  • In this video i finally get around to fixing the sagging sunroof headliner on my BMW e36 M3. This was bothering me for a while, but i had to wait for the spray adhesive to get delivered because everything in the world is backordered right now 😂 .
This is a pretty easy process, just a little tedious at times when you have to remove the sunroof. I would have thought BMW would have made it a little easier to service the sunroof.. but we dealt with it.

The original material would've had a layer of thin foam. That's the part which disintegrates causing it to separate. I would've assumed you'd lay some replacement foam down first to give it some density then lay the fabric on top. You're not suppose to see those inner ridges. I suspect the foam smooths it all out.

yeah... most likely.. but having the ridges is better than the fabric hanging down and touching your head 😂

The proper fabric is already foam backed. In order to not see the ridges you still have to mask the ridges and foam backed material for the ridges. Spray adhesive. Pull masking tape and then stick together.
I went with alcantara. It’s 27$ a yard for foam backed.

Would this be the same for E90s? I'd assume so as tonight my lining didn't want to slide easily back when closing it. F**k humidity in the Washington, DC Area.

The foamy thing that binds the headliner, does it has sound proofing properties?

    • @chrisdz

id assume it has very minimal sound proofing judging by how thin it was..

Hey, when i close my sunroof the metal cover part always gets "stuck" and i have to slide it forward manually as you did at 9:07. It wasnt like this before, so i wondered if you have any idea why it might be?

im not sure how its secured to the sunroof, but it sounds like whatever holds it to the sunroof is worn down/broken. You might have to take it apart and see if anything looks worn/broken
