How To Stop Oscar Fish Aggression
In this video I show you guys how I prevent territorial behavior in Oscar fish.
Oscar fish can become territorial in a tank. Providing plenty of cover and hiding places can help stop aggressive behavior.

I have a question y the tiger oscar fish attack his frnd copper oscar fish. It has damaged his wings y it bites it. Or any other reson ?
@@sunilvvinayak6533 they are territorial and he has been in this tank by himself. They are good now
Sry but I am asking about my fish . they were good frnds from 1 month but from 2 days the tiger oscar bites copper fish . it has damaged his left wings
Suggest me some solution that the become frends again
@@sunilvvinayak6533 sorry to hear that. If the tank is too small they can fight. Try adding some tall plants to give them
Places to hide. You can also try rearranging the decor to break up any territory established
Beautiful tank! Thank you for the tips
Awesome, great idea!
Thanks!
Thanks for the tips
+SPA COORDINATOR ACE MARL TAPUCAY no proble!
great video i have a oscar arriving on wednesday cant wait ( just subbed )
Lee and Mandy Battersby how exciting! You are going to love your water pup.
I have same problem in a 125 gallon. These fish have been together for 3 years. i put the least aggressive one in a 75 gallon. You read many reasons why fish just start becoming territorial . I think it has to do with one thing there fish. There water can be perfect .They can have the biggest tank , I had 220 where they have done this as well. This has happened to me twice now. the last time 3 years ago.Personally if you have the ability seperate the fish . If not make a choice keep one . A good choice for a tankmate in my opinion ,jack dempsey/large convict/maybe a channel cat.
They have calmed down quite a bit. They squabble every now and then but nothing crazy.
I feel a bigger tank and some dither fish will help
Making an already too small tank even smaller is the fix for Oscar aggression?... Got it! Thanks 👍
Yup! Worked great!
What a nasty comment...so uncalled for
My guy is about 7” long. He rearranges everything in the tank. He’ll move sand, pebbles, rocks or whatever he decides needs to be relocated that day. A very busy boy and yes he can be very pushy with my two blood parrot’s that are half his size. For the most part though they like each other & mostly get along! 🐟🐡🐡
They’re too funny and love to redecorate for sure!
I have 3 oscars and two are fin displaying and side by siding each other, I can see they are always at it. But it only started after I got the red Oscar. They are in a strange 75 gallon that's tall not long, Think I should get a long tank for more separation, they are less than 3" still. Live with a channel cat and a bala shark.
Watcha out for that channel cat depending on size it will eat your fish.
I would get a bigger tank if you can they like horizontal space vs vertical space
Okay this crate is what I need. Nice tank btw looks clean 🧼 and those are some pretty Oscars
Thank you 😊
how much days will take to release them together ?
Currently we have six Oscars. We always make sure before we buy any animal we can give the animal anything it needs. To me this is not how Oscar keeping is done.
What size tank(s?) do you have?
@@GreenSaxon first tank that we have is 261 gallon, second tank is 185 gallons. And than we have 2 that are around 90 gallons. My husband and i are the same kind of crazy haha. We keep Discus, Oscar ,and Angel fish. We also breed blue Acara's. Plenty of water around our house😊.
@@Peggy_H Wow! They must me something else! Have you posted pics/video of them anywhere? Sound great.
That’s awesome 😀 nice setup. This was a foster situation. I was going to grow him out until he was big enough for a friends 150 but then the friend didn’t want him anymore.
Now that they are older there’s no issues.
appreciate that gentility. 🎉
Thanks
I have 6 pcs 2" oscars.- 2 mango oscar, 2 copper oscars, 2 grey tiger oscars. All bought together and housed together. But after 4 days. One copper is badly beating both bigger size mangoes. 1st day little copper were afraid of mangoes as they were also retaliating but now they left. So, aggression was neutral from both the side.
But now things changed the one little copper is attacking badly to both slighter bigger mangoes and now they are so afraid that they are hidding like cowards and shaking from the copper one without retaliation. Sudden aggression is not understood from the little copper and the way one copper is attacking to mangoes is horrible, like he will tear both the bigger mangoes alone. Moreover when I put the lights on then he starts attacking too much to make mangoes hide. But as I put the lights off he stops hunting and also mangoes dare to come out of hidden but it happens sometimes.
Grey tigers are also team up sometimes with copper and join the party but once or twice only. Problem is the copper one is attacking with super speed and non stop with mouth bittens to tear them and he is sometimes beating to other copper also and tigers as well but not like he is doing with mangoes.
Please suggest fast, as mangoes can be dead of fear and not retaliating now.
+Sandeep Banerjee you are going to have to separate them some how. You can make a divider to split the tank. Most likely you have too many fish in a too small tank. You would need a very large tank for 6 oscars.
6 pcs as if they're chicken nuggets😂😂😂
I’ve got 2 one about the size of Indie and one half the size. Both in a 190 corner tank. They have the odd scuffle but in general tend to swim together and tolerate each other..
Am I just lucky 🤣
Help !! My Oscar is pissed off he's attacking everything. He's picking up the rocks 🪨 and spitting it at me! He doesn't like his heater he's throwing his toys around had him since a baby
Sounds like an Oscar being an Oscar. I would look into creating a cage around the heater to protect it. Oscar’s will beat them up until they break.
Cool fish
thanks bud
I just got a new chichlid yesterday and my young Oscar ( about 4-6 months ) started attacking the fish a lot, we have a small tank and we would get a new one in maybe 1-2 months, I don’t have that type of parting to seperate both fishes so I had to use something to seperate both fishes, it’s not transparent either. please if you can give me any more tips to stop my new fish to get killed or attacked
Sounds like you are on the right track. As long as they are separate you should be ok. You’ll need to get a bigger tank or change the decor. There’s also a chance your Oscar will never like the other fish. Some can be vary territorial
I have two Tiger Oscars both of them are indie's size they are being so agressive and literally locking their lips while fighting can you tell me what to do?
Lip locking is usually a breeding sign. I would keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t cause any serious harm
I have 8 oscar 2 tiger 2 copper 2 lemon and 2 albino but all fish are attacking my one lemon oscar what should I do give me an idea
+Mohsmmed Najeem is the tank big enough? They will fight constantly in a small tank.
Hi sir, i have 2 Oscars and have had them for an year and they have always been friendly to each other but suddenly today they started aggressively lip locking and are vibrating a lot
Google says they might be mating but it can be harmful....what do it do
Keep an eye on them, make sure they don’t hurt each other: mine squabble daily. If it gets bad you’ll have to separate them
@@PoseidonsPets ok sir thank u so much
My wild tiger oscar keeps attacking my lemon oscar. What should i do?
Rearrange the tank or a put a divider in until they get used to each other
Brother can you please help me my 2 male Oscars are fighting
I have been keeping them in 85 gallon for 7 months but from last 2 week the bigger one is attacking the smaller how to stop the fight or aggression or can I keep the 2 males together?
How are they doing? Fish will fight occasionally, just need to keep an eye on them, make sure they’re not hurting each other too bad
Two days ago I picked up a white Oscar, and today I picked up a black tiger. The white one ate as soon as I put it in the tank. Seemed happy. Anyways, moments after I acclimated the black tiger into the tank, and released him, he already started pushing the white one around. They are both 3”. He’s been in the tank for an hour. Should I give them some time? Any reccomendations?
They’ll work it out. They’ll squabble a bit but should be fine
@@PoseidonsPets thanks for the quick response! earned a sub! ill see how they do after a few days. got a little worried but they are doing a tiny bit better
I know this been 4 years ago. So what's the update. Are they become friends. I am the same situation right thinking of putting separation. But I want them to be friend. Did you remove the separator in time?
Once they got close in size I was able to remove the divider. Indy has recently passed but we have a new juvie growing out with rip and they have been good together no issues
@PoseidonsPets they are both 6 to 7 inches now. Hopefully, I can remove the divider when time comes. Thanks for replying
This helped but in my situation my Oscar just hates arrowanas I guess
Arowanas are awesome! You should tell your Oscar not to judge a fish by its scales…
Hi! I was just given this red oscar about the same size as indie! i put her in my 65gal with my tiger oscar who’s about 5inch and they’re just not getting along! i’m gonna rearrange the tank again, and put up my divider, but would else would you recommend by chance? we really wanna keep her! i’m currently looking for a 75gal or bigger for her to be by herself but she’s gotta stay in my 65 for now. any tips?
I would do as you planned and then introduce them slowly. If they squabble that’s fine but they should not be violently thrashing and fighting.
Lip locking and pecking is normal territorial behavior. Violent thrashing and fighting is not
@@PoseidonsPets ok! thank you so much for your quick response! how long do you recommend i leave her divided for? week or 2?
It didnt worked for my tank....i did it for 2month...they have same size...but every time i realise them male oscar attack female ...
If your tank is too small it’s hard for them to create boundaries. Even in the 75 gallon they have a hard time sharing space.
Hey
I have 1 Albino Oscar and 1 copper Oscar...
Than I added 1 albino Oscar and 1 tiger Oscar to the tank
Now my Both albino Oscars are fighting each other...sometime copper comes and give a small bite and not mind...but these both albino are sooo Soo aggressive to each other
What can I do??
Please reply fast🥺
You need to separate them. They may sort it out themselves but if they are overly aggressive it may not work out.
If the tank is too small they won’t have the space to live happily together
@@PoseidonsPets oh...thank you for the reply!
Do you have an update on this? I'm having the same issue with my 2 Oscars, Ive order a 4x2x2 120 gallon upgrading from a 75 gallon. Do you think a fresh tank could help reset and territorial aggression.
The larger tank is going to help. I would also add some large plants or decor to block the line of site.
Adding some dither fish will help also. If you can add some medium sized fish to kind of distract from each other.
Mine get along for the most part but occasionally I will throw the divider up to give them some alone time and a chance to heal their battle wounds.
Hi im not sure if its agresion or mating what is the difference
It’s tough to say. Mating is generally lip locking and pecking. Aggression would be non stop fight to the death
how long the fish should be placed
A few days to give them a break and rest
oscar fish are agressive even in a bigger tank they would still fight i have a pair of oscars in my 428 L tank even though they are not adults one of them still bullies the other
Some fish just don’t get among
I beat you to it Brian Dotson! MUAH MUAH
That's ok Tater. I was on Skype with my family. My mom is really sick and it seems like she may not make it much longer. JUST KIDDING!!! Had to work late again today!!
Brian Dotson woah, that turned dark quick!
@@PoseidonsPets Just giving Tater a hard time because he didn't film with Patrick.
Brian Dotson ahhh! He’s not in the video! I haven’t watched it yet. I was excited lol
is it ok if i put my 2 oscar in a 20 gallon tank?
This would be two small for two Oscars. This tank is a 75 gallon and I would say that is even to small for two
Depends what size if there both still really small then you’d be ok but once they get like 3 inches each or so I would upgrade to a 75 then if then to a 125 or a 120
Hi idol nice.
Thanks!
How can i keep arownna with oscar of they attacking??
Probably a territory or hiding space thing. Need a bigger tank or more hides
@@PoseidonsPets my oscar is attacking arownna tank size in 6×2×2
Arownna is bigger than oscar
@@karankrishna200 I would remove the Oscars. Some Oscars can live peacefully with other fish and some cant, if it’s a large tank, you provided enough hides and territory and they are still fighting I would separate rhem
@@PoseidonsPets how can i choose a oscar like peace full fish that live with other fishes?
@@karankrishna200 some Oscars just have attitude problems. Each fish is different.
Actually mine are sow territorial they will want to kill the other one
Some will never be ok together
I have 5 oscars in a 20 gallon
Hope they’re small and you upgrade soon 👍
I'm too late I have 4 Oscar 2albino 2tiger they killed my albino only tiger Oscar left to me but anyways I love your video 😁
Sorry to hear that! I’m glad you liked it. Thanks for watching 🤗
hlo
Bro do not put plants in your fish tank or else your fish will get hurt
They are designed for aquariums. Thanks for the concern 🤗
Ok
How are plants gonna hurt fish ? My fish love my plants i got in my tank
@@jrsalazar24 it may be a cultural difference. They may not have fake aquarium plants where they live
@@PoseidonsPets ahhh okay gotcha
I wonder his using stick cause His arm cant reach the bottom of the tank
Hahaha
Heck yeah I was. If the T. rex 🦖 had learned how to adapt like I have then maybe they wouldn’t be extinct 🧐
I know the limits of my Rexy arms.
You should watch me try to scape my 60 gallon.... gotta stand on my tip toes.
