I have a smaller tank and I fixed the problem in about 15 minutes LOL. I took the back of my net (handle) and every time my powder blue gourami chased my other dwarf gourami, I got right in between him and told him who's boss. It worked like a charm. (No fish were harmed, I just got in between and made the powder blue boy back up away into my version of a time out corner). My neon dwarf gourami is thriving and they're best buddies again! YAY!
edit* Returning one of my babies is not an option for me, I love them too much. Plus, they were getting along great until earlier tonight.
I was looking for someone to say this it works just sit in front of the tank and every time they go at it chase it with the net
Its a little fish jail owwww🥺😂
Because they have been naughty 🙈
@@SimplyShrimps 😂😂😂
Put my parrots in the jail cuz the big red and smallest parrot too aggressive to other parrots
😂😂😂😂😂
At least they didn’t execute the fish
Omfg this video really just saved my fish’s life
That’s brilliant 😁
I love the name Josie.
I love the name Garrett.
I will be starting to do the same thing tomorrow with my blood parrot
@@RageBerries that's not gonna be end in good manner 😭
love the video man keep it up, I'm having problems with red eye puffers i'm creating hiding holes and different territories i'l see how it goes
I hope it worked out, puffers can be a bit nippy :o
I have a super mean balloon mollie… while I watched this he was up to his tank glass like shaking his head😂
Ahh! 😮
If u can make my parrots stop fighting man u deserve an oscar..they are one of a kind
I had a physco once.. He killed 3 of my Oscar's
One after the other..
Like your post. You kinda look like a real humble and honest fish keeper.
Thanks 🙏
My tip is that you return the aggresive fish into the store and buy the victim new friends like him. It really worked for me!
I did that too. But this new fish is very dear to me
So have 8 fish that get upto 14" instead of 4?
I've done this for 40 years, and it almost invariably works. The few times it hasn't worked, it's because the species was just in tirely too aggressive for the new species. In other words, if it doesn't work, it's the Aquarist's fault for miscalculating. That being said, green Severum are truly butts on occasion! He may need a few days in the Oscar tank! If you don't have an Oscar tank, get one. You need it to use as a threat!
Very true. You should always research your fish before putting them together to minimise any fish fights. I'll get an oscar tank at some point in my life ha!
Do you think this technique would work with my (young) gourami attacking my (1.5 yr old) angelfish?
I also need my gourami to stop charging my other gourami.
So a angelfish attacking other angelfish is my fault. Same species.
Same here I also have a green turquoise and a red shoulder. The bigger one constantly chasses the smaller one. He doesnt bother my Oscars or tinfoils, ig he just hates the smaller red shoulder.
Eh, it works on some fish; but some fish, like people, are too set in their ways 😂
my fishes are fighting, this will definitely help
Hopefully 🙏
Thank you, I am currently trying to separate the agresive one for a couple of days. Hoping for better results.
I'm getting aggression from a female pearl gourami who has started chasing my rasboras and corys. Weirdly she doesn't do it so much when I'm near the tank, only when I move away.
Hmm have the others got plenty of space to swim away and hide?
Contrary to that my pet fish gourami chases more aggressively when I get near
Some say to separate in an entirely different tank and for 2 weeks. Also completely change your tank decorations before adding back in.
Severums only show aggression
I have a baby red parrot fish, he always attack’s my baby oscars and rips his fins off😰😢
Parrot fish are known for being quite aggressive. Maybe try this method or change your decorations around so they have new territories 😁
Simply Shrimps
Thanks
I’ve made changes in the tank now, the parrot fish has stopped it’s aggression now👍🏻.
But now one of my albino Oscar have started to attack my silver Arowana 🤦🏻♂️☹️
Omg that video made me cry. (When you brought the fish back. )
Update: Guppies are doing better, all females are in, and I got a larger tank. I now have 16, as one of my mollies gave birth, made a purchase of two tetras, one pepper Cory cat, and three Platies, and another Molly. The time out for the Guppy worked.
Yay I’m glad it worked for you 😁
@@SimplyShrimps And now I have 7 precious little fry. Five are mollies, 3 are guppies
Congrats 👌
Goodbye to the big bully :D
Fair well old friend 🙈😂
We actually have a jail tank and it worked for a very mean fish that actually lived in the jail tank for 4 Years! Now he does not chase the fish but now is victim of another fish and that fish will go to jail.
I loved the captions. 😆 Turning the lights off, rearranging the decor and then leaving the lights of until the next day sometimes works because nobody has any territory so the previously subordinate fish has more confidence. I'm sorry you had to give him back but it was for the best, and on the bright side, you now have room for a new fish! 😁
My tank swap went much more smoothly than I anticipated, and my fish are being babysat by the lovely staff at my local Maidenhead Aquatics til the new one cycles. I'm using the cycling time to shop for new plants and think about all the lovely fish that are going to enjoy the extra space. 😊
Glad your swap went ok and my fellow colleagues at Maidenhead Aquatics are looking after your fish haha!
I think I'm slightly overstocked anyway :o Let's not forget my Black Ghost Knifefish will get to about 50cm!! :O
Simply Shrimps Ooh yes, I forgot about that! 😁
My goldfish have been together for 4 years and they seem to be chased by the bigger one ever since being in a new tank, I've found that an hour of time out for the bigger bully every large water change tends to help him out. Sadly I have to do it every time I deep clean the tank. But it seems to work even if it just an hour. This may be because they are goldfish or mating season( I've never known the gender of my fish but I'm assuming they have different ones idk). But yeah, quarantine or time out for an hour or two seems to work. I don't have a breeder box but I think I'll get one after this as I'm tired of getting a bucket and attempt to have it stay still in the tank. Great video, I'm glad to have come across it ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧
I has been partitioned the aquarium in 3 equal parts, No change 😭😭😭
@@mohammadashrafalishaik oh no! That's no fun (╥﹏╥)
Same problem, my goldfish keeps nipping at one of my other gold fish even when I change the water and decorations. I even put him in a seperate tank for a day but no change came about. The worst part is that the one that is being nipped at does not do anything to escape and withstands the nipping which is really miserable to watch. Someone help 😪
i thought it might work. i actually was looking for this exact topic
Fishes don’t care about all that water stuff lol they just like water
My gorami chases around my new algea eaters I’m scared
Eek! Make sure they have lots of hiding spots :)
I have the same issue but the algae eaters are nibbling at the gourami
My gorami won’t leave my angel fish alone
@@AnakinSkywalker-jq8xy did you find a resolve as I'm having this issue too.
Yeah my gorami is damaging other fish too
good job on taking him back to the store. maybe he needed more than one other fish, like the tank at the store
Yeah having more fish spreads the aggression but I don't want to overstock my tank at the same time.
Lol thanks that was real helpful
I have an extremely murderous penguin tetra (all information I found said they were peaceful!) who has killed something like 9 of his fellow tetras, and 2 otocinclus, by biting their fins and tails off. I tried everything - bigger tank, more plants, rearranged plants to break up sight lines, floating plants, and eventually got some active yoyo loaches to catch the tetras attention and stop him from picking on his own school so much. Eventually with a 4 foot tank, 6 yoyos and a school size whittled down to only 7 tetra, the murders have finally stopped. I'm glad it all settled down because I didn't want to get rid of this fish, he was a rescue from someone's filthy dirty turtle tank and had been intended as turtle food so I've always wanted to give him a better life than that. I know I can't have any other fish that live at the top level of the tank, that have a dark lateral stripe (like the otos) or are torpedo shaped (like a zebra danio) because that is when the worst trouble starts.
Aww.. Well i'm glad you managed to eventually get it sorted out :) Good on you for saving his life from the turtles :D
Nepolian complex much?
I have a naughty goldfish. We got it when it was a bit over an inch long. Kept him in a one gallon fishbowl till it was about three inches. It's now in a 55 gallon aquarium with other fish his size and he constantly sucks on them and chases them around. We have quarantined him multiple times but it doesn't seem to work. Gonna have to do something about it.
Eek! Glad to hear he’s in a bigger home but yeah gold fish can be pretty stubborn :(
Don't suppose you ever found anything that worked? One of my 3" goldfish has started harassing the other goldfish and is on its own now with tank dividers but it's not ideal long term 🙃
Just had same issue with a 6 inch long fin Oscar attacking an albino the long fin bully is now in with 13 inch Oscar’s and suddenly and all is calm he’s turned chicken 🐔
Thanks for the tip. Back to tropical fish after a 40 year break, had a Ruby Shark in a 22 ft tank then with no problems, was a nice gentle fish ever chased anything, have a smallish tank again at 64 litres but this ruby shark has become very territorial just these last few weeks. Am trying your “naughty step” approach by isolating him now, hope it works or it’s back to the aquarists 👌
Had to take him / her back to the Aquarist. Wouldn’t stop chasing the others. Think my Elliotii (?sp) Cichlid might have died because of being chased / stressed. Just too late to take him out !
All others know happy, nobody chasing or getting aggressive. 👌
Think I must have been lucky with the one I had years ago. Going to get another Elliotii to replace the one that died !
Great tips here. Aggressive fish can be tricky
They sure are 🙈
This guys video is useless
Thanks for watching Ethan 😁
I didn't even know this was a thing, but I also put one of my sparkling gourami in fish jail lmao. She's this tiny naughty thing that goes after her bigger tank mates and just ends up getting herself beat up. The first time wasn't long enough cause a few days after getting out of jail she was back to getting herself beat up. Jeez.
my fish keeps bothering the others lol
They say Blue acara peaceful 😁🐟 but 2 of them killed my small slow growing angelfish platinum by eating the eyeball🥶
Oh no :(
My goldfish did the same, and i found my culprit. It was the splashing(is that wat i should call it?) sound of water going into my tank from a tube about 4 to 5 inches above the tank water surface. It got so aggresive, it chase any fish in sight. And my other fish develop fin rot. Remove the tube, no more sound and the goldfish calms down. No aggresion after that
Today, i switched one of my powerhead down (the one that pump air bubbles), after some while, all three of my goldfish started acting differently. I put my hand on top of the tank, look like i am gonna feed them. Surprisingly, they didnt come for food, instead, 3 of them would move around very quickly (add some aggresion into it), bumping into things. Put the powerhead back on, everything went back to normal.
Its very interesting to see them react to changes
Love the jingle
Thanks 😁
What I got out of this video is if you have a bully ban him from your kingdom
this video literally saved my clown knife from the death bc of the hampala barb
That’s great news 😁
I literally just subscribed just because the intro song lol
My freshwater shark is chasing my baby Koi
Well I’ve learned fish stores don’t quarantine
Does it work on dwarf gourami?
your music is the same music that the hotel chain Extended Stay America uses for its marketing
I face this problem in my Mbuna tanks, I simply swap the aggressive fish for smaller size fish at my LFS.
That works too 😂
I use fishing line and a two ounce weight. And keep them on a short leash
Good tip mate!
I did this with the dominant fish but now the dominant one gets bullied?
I actually put my bully fish into a tank with my loner siamese fighting fish! 2 minutes in with him and once I placed the bully fish back into his home ...he was a changed fish from that day on! 😅😊❤
I found if I turn the aquarium fish lights off at night. It calms them down.
It’s true have the light off does calm them down slightly :)
Very good way to stp atking fishes
Thanks 🙏
Sorry that you had to re-home him but I agree with the decision that you made. We have had to do that before also.
Yeah it's for the best in the long room and no more fish were harmed :)
Just went thru this with a red spotted gold severum that was dominating the tank and making everyone stressed. Tried all the tricks.. added more coverage, switched the decor around and finally removed him to a small tank by himself for about a week. It all failed and I had to rehome him.
I should’ve looked for this video before of the 2023.. attack
I don’t know why but a new baby Oranda has been chasing the much bigger fish
But the bigger fish r so much nicer and don’t bite back
I have 2 male dwarf gouramis in a 20 high and the one is constantly attacking the other should I give them a little longer to let them work it out or give up and just keep 1
Gouramis are best kept in a pair or trio of 1 male to 2 females. Hopefully that helps
Unfortunately that's impossible for me because they only sell males at every store in my area.
Fishes already in jail (fish tank). No need to put in another small jail. Bad boy always bad boy.😄
Very crazy!!! Buddy
Haha sweet, a "how to stop fish aggresion" video.. but didn't work. So now it's a "just get rid of the aggressive fish" video👍
Such a shame this guy didn't carry on with RUclips such a nice genuine guy 😏
Hey! I’m still here 😂 I have other life commitments at the moment but fully intend on setting up a fish room in the near future. Stay tuned 😁
Same here. I tried to keep one of the angry gold severum separately and also in a breeder box. It didn't work out. That fish is still chasing the other one. Let me also try ur way of returning to the shop.
I hope you sort it out :)
I have to decide between my yellow lab or my other 40 guppies 🤷🏽♂️
I’m surprised you still have any guppies left 😬
@@SimplyShrimps I know , everything seems fine after kept the yellow lab in cage for a week
I once had a goldfish who were biting other goldfish in my mini aquarium
Sometimes males can chase females around when they are breeding 🙈
It worked. I ended up putting my betta in a zip lock bag after I notice him chasing my Molly's around for about an hour thought he would stop until he ended up catching one so I Drew the line and he got time out. The zip lock bag had little air holes and was floating around the top with him in it for about an hour., when I let him out he just chilled out and actually just got along with them
Brilliant 😁
Lol i just isolated my bully gourami who has been eating my neon tetras. We'll see in about a week
Good luck
How's that isolation time going?
@@Joshua-zw7jl it actually worked! I decided to put him back in the old tank and seems like the bullying stopped.
Adding a territorial cichlid species to a tank first will allow the fish to establish it’s territory. The low stocking of open water species will only encourage the territorial behaviour unfortunately! Better off adding all territorial fish at the same time or added several at once. Dithers would also have helped in most cases.
Very true! Everyones getting along just fine now so hopefully the can all grow old and happy together now :)
We initially bought a couple of platys to begin with. Our female delivered babies back to back three times now one. We would often seperate the male at random times throughout the pregnancy to allow her to rest because he would just harass her endlessly and we did not want her to be stressed or over exert herself. We recently noticed our female was not eating and in fact missing her top lip 🥴😭😭😭😭 he has been in time out for four days now but we believe returning him will be our best option moving forward. We want to retire our female and see her enjoy a comfortable life (hopefully) moving forward. Unfortunately we have decided its best without him.
I’m giving it a go 🤞🤞
I have a 3 inch flowerhorn in a 12 gallon (grow out) and I tried to introduce it some tankmates. I introduced 2 tinfoil barbs, 3 inches each. Well he killed one of them 😢
Oops! Flower horns are well known aggressive fish and most people keep them on their own :(
Simply Shrimps yeah, I’m gonna try my hardest tho
Good luck :)
Stupidest thing I have ever heard!! He would just think it's food!!! Idiot.
Flower horn should be keep on their own. They will kill the other fish
You save my goldfish life from the mollies
That’s great news 😁
I got a opaline gourami that is a male who likes chasing the other gouramis in the tank. It is 75 gallons and has a good amount of plants. He is about 7 years old and had added the 4 new ones recently since he and the other two I had/have are getting up in age. Had two large kissing gouramis that he would often chase. One passed and the other one is still alive but has gotten sick but it recovering thankfully. The tank had been empty except for those three for awhile so I wonder if he is just breaking the ice with the new companions and such.
The worst punishment for a fish is sentencing them to time at a fish store
So I just introduced a blue gourami with my other 2 gouramis. They're all fairly small maybe 3 inches each. As soon as I introduced the new gourami, it started biting one of the other gourami's tails.
He sounds like Ali A😂
He’s my evil twin ;)
Back at ya with another black ops zombies easter egg tutorial lol
Working on it now 😛
1:12 that’s little box thing where can I get that I want to get that for my fish before I get return it
My 5 fish DIE BEACOUSE THEY BULLY it 😭😭😭😭😭
Lower the temperature after timeout
Thanks for the tip 😁
Ty this help bc my 2 redcross keep eating my fishes....which makes my fish less and less if this wasent posted it will be too late to save my fishies....
How can i tell the difference between play and aggression with my two male guppys, they make little breeding dances but also get like mad
Just get a stick and belt the aggressive cichlid. Fish aren’t any different from dogs man it works
Hey mate, just curious.
If your method "hitting fish with sticks" works, why are you watching and or searching for videos related to help with aggressive fish or fish time outs/jail for aggressive fish?
@@standardaussie some bloke told me to do it, and it was the funniest thing I ever heard so I tried it and it works; I'm a curious sort though so I had to go and see what youtube nerds had to say about it
@@standardaussie so yeah it's not my method mate I think it's an ancient australian cichlid taming method; treating fish like dogs. aka regarding them as much smarter than most people think
Both my red spotted and golden severum kept doing that to my green one. They are all around the size of a small coffee cup saucer... i got them all around the same time (they are about a year old) so, I took the two bullies out and put them both in a small 10 gallon tank until i decide what to do. I know, it is a small tank. I'm doing it temporarily. They are generally in a 40 gallon tank. The green severum is peaceful.. the other two are a bit mean. If i have to choose, i will surrender the two quarantined ones to a local pet shop, but gonna try to see if I can make it work.... I certainly hope I dont have to let them go.
I hope they all start behaving for you and you can enjoy them all in the same tank again soon :D
I have a aggressive fish and killed 2 of my goldfish
You killed two of your goldfish??
I just had this problem I have one chasing everything about ready to flush him down the toilet. I think tomorrow he going to fish jail
If a fish has fallen into my care whether i chose it or not I’m going to raise it and not just give it away. I’ve been taking care of my parents failed pond goldfishes for a few years now. I’d rather have some smaller colorful fishes but Would never take them back to the petshop not knowing who can safely rehome them.
Luckily I work at this fish shop and have refused sales of fish to people who do not adequately have the right housing for such fish. I also trust the other members of staff to do the same. I respect your concern though as some pet shops would sell fish to anyone just for a sale.
Underrated! 😔
Mmmm, choosing a favourite fish. Is the equivalent of choosing a favourite child? You did say that, right?! I'm just gunna call DOCS now
What if all my fish is attacking one
Take the fish out that’s being attacked?
@@SimplyShrimps I put him In a bowl and he just died with time. It's sad but you can't avoid it.
@@SimplyShrimps What would you do to feed a cleaner fish. They are always swimming at the bottom of the aquarium and there is no way the food is getting to him. And If I put more food in the aquarium the other will just die of eating too much
Marc02 oops :( what kind of cleaner fish? If it’s marine, I don’t know.
My fish did that to
Oh no :(
i have a fish that attacks and then kill other fish
What if the pet shop will not take the fish back ?
How long should I keep my female guppy in isolation. It literally bullied my other female guppy and eventually killed my male one.
Severum are also VERY aggressive towards their own species.
I had the same thing happen in my tank. I had to take one back then once the one I had left got bigger it started to bully all of my other fish so it eventually went back as well...
Yeah I learnt the hard way ha! Everyone is getting along just fine now though :) and growing big!
I have a betta who just won't stop chasing and attacking my neon tetra I'm now on my second load of neons tetra, iff he kills one more or I catch him atacking one I'm taking him back and getting guppies
Aww I hope he’s behaving now. Bettas do have different personalities so it can be hit and miss with them.
Ye he's behaving now and I got 5 neon tetra and 3 little sucker fish
Yay I’m glad it worked out :)
You may have the same issue with guppies. I have one male guppy that has bullied the other guppies, one of the bullied fish has had his tail fin ruined but can still swim ok so i have had moved the bully one. My betta will not allow any fish in his tank so he has his own 25l tank.
My platy has killed 2 mollies already and tries to eat my apple snails.....
😱
Lol that a badass platy 😅
update**** we put in a beta with him and he killed that too so now hes in his own tank 🤣
So I did this method to a fish that was bullying prisoned for a week now his the one getting chased by 3 guppies...
Hmm.. never heard of literally giving a fish a time out. Makes sense though!! It was worth a try before getting rid of him. Sorry you had to get rid of him
Yeah was definitely worth a try before just taking him back to the shop :)
My green severum is doing the same thing
Bad little blubbys
I have a rainbow shark fish and he is harassing my black gold fish:( I feel so bad if it better to remove the rainbow shark and put it in its own tank? Or the golf fish by itself?
I have a big black fish, and 2 silver ones, they keep pushing the black one and hurting her, the thing is I just can’t put anything in the tank as I have so many other fishes in one tank. Im scared and worried for her.
