Reading one article in newspaper takes like 10 mins and once they've finished, they don't remember what did it sayin the beginning because they've concentrated so much on getting grasp of the text word-by-word... There was guy like that in middle school in my class. Teacher helped him to prepare for the exams by reading studybook texts on tape. He had adapted curriculum (as little text as possible), also later in vocational hs. He chose car mechanics course and graduated 1/2 an year later than most others in our age group. I think he works in one of the local carage shops now

I don't know if a beam has a "power level", its not been talked about atter this panel. Either way, it was powerful enough to kill Raditz and Goku in one hit. Does it make sense for a beam to have a power level? I mean, that would mean Piccolo put everything in him and more into a beam. If he's building up ki and regenerating ki naturally over time, maybe it makes sense, but still, thats nearly 3 times piccolo's power in a few minutes.

I dont recall the number off the top of my head, but if you assume that the rumber he reads is the power of the attack, (which you might, because it is a number that is greater than piccolos base power reading) then we actually would have a number for how strong it is.
For those that don't know, they did this on purpose with the writers permission. Since dragon ball was so huge, the anime epsiodes was coming out before the manga could get finished. They extended the scenes by adding stuff like this and filler episodes to allow the manga to catch up. That why you have so much screaming, talking in battles, and scenery shots with nothing going on. That's why you had a bunch of episodes with stuff like the fake Namik which wasn't in the manga. Anytime you see a bunch of pointless fillers or talking, that's what really going on. They did the same with FullMetal Alchemist. The anime was almost finish but the manga was 70% done. Anime got permission to finish show with whatever they wanted the ending to be. A year later, they finished the manga and redid the anime which is FMA Brotherhood.
While its true the finished Special beam cannon wasnt read. Raditz did note Piccolos power level rising steadily while charging the attack in the manga, he also noted something similar happened to Gokus when firing the kamehameha. Vegeta even made a comment on how the earthlings power readings were useless because he noted from the fight how it varied based on how they concentrated their ki.
Sucks that the coloured ver is the concord ver and that the english for it only goes up to freeza saga (i don't think it would be hard to do for English but at the same time there's a lot i onvi dont know)

If you're going to count every filler scene in the anime as a "difference" from the manga, then I guess you'll have enough material for a few hundred Shorts.
The biggest difference and mistake of the anime is making this arc the first arc of a second series. This story does not work as the beginning. Most of the pathos and shook of all the character deaths become hollow. Since you would have no idea who anyone is. Kai had the opportunity to correct this by making it all one series but once again ignored the prior story arcs. The disrespect to early Dragon Ball needs to be studied.
