  • By no means do we compare this to any large house fire as we were able to thankfully put ours out in time before it caught the whole house. Everyone was safe. God is good

    As a full time FF for over 34 years, you did a great job, and, you are extremely lucky to be alive. Had that fire flashed over on you, you'd have died a horrible death. If your area is serviced by volunteer FF's, you should consider applying. Most people would have panicked, and lost the house. You tried using an extinguisher, a large pot of water, and then remembered your garden hose was available. Great job!

    Thank goodness you and family made it out. I know how bad house fires are when I was in 19 my Dad & I had a house caused by a oil furnace the fan in the back quit working and it got so hot that the furnace was whiter then white it lit the wall behind the steps that lead to my bedroom . My bedroom everything was damaged from the fire by the heat that it melted or was toasted that if touched my clothes they just crumbled in your hands . But the insurance paid for the lost items and my Dad & I got a new furnace installed in the living room & started remodeling the house . The sad thing was a few years the house was foreclosed on us by the bank before we could pay it off the Crooked bank president must had made a deal with someone bc before we could hand the bank the last payment they all ready foreclosed on it.
    Now my passed in 2017 from colon cancer and well my stepmother has lost her mind and I have moved from three different apartments now at 52 I am just going to move one last time to my girlfriend's house . This is a good lesson for everyone. You can never be too paranoid about fires. I've had 4 friends that lost everything from fires. One lost their baby and another lost their pets. And my employer lost their business from fire. I have 3 fire extinguishers in my house, but other than it indicating they're charged, I haven't had them inspected since I purchased them many years ago. Always keep a very long water hose available and ready for quick use. It's rare that any fire department can arrive in time to save a house since they go up so fast. And always expect it will take 3 times longer for repairs than initially estimated. I'm glad you, your family and pets made it out alive. Stuff is all replaceable and will eventually be lost in time regardless. A good fire safe like yours is the best way to protect your valuables. But even that can get contaminated by the smell of smoke.

    Fire extinguishers must be static tested i think every 5 years and the powder ones should be checked every year by a ceritfied fire company . the powder in fire extinguishers tends to settle after not in use . in some states building codes are now requiring homes to have sprinklers installed yes its costly but well worth the investment . my recommendition would be to empty the house the go buy a few gallons of a special primer thats used to remove the smell of smoke and it seals the walls . what you do is rent an airless sprayer and prime all the walls doors ect it takes about a day or two to do but afterwards you wont smell the smoke . in a house you should have a smoke dector on every floor and at least 2 fire extinguishers one in the kitchen and one in the basement or laundry room . from the looks of things i dont think it was an electrical panel fire because there would be more damage and the walls would be chard more and the electrical outlets would be melted and a breaker would have tripped in the main panel .

    You survived your house is still standing, every thing can be replaced. Hug your wife and kid's . If it were my home I would retrofit a sprinkler system inside to suppress fire and I would put ABC extinguishers on every floor of your house in every hallway and one in every room and I would train everyone in my house how to use them. also have a disaster plan and an escape plan. with two exits from every room and an escape ladders on the second floor. With a glass breaker and it's not a bad idea to have a fire blanket.
    PS glad you're safe hopefully you didn't require skin grafts to heal your Burns. Do not use heat lamps.

      A puppy area, the heating lamp dropped down inside the area and caught the wood shavings.

    Brother, I admire you and your wife's courage in doing what you did. However, WHAT were you thinking? Aside from getting the pups and the children out, you should have exited the house and let it go with all watching from the outside. Death by fire is a very agonizing way to die. Don't get me wrong. The only thing that matters is that no lives were lost.

    • @23CHELMS
      @23CHELMS  3 месяца назад

      If I would have felt like saving the house would cost me my life I definitely would have made my exit. I felt like I was able to do it especially once I was outside spraying water into the house instead of being inside still.

    Did i get that right?

      I made this video right after I had gotten out of the hospital. Our kids were in the front yard as we made it into the room where the fire was. The kids woke up at the same time we did and were safe as I fought the fire and my wife got the puppies out of the flames. You’re the 2nd person who has said this so I assume I just made a verbal error when making the video as I was still pretty frazzled and on a lot of medication.

      Our cell phones were trapped in the bedroom, my daughter ran to the neighbors and called 911 but it’s a volunteer fire department so it took them about 20 minutes

    In the heat of the moment, in the panic - & in telling your story - you mention & your wife goes for the puppies first. Then your kids. Think about that.

    • @23CHELMS
      @23CHELMS  5 месяцев назад

      We yelled for our kids to get out of the house as we ran in to where the fire was. Our minds were on containing the fire in the room first. The kids were actually already up and coming down the stairs when we got into the room where the fire was cause the smoke alarms woke them up. When I went for the fire extinguisher they were already in the front yard safe.
