Elmo is Louden's FRIEND...Louden is just learning what that really entails. And Elmo lives a pretty dreary life, and he does not want to miss what could be another highlight. Matthew Modine was in his mid 20s when this was filmed, but the writers, the director, and Matthew himself conspired to make a vivid portrayal of what it like for a teen to learn how life works.

Nola, your point underlines that when we are growing up, we sometimes don't have the wisdom to know what is or isn't special. So sometimes we undervalue the significance of things. I know I certainly did and deprived some elder lived one's of sharing in special memories. I was such an idiot.

Mary, I agree with you. There should never be a shortage of inspiring moments in our lives, as the character Elmo notes. They help us vicariously transcend our sometimes hum drum existence. If you think about watching sports in general, we are always looking for those sublime moments when something magical will happen. It then becomes a shared collectively transforming experience.

THIS is one of the GREATEST FREAKING MOVIES EVER MADE.... EVER!!!
As an OG athlete for most of my life, this movie inspired me to keep pushing, reaching my motocross goals which did NOT come naturally to me.
I was the guy most Pro MX racers wanted to be in school, a 3 LETTER guy, football, wrestling, AND track. I raced BMX just out of high school and went from Novice to Pro in 18months, 🤯
I LIVED Sports, and yet riding and racing the dirt bike took me almost a DECADE to learn how to WIN! 🤯😏😎✌🏾💪🏾💪🏻👍💖🏁🏁🏁..
...and it was worth every broken bone, every sprain, every ache when tired muscle in the gym were BEGGING me to just STOP....
.... but in the pursuit of chasing something bigger than yourself, something that's so scary, so daunting, but is HOOKED into your Soul, you must go on, your MUST go on, the NOT KNOWING I'd you had what it takes would drive you more nuts that facing you're biggest challenge and falling just short.
For all I've given up, I'd do it all over again if I were young and had the chance. I would've gotten myself coaching and a mentor at MOTOCROSS like I did towards the end of my racing days when I DESTROYED my local competition. Had I had a coach at 19, I KNOW I could've turned Pro.
Motivation, MOTIVATION is one of the MAIN KEYS to success in anything, racing BMX, MX, or building your fledgling coaching business off the ground, even summoning up the guts to ask the girl or guy you are crushing on out for a date.
"Take a pause to find the CAUSE...
When you know your WHY, the limit is BEYOND the SKY."
    - Coach Michael
In this movie, seeing how much it meant to Elmo the cook made it NOW MORE important to the wrestler...if you've seen the movie, you know what happened 💪🏻💖🏁😎
I know a young man, a National Level age group Swimmer in high school. I was HIS driving coach. I had him from the beginning so he picked up no bad habits that had to be changed. We talked sports on almost every drive. His mom told me today he's about to live out a dream after many dedicated years of pushing himself....a story not too different from one in this flick.
I'm SO PROUD of Wyatt Rutishauer.... Remember the name, you heard of him in here first. 🇩🇪🏁🇺🇲
