    I wish the SATA design/spec would have allowed power within the SATA data connector too, instead of a separate cable...

      Supposed to show how to connect the cables but the presentation is covered by a hardware and the ends of the connecting cables that are the reason for the presentation are hidden. How come?

    Fun fact, if you are working inside a small annoying case like a dell, and you're too lazy to move things out of the way and unsure if the cable needs to be flipped over, you can look in the cable, and the elbow of the L shape inside of the connector goes in the center of the drive.

      You plug the other end of the sata data

      That's the other end of the SATA data cable which transfers data from the motherboard to the SSD or back.

    this is not sufficient in many cases. The new SSD must be configured properly for the computer to be able to use it. That may sometimes be very tricky but Windows has the tools for it.

    Can I plug this any of the sata ports? Like It's sata 3 but I'll plug it In the Sata 1 which the mother board clearly says that it is the sata 1-4 ports...

    i’m entirely new to pcs. I bought a new sata ssd and installed it, replacing a previous one. But my monitor says no operating system found when i power it on. Do i need to get windows onto the new ssd, if so how do i do that? There is also only one sata plug in my computer. Please help

    Help please, I have 4 ports and my hdd is connected to the lower left one, I connected my new ssd to the top left and lower right ports and my pc wont detect the ssd, can you please guide me? Thanks in advance

      You may have to format and set up the partitions inside windows

    hey thank you very much for the tutorial though however what kind of ssd sata cable is this excactly? I have been trying to find this cable but it's a little diffecoult since all the pictures all look the same. what excact type of ssd is this in your vid here?

      @@icg65s so there are two types of SSDs one requires no cables but you have to have a motherboard that supports. And the other is a 2.5in Sata ssd it requires a Sata Cable.

    So right now I’m using the plug of sata to usb and I have the ssd running fine that way, I wanted to plug it directly into the motherboard like the way you showed, I ordered a data cable from amazon and hooked the sata cable of the psu to it, it ran verrryyyy slowwww and windows was unusable, I tried to change the sata port and the sata cable used two times and its the same.. what can I do? There is still like 2 sata cables of the psu that I haven’t tried but booting it up takes so long that I gave up trying the rest of the sata cables.

    My hardware has a third connecter with 2 prongs on it. It’s next to the smaller one and the hole is shaped like a T anyone know what this is?

      yes that is typically what people do. You can set the boot order if needed though.

    Just got a MSI rig off new egg, it came with a SATA cable, but for the life of me I cannot figure out where to stick it. The 2 TB SSD doesn't look like what you have at all. Its a tiny stick now days O.o
    I looked all over it, well the parts I could see, which are the sides, and it doesn't look like you can plug the SATA into it from either end. I cannot see the top or bottom as the GPU and CPU are on either side. It kinda looks like it is just plugged into the motherboard directly from the back plate I guess?

      You probably have an NVMe. There is a video on “how to build a Pc” on my channel just fast foward to the SSD install and see if that is what you are talking about

      No the sata power is connected to the power supply

      Yes, it is necessary if you want the SSD/HDD to receive power and turn on.
      As for the SATA data cable connected to the motherboard, it is also required so that your PC can communicate with the SSD.

      More than likely your data power is connected to your power supply… so there might be a Sata cable you’re not using… or you might have to change out the entire power supply

      It’s not actually inside your PSU. It does have to come from your PSU though.

    So I have a hard drive that’s a Optane Intel + 932GBHDD
    And I’m running out of space and want to purchase an SSD for 1TB to act as a second storage device!
    Do I need another sata cable connected to the new SSD as well as one for the power supply? I’m asking since I’m unsure if I even have enough plugs for it!
    My computer feels rather old and I could use some help honestly! (Also my noob confusion 😂)

      So you can use the same cord that is coming out of your power supply. But you will need an additional “data” cable to plug into the motherboard

      as long as your PC has the slots for the drives you can plug up as many your motherboard allows.

      The SATA cable is what give it power. That’s the bigger cord.

      The bigger connector goes straight into the power supply or is connected to the power supply.
      The smaller connector plugs into the mother board.

    Not booting up for me. Nothing loose. Works fine when I remove hard drive. Won’t boot at all when I plug it up

      @@MMillerPCs yea. Won’t even give me a black screen or anything. Has power for like 0.2 seconds then nothing. No error codes on motherboard or anything. When I unplug it and boot my pc up, works instantly😭😭

      That’s the only sata power that will work on those.

      @@MMillerPCs to late, my PC is broken cuz I tried to case swap and it broke and now I'm buying a new pc

      And btw, when I case swapped I had NO IDEA on what I was doing with the cables, LOL. Hp prodesk 600 Sff g1 I think, into a Thermal take H18. The cpu cooling was loose and melted the cpu and just, my luck it bad and seems like you have experience so maybe, can you make a video and Maybe buy the EXACT computer I had? And try to case swap into a Thermal take H18???
