    QUESTION: I have a Dell Optiplex 390. Whenever I select UEFI, it tells me there is no bootable device available. Also, "Advanced Boot Options" is not available in the BIOS. So, there is no way to take any checkmark out of the "Legacy" option. Is there a way to update those BIOS or fix that? Also, when I select "UEFI," there is nothing to select for "Booting." I have heard Windows is supposed to take care of that. And the computer comes back with a message saying it tried to do that "Automatically." The computer tells me to select an option in UEFI and save the settings. The problem is there is nothing to select.I am using Windows 10 Pro. Can you please help me out. Is there any way to make it so this Dell Optiplex with the LGA 1155 A00 Motherboard can use an SSD with GPT UEFI? Or does this computer have to remain in MBR Legacy mode?

    • @EggheadFixers
      @EggheadFixers  3 года назад +1

      What happens when you run the diagnostic? Does it read the SSD as being there? Also does it pass the diagnostic? You may have to fix the setting then reinstall Windows. For Windows 10 to function properly it needs to be set on UEFI with secure boot on. As for the boot order Windows should do that automatically but in rare cases you may need to add your SSD as a boot option manually.

    • @michaelzoran
      @michaelzoran 3 года назад +2

      @@EggheadFixers I made sure the SSD was GPT when I cloned the MBR HDD. The PC "attempted" to load the UEFI features "Automatically" according to the computer. However, it would not work.
      I then selected the option to run the diagnostic. This was a UEFI type of graphic menu. The SSD and HDD were recognized, and so was the RAM and everything else. All of the features of the PC successfully passed the diagnostic test.
      Unfortunately, nothing would work. The SSD simply would not allow the SSD to boot up as long as the SSD was in GPT.
      As a result, I reformatted the SSD. I formatted it into MBR and cloned the HDD again. This time the SSD booted properly - but only in "Legacy" mode. Nothing would allow "UEFI" mode to be selected.
      The Dell Optiplex does not have the ability to choose "Advanced Options" or "Secure Boot" in the menu. You can choose "UEFI," but as a result of not having the ability to select "Advanced Options," you cannot select the option "Not" to run in "Legacy" mode.
      It seems as though the Dell Optiplex 390 with the LGA 1155 motherboard does not have the ability to boot a GPT HDD or SSD.

    • @EggheadFixers
      @EggheadFixers  3 года назад +1

      @@michaelzoran Ya it may incompatible. Also I believe with GPT HDD you need it to be set on UEFI so if you can only boot in legacy that is most likely your problem. What operating system are you trying to install?

      Bios will most likely look different but if you run into any options not being there just skip to the next step. Some of the older models Dell are set up more simple so you may not have all the extra options. They are also easier to work on so you have that on your side. Let me know if you have any questions:)

    • @EggheadFixers
      @EggheadFixers  3 года назад

      Sorry to hear that☹ First I would try what we call reseating the hard drive which means unplugging it and then plugging it back in. Then rerun the diagnostic. If that does not work then its most likely that you need a new hard drive. Sometimes when a hard drive really dies the motherboard doesn't read it as being installed. Here is a video on how to replace your hard drive and install an operating system:
      ruclips.net/video/TElCJDbKdKk/видео.html
      Let me know how it goes:)

    • @EggheadFixers

      Sorry to hear that:( If all that hardware passed the diagnostic then the next step would be to try reinstalling the operating system. Usually this problem is caused by a problem with the operating system. Here is a video on how to do that:

      I would check your Windows logs to see if it is recording an error at the time it’s giving you the
      problem. You can access your Windows logs by going into File Explorer, right-clicking on this PC,
      clicking on manage, expanding the folder Event Viewer, and expanding the folder Windows Logs. I
      would check applications and the system and look at the date and time to see if there are any errors
      logged for when you were having the no sound issue. You are looking for errors that have a red or
      yellow symbol next to them. If you see one that fits the right time. Click on it and you can google the
      Event ID and source for solutions to this error.

      hello,
      i recently bought my dell inspiron 3650 used in november. in january, i started hearing squeaking noises coming from the pc. that was when i started getting errors that no hard drive was detected but then it continued to boot and work fine just a little slow. it started giving me boot loops that would last about 5 minutes saying it was diagnosing my pc and attempting repairs until eventually i couldnt boot it anymore. when it brought me to the automatic repair screen, i decided to reset it and remove all my files and i chose the option to reset if i was recycling the pc which i wasnt by accident. i finally took it apart and looked at the hard drive which i was 99% sure the problem was and i disconnected it and reconnected it but that didnt do anything so i took it back out and left it with my computer apart for a week or 2 just giving up on it. today, i decided to try one more time and i ran the diagnostic when you press F12 and it said everything was fine, including the hard drive. before that the bios said that there was no hard drive but after i did the diagnostic for 6 hours or so (the long one) i went back to bios and it showed my hard drive. this is where my problem is now... everything is functional according to the diagnostics i did. the hard drive is there and working. i still cannot boot up windows. it just brings me to the automatic repair screen and says that it didnt start correctly. please help. thank you

    Tried the windows 10 settings in this video but it kept getting an error message for secure boot being enabled. So I went back to disabled it yet I'm still stuck with the Dell logo where it doesn't want to boot beyond that. Hard drive still reads fine as I'm able to pull up all filled when connected to another computer.

    Hello, what would be the next step to take if none of this resolved the boot loop? No errors on system assessment, tried booting in all modes etc. Still stuck on boot loop. Would I possibly need to get ahold of a windows install disk?

      @EggheadFixers  2 года назад +1

      Yes reinstalling Windows would be the next step. Here is a video on how to make a Windows installation disk:

      What happens when you run the diagnostic? Does everything pass?

    • @kevindavey8219
      @kevindavey8219 3 года назад

      I’m having the same issue. I bought a new hard drive with windows 10 already installed and plugged it in. Upon booting the computer I get the same message “no bootable devices found.” So then I rerun the diagnostic and it doesn’t find any issues (before I replaced the hard drive it listed the hard drive problem). So the new hard drive seems to be working however I’m not sure why the computer won’t boot correctly. Any advice? Thank you!
