    FAQ's:
    Q: The diagnostic scan said my HDD is good but none of the steps worked and the new install fails.
    A: If the diagnostic test said your HDD is good but the new install wont complete, perhaps the HDD is bad after all :( I would then replace the HDD and install to the new one. You can see examples of replacement and upgrade HDDs and SSDs here: www.amazon.com...
    Q: The diagnostic test said 'NA' or that my HDD was not installed.
    A: If the test cannot be run due to the HDD not being seen, it could be loose. Try 'reseating' it as seen in the video and run the scan again. If the scan comes back the same, I would then try replacing the HDD. You can see examples of replacement and upgrade HDDs and SSDs here: www.amazon.com...

I tried all your non physical tricks they didn't really work (especially because legacy isnt supported on mine and theres only one boot option), I pressed power and f2, and at the bottom of all the options was my hard drives name, and I clicked on it and it somehow booted up??? I've got a Dell 5490 originally set up the boot off an M.2 SSD. For my own reasons I am trying to put it back to a 2TB HDD. I was able to change the BIOS settings as necessary to be able to see, partition, and successfully install Windows10 on to that new HDD (off a external DVD media drive). Despite trying all of the setting changes you mentioned in this video, I can't get it to Boot to the hard drive with the external DVD removed. The BIOS seems to ignore and never put the HDD in the boot sequence, regardless whether Legacy or UEFI. There is a button to manually Add To List another boot choice, and the next box down seems to recognize the internal SATA HD ports. When I select that, there is a browse button that seems to be able to see and browse the HDD with the Windows installation on it, seemingly to pick a boot file, and even given name to that new boot list entry.
    For example it shows a Boot folder and an Extend folder at the top level, that the BIOS lets me navigate down through the folder structures, I tried picking a few files with Boot and the name that I thought might be the boot record it's looking for. It may be that if I just knew the file I was looking for on the installed Windows HDD, that would satisfy it in the boot sequence. But I'm not sure what to pointed to. Other than that it is pretty frustrating that it's never offering the HDD that the laptop clearly can see because it allowed the Windows installation onto that HDD from an external DVD drive
    You mentioned that there could be an effect from the way the operating system was first installed. The UEFI settings only offer the internal NIC ports in the boot sequence choices. Which makes me think that the original Windows installation to the M.2 SDD card was via NIC, in the Bios is somehow stuck with that.
    Any ideas what else can be tried?

    If this happens to you after a seemingly unrelated project where you had to open the case, one thing to check is to reseat your SSD (if that's your boot device). I recently did a battery replacement and powered back on to No Boot Device. After some troubleshooting (including finding this video), I finally decided to crack the case again to check things out. First thing I saw was the SSD popped out of its slot. In retrospect, that's probably one of the first things I should've checked, but I was a bit in panic mode.

    If it's not booting, how do you get to "OFF" so you can test F12 and F2 tests? does just holding power switch down till screen is off power it all down?
    My new rebuilt Inspiron 7391 that I bought and never moved into just has dell circle on black screen, I pushed and tried random stuff then got a white screen with QR code and something about no hard drive installed. Don't remember exact sequence.
    That screen said support assist preboot system performance check
    I got the laptop 3 years ago and initially started, seemed everything worked, I shut it off and have carried around as a "spare" meaning to move in to it, but my old one keeps working, old familiar song.
    never dropped new one, battery was dead so I plugged in for an hour and that's when I discovered no boot issue
    error 0155 validation code showed also and service tag, other screen said hard drive self test unsuccessful, terminated
    recommended action replace hard drive.
    I've just been toting it around during fire season in the plane, pretty sure I did a shut down instead of just closing lid 2 years ago.
    I'll try some stuff , I wrote more than planned in this, thanks for the video !!!

    I wanted to completely restart Windows. So this is what worked for me using a Dell Inspiron 15 5510 that did not support legacy boot, regardless of secure boot being off:
    Changed the drive settings from RAID to AHCI/NVMe (in BIOS).
    Inserted a Windows 10 bootable USB and booted from that.

    Hello. I have a problem. My usb mouse was broken and i had error “power surge on usb port damage”. After couple of this errors my Dell lagged and blue death screen appeared. I reload my laptop because of instant 0% - and then after restart black screen appeared with “no bootable device” error.
    With diagnostics on F5 i have problem “hard drive not installed”. Changing boot settings from Legacy to UEFI didn’t help.
    Is my hard drive dead, or it can be revived? Will be all my data gone? Or it can particularly saved? From D drive at least

      If the test shows the HDD to be not installed, that means the HDD is either bad or loose. First, try 'reseating' it as seen here. Try the scan again. If its still saying 'Uninstalled' then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. After replacing the HDD, install a new Operating System (OS) to it as seen here;

I tried a bunch of options to save my files to an external device but it seems the options to try new things to fix the laptop become fewer and fewer with each try. At first it allowed me to save files to an external device but the process would never finish and I'd have ro shut down the computer and try again. It no longer gives me the option to save to the external device. Other options are no longer viable either. Not sure what's going on. Everything seemed to be fine until I unplugged it.

      If the test shows the HDD to be not installed, that means the HDD is either bad or loose. First, try 'reseating' it as seen here. Try the scan again. If its still saying 'Uninstalled' then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. After replacing the HDD, install a new Operating System (OS) to it as seen here;

    Why would my bios settings get changed on their own? Is that possible? My Dell laptop has been working fine for almost 4 years and now tells me the SSD is nearing the end of it's usable life and failing. Also when I started receiving the error(s), a shutdown and restart has gotten me going again (for now).

      It could be that the SSD is actually dying and needs to be replaced. However, sometimes BIOS can loose power for a second, causing settings to change. Perhaps the CMOS battery is starting to die and needs to be replaced.

A way to actually write a long description would help or a way to contact you because I'm sure you could help fix this but basically When I start the computer it goes inthe loop where it says it didn't start properly and needs to restart and then you can go to the advanced options et cetera. I don't know if somebody went into bios and changed stuff but when I ran the thorough test everything passed supposedly except the CD rom drive. With that prevent a computer from entering windows operating system? Because it won't go into the operating system at all. I can get to bios and the use of the F12 function for the boot menu but that's about it. I have the administrator password and when I try to run the other options for resetting the computer and all that and it asks for the administrator password and I enter it it doesn't accept it for some reason. There isn't a system password so I know it wouldn't be that. I don't even know what all settings the bios are supposed to be on for each one. 1. You have a Dell? Can you run the diagnostic test as seen here?
      2. An overheating computer can be damaging multiple different components if not resolved. First, make sure that the fan and vents are clean and clear. If you need help accessing the fan, let me know what brand and model computer you have and I can help you get inside it. If that does not fix the overheating issue, then try replacing the thermal paste on the CPU and if needed, the GPU as seen here; ruclips.net/video/K_j4GPjpawk/видео.html. If that fails too, replace the CPU

      That means that the HDD is either bad or loose. First, try 'reseating' it as seen here. Try the scan again. If its still saying 'Uninstalled' then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. After replacing the HDD, install a new Operating System (OS) to it as seen here;
      You can see how to install Windows 10 here: ruclips.net/video/zYY-Gq68Dvo/видео.html

      There are many reasons a HDD can go bad. Also, 100% of bad HDD's worked the day before they went bad lol.

    My inspiron 15 will say.. no hard drive found if I restart it after any time of use. Then i have to enter the bitlocker every time and go from there.
    Infuriatingly I just did all of the advanced diagnostics in BIOS and it's like.. "everything is working perfectly! No errors!" Then when I exited bios it immediately was like "hard drive not found". 😂

      @@PC_MonkeyI think I've solved it in my boot setup... my laptop only has an SSD, no hard drive. Booting from a hard drive as well as SSD was enabled, so I set it only to boot from the SSD. I also decrypted the laptop so even if it does have booting issues I won't need to enter the stupid bitlocker twice daily.

    Good day.. I so much appreciate your video. I have a Dell latitude E5450, my laptop landed on the floor by the face part, but then my laptop doesn't come up, it shows the power light which stays like 30seconds and goes up and the laptop won't turn up at all. After hours it may come up and show Primary Hard Drive =None. Sometimes the system comes up completely and functions normal. Am sad big time

      nah so like basically i was bored with my computer and so for like 3 months i never used it then recently i came back to it and then this error popped up, the hd not installed and then i ran tests and it said the battery was reaching the end of its life. So i replaced it hoping that would fix this but it didnt. I have no clue if this only happens whilst playing video games or not. Also nothing happened to it like spills or anything. I think it happens for all games since it happened with the two games i tried playing. I also factory reset my computer but that didnt help.

      im about to try one solution which is to move "UEFI hard drive" to the top in boot sequence settings to see if that does anything. My laptop has an overheating issue aswell which could play a factor in this issue. The time at which my computer crashes and pops the error up isnt exactly the same amount of time each time. Once was playing for an hour and then it did it and the next attempt was less than 10 minutes.

      @@riftz_vexify9408 Just so you know, over heating situations can be hard to troubleshoot just one issue as multiple different components and boards including the motherboard itself, could all be faulty.
