See Cedar Point testing the new Top Thrill 2 coaster

- Cedar Point said it is resuming testing on its new Top Thrill 2 roller coaster ahead of the amusement park’s opening on May 4. During the testing phase, engineers are programming the roller coaster’s fully automated ride sequence, improving the linear synchronous motor launch system, testing rider safety systems, running it through its different speeds and getting state licensing.

I agree. Nothing will ever beat that original launch. That being said, the new swing launch will be far more reliable and we wont have to worry about getting to ride it when we visit.

Its cool that top thrill 2 has a swing launch but at the same time that's a lost in my book on the extra hours spent in line for what seems to be a minute and a half to 2 minute ride, this would be even longer of a wait since it being a new ride at cp but nothing would compare to the og because I believe what gave the name top thrill dragster was its height at first glance beside the overall layout theme but the thrill you get from going 0-120 and reaching the top in a matter of seconds, let's hope tt2 live up this its precursor
We were at the park one year on NASCAR day. Dale jr. had just gotten off of Top Thrill as we were walking by. He had the same look on his face that I did after my first time, that "what the hell just happened to me" look. Made me feel much better

I completely agree. They scrapped the most thrilling part of this ride (the launch) and turned it into a snooze fest. I’m so pissed at CP.
@@bcjammer87well it did kind of explode and nearly kill someone. Hydraulic launches are unreliable and kind of dangerous. Shame really because they're awesome.

@@Moistme69yes actually because it takes like 10 seconds to go from 0-120 on the 3rd “launch” which is more of a free fall and then a slow acceleration from 80-120

@@Moistme69dude fr these people don't understand what it'll be like going 80mph backwards up 300+ feet on that spike. Then the raw, sheer speed of that 3rd launch will feel incredible.

I don't know why it can't blast you off to where you go a little more rhan 3 quarters of the way up! It has that capability.

I remember when Top Thrill Dragster 1st came out and was a must ride coaster. With this version it is no longer the case!

Yes! Seems like zamperla didn't get the tolerances right on the wheels with the intamin track which is no shock....

I noticed it too, I find that pretty concerning.
Now we know. This new method gives a little more of a ride at the expense of the single launch. Hopefully since the maintenance will be less, the ride will run more, thus making up for the extra seconds of ride time.
I do not mind losing the intensity of the original launch for the gain in ride duration achieved, and the speed and height of that reverse launch.
It was only 17 seconds long before, had a risk of injuring riders if they were not properly braced for the launch, and a rollback of any kind was not guaranteed.
They've managed to make rollbacks part of the experience, while not going so fast the first time that the magnitude of the reverse launch is diminished, achieved a pretty impressive reverse height, kept the strata status, and kept the iconic Intamin structure we love. Enthusiasts love to be unenthusiastic.
please tell me they still have yet to paint the thing, i mean surely its gonna be just white??? It gotta sucked the excitement out of the whole thing just seeing how bland it looked compared to the original red and yellow
For those of you who don't know, there is a missing seat in the 5th row. This seat is specifically designed for guests with disabilities to ride Top Thrill 2. The seat is not at the park yet.

I'm excited! I rode Pantheon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and it has a swing launch which is pretty intense...I can only imagine how it will feel on TT2!

How high is the Spike drop straight down?
You’ll probably be close to 380+/-ft depending on where you’re at in the train. I think the top of the spike is at 400’.

@@travisvanalst4698I thought the top of the spike was at 420' with the tophat. Even though you don't go that entire length, going over 350' backwards at 80mph is going to be absolutely nuts

Like how is that exciting. The initial launch is 0-75, second launch is going to be just enough to push it 25 mph faster. No a lot force needed for that. And then to reach 120 from 100. Is gonna just feel like nothing. This sucks. I bet this will disappoint everyone

@@squillz8310 I will ride it. But I don’t think it’s gonna be like it use to be. I think it’s gonna feel a lot like how wicked twisted did. Each launch after the initial launch wasn’t as intense.

Two things bother me
1. Make the launch strong enough to do it on one pass. I'm tired of these launches being so weak that it takes 3
2. There was no reason to make that spike that tall. It stops like 100' below the top of it. It didn't actually increase the overall height or anything, so a 300' spike would've done the same job and been cheaper to build

The spike is 420' tall, you go up at least 350' which you don't seem to understand is *insane* for a vertical spike.
Also, the amount of energy required to launch train that fast is incredible. They can use a lot less energy by doing sequential launches. Also you keep acting like you know this ride even though it's not even open yet. Everyone's crying that the original launch is gone yet you're refusing to look at every single upgrade that's been made from the original.

Snooze. I won't be making the journey to Cedar Point for this ride. They took down Twisted Sister, a failed ride, and stuck it onto the back of Top Thrill Dragster while yanking the rocket launch out.
