Your advice and step by step repair was awesome. I got back to my car today in the heat to find 60% of my sunroof liner hanging down. Literally looked like yours. I followed through all your steps and completed perfectly. Can’t thank you enough. Reckon I saved at least $500!!!
Dude - that was freaking amazing. Only critical comment is you didn’t put those side accordion things back. But man was that well done. Probably the best RUclips diy I’ve seen.
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen for a step by step repair video. Instructions are clear, photography is professional level, and an extreme attention to details. I was a bit reluctant at first when I saw the video, and wondered whether it would be easy as it seems! Sure enough it was straight forward and within an hour I had the sunshade removed stapled and replaced. Thanks man…. Great video and great instructions
Thank you! This video was superb. I didn’t think I would be able to do this w/no experience but your step by step video proved me wrong. I also loved the other cast members that made their way into your video. Adorable. Thank you again and please keep up the great work! **ps you did miss the last part of reinstalling the lateral rubber pieces back, but I got it, np!
I used this vid as a tutorial. Followed step by step while attempting on my e90. Really super helpful. Saved me a good lump of change. Results were AMAZING. thnx
Absolutely fantastic! I like that you over explain. You never know the level of experience that a viewer may have. One of the best I've seen. EXCELLENT! Thank you.
Omg! You don't even know much I appreciate your thoroughness and detail! You just helped this single Mom get the job done just in time before the rain🌧 !
I was able to follow it step by step on my 320i however the sliding tracks were a bit different for me I didnt have any clips to remove or unpin just 4 little torx screws and I didnt have to remove the back portion of the sunroof cover I was able to slide it out after removing the tracks on the sides, but the finished result was perfect. Your video saved me $160, thats what the upholstery guys wanted from me, thank you so much for the lesson very well demonstrated 🤝🏽
This is a pretty simple job. But I would have never got through it without this wonderful, step by step video. 1st Rate. Will always watch what you produce. Nice job!
Thank you! I just used your video to repair my Mk 4 MC Mondeo sunroof, which was almost exactly as you described except even easier! The only minor changes is that there are 4 T25 screws rather than 6, the black plastic thing doesn't need to be clipped out, and the sliding cover is held in by T15 screws rather than the clips on the BMW. This makes it even easier and quicker. The accordion covers are the same, the white plastic shrouds over the metal tabs are the same, everything else is the same. Edit: Is handy to have an assistant when replacing the sunroof, to align the glass with the roof.
Helped a lot! I wound up having trouble to getting the glue off the head liner. So I used Rust Oleum Titanium Silver spray on the head liner - not an exact match, but I don't mind the offset in color. One thing I'd recommend is vacuuming the area where the sun roof and shade get push back as there is still residual dried glue that sticks to the sun shade.
i normally dont comment under diy videos because most of them are trash. yours is straight to point clear cut. made this a breeze for me and i appreciate you. #flawlessvictory #subscribed 🏁
Exactly what I needed. I have a 2007 E92 with the same color interior fabric as the car shown here. This sunroof shade issue happened to my last year. A complete eyesore. This video was very helpful. Thank you! 👍🏾
Thank u! I tried replacing my sunroof shade headliner in my Mountaineer, but I put foam on it, & it crumbled like a piece of paper, now I know I can only use the fabric alone with not even a thin piece of foam..
Stumbled on your channel when the flipping videos came up in my suggested, and I cannot BELIEVE you have a video on replacing the sunroof headliner in an e90, my car has needed this for so long, I will definitely be using this vid to help me fix that ASAP. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
This was a fabulous video. The one helpful thing I can add is that the orange-brown gunk is water soluble and will wash off with soap and water. I would have removed the fabric and hand-washed it it get rid of it and its stains. But hosing worked too.
Omg, i thought someone left my sunroof open and there was rust on the sunshade! Thanks so much for this video, now i don’t have to go to a mechanic and be overcharged for something so simple
This was a great help - thanks! I'll add a little info. My guess is the brown / orange stuff you see is some type of foam that originally gave the liner a soft, spongy feel to the touch. If you put adhesive on that old material your may have issues. The staple method is the quick / easy way to go. I did not go that way. The white color (is what you see under the foam and can be remove with a blade / hard scrubbing. The white material seemed to me, to be a weak point that could cause the liner to droop, so I wanted it removed. I got all the material stripped off down to the black shade. If I wanted a perfect job, I should have gotten a thin piece of foam and cut to the shade. Affix the foam to the stripped shade and then fixed the fabric to the foam. I did go the quick route here an put the fabric directly on the panel. Note that if you do this you should NOT use the heavy duty adhesive (like 3M - 20) as that will show clumping though the fabric. I found Fast Tack to give a smooth result.
Thank you very much for this extremely informative video! First off, I learned that I might be able to do this myself, but better than that-I learned that the BMW dealership service advisor at Circle BMW in Eatontown, NJ was full of shit and lied to me about the extent of the repair. I was told that the entire headliner needed to come out and that it would not be possible to repair the panel, only replace it. That made this into a $1000 job for the dealership. For this alone I am grateful. I wish I knew where you were located-I would drive there tomorrow and pay YOU to fix my car. Thanks again!!
@@BuddysDIY Trust me- both the service manager and the owner will be receiving letters from me regarding this matter. Dude where are you located-I want you to fix my car
Thanks for this great video. Very well done. Only question: how easily do the rubber accordion pieces go back in? Looks like that step got skipped in the video when you put it back together. Thanks again!
This takes all the mystery out of removing the shade slide, thanks a million, I'm just glad I didn't trash the liner when I removed it...thanks a million!
I would like to thank you for being so clear and so informative. you just saved me some money and I can’t think of anything better in the world thank you and thank you to the cat as well😂
Bro I just took most my interior out to clean some water from a sunroof leak, get it all back together then the fabric on this thing gets caught and now it's torn tf off. 😭 Thanks for the video.
THANKS SO MUCH BUDDY I WAS STALKING your channel to find the e90 flip video for this tutorial? did you delete it? just got a pick n pull (junk yard) part which happened to be missing the sun roof and i swiped a matching board with perfect fabric minus a bit of grease markings that came out w the steam, i agree you a legend bro thanks for keeping this one up!
Thanks for the clear instructions - repaired & done! Only thing, the glass for the sun roof doesn’t elevate completely when it closes (sits a little lower, not flush with the roof)..any reason this could have happened?
Unfortunately, this just happened to and now I have more crap to take apart. At this point, I feel like I should be a BMW tech who specializes in the e90. Thanks for the video!
F30 OWNERS!!! Its the same procedure except the inner shade has bolts instead of clips. The inner shade uses T15 bolts. Give a thumbs up if you found it useful.
Great video! I have a question though, my sunroof leaks water in the two rear corners. Im not sure if it did this before I fixed the liner or not but ive read that there is a sunroof drain port somewhere. Is it normal for water to be able to get through those rear corners on the sunroof? Thanks
Thanks for the video. I just followed the procedure and fixed the sunshade on my 2010 bmw 125i. The only thing went wrong is the rubber insert covering the mechanism got ripped on the passenger side 😂.
Thanks for the awesome DIY video @buddysDIY I'm going to attempt to tackle this weekend using your video as a guide. Before I start, I wanted to ask if you have any tips on seating the glass when re-installing to prevent glass from not sitting flush? As I've noticed many comments stating there's a gap when they go to reinstall the glass. Thanks!
Great vid man. Question- I’ve read a lot of blogs posts about the sunroof not sliding all the way in or out after repairs like this because it needs to be reset? Or something like that? Have you encountered that? Thanks in advance
@@BuddysDIY I have a question when I did all of that I go to open my sunroof and the close it the sunroof closes but opens half way and have to keep pressing the button to close it slowly
@@aldinkonjic32 I'd take the sunroof off and remove the sunshade and put it back together. Should only take you 15 mins. Be sure to take you time putting it back together and make sure everything lines up right. Something may be off track creating friction causeing the sensor in the sunroof to stop half way.
Only thing I have to say is that you need to push the glass up a bit (about half way) once the bolts are snug but not all the way tight. You will have a visible gap on the top of the car with the glass all the way closed if you just install the bolts at the very bottom of the hole.
I have been readjusting the bolts all day trying to get this right. The initial job was very easy, but for the life of me I can’t get the glass roof to sit right now. I’m terrified it’s going to leak.
