Thank you Thank you Thank You. Last night my laptop latitude7400 was working properly. But when today in the morning I opened my laptop it says "hard driver-not installed". I followed steps through this video and boom its working now. 😇😇😇😇😇🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Very good video, thank you! Unfortunately, my boot issues is unresolved. Started getting an error that the hard drive was not installed in my Latitude E5450. Swapped out for an SSD and the problem persisted. The diagnostic doesn't recognize the hard drive being installed either. Thanks for that tip! Could it be that the hard drive controller on the motherboard itself has failed? I'm going to open it up again and see if I can spot where the hard drive cable attaches to the motherboard next.
Grabbed my hd dock, popped the original drive in there. It works. Tried two other drives (same size, .5Tb) in the laptop and neither worked. Tried original drive, still didn't work. All drives worked in the dock. Even reseated the cable. I think the hd controller or the actual cable failed. Going to buy an external enclosure and set the laptop to boot off usb for now.
I can end on a positive note. Put the original hard drive in the enclosure. Plugged it into one of the USB ports and it started right up! Simple solution for anyone else who encounters this scenario. It would make sense that the most likely failure was either the HD connector cable or the actual controller itself.
@@rickdagrexican7351 Ya it seems like you may have a bad hard drive port. Thanks for the video. Very Helpful. However my ssd still couldn't be detected. I replaced the ssd and tried to install windows and the rst driver and it still would not detect a drive. i plugged my external ssd in and it detected. does this mean my motherboard/ssd port are bad? is there a cheap fix?
Yes it could mean that the port is bad but there are some other possibilities I would try. For example when you run the diagnostic does it read the new drive as there and working? Does it see it in BIOs? If yes then it could be a problem with the settings in BIOS. If no then it most likely is the SSD motherboard port issue. Also is the replacement SSD new? If not you could have another bad SSD.

Yes you should be able to replace it with a SSHD or SSD without a problem. As long as you buy one that is compatible. Your info will not be on the new drive. If your hard drive is dead then sometimes you can get your info off of it by using a external hard drive bay but this will only work if the hard drive is not too dead.

Does it happen when you are in Windows? Does it give you a couple minutes before it freezes up? Because if you can I would try checking your Windows logs. Windows logs every time it runs into an error and will give you the information you can google to see what caused the error. You can access these logs by doing this: You can do this by Press ⊞ Win + R on the M-Files server computer. In the Open text field, type in event viewer and click OK. Expand the Windows Logs node. Select the Application node. Now from here look for the date and time you had the blue screen. It should have recorded an event at this date and time with a red icon or yellow one next to it showing a problem. You'll recognize it because it looks bad. Click on one of these events. Down below it will give you an event ID number. You can google this to pinpoint what is causing the problem.

I have both an SSD and a HDD installed on my laptop. The SSD works completely fine (means that I can boot into Windows 10 with no problem) but the HDD keeps beeping 2 times at startup and the laptop boots into Diagnostics saying “oh no the hard drive is not detected” then restarts, but the HDD is for storage, not for the OS.
When you went to install the operating system could you see the hard drive in the installer?

You can do this by Press ⊞ Win + R on the M-Files server computer.
In the Open text field, type in event viewer and click OK.
Expand the Windows Logs node.
Select the Application node.
Now from here look for the date and time you had the blue screen. It should have recorded an event at this date and time with a red icon or yellow one next to it showing a problem. My E5420 has been 'pausing' for > a year. External diags found nothing wrong. After running BIOS diags, it refused to boot. SMART data was all green and the diags said the HDD was good. I reseated the drive - no change. Listening to it, I heard it spin up, but not reset. The laptop now powers off during boot start. When I put it on a usb adaptor, I hear ir spin constantly and hear 1 ping when it tried to reset - I believe 3 pings is normal. without a reset, it won't mount and I can't get to the urgent files that were not backed up. Trying varied reover and partitioning programs didn't help - they didn't see it either.
How can I force it to reset so I can mount it?
If all the hardware passed the diagnostic then the next step would be to try reinstalling the operating system. Usually, this problem is caused by a problem with the operating system. Here is a video on how to do that:

Hey i just had a problem problem which shows my hard drive is not installed. This problem occured after my laptop was off during the driver installation process. Since the installation process got interrupted and when i tried to turn on my laptop it shows hard drive not installed.
Sorry to hear that☹ First I would try what we call reseating the hard drive which means unplugging it and then plugging it back in. Then rerun the diagnostic. If that does not work then its most likely that you need a new hard drive. Sometimes when a hard drive really dies the motherboard doesn't read it as being installed. Sometimes when you put strain on the system like an update then hardware that is may have been having problems dies the rest of the way. well the original tin there was an NVME
and it is one of the 3 that I tried to put back in the system. Hard drive not detected. no videos anywhere to address the issue. HELP
Did the other 3 NVME sticks have operating systems on them? Also if you try running a diagnostic with one of the other NVME sticks in it...Does it detect the stick? Also it could be an issue with the port. You try using a can of compressed air on it. Sometimes somethings can get in there and cause issues.
Hey! My laptop crashes and says no bootable device. Sometimes it boots normaly and works for sometime
I tried both BIOS settings changes and run a diagnostic test (all tests passed) what could be the Problem? Thanks!
It could be that you hard drive has a lose connection or is possibly starting to fail. Either way I would back up your data right away to be on the safe side.
My hard drive failed, it has an exclamation point next to it but the diagnostic says there are no problems. I want to replace the hard drive, will I lose my data if I do? I literally can't lose a months worth of chapters, character development, plot twists, research and original ideas. Please tell me there is a way to salvage my data!
Yes all your data is on the hard drive so if you replace it then you will lose it. Sometimes if you hook your bad hard drive up to a external hard drive bay then you can pull your data off it
