    • @MasterPancakez

      Raven Shine yes they require about 2.5 gallons minimum and a heater and filter the water must be 78-80 degrees. Do not get fake plants it will hurt them live plants are much better. James has a lot of videos on them.

      you can also just do silk plants, some fish you have in your community tank could end up eating the real plants. I also suggest getting 1 or 2 marimo balls those will help you control your nitrate and will help balance out your tank; plus they are super easy to take care of and super hardy. c:

      It's fine to have fake plants as long as there are no sharp or ruff edges on those plants u will be fine I mean the betta fish is quite new an there is plenty of crap online u live an you learn if u make mistake it's a good leading curb I too am quite new as betta fish have really only just made it to the local fish an pet shops were I live so there isn't much knowledge or stuff known about them so I mean the research on them sometimes is a bit much u get told all these things like don't have this or that I was told at one point no stones or rocks then the dude at the pet store was like no u need a hide for them get what u feel is good for the fish an make them happy also to clear up the shrimp an fake plant thing I have ghost shrimp an they are more than happy with fake plants an eating food off the bottom I've now recently got real plants an sand in my tank as sand is super expensive in a two foot tank

    Beautiful Betta. Bettas often will eat shrimp. I would definitely get a lid and add some larger plants so your betta will feel more secure. Water changes ideally should be 20-30% once a week.

      Challenge the Wild yeah there known as leaf hammocks if that's what ur talking abt and if he seems to be resting a lot in the tank you can add one and they can rest on there if u get one I say add it either in the middle of the tank or at the top :)

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72 7 лет назад +4

      Yes, they're called Betta hammocks. Personally I think they're a gimmick! You're Betta would much prefer taller plants that almost reach the surface to rest on. Bettas prefer heavily planted tanks.

    Since the day i started having tanks, my bettas thrive in a community tank and live for atleast 6 years. I do 1 betta per tank. They love to stay in caves and spend most of its time inside. If you have a bubble or even a bit of air inside the cave, it will use it for breathing and wont even leave his territory. I never put my bettas in a small bowl like what people mostly do.

  • @spolanchek
    @spolanchek 7 лет назад +60

    Bettas can live with other fish. It isn't true wen people say bettas can't live with their fish. But it also is true. Some bettas are too aggressive to put in a community tank but some art as aggressive. I think he will do OK in there. Because he wasn't flaring in the bag or flaring at the fish right away!😄 Love the beta he is gorgeous!😍 tank looks awesome! I love the fish hobby. My favorite type of fish or bettas!! 😉

    • @spolanchek
      @spolanchek 7 лет назад +1

      Lizzie Carroll well that can be true. But some bettas do like having take mates. If you do put a betta in a community tank I watched them very very closely for the first week or two. If everything is gone good and there hasn't been any aggression or flaring then everything is good. But still need to keep an eye on them. if there is any fin nipping I'd take the betta out!😁 I had one male betta that lived with a community tank and never flared or attacked once.😁

    • @polyfuze
      @polyfuze 7 лет назад

      i believe you can keep as many bettas together as you want as long as you don't add them all at once and have a big 80+ gallon tank with lots of floating plants and niche areas. I have kept up to 17 bettas at once in a single tank with other fish and they exhibited absolutely no aggressive behavior i.e nibbling, chasing, or bothering other fish. Some even started laying eggs, which were always unfortunately eaten by their own fish.

    If i were you, I'd put in some dwarf anubias, dwraf cryptocorine, Elodea, Hygrophila, Guppy grass, HM (Hemianthus micranthemoides) and moss.
    Shrimp simply love the moss species and HM too. Also, HM and Hygrophila grow pretty fast (you must trim them sometimes), and so collect some waste of the aquarium.

    • @ChallengetheWild
      @ChallengetheWild  7 лет назад +1

      @babydonnaP 7 лет назад +2

      Yup she's right! Hygrophilia Polysperma grows like a weed even in low light, I'm needing to trim mine back in all 10 tanks every other week. You should definitely get some, it looks great, helps control nitrites and before you know it you could have a full planted tank.
      Mine started off from a single leaf that came with a bunch of Elodea, now all my tanks are full of it.
      Also get some java fern! algae grows on it easily for the shrimps.

      Azannah Morton don't do it, unless your experienced then you definitely should NOT try it, bettas are fighting fish, they kill each other. You may think you know what your doing, but you seem like you have no idea, the boy in this video is obviously not experienced as to not having live plants, and thinking of adding a Betta to a community tank.

  • @thymai4394
    @thymai4394 7 лет назад +28

    Some suggestions:
    - Get a nice tank thermometer so that you can easily see temperature differences when acclimating instead of relying on your hands. They're pretty cheap and very handy when keeping your tank temp in the correct range (they just stick to the glass so you can see the temp whenever)
    - Not sure if you did this, but when acclimating, gradually add small amounts of the tank water into the bag instead of just floating it in the tank. This allows them to get used to the water quality as well as temp. without the shock.
    - Remember to feed your betta (and other fish too!) plenty of frozen food as well as their usual pellets/flakes. Bettas are naturally carnivorous and require a very high protein diet to grow to their full potential and pellets dont usually provide enough protein (you can read the ingredients list and see how much fillers they put in)
    Overall, keep it up! You're a great fish owner!

    • @thymai4394
      @thymai4394 7 лет назад +2

      Also, make sure you put some plants at the top of the tank/use a leaf hammock so that your betta can rest/sleep at the surface because they need to be near the surface to breathe especially when resting. You can add long plants that reach the surface. :) Good luck!

    One thing I'd mention about the tank is that I'd add an airstone for better airation. While it may not matter as much to a beta since they have the labyrinth organ, for mollies I would strongly advise it.

    You should get some live plants to help with cleaning the tank, also gives the shrimp some more natural feeling and looking hiding spots. You also might want to get some dither fish (neon tetras, cardinals and other tetras) it helps with keeping the fish calmer and if you get bottom dwellers it tells them that it’s safe to come out. I’ve got a beta with 6 neon tetras and a bristle nose in my 5 gallon with a tonne of live plants and it’s going quite well!

    The plastic bottle baffle really helps slowing down with the strong current . Bettas don't like strong current. I did the same with my 20 gallon tank and it's been almost 2 yrs now, works perfectly. Just make sure you have no sharp edges around your baffle, trim off the corners ,so they are rounded corners.
    You don't want ur beautiful betta to rip his tail on any sharp edges. My betta is in a community tank with 10 neon tetras and 7 cherry barbs, heavily planted with live plants and a piece of driftwood wood. All of them get along fine, it's been over 2 yrs now. Yes, definitely get a lid for your tank, bettas are jumpers. Love ur video, and your enthusiasm for fish keeping!

    For your water change just Take out 20% of the water and get a bucket that is filled with chlorinated water and put that bucket with chlorinated water in your tank also depending on how dirty your filter is you change it out or just wash it off these are the things I do I have five tanks a 20 gallon 5 gallon a 10 gallon a 1 gallon and a 50 gallon I really recommend doing water changes every month Or less to keep your water really clean if you want it clean if the Berta Gets really aggressive in that tank take it out because they are known to be territorial But if you get another 5 gallon tank you could put it in there with little fish

If you notice the guppies fins have bite marks immediately remove the betta or guppies from the tank. 💕 (Also your betta may eat the shrimp)

    Shrimp are worth getting! And you said you wanted to breed guppies, that's way easy. Just put a few females in your community tank and then buy some Hornowrt. It's a live floating aquarium plant that will keep the Fry safe. Some will get eaten though

    Don't do shrimp with Bettas, he'll eat them

    • @bug1347
      @bug1347 7 лет назад +6

      Eric Ngo if you give the shrimp a lot of hiding spots and plants, most of them should be fine. Just get more than one or two shrimp because there's still the risk of the betta eating them and you don't want to constantly be buying more.

    • @ericngo2897
      @ericngo2897 7 лет назад +8

      Either way, it's not a good idea, Bettas are omnivores so you shouldn't keep it with shrimp, eventually they'll all be eaten, but up to him

    Idk if hand san is aquarium safe. Just wash your hands with warm water. NO SOAP. Edit: The flow of your filter may be too strong for you betta. If he can't swim against the current, buy a filter sponge or small unused sponge on the filter output.

    A good work around for community bettas is female guppies. They don't have large fins and they like to group with each other. Also, they're quite quick so they get away from any bullying fish. I don't entirely recommend putting a betta in a community tank but I'm quite lucky as my betta is very mild tempered

    Just realized this was a year ago lmao- but if u want a great community tank, here are a list of fish you can put in with a betta.
    Guppies
    Dwarf frogs!!!
    Cory catfish
    Guppies
    Neon tetras ( need a long tank for them as they’re a school of fish :) )
    Ghost shrimp but they’re pretty invisible.
    Kuhli loaches
    My friend put some angels with hers but I’m not 100% on those as they may butt heads, ( she did the smaller angels ) they’re both long fin nippers , they’ve been doing good but I’m not sure how angels would do with those other ones.

      You need to do an experiment before you add the fish. Place it in a fishbag on the comunity aquarium and see its behaviors if it flairs or looks agressive dont do it. Some bettas are pretty violend and tearing apart anything.But the best of all is to live it alone in a big enough tank, it will not feel lonely or scared this fish loves loneliness.

    Hmm, interesting. He doesn't look to be charging the others at all, but I can't tell if he's flaring his gills or not. How is he doing now? If you get the chance, invest in some live plants, like Java moss or fern. Not only will live plants help relieve stress in giving hiding places, but large leafed live plants give bettas a place to rest their fins, as well as live plants also help fight the bio-load.

    If you’re going to have shrimp for a few years of their life span then $6 is absolutely and definitely not expensive. ... and wow.. your white Betta is very pretty! .. I have a inner (submersible) filter that has an option to put the flow towards the wall of the tank which makes the flow calm enough for them not to stress. You can look into this type of filter.

    You can also put fresh water snails in your aquarium to help with cleaning. I have 2 male bettas and they love their snails. I was a little concerned about the size of the snails but my smallest betta is tanked with the largest snail and my largest betta is with the smallest snail. No one has killed each other so from experience, they do well with each other.

    Newbies are always funny to watch but no worries. Your betta will be fine as long as the other fish don't bother him so much. And the water is perfect for him because i see that your tank doesn't have too much water flow because bettas don't like that. Only think i recommend is real plants and more cave type decor for hiding. Good luck.
