You did a great job describing in detail how this all went down. I'm a retired 35 year car guy, Ford (33 with the same dealer) But I really think you're missing the boat somewhat by not giving the dealers namce. They deserve to be exposed by someone who knows what they're doing and experienced it first hand. Maybe this would influence the dealer community to take a step back and evaluate how they're doing business. I remember an old saying that I hated but I believe is true. Your experience was exactly like the 3 dealers I tried to do business with when shopping for a Maverick the past 18 months. I finally got my hands on two and had to walk from both due to slimy dealers. I'm not paying a $5-8k markup and $2-4k of useless addons on a Maverick. Paying $7-12k over MSRP for a budget truck is just dumb. I've pretty much given up on the brand. Ford needs to get this under control. I want a Ford vehicle, I can afford any brand/vehicle I want, but refuse to do business with such shady dealers. They're ruining the brand.

EVERY mainstream car manufacturer has dealerships like this. This horror story is not unique to this dealership and certainly not unique to Ford. It's actually reassuring that Ford took an interest in this debacle; I had a friend call Hyundai about a huge dealership issue and Hyundai corporate shrugged them off. The Maverick is a special case because it is a hot vehicle and people have to have them; like was said in the video, the dealer could blow the person who ordered it off and sell it several times over to someone willing to pay the premium.

Thank goodness my experience was a little different. I picked up my Maverick XLT order last week. They did charge me the $480 increase in MSRP from when I first ordered it as well. But at least they didn't do any other mark ups or add-ons. I was a loyal Ford owner for nearly 40 years. After Ford stopped building cars or anything affordable, I switched to Hyundai and have not regretted it in the past four years. Ford you are really doing a bad job and you aren't the same company my loyal Ford Family (going back to the 50's) knew and loved. I am so glad I bought in January 2019 before all the pandemic stuff hit. My car will be paid off in December (less than 48 months!) and I won't need to buy another. I am not going to pay over inflated prices nor will I play the games the dealer did with you. I also sold cars and you are never required to use their financing. Typical low rent F&I move trying to get you to buy at a higher rate so they can pad the backend.

We should team up on this subject. Too many order holders are getting bullied when they go to pick up their Mavs under the threat (duress) that if they don't pay 5k over, the dealer will sell their build to someone else at 10-15k over. My dealer actually had a +10k ADM sticker on my Mav when my wife and I showed up, probably to justify trying to charge us more, as if doing us a favor. This is shown on my video uploaded 11-6-22. The finance guy tried to get us to sign in a hurry and got mad when I asked questions. I took a photo of the original contract he put in front of us before we made him change it. Oh and like you, we paid their $500 paint protection because the experience was so exhausting and we gave up on that. I don't think it was ever applied.

Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us. I have had so many similar experiences at dealers and it's crazy because I used to be in the business as a General Sales manager but luckily I worked for dealership where the owner truly was a honest and good person and this stuff didn't go on in our store. It's so sad as you say to think of folks who don't know or understand the business , they truly get robbed. I've seen people try to trade their car in only to find out that they are so upside down in the value versus what they owe. So many times when I would look at their paperwork from the purchase they were sold warranties for $2000 and protection packages for another $2000 and then an insane interest rate so they would be impossible to trade in and unfortunately even when we would explain to them what happens in many cases they'd get mad at us thinking we were giving them a low ball number on their trade. It is sad and the manufacturers like Ford need to step in and stop this nonsense that goes on at far too many dealers. Thanks for sharing and I love your Maverick. We would like to get one but the dealers I've been in contact in our local market all want between $5000-$10,000 over sticker and I'm not willing to do that. They all have the attitude, that oh well, we could sell in ten times for that mark up so if your not willing to, goodbye. "Increasingly common" is an understatement. I tried to shop through 5 dealers in the Minneapolis MN area and 1 in WI, and all played these games. All of them would post MSRP on their site and would not talk about a markup until asked or when it came time to deal. Also one dealer is driving their Mavericks for a few hundred miles and then selling them as used with a "fair market adjusted pricing". Assuming that's to bend around looking bad for marking them up past MSRP... The Maverick is a cool truck but does not make sense financially above MSRP. Ford is really burning it's bridges with its consumers that want to be Ford owners but won't put up with their dealer BS.

At the end of the day, what most consumers truly hate is the last minute shaft, undisclosed amounts/fees, etc. Personally, I would maybe buy a vehicle that is slightly above MSRP if the dealership is just straight forward on their other aspects of pricing. I can at least respect if somebody says "we're charging $1,000 over suggested retail because of how rare these are to come by currently."; or similar. Not when you specifically order a model from the OEM, though - that's absolute bullshit. It blows my mind that as business owners, these franchisees do not see how these practices will inevitably catch up to them. Burning a bridge with a consumer in their 30s is probably the worst long term decision you can make as a dealer - think about all of the missed future opportunities from potential vehicle sales.

The best thing that has kept me from buying Ford products is being forced to drive them at work. So many cheap, fragile parts. At least 1 of our 15 car fleet is at the shop for repairs on a weekly basis, often times up to 4 at a time.

Oh my gosh, this vid is so appreciated. I want a Mav and am so distant from knowing what the dealership could do to me taking-advantage-wise. Thanks for this vid! If I pull the lever, I'll remember this when it comes time...and if you don't mind, I might reach out to you for some guidance.

    Your story finished me off.
I had decided not to mess around with ordering a Maverick and was considering giving up on ford all together.
Ford has good trucks but the dealers have killer it.
Thanks for the flash drive heads up, had not heard of that before.

14:46 Yes! Please tell your viewers! Noone should have to go through what you did and we do every day. There are only two Ford dealers in Michigan that will sell a Maverick without an extra markup.

Unfortunate that Ford makes this so hard.

Had a coworker get one and took forever. After 2 weeks of driving there was a crack in the block. Got them to replace engine. Then as they did that they somehow destroyed the transmission. So he got a new truck that had the engine and transmission replaced. I cant believe he actually kept the truck and not just threw it back at them

"What can I do to get you to sign today?"
Yeah, I've heard that one from almost every dealer I've been to. My counter reply is one I learned from my dad, "The only thing I buy same day are groceries. A car is a major purchase I need to think on and I am NOT buying it today."

I’m on my second Maverick purchased form the same dealer in British Columbia. I have nothing but great comments about the purchase, both times. I can’t speak about other dealers but Family Ford was exemplary.

I just got a new car. Did absolutely everything I could do and turned in all of may paperwork before my appointment at 2pm and I was assured the car would be ready. Ended up leaving after 5pm because of course nothing was done when I showed up at 2pm.

If you really want to make sure people don't shop at this dealer, then you need to divulge the dealer name.

I wish EACH AND EVERY customer would fight back like this man. I don't buy from dealerships often but I have had to walk out of more than I purchased from. I don't mind leaving empty handed but I cannot forgive myself if I allow someone to rip me off.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm weak on the lingo, it has been more than a decade since I went through this. Frustrated salesman turned beet red like he was about to pop. Process unnecessarily stressful on both sides of the contract. I think its time to go online only for new cars. Let the dealers sell the used ones.
