    This is very helpful. There seems to be a lot of misleading information online about how to service the panorama sun shade on a BMW E91, and lots of information I found seems to show a roll-up sunshade that requires the entire sunroof cartridge removal to service. Thankfully I found this video and it is exactly the same as my 2008 BMW 328i wagon (E91). You've saved me a lot of head ache. Cheers!

    Encouraged by your video, I set off to do the exact same thing.
    Took out the glass roof - no problem.
    Took out the front panel that's sagging - no biggie.
    Peeled the old glue and foam - no worries.
    Glued it back together - not the perfect job but it's hella nicer than the saggy mess.
    Put the panel back in the roof - closes no worries.
    Put the glass roof back - all great
    And then we bump into the problem.
    Trying to close the headliner sunshade while the glass roof is in place, it left a ~4cm/ 1.5in gap and would not for the life of it close all the way through.
    Anyway, two painful hours later, I realised what the problem was. At @0:26 you move the "rubber.. uhh, little wind protector"(TM) by removing it from top-to-bottom. I did it the other way around, and placed the rubber leads onto the wrong rail. Then the sunshade basically ripped those little rubber wind protectors. Took em off, closes no problems.
    I've noticed many X3 E83's don't even have those on them. If I get lucky enough to find one on a scrapyard that has 'em whole, I'll buy em.
    But fair warning to everyone trying to replicate this! Learn from my experience as well as John Bull's!

      I plan on doing this to my e83 next week but need to do the rear one as well. I'm glad i saw this comment so i need to keep an eye out for that. thanks.

    • @Pecinskey
      @Pecinskey Год назад +1

      @@omtejano Oh, shoot! Rear panel too? Good luck!
      Please please please be careful when taking the back glass roof part to access the rear headliner panel.
      Not only do you have two hard to spot and difficult to reach torx screws (one for each side), there's also a spring-loaded mechanism that you need to carefully disassemble and reassemble.
      Good luck to you and I'm sure you'll do a 10/10 job!

    Dude, that was the funniest video. I’ve watched in a long time. That made my morning. I’ve watched a lot of videos that were actually meant to be funny, and I didn’t laugh at all. This was completely classic! I laughed so hard that my face hurts. Thanks for your misery on that project. I’ll make sure I don’t do any of that.

    The key to this is to remove all or most of the original foam backing material. Then be sure to use automotive adhesive.

    you need to replace the entire board or get the headliner material . the foam is what failed on the material and caused the seperation. you spray the board only and adhear the new foamed material to the board . bmw sells the board complete for about 280. well worth it and looks original as it should and soft to the touch .
    thanks for showing how to remove it. i will be looking for the new headliner material but mostlikely be replacing the entire board as im sure the seharah color i have is hard to get

    Maybe if i have to ask you to name the tools you're using to remove the window i shouldn't be doing this🤔, but bmw quoted me at over 1200 to do this very job so.... what specific tools do i need to remove the window?

    • @JohnBullOutdoors
      @JohnBullOutdoors  Год назад +1

      You don't need many special tools other than screwdrivers, maybe a torx bit set and an allen wrench set.

    I appreciate your video but unfortunately you needed to buy the headliner. It comes with a foam backing and is much easy and forgiving to work with. Almost impossible to lay it bad or wrong with the foam.

    I have a problem with the rear one... it has broken the clips and the rear one is now stuck in the rear of my X5! Do you know, how I can pull the rear one to the front? It seems like it is blocked when i pull it with my hands 🥲
    Thanks in advance for your response and a Big TAHNK YOU for this video! 😁

      So, I have a 2004 E83 so don’t know if it applies to you and had the same issue where the back panoramic sliding cover got stuck. Had to remove the whole roof lining and figured out I was missing the brace metal piece shown in this video. Made sure none of the plastic latches were missing broken, slide it back into place where it meets the front one and that’s it.
