@@EggheadFixers yes I can see it in bios but when I check on disk management it doesn’t appear there. What could be the problem? I’m using dell G7. It’s the internal hdd that can’t be detected.
Thanks for the video. Very Helpful. However my ssd still couldn't be detected. I replaced the ssd and tried to install windows and the rst driver and it still would not detect a drive. i plugged my external ssd in and it detected. does this mean my motherboard/ssd port are bad? is there a cheap fix?
Yes it could mean that the port is bad but there are some other possibilities I would try. For example when you run the diagnostic does it read the new drive as there and working? Does it see it in BIOs? If yes then it could be a problem with the settings in BIOS. If no then it most likely is the SSD motherboard port issue. Also is the replacement SSD new? If not you could have another bad SSD.
Very good video, thank you! Unfortunately, my boot issues is unresolved. Started getting an error that the hard drive was not installed in my Latitude E5450. Swapped out for an SSD and the problem persisted. The diagnostic doesn't recognize the hard drive being installed either. Thanks for that tip! Could it be that the hard drive controller on the motherboard itself has failed? I'm going to open it up again and see if I can spot where the hard drive cable attaches to the motherboard next.
Grabbed my hd dock, popped the original drive in there. It works. Tried two other drives (same size, .5Tb) in the laptop and neither worked. Tried original drive, still didn't work. All drives worked in the dock. Even reseated the cable. I think the hd controller or the actual cable failed. Going to buy an external enclosure and set the laptop to boot off usb for now.
I can end on a positive note. Put the original hard drive in the enclosure. Plugged it into one of the USB ports and it started right up! Simple solution for anyone else who encounters this scenario. It would make sense that the most likely failure was either the HD connector cable or the actual controller itself.

QUESTION: I have a Dell Optiplex 390. Whenever I select UEFI, it tells me there is no bootable device available. Also, "Advanced Boot Options" is not available in the BIOS. So, there is no way to take any checkmark out of the "Legacy" option. Is there a way to update those BIOS or fix that? Also, when I select "UEFI," there is nothing to select for "Booting." I have heard Windows is supposed to take care of that. And the computer comes back with a message saying it tried to do that "Automatically." The computer tells me to select an option in UEFI and save the settings. The problem is there is nothing to select.I am using Windows 10 Pro. Can you please help me out. Is there any way to make it so this Dell Optiplex with the LGA 1155 A00 Motherboard can use an SSD with GPT UEFI? Or does this computer have to remain in MBR Legacy mode?
What happens when you run the diagnostic? Does it read the SSD as being there? Also does it pass the diagnostic? You may have to fix the setting then reinstall Windows. For Windows 10 to function properly it needs to be set on UEFI with secure boot on. As for the boot order Windows should do that automatically but in rare cases you may need to add your SSD as a boot option manually.
@@EggheadFixers I made sure the SSD was GPT when I cloned the MBR HDD. The PC "attempted" to load the UEFI features "Automatically" according to the computer. However, it would not work. I then selected the option to run the diagnostic. This was a UEFI type of graphic menu. The SSD and HDD were recognized, and so was the RAM and everything else. All of the features of the PC successfully passed the diagnostic test. Unfortunately, nothing would work. The SSD simply would not allow the SSD to boot up as long as the SSD was in GPT. As a result, I reformatted the SSD. I formatted it into MBR and cloned the HDD again. This time the SSD booted properly - but only in "Legacy" mode. Nothing would allow "UEFI" mode to be selected. The Dell Optiplex does not have the ability to choose "Advanced Options" or "Secure Boot" in the menu. You can choose "UEFI," but as a result of not having the ability to select "Advanced Options," you cannot select the option "Not" to run in "Legacy" mode. It seems as though the Dell Optiplex 390 with the LGA 1155 motherboard does not have the ability to boot a GPT HDD or SSD.

Hello! Great videos :-) But I have a question about installing a second harddrive to my Dell optiplex 7050 SFF; I have plugged it into Sata2 gate, but it doesnt show up anywhere... and I`ve tried to locate it in diskmanagement without any luck. Do you have a soloution on the problem? Thanks in advance 😊
So i tried the reboot change to legacy and also did the diagnostic test, i got the red X for my hard drive 0-0-0. Crazy thing is is that I just got my Inspiron 5570 six months ago brand new. I have been an avid gamer i got the laptop. Could this be the reason for my hard drive’s premature death? If it is dead, I’d replace it with a SSD, but do you have any recommended brand SSD? In replacing the HDD to a SDD, do i need to replace anything else such as the RAM? Also do you have a video on how to transfer data files from the HDD to the SDD? Sorry for the load! THANKS
Ya you could definitely upgrade to a solid state drive but if your Dell is only six months old its most likely still under warranty. You could call it and save some $$$ by having them fix it for you. As far as the premature death of your hard drive do you use it with a surge protector? Also if you are a avid gamer a cooling pad is always a good idea but sometimes you just get a laptop with a bad hard drive even when you buy it new. As far as solid state drives go I'm a fan of Samsung. I find them to be reliable. Let me know how it goes:)
Egghead Fixers Hey Thanks. So I opened up the laptop and found out that the laptop did not come with a M2 SSD. So with my hard disk drive failing, should I install a sata SSD in place of the hard disk drive and also get the M2 SSD?

Now my only thing is how do I copy the entire old failing HDD to the new SSD? Please save my documents!
@@richiengo5116 You will need external Hard Drive bay but just so you are aware sometimes you can retrieve old data off a dying hard drive but not always. Hi -I need to clarify my previous message: I've replaced the SATA drive with an SSD drive and about once a week it cannot find the drive while I'm working! It starts ok, but then loses the drive a few hours later. It asks me to "continue", flashes a message on the screen - and shuts down. I have tried the fixes you mentioned, but to no avail. ... Many thanks.
In BIOS is the SSD listed first in the boot order? It could be that the computer is trying to boot off the wrong thing if the boot order is not set correctly.
Hey! My laptop crashes and says no bootable device. Sometimes it boots normaly and works for sometime I tried both BIOS settings changes and run a diagnostic test (all tests passed) what could be the Problem? Thanks!
It could be that you hard drive has a lose connection or is possibly starting to fail. Either way I would back up your data right away to be on the safe side.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series. I've done the F12 thing and everything is ok except I get "Hard Drive - Not Installed.' Can I replace hard drive with a SSHD? Also will I have my info from my computer when I replace hard drive? If not how do I get all my info off hard drive?.....thanks for any light you can shed on this for me!
Yes you should be able to replace it with a SSHD or SSD without a problem. As long as you buy one that is compatible. Your info will not be on the new drive. If your hard drive is dead then sometimes you can get your info off of it by using a external hard drive bay but this will only work if the hard drive is not too dead.

When I hit f2 on my inspiron 15 3000 it doesn't bring me to the screen it does on yours
The computer has to be all the way off and you have about a 3-5 second windows to repeatedly hit the f2 button to gain entry into BIOS
When you went to install the operating system could you see the hard drive in the installer?

If you have an older version of BIOS then you most likely you do not UEFI and legacy settings. If you find this to be true skip to the portion of the video on running the diagnostic.

-Selected the UEFI since im using windows 10 also enabled security boot
-I also did diagnostics and all hardwares passed EXCEPT for one thing, one drive has an "NA" (not an exclamation mark) while my other drive passed the test.
-I watched your video on how to replace SSD and HDD to do it on my laptop (I just removed them and inserted them back) because maybe they got loosened up.
-checked the booting sequence making sure diskette is first on top

-After the diagnostics I went to the configuration and I saw that my SSD drive has only 16kb size while my HDD still has a 1TB size.
-before the "no bootabke device found" I was in a window that says "Download SupportAssist OS Recovery Image"

@@michaelzoran Ya it may incompatible. Also I believe with GPT HDD you need it to be set on UEFI so if you can only boot in legacy that is most likely your problem. What operating system are you trying to install?
@@EggheadFixers Windows 10 Pro was cloned over to the SSD.
@@michaelzoran Ya if its Windows 10 Pro then it definitely needs to be set on UEFI.

Thank you, Excellent video
You're welcome!
Mine doesn't show the option on top at 0:40
In that case you can skip to the next step in the video. What happens when you run the diagnostic?
Just got my laptop fixed watching this video .. Saved several hundred Dollars !! Thank you!
Awesome!! Happy it helped:)
When I put UEFI y don't have "Windows boot manager", I only have a boot sequence thats says Onboard NICI(IPV6) and other thats says Onboard NICI(IPV4)
Ok then that is most likely not the problem. Leave it in Legacy and move on to the step in the video. Let me know how it goes:)
@@EggheadFixers I left it in legacy and then when I did diagnostics it says againg that hard drive is not installed
What I can do?
@@mikaartieda9699You will need to try what we call reseating the Hard Drive which means unplugging the Hard Drive and then plugging it back in to make in to sure it isn't a loose connection. If that doesn't work then fortunately it most likely isn't reading your Hard Drive as there because your Hard Drive has died and needs replacing. Here is a video on how to replace your Hard Drive and reinstall Windows:

Let me know if you have any more questions!
Dell Precision 7540 - no bootable devices found. When I run the diagnostic test it says Hard Drive - Not installed. All the bios settings match what you have for windows 10. This is an NVMe SSD that all of the sudden isn’t recognized. What do you suggest?
Sorry to hear that☹ First I would try what we call reseating the hard drive which means unplugging it and then plugging it back in. Then rerun the diagnostic. If that does not work then its most likely that you need a new hard drive. Sometimes when a hard drive really dies the motherboard doesn't read it as being installed. Here is a video on how to replace your hard drive and install an operating system:
