So I went to a physical store and bought it again at full price to compare and then all the details and mistakes became obvious. I had bought a fake PlayStation 4 DualShock controller. Seriously, I would value whatever hardware/consumer goods you reviewed/explained/presented. I know they would be honest and thoughtful. Viewers and/or RUclips's algorithms might have an issue with them being on this channel so perhaps you could consider a second channel dedicated to that sort of stuff.
One reason fakes look so similar to the originals is that (sometimes) the group that counterfeits them have access to the same factory that makes the originals. A company I had worked for that had it's product made in China had a problem with counterfeits, it turned out that after their last shift left for the day, one of the floor supervisors would stay behind and let in the counterfeiters. So their counterfeits were made on the same machines as the originals, the only thing they brought themselves was the materials (plastic, circuit boards etc).
When he got caught, he acted like we had no right to be upset. Apparently that is (according to him) common practice in China, and the Government was fully aware of the practice and extent of counterfeiting. They just don't care.
Needless to say the company I worked for pulled out of China and brought all their manufacturing back to the UK after that.

@@nickolagi They already know all this. The point is they can't avoid all these issues without spending more money, defeating the purpose of making fakes. Spelling things right and not missing spaces is already a given and they can't get that right. I'm not the first or last to list these things out. There's also legal reasons in China why they purposefully use the wrong logo, so it's likely that will never change.

@@lazyman7156 Best Buy or Target online. Or eBay and look for the correct box - real box is solid blue on top and doesn't use molded plastic window fake one has the light blue swirls on top and molded plastic window. Real ones have no USB cable.

The real controllers mention the production date on the label. They also weigh more cause they have good quality batteries that last much longer than the fake ones.

I have one. No matter how hard/slightly you push the right analog stick, it makes no difference in sensitivity; therefore not good for aiming accurately.
I used to have PS2 fake controllers because the originals were quite expensive.
Don't, just don't.
At least you can give it to your friend without fears he'll break the analog sticks.
Please also remember that some Genuine second hand controllers can feel different if they have been repaired and the analogue stick switches have been replaced for lower quality version parts instead of the oem quality switches when people try to fix the very common "STICK DRIFT" issues most types of controllers manufacturers produce can face.
There is also a slight difference in design between the dualshock v1 and the newer dualshock v2 controller to look out for.
Had a few fake controllers in the past for the PS3 and PS4. Can tell the general build quality isn't up to scratch compared to the genuine ones. Mainly the buttons feel too clicky, not spongy enough and the analogue sticks are pretty stiff.
Also they always end up losing the ability to sync so end up with bricked/dead controllers .. the latest being a berry blue one..

It’s pretty crazy how bad it’s gotten. I’ve been looking to buy a new controller from places like offerup and I’ve seen so many new controllers that are very close fakes. Thankfully, I have a good eye for different things and I have not purchased a close replica. They do look very good and very close to the legit PS4 controllers but this video has been very helpful.
its true bruh i bought from offerup and theres litterally no difference only thing that was sketchy for me was the back sticker and then i realized it was fake when the analog sticks where way stiffer than my other controller if ur gonna buy one than u should check for spelling and if the anolog sticks are stiff then dont buy it

So that's why my "Taco Bell exclusive" controler I have feels clickier and wonkier than the other 2 originals I have. This video is much appreciated since it goes in detail to spot the differences. Even the smaller ones are of significance to me. The aforementioned controler I have is the only one that feels clickier, cheaper and all around odd.

When you turn on a fake controller it flashes rapidly and takes more than 4 seconds to go solid, a real one flashes two or three times slowly then goes solid in 3 seconds
Try holding the speaker of the controller to your ear when turning on you hear a noise

I literally just purchased a new controller that arrived today to replace a fake controller I received as a gift. I chose the green camo finish as I figured people making cheap knockoffs will not go through the effort of adding textures. It feels great, in fact even better than the controller that came with the system.

There's a whole slew of different counterfeit controllers that vary in different ways. The only consistency I've seen so far is that the box is never the right one, the serial sticker is wrong or missing completely but most of all: they just feel very off, right away.
the sickest problem with Lazada is allowing sellers to label the fake ones as original and even on the FAQ the seller replies 'yes' to a question on genuity.
now they use the "raya sale" tag to justify a cheaper price as compared to the market price while still labelling it as original, and some use "refurbished" tag to claim it is original.
and buyers on Lazada are too naive to fall for this trick.
But we can still report them for fraud

Dang man I just bought 2 “new sealed in box” controllers from a guy on Offer Up and I get home and start playing and notice it’s so hard to aim accurately there’s a massive dead zone in both and the stick flops over when off center. The sticker looks just like the one in your video too. Thanks for making this video. Just spent $65 and both controllers are so inaccurate they’re unplayable. I’m so bummed.

Thanks you helped me identify mines a fake -___- This was a very detailed response. The seller told me he only sold his because they were for personal use. I checked the listing and it shows he previously sold 25 controllers. Which I am sure are all GOOD FAKES, and you don't spot it unless you test it. Also, the blinked like 21 times before finding the PS4 device. Very sad.

You're absolutely right about Sony Computer Entertainment vs Sony Interactive entertainment. Because sony computer Entertainment changed their name on the middle of 2016 to Sony Interactive Entertainment..right when the 2nd generation of controllers are produced. Interactive is the word used now on newer controllers compared to Computer on the first gen.
Having a controller with Sony Computer Entertainment on the back doesn't mean its fake.. it's just the first generation dualshock.

the fake ones will definitely have input lag in regards to the analog sticks, its noticeable straight away in fps games.

I like the format and there was definitely some things here I didn't know (especially since I'm not that much into console hardware, either).
What you could do to improve it is to use separate shots of the stuff you want to show - like when the camera didn't want to focus on the logo. Just take another video/images later and put that in the video instead of you trying to get the camera to focus.
Thanks for the feedback! I've never really done videos like this and messing with a bunch of new ideas this month, so tweaks like that aren't things that cross my mind so readily.
Cutaways and meaningful B-roll can be effective when done right. If Zakh wanted to keep with the "live" feel with limited editing for these types of presentations, then perhaps a second camera which he can switch to in OBS would work as well.

He looks at old guns instead of computer hardware, but he toohas to show a lot of small details. He's done that stuff for a while now and is quite good at it.
In Las Vegas people sell these controller ls for $40. The feeling of them is lighter than the original controller along with the Analog sticks that will malfunction after a short period.

On my fake one, the sticker also got an air bubble, but they pinned it out... :D 🤣 Im totally stunned.🤣🤣
I got one of these fake controllers from Amazon for €18, and one of the things that gave it away for me was that the battery inside is a generic 600mAh battery in heatshrink, but all the buttons and everything else feels just like the real one, it responds perfectly ingame, and even the sticker on the back has everything correct that you show in the video. The circuitboard even has quality soldering, all the parts correspond, even that horrible silkskin Sony love to use, the box looked original with all the proper lettering and branding on it... I'm kind of wondering if maybe mine is actually a reconditioned factory defect. But I'm not complaining, I'm happy with it, because I bought it to replace the original on which the sticks have terrible drift issues with less than 50 hours of use. So I prefer thoe one I got than getting a real one for more than 3 times the price if it's only going to last me about 50 hours. I have some new sticks ordered for my original, but they are taking so long to arrive... And besides, the original is boring black, whilst my real fake is a very nice looking rose gold.
That makes sense yeah, a lot of the 'fake' ones are actually repaired or refurbished old ones out back in their legit boxes. As long as you got it cheap and it works it's still good.

wow i really regret buying the fake controller. i hope i would have done little bit research before buying a controller. it feels distinctively weird when u play fortnite. my aim and building is so ass and i can barely crank 90s cuz of this shit controller. now that i know about the differences , i will make sure to be more cautious before buying a controller.

It is there for the fake one. I talk about it in the video. So many people comment that there isn't a logo there for the fake one when I specifically talk about it. It's just a different colour that's harder to see.

The lightbar is also night and day between fake and genuine. Specially when charging. Fake DS4 lightbar doesn’t “pulsate” while charging unlike the genuine. The fake one slightly flickers when dimming while charging.

@Itchyscrotum _testicles It's still possible to play with it, it's just inconvenient for games that have a First Person POV since you need to push the stick a little bit more than normal to even get the camera moving. This SUCKS for FPS games, but it's not that much of a problem in other games that don't require aiming precision etc etc.

I try to get most of my controllers in store so that it’s guaranteed to be the genuine article. But I am a student so it’s not easy to resist a bargain! It’s a good refresher. :)

Youcan also always check the price because normal ps4 controllers are about 64$ unless you get the basic black looking one which is 60$ because it doesnt look as "cool"

I was looking on amazon and there are even third party ones that use the same mold now. Just crazy but alot of people say they go back quickly cuz of weak batteries. Cant beat the OG with hardware.

The Power A dongle adapter was the final test. It didn't fit on the cloned DS4.
The serial numbers were different too. The fake had letters in the number... all the originals i have are numbers only.

biggest difference is the crappy fire hazard battery that comes with it when you open up. plus the board and sockets are obviously different on the inside.

I bought a preowned Sunset orange controller from Gamestop, seems like a genuine ps4 controller but had it's shell changed with a orange one. The thumbsticks are black... no sticker on back.
Of course a video format like this is nice, you're good at explaining stuff and it's fun to listen to you. Not sure how it would fit your channel though, but if you think of more stuff to show us in a format like this, be sure to do so! Just don't become an unboxing channel XD
it's hard to buy cheaper alternatives of the original ds4/xbox controllers because most of the time they have inaccurate left/right sticks and for competitive fps games like cod/apex those controllers are unplayable..i wish there are companies who start making accurate controllers with affordable price, we already have that in mice companies who provide products with similar value and quality to the top brands like razer/zowie/ss/logitech but with half the price. instead with controllers, we're left with original ds4/xbox ones and the overpriced scuf controllers..

The big giveaway is playing an FPS. The authentic controller camera control is smooth, while the fake has sudden or jerky camera controls.
I'm trying to find a nice deal on a new dualshock 4 since next gen is here, but ebay and amazon are riddled with some fake controllers. (Since they're out of stock on amazon at the moment.)

Question is, how are you going to pull the boar in AoE2DE with any of those controllers?
Any and all internet sales ads such as one sees on Ebay, Amazon etc etc etc, have basically the same written is small text somewhere on the ad a disclaimer which states photo's shown may not represent actual product. Thus one can view actual photo's of a real controller but receive a fake.
Not to mention sellers who put fake controllers into legit boxes. Though here in Asia most of the time sellers will actually show photos of the product. In Malaysia we have Lazada, and photos on there most of the time show these mistakes I point out. Worst case though, you can at least identify if you received a fake or legit one and it's grounds to get a refund or return in many cases.

I almost got conned into a fake one on Facebook market place, price was a little less than they normally are in store so I was instantly suspicious. Best thing to do is just buy from a trusted retailer. Its worth spending the money
GamerZakh making hardware piracy interesting. Very detailed video and awesome explications/demonstrations. Never saw the air bubble but I believe it was there, I mean they missed a space and put the old name on it so why not.
easy way to spot a brand new fake is by the packaging style, the controller will be red for example and the box says jet black . Original dualshock 4 doesnt include a charge cable most fakes do . best way to find out is to open the controller and compare the motherboard to an original

I bought a PS4 controller from Wish and I did notice these differences but didn't see it as a big deal at first. Then I noticed that the controller turns off for no reason on certain games, the feel of the controller was weird compared to real controllers, and it had a very short battery life. It doesn't even have the Sony logo. I wish these types of people that make and sell couldn't get away with this so easily. But it's also my fault because I wanted to buy a controller for less than 30 dollars. The point of this story is don't be cheap when it comes to buying stuff like controllers because your fun time is important to you.

After you brought up the label and the stiff sticks I checked mine and found out it was a fake. It was on black Friday sale so I bought it. It works fine in general but for shooters is really useless.

I can guarantee you the fake ones have these mistakes because they don't have the materials and skills to fix them. Mainly, the people making these controllers don't even speak English, so this video isn't going to help them much haha.
I think you're right because the logo isn't stretched and the air bubble isn't there and sticks are fine but it doesn't charge right
Lots of fakes don't have a stretched logo or air bubbles before. Btw, the stretched logo is done on purpose to skirt the loose copyright laws in China. If they change the logo even a bit, it's no longer copyright infringement. So it's not even an issue of them not knowing how to do the logo, but the fact is they do know and they make it wrong on purpose.

I have been looking at ps4 controllers online at the big name stores and the price is usually $59 or $64.
The cheapest I saw was $46 new from walmart. Keep checking prices because right now they are selling for $70 on walmart from other sellers. Wait for the price to come down or pay the $60 at target or best buy.

I just spotted another thing. The model number on the back will have a space followed by the last 2 digits. The real model number has no spaces.
Just bought a controller and the seller sent me a fake one. They didn't even bother to print the logo or the brand name on the controller. Tested the buttons, analog sticks and triggers on a website. It's all subpar to the real thing. The original controllers thumbsticks have 6-7% innacurracies while the fake one is over 20%. The right trigger has a deadzone of about one fifth of button travel. Also, the fake one's lightbar's hue cannot be modified while on a PC the original can be full spectrum.
Just bought a PS4 slim with 1 controler, real cheap. I was fully expecting the controller to be fake. But as it turns out it may be a genuine one! Wow lucky me!
That's great! PS4 stuff can be pretty cheap now that the PS5 is out, but there is still a lot of fake stock going around.
