Bench was not an exceptional power guy, I don't see why Bailey didn't take a flier on Yaz being 400+, there's a reason why he's seen as the successor to Teddy Ballgame.
It sucks that Ted Williams’ HR totals are lower than they should’ve been because of his time at war. MLB should add his confirmed kills to his career HR total in the interest of fairness.
I love seeing any mention of Mark Reynolds. Weirdest career ever. Hes 156th all time in home runs but has a WAR of 6.8. He was amazing at hitting home runs and just sucked at everything else. Led the league in strikeouts 4 times in a row. 2nd all time in most homeruns without an all star appearance behind Tim Salmon who hit one more home run than him. Truly remarkable stuff.
Comparing Rice and Howard's numbers and it's actually crazy how similar their hitting stats are considering they had very different careers. Howard gets a bump because he put those numbers up in the 60s but Rice was a plus defender which definitely helped his HOF case. Basically the same offensive output though once they retired. Also Howard retired the year before Rice debuted, so they just missed playing against each other
I got 28 on my 6th try. It was luck for sure though. I got Mays, McGwire, Pujols, and Miguel Cabrera against some folks I knew were not in the 500 homer club.
I just put up a 35 and lost on andres gallarragga having 10 more home runs than Johnny bench. 399 vs 389 didn’t know the big cat had that kinda longevity
I really looked up Jim Rices Baseball reference page and said wow Bailey knows his baseball and then remembered that there are other players in the video and rewinded it
Played while watching the video and got a 31 before finally succumbing to Johnny Bench vs. Ralph Kiner. What a shame. I wish the game would have a pitcher wins or strikeouts comparisons.
watching this video reminded me of the wiffle ball/pickup rule "johnny bench at home" where when playing without catchers if a ball thrown to home was reasonably close to the plate and beat the runner there then they were out. was that a universal thing for kids? i feel like it must've because i didn't grow up very close to cincinnati and was born way after he retired. i probably hadn't thought about this rule for genuinely 10+ years it was so weird to remember it now. i knew this rule before i had any actual idea who johnny bench was or his historical significance in baseball. does anyone else remember this?
Guess I have to apologise to all the people I've called "homers" (pun mildly intentional) in the past, because the only HR total I knew before starting this game was 434 for Andruw
Seems like a Hall of Very Good player to me. JAWS ranks Mookie Betts as more deserving of the Hall and he's 30 years old, which maybe that says more about Mookie than it says about Reggie - did you know Mookie almost has the same JAWS score as Tony Gwynn (55.2 for Tony, 53.6 for Mookie)?. But JAWS does also rank Smith as more worthy of the Hall than Vladimir Guerrero Sr. because Smith was a plus defender with comparable offensive numbers, but I don't think that is right because Vladdy Sr. was a monster, but maybe I should be putting more respect on Mr. Smith's name. Smith did have a national profile because he played in four World Series and won with the '81 Dodgers, and his World Series OPS (.842) is almost identical to his career OPS (.855), so he does seem like a guy who might've gotten some love on the ballot but maybe he's just a sabermetric darling who doesn't have the raw numbers of some of his contemporaries.
I got 14 first attempt but lost at Cey vs Burnitz. I need to try again because I know I can do better than that 26 next attempt lost at Frank Howard vs Dwight Evans
Bailey going to Yaz like "I owe you an apology, I wasn't familiar with your game."
Bench was not an exceptional power guy, I don't see why Bailey didn't take a flier on Yaz being 400+, there's a reason why he's seen as the successor to Teddy Ballgame.

Surely should bump him over the 600 mark. No way a man with his level of hand-eye coordination didn't have at least 100 confirmed kills.
pretty sure he was a bomber pilot so bro could have easily doubled his HR count with his kill count
Make a new stat: CKHR+
@@NutsBeStinky does the plus mean it’s adjusted for both stadium and battle theater?
@@LocalManMakesMusic of course it does. why else would it be a + stat?
Bailey your thumbnail face is exactly how I felt when I saw this notification.
Bailey is truly goated when being foolish is the vibe
Always the vibe
Bailey is a literal baseball god. First name he sees, Jim Rice
“Hmm Jim Rice, probably around 380 total”
Total pops up…
382.
Mad man.
Ah, I thought 379. Was probably thinking of Orlando Cepeda.

Tim Salmon splashed so Mike Trout could swim
Love me some Mark Reynolds, Michael Morse, Matt Joyce type players.
@@SegaGenesisEvangeliondamn. This is my personal pick for comment of the year.
Edgar Martinez having fewer career home runs than Jay Bruce is absolutely wild. Baseball is such a weird sport.
Edgar had a very late start to his career… not too far off from Nelson Cruz, but if he hit .300

Incredible knowledge. 🙌 We love the video. Thanks for playing! ✌
Edgar spent so many years hitting .330, 25-30 HRs, and a bagillion doubles

Like 1 minute in and already impressed by your accuracy with Rice and Tex
I got 28 on my 6th try. It was luck for sure though. I got Mays, McGwire, Pujols, and Miguel Cabrera against some folks I knew were not in the 500 homer club.
I got 43 last night, I got so many 500 homer club players. But there was some scary ones like Justin mornue or Ted Simmons which was a one homer one
Tino was good for a long time. Remember he was raking with the Ms before he was traded to New York
Who has more homeruns? Bailey or Jomboy?
Me
we need to get bailey in the warehouse
Jomboy has hit a few tanks in his warehouse games blitzball series so I'm guessing him. Then again, Bailey was a member of the Atlanta Braves before.
@@random1234da Yeah, but Bailey played during the steroid era and we know he didn't juice so it's likely that Jomboy has more
Your baseball knowledge is impressive mate. Love the channel, your gonna get those press creds any day now.
Yankee legend Jay Bruce. Please more content like this Bailey! I can’t wait for another Sporcle video if you are doing one.
Who has more home runs?
Duane Kuiper or Tungsten Arm O’Doyle
Duane Kuiper or Nolan Ryan
Tried and failed a bunch of times, couldn't get past 11 or 12 for a while, then went on a run! My high score is 71, pretty happy with that!
Really enjoy the content Bailey, keep it up!

Me: Sees 2 names I've never heard before.
Bailey: Jim Rice probably hit around 380, Doug DeCinces maybe 350.
Me: Uhhh, sure?
I just got 26 on my second try. Overestimated Evan Longoria and disrespected someone from the 70’s that I’ve never heard of
Someone needs to develop a stattogories+ metric to measure your high score, but expressed relative to the average distance between your comparisons
Just stumbled across this guy's channel a couple weeks ago his knowledge is absolutely absurd
Maybe it's the Runescape player in me, but I would have HAD to send another one after losing like that lmao

First one I played, first round: Prince Fielder vs Cecil Fielder. What do I doooooooo
It was always fun watching Richie Sexson play left for the Indians

TBH never heard of Reggie Smith before but looking at his stats he definitely should be in the HOF.

Chase headley next question
TWICE?! Yaz twice?!?
Roy Campanella would be considered the greatest catcher ever if he wasn't tragically paralyzed in a car accident at the height of his prime
And if we had more complete Negro League stats.
And if Johnny Bench didn't have hands the size of dustbin lids.
Out twice on Yaz. I know what baseball reference page you're studying after this.
I got 14 first attempt but lost at Cey vs Burnitz. I need to try again because I know I can do better than that
26 next attempt lost at Frank Howard vs Dwight Evans
That Sosa pic had me dying lol.
9:37 that picture of Jay Bruce is funny

Sorry to the football fans, but baseball is greater IMO lol
2:22 hahaha wouldn’t doubt it
I sent this to my dad and got him addicted to it, his high score is 250
I got to 20 then lost choosing cecil fielder over carlos lee
When on the fence, go with the HOFer, Harold Baines!! I mean it's NOT the hall of MEDIOCRE!

5th game got a high score of 46. Probably never gonna top that.
They got you with the difference of 1
I got 53 on my 10th try with a great deal of luck.
I believe DeCinces is pronounced di SEN zay.
How can you have not watched Al Simmons and consider yourself a baseball fan??
