fighter Sorcerer build.
Imagine an order of monks that fought against magic that were built like this...
Like the Five Deadly Venoms meet Men in Black.
Think about it.
Gotta leave a like for "Ish-fallen"
The pun game is strong.
This looks like a crazy fun anti-mage build! I’ll have to try it some time
Alright, hear me out. Swap the Fighter levels for Tempest Cleric. It mostly stays in character since Scar considers himself a agent of god, even though his powers don't come from his god. But now your spells are based on WIS, you get access to Mending, Shatter, Word Of Radiance, Thunderwave, and Inflict Wounds, which are all in character. And Destructive Wrath works great with Fist Of The Four Thunders.
Three levels in Ranger might work as well, but I like the Cleric better.
And for something completely different, Vengeance Paladin might give some good flavor, though that would require a completely different approach to the build that might wind up not fitting as well.
Tulok, thank you so much for doing Scar! I love Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and the builds from that group have all been awesome! I would love to see Greed / the Young Prince at some point! Thanks for the 1 a days! So cool, we’re all really spoiled. I’m using your builds as my advent calendar this year lol
Since Tasha's came out I'd switch 4 Elements Monk for Way of Mercy, you do allow people you're not targeting to live if they don't get in your way and spending 2 ki points for Thunderwave is a going to be hard on that limited resource given that you can learn Thunderwave through Eldridge Knight. Way of Mercy allows you to spend a ki point to deal Necrotic damage to a target you hit with your Unarmed Strike or heal someone you touch (like yourself) equal to your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier, "You also gain a special mask, which you often wear when using the features of this subclass" there's a table you can roll on, but you can also determine it's appearance... Something like a pair of tinted spectacles might help conceal that scar on your face, it's a dead give away.
Thanks Tulok for your great work! This is an amazing build.
Scar. Scarred face. Battle scars. Agni Kai. Prince Zuko. Uncle Iroh.
No Russian, Tulok. Only builds, an Uncle Iroh build.
I’m really hoping to see Yusuke Urameshi this month.
You should do a build for artorias the abyss Walker from dark souls
Which version?
The one you fight in the DLC of 1: Champion fighter with capped str, great weapon master, and the battlemaster fighting style/feat. For maneuvers, Sweeping Attack, Lunging Attack, and Trip Attack. Use a greatsword (sure, he uses it in one hand, but you're other arm is broken, so you literally can't do anything with it. Mechanically, both hands are holding the sword, flavor wise, its not)
If you're trying to build him when he still used his greatshield, I would swap out great weapon master for shield master and use a longsword instead of a greatsword. The maneuvers should still work. I would also take the protection fighting style (champions get 2 fighting styles, so no worries there)
@@crownlexicon5225 I do not think champion fits him before falling to the abyss. Plus he also had Sif which would be a wolf companion- something you cannot get from just fighter. Fighter would definitely be in the build and he would definitely need those maneuvers or perhaps spells that would act very similar.
I would personally think str fighter that multiclasses into ranger. There are arguments for subclasses for each one and that would depend on how you plan on achieving what he is capable of.
@@calebmaxey449 that's fair, I was just trying to modify it as little as possible.
There are many problems with beastmaster and I would suggest instead that Sif is their own character. Specifically, a sidekick from Tasha's, as a wolf martial sidekick was given as an example.
@@crownlexicon5225 but the abyss corrupts and changes. Tasha's did introduce ways to theoretically change one's (sub)class. The fall to the abyss could have been a forced change similar to if one ended up stuck in the shadow fell. I can see how Sif could be a sidekick but I would personally feel better having my companion as part of the character and not something left to chance of dm similar to how Tulok does it.
I would love to see a build for Mega Man from the Mega Man game series.
New armourer subclass for artificer - done
@@morgan2754 mega-man doesnt build his Armor, Dr Light does and technically he IS the armor. Warforged would be appropriate, and I'd consider Celestial Warlock
Artificer seems like a natural fit...I’ve flip-flopped between “Armorer” and “Artillerist” for Megaman.
“Armorer” has a decent spell list and those lightning-nodes make for a decent buster...
...but I feel Artillerist provides the versatility of Megaman: the buster is your force cannon, the elemental spells, etc...
Tulok> purely a shout-out on your editing, but I've always liked the way you format your videos. Moving the box with details left and right makes it easy to navigate the video if I miss something. It's a small thing, but it works really well. Good job!
Nice build. This and the builds for the Elric brothers, Terra, and Toph have helped me get ideas for an Earth spellcaster I've been wanting to make.
Love the build!
Also, this channel inspired me to make a build for Taki from Soul Calibur so thanks for all you do!
(Now all I need is a campaign to play her in)
I really love your opening music choices.
I recently ran a Christmas One-shot at level 6 with my sister-in-law playing this build. She did go down once, but got up and punched a dreagoloth in half with a burning fist. It was awesome, thank you for this holiday gift.
I have to give you massive props for the flavor of making the last monk ability the wall creation, it fits so well with Scar only using creation alchemy at the end of the series. Such a nice detail on your part.
Thanks Tulok!
I always thought mage slayer was an awful feat, but that disadvantage to concentration bit is nice!
Gotta get right next to them though
Forgot how much I love FMA. great build
Been waiting a while for this one.
Perfect timing. This build reminds me of the Occult Slayer prestige class in 3.5.
This is the character I've been waiting for! Maybe it's time to join the Patreon.
Very nice might play this one
I thought this would be a lion king build, but this is cool too I guess ;P
He already built scar from lion king lol

I see you😏
@@lookerl1900 I knoooow, it was a joke :P
@@collegeoffoliage6776 bruh I know
I like this build. It was cool. I was honestly expecting at least a handful of War Magic Wizard to get some Counterspelling up, but this definitely works better.
Re: the comment on the Lion King Scar build being old but you kind of like it still: agreed. It was definitely one of the most innovative videos you did in those days, and also helped me to see how flexible the system could be.
Next character for sure!!!
I just really want a Santa episode. You probably already filmed and made these, but I think it would be just awesome to have a "How to Play Santa Claus in Dungeons & Dragons" episode. LOVE your content
This is AMAZING
A cool Dm would give Scar a touch version of power word kill/pain, just saying to add to be extra terrifying
If he had gone way of the open hand or way of the long death he could have gotten something like that, but then you'd miss out on most of the alchemy stuff from four elements. But four elements is bad, so probably just go with one of those others at home
@@aidanboyle7374 True but Dm can give him Power word if he BEG (Big Evil Guy?)
Thank you.
Love your video's plece keep up the good worke
Very nice. This sounds like its a pretty darn solid build. Lots of pain to dish out whenever you choose. Too bad those awesome monk elemental abilities are so pricey but at least the standard ones will tide you over just fine. Save a few ki points just in case you do need to do something huge like earth wall to seal off a tunnel or whatever and continue murdering spellcasters with impunity.
One thing to note on Wall of Stone, if you make a narrow hallway your enemy can't use their reaction to escape since they are not surrounded on all sides, and they are squeezed by the walls according to the squeeze through narrow spaces rules which gives them all kinds of disadvantages.
Monk fits really well for Scar's mobility. If I were to go for the build, I'd probably go Grave Domain Cleric with a couple fighter levels for unarmed fighting style and action surge. Main spells I'd be looking for from Cleric would be Inflict Wounds and Contagion.
The big combo Scar would do is Channel Divinity->Action Surge Inflict wounds into their face for one massive, face distorting, brain melting destruction transmutation.
In the end, maybe something like 12 levels Cleric, 2 levels Fighter, 6 levels monk.
I am an adult I also squealed a bit with this build.
Wow, I thought this would use the new monk subclass from Tasha's :o
Given the necrotic-healing combos that roll well for each of Scar arms (Even if he doesn't really use much his healing arm)
He did it he did the thing
I’d love to see some dorohedoro builds! Like caiman or noi!
This build makes me want a Mage Hunter subclass for Monk. The class features would probably be something like Patient Defense giving you advantage on saving throws vs. spells, Dispel Magic for X Ki points, and Counterspell for X Ki points (first if you're within melee of the source or target, then later at standard counterspell range). You might make it so that the Dispel Magic and Counterspell affects non-spell magical effects to give it some versatility, and perhaps something like Lesser/Greater Restoration for Ki points (though that's encroaching on Way of Mercy territory).
There's a stat block in the Theros book that has this kind of flavor, the Leonin Iconoclast. It's pared down, as it's an NPC, but it's clearly meant to be a monk (it has Monk Unarmored Defense as well as Evasion). I've always wanted to see someone expand it into a whole subclass. Or do it myself, when I learn how to balance homebrew.
I need a build video for Martian Manhunter to play my Changeling Moon Druid. Also, because I love Martian Manhunter
The hardest part would be intentionally working in a vulnerability to fire - unless you want to repeatedly cast Elemental Bane on yourself for roleplay reasons. That being said, you might be able to work with your DM to allow you to have the vulnerability, perhaps even in exchange for something good - fire is a VERY common damage type. Free perma-flight, maybe.
I love this and I’m hoping one of these 30 days or something in the future you make goblin slayer!
He specifically won't make Goblin Slayer. It was selected from a poll a couple months ago and he agreed to it without knowing the context. After he started watching the show, he was uncomfortable with the subject matter and didn't want to advertise that sort of content on his channel. He put out a little disclaimer in front of one of his videos talking about it, and I think that was about the time that he started the True Strike bit to remind people that he's not obligated to do any build, regardless of how popular it is.
You'll notice there's a skip in the numbered videos. It's in the 20s somewhere
I would say grave domain cleric, with maybe 3 levels rogue for assassin (early Scar is more of a murderer than a warrior and uses surprise on more than one occasion) or monk (way of mercy for monk version of grave domain or four elements for more varied "alchemy" effects). You can still take a bunch of anti-mage spells and feats, but you can do massive damage using inflict wounds (if you have a friend with hold or sleep spells, you can use your actions to set up for a combo that effectively does 12d10 + 4d10/slot necrotic damage for your lvl 1 spell.) The modestly large number of creatures that don't withstand necrotic damage will not be casting spells when they are dead, and you are still a cleric for the creatures who are immune or only have their resistance cancelled. Plus, getting max rolls when healing downed allies will make you a potent albeit uncanonical healer.
Day 17. Just came from a game of Pathfinder. Here now and gotta love FMA builds in general. I’m terms of lower and upper power limits the anime is actually pretty close
Whoooo daily content.
"Mage slayer: brutal against mages with broken legs who don't know misty step"-- Runesmith.
I’m thinking open hand monk + death domain cleric before watching, will update when I find out
Edit: I was way off dang
Is this the pre-viewing wild prediction thread? I'm guess sorcerer, somehow invested entirely in Disintegrate and Shape Stone and nothing else (don't ask me how! Maybe just sell off all other slots for sorcery points?)
I'm betting arcane cleric and way of long death monk
Damn now I want Kimblee!
I combined Death Domain Cleric and Way of Mercy Monk for my spin on a character similar to Scar.
I was looking over the way of mercy subclass with a friend and immediately thought of scar when I saw the healing and harm hands lmao
"chimerah's huh....fucking sweet"
the dub bloopers were my favorite
There might not be a lot of footage but I'd like to see a Sloth build! Even if it is probably just a barbarian with haste 😅
Let see the grinch for the holiday!
Never asked you anything, but now if I could suggest a build, it would be Isaac from Castlevania.
Isaac is on the December list
I'm not big on playing clones of existing characters but holy fuck this build sounds fun, might have to give it a shot anyway
I don't know why, but this makes me want an Alexander Anderson video
He's already made one.
Like to see the ultimate ninja build "Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow" (GI Joe)
I would still love to see a Ashley Williams from Evil Dead build. I assume it would be a fighter with some artificer build and also (happily) broken as hell.
"Imagine you are taking a test and someone punches you six times" 🤣
Would love to see Jesse Faden from Control!
Lore-wise I think she'd be some combination of Hexblade Pact of the Blade Warlock for the Board and Service Weapon and Divine Soul Sorcerer for Polaris.
The spells you'd need are: Shield, Mage Armor, Telekinesis, Levitate, Fly (Levitate/Evade), Misty Step (Evade), Dominate Person, and Dispel Magic. If you went for an even 10/10 split you could grab all the spells listed here and get the Armor of Hexes at 10th level (an alternative for the Shield ability she uses), but your highest level spell slot would be level 5, which is pretty weak for a full caster. Eldritch Blast works pretty well as an alternative for the Service Weapon as well.
If you went for a 10/10 split you do get access to a total of five invocations. I'd recommend Armor of Shadows and Eldritch Sight for the first two (free Mage Armor and Detect Magic - presumably Polaris or the Board alerting you to an AWE). Otherwordly Leap and Ascendant Step for the last two (free Jump and Levitate respectively), with something like Improved Pact Weapon or Thirsting Blade to bridge the gap. If you're using a hand crossbow instead of Eldritch Blast as the Service Weapon, then you'll want to take Improved Pact Weapon as instead of Eldritch Sight so that your hand crossbow can be your Pact Weapon. Though technically speaking the service weapon can take many forms and is thought to have even been Excalibur in the past, so you might roleplay something for that, letting you use a sword instead.
I would kill for a build based on Vergil from Devil May Cry
Bonus points if you name the character Jugemu Jugemu Gokou no Surikire Kaijiarisuigyo no Suigyoumatsu Unraimatsu Fuuraimatsu Kuunerutokoro ni Sumutokoro Yaburakouji no Burakouji Paipo Paipo Paipo no Shuuringan Shuuringan no Guurindai Guurindai no Ponpokopii no Ponpokonaa no Choukyuumei no Chousuke
Suggestion, Mugen and Jin from Samurai Champloo could be very interesting to play in D&D.
Scar was one of my favorite characters from the original series. I still really like the manga/brotherhood version but the first series just captured this feeling of a man whose soul was stained by war and wrestled with his faith. The whole Ishbalan war can very much be seen as allegory for the invasions of middle eastern countries and how it affects the people in these war torn countries. Plus he's one of the best fighters in a world with Bradley and Greed in it!
now that tashas is out i think a straight eldritch knight works better as you can get unarmed attack and be able to counter spell ect
KI-fuled strikes actually improved 4E Monk, so this aint so bad!
Surprised there wasn’t some sort of counter spell or something to just auto stop casters
Mage Killer builds definitely need more love in 5e.
i made Yusuke Urameshi once, based on a sorcerer full metamagic specialized in one cantrip.
Let's fucking gooooooooooooooooooo I love you Tulok
I agree with everything in this video except the claim that Bradley dumped wisdom. That guy has a perception stat that‘s off the charts.
You should do one for Luke cage
One of the scarest builds so far
Was expecting Monk Cleric, Inflict Wounds was the closest effect I could think of for Scars's "Yo Face Explode" arm
the issfallen joke won me over
As much as I love your videos I was hoping to make a request. I was hoping someone from one piece like Zoro, jinbei, Luffy, anyone. I've been dying to see something like that
I LOVE YOU.
You must build the greatest hero of them all. The Tick
Not even FUCKING WAITING FOR THE VIDEO TO END
THE HYPE IS REAL
So, I'd love to see you make builds of the Persona 4 characters like Naoto Shirogane or Kanji Tatsumi to see how they could be done in a traditional DnD style. :)
kanji is definitely a storm herald barbarian with the tavern brawler feat for improvised weapons, that's my take on him
