One thing I didn't even mention was that I had $317 on the GM Buypower rewards card that they applied to the purchase of the truck. They asked me if they could go ahead and apply in on 30 October when we made the deal. I said yes, and they did. I still haven't gotten that back, but it's effectively the same as cash. Offer + acceptance + consideration = contract. There was no reason for me to believe it was anything but a done deal when driving over there.

If you haven't already, see if you can't go up the chain to GM's main offices and see if you can't get somewhere. I'm a Dodge/Mopar guy but any time I've ever had an issue with a dealership, I've gone over their heads and the home office is usually in a hurry to make it right. When I had a local dealer (not the one I purchased from) do a warranty recall service on my Challenger and it came back literally covered with oily finger prints on the inside (and the recall service NOT performed, by the way), I went straight to the home office and they got the ball rolling FAST to make sure it got in literally the next day to make it right.
At the very least, they should get your rewards money back and probably can get the same or similarly configured truck shipped to a dealer more local to you in Mandeville/NOLA. Considering how much money you've given GM, they should be in a hurry to make it right. I am absolutely dreading trading my 2011 Range Rover Sport in because of exactly this experience. It isn't in the best of shape, it is an expedition vehicle and got treated as such so she's banged up but the cost to maintain is far exceeding the actual value of it so I'm looking to go to either a Jeep or the new Ford Bronco if it ever actually gets released.

So glad you called this dealer out. I cannot tell you how many times I have been scammed (attempted to) by these crooks. From what I gather from the pros is: Try to private sell any vehicle first. Negotiate the new vehicle price only, do not tell them you are financing or paying cash as this will have a big effect on the price. If they bring out the 4 squares paper tell them to save the snake oil speech. Decline every single dealer add on. Decline any Doc fee over a few hundred. Make sure there is no destination fee as that is in the sticker price. The add on fees are the big kickers watch those like a hawk and decline most.

Salesmen gave me a price, i said cool, gonna search a few more dealerships before dropping a large amount of cash and see who gives me the best offer. Wasnt saying i wasnt buying it from them but wasnt saying i was. As an auto tech I had a rule that no salesperson was allowed in the shop. I was not about to sacrifice my certs and license (In states that require them.) for the sake of his sale. Unfortunately the dealership is run by the salespeople and their influence is bleeding into service. Honestly the two entities need to be separate and run by different companies. Also to install new tires on your trade in would cost them $450 max, they only pay the Tech $20 for one hour labor and they get tires at cost.

I've heard a few attempts to explain it, mostly along the lines of 'race cars use it!'. And ok, nitrogen is very slightly less dense than air, but that won't help speeds or gas mileage. Then again, air being denser improves grip. Race cars use it because it's consistent wrt properties like thermal, moisture content etc, but less than zero benefits for regular drivers.. Especially when as John Bremner says, availability isn't great. Plus calling dealers to ask if they can do N2 fills probably adds a 20% sucker tax to anything else they might be planning to charge you.

My parents actually did that with a dealer in upstate NY back in the late 80s. They had bought a brand new 1988 Beretta GT and kept having front end problems with it. After the third time they had it in the shop for warranty work, the dealer tried to deny service. It escalated to the point my dad got hold of some corporate folks, and the problem was fixed. That dealer wound up having their franchise stripped by GM a couple years later.

Yeah, I had only one similar experience with a Honda dealer in Pennsylvania. Like you, I didn't need a new car but wanted to surprise my better half at Christmas. When I walked away from the deal because of the trade-in value (on a two year old car no less), the sales manager followed me out to my truck and apologized and wanted to complete the sale because I had purchased two other new vehicles at this dealership. I told him that I was done with it and not to worry about it that I'll purchase it easily at a different dealership especially since it was the end of the year.
Then my phone began to ring and the first time I answered it, they tried again to have me return and pick-up the new vehicle. I told them that I was no longer interested in the vehicle and to please stop calling. The sales manager called me the next day and I couldn't stop laughing and I hung up the phone.
I went to another dealership and purchased the exact same vehicle for the same price and they delivered it three days later with a huge bow on the roof.

I went in there with my check written out and I was ready to drive off into the sunset when the sales guy tells me that something was going to cost $50 more. I said that we had a deal already and when he didn't back down, I put my check in front of him and proceeded to tear it in half and walked out of the showroom and left. Two days later they called me and said they would do the deal without the $50. It wasn't the $50 dollars, it was that they thought I wouldn't walk away. Don't trifle with me. I have to ask, is one of the tactics to ignore customers? When I got out of the military I decided to trade in my 3 year old loaded Tacoma for a compact. I preferred the Honda Civic but was going to save myself 2 grand for the lesser Toyota Corolla. Drove to the Roseville automall in Roseville CA. I was on the Toyota lot for nearly 45 minutes. I walked the entire lot twice. I was one of maybe 3 customers there on that day. About 100 degrees so didnt really want to be out and about like that. Physically walked past about 5 salesmen and saw at least 5 others and not a single one acknowledged my existence.
Finally said fuck it drove a few lots down to the Honda dealer. Was immediately approached by two sales people as I would expect. Told them what happened and that apparently Toyota wasn't interested in selling cars. Asked if they were. Was out of there a couple hours later with a new Civic. Spent a bit more but got a better car. Have had that car since 2007. Still cringe thinking about that toyota dealer.

They are giant shit boxes. they blow lifters which then smokes the camshaft, valve springs snap, push rods bend and fuel injectors shit the bed and get stuck in the head. The 8speed transmission is a major issue. Torque converters need to be replaced, valve bodies take a dump and early issues lead to needing a transmission replacement. thats the Yukon.... 2. The 2020 Sierra 2500hd is also having some issues. The rear glass is leaking when it rains, ruining the headliner, seats and carpet. Get a lightly used 17-18 gmc 2500hd, you will be a lot happier and they have no issues. This dealer also seems like a dump. Call GM corporate and talk to them, they usually help customers out. Not taking their side but the factory Bridgestone tires that go on these 22s are about 1400 to have all four replaced

We test drove a few and she settled on a Colorado. I was advising her while negotiating the deal and I could tell it annoyed the salesman and when he was out of the room she decided she wanted to go ahead and accept the terms. Then when he came back in the room, before she could say a word the guy started yelling and screaming about how I must be the one in charge and she can't make any decisions for herself. I guess he thought that would somehow goad her but all it did was piss us both off and so we got up and walked out. Whenever having to deal with dealerships, always go in on the offense, prepared for battle; guns, missiles and bombs armed. Never trust their word.
You did the right thing, Mover, telling 'em to shove it.
I noticed that they didn't apologize for not having the running boards on when you got there... just gave you excuses. To not have a vehicle READY TO GO by the time you arrive is inexcusable, and that sales rep should be fired.

I remember Luke Golden @ Chris Meyers Buick and had similar results. They made the original deal with you over the phone so they could improve their end of the month sales quota. You were a cash buyer with an excellent trade in which they don't like. They prefer customers to use GM Finance for their purchases or better yet lease. He knew you were from out of town so they went into stall mode hoping you'd pay more for the vehicle just to get it over with. The bad tire ploy is as old as the hills and obviously still works on some customers. Probably older folks and people with bad credit. If Luke Golden made those idle threats I'd pass that along to Alabama's Attorney General Steve Marshall and of course customer service at GM.

Dealerships are making their real money on selling you financing these days. Cash buys are looked down on these days. You have to get the price of the both vehicles (trade and new) squared away as if you planned to finance it and once you have that price tell them you'd rather pay cash.

My son's were 5 and 7. Dressed them up in cowboy outfits including 6 shooters. I was buying a new mercedes. The dealer started the slow roll on me. The boys got cut loose. I remember the 5 year old climbing on the hood of a 500SL the other kid was jumping up and down in the seat. The deal got moving right now. I was so proud...

So true. Now that my kids are getting older I’m losing my secret weapon for getting in and out quickly. Most dealerships are NOT designed for kids and they will bore/get hungry quickly so it’s a great foil to the usual “let me go back and talk to the manager” BS. Prepare the kid ahead of time and schedule a thing to do like a movie that you MUST get to later in the evening. Also have your wife/SO on the phone to play “bad cop” and pretend to throw out budget concerns, and then have them text you similar nearby deals for comps to throw the salesman off. Finally, call another dealership yourself ahead of time and ask them to call you back about a similar vehicle, then make your salesman wait on YOU while you discuss another offer. If you have time. It’s fun.)
