I love that little rig you’ve set up to deter seed stealers. Simple and inexpensive. Given me a great idea for my own renovation...thanks for the videos
Hi, thanks for your interest in the video! Yes it was just several lengths of string stretched across the lawn with silver foil trays attached to reflect the light and deter the birds. We still had a few (as you can see on the video) but they only ate a tiny proportion of the seed (I also seeded at 70g per m2 rather than the recommended 50g per m2 to compensate for any lost to the pigeons)
Currently waiting for my lawn to grow, its germinated now, watching this video keeps me going and helps me resist the urge to turf it. Patience is key so I'm told!
Yes just be patient and it will come. Make sure to keep it constantly moist in the early days. I watered twice a day for the first couple of weeks (when there was no rain), then daily for the next few weeks after that
@@chriscooke2678 I didn't put any fertiliser down before I seeded, although I rotavated the whole thing by hand, twice, and added compost. How long should I wait before I feed it? Tia
If you didn’t apply a pre-seeding fertiliser it’s probably best to wait at least 6 to 8 weeks now when the lawn is fully established and you’ve mowed it at least 4 times
On day 13 and mine is starting to come up sporadically (hydroseed on top of 1-3 inches of fresh loam). I know for me (live in the northeast of the US). The weather has been cold. From what my hydroseed guy told me, low ground temps delay germination. We have barely gone over 60 degrees F in the pat 2 weeks with no rain ad a bunch of wind. Or at least this is what I tell myself to fall asleep...LOL. Did yours pop yet?
The first two weeks grass seeds use its own energy/power supply; the seed itself. Humidity is needed to initiate grow process. Keep seeds wet in these first two weeks, as only then they can evolve.
Well that’s looks a lot better than what is currently happening in my front garden. Recently removed the pebbles and under sheet to find the soil was thick with stones. Removed loads but as it rains more get uncovered and we’ve had loads of April frosts which are really slowing growth down. I think it’ll need re seeding it’s very patchy 😆
We must live in the same area. Ugh. The grass is growing quickly but it's sparse. Nightmare soil, rocky, sandy, mountain garbage. Some areas have coal ash that was dumped in the late 19th century considering I find Civil War marbles, glass buttons, hand made nails, old glass bottles, shards of glass. You name it it's there. If I didn't know better and I don't want to, might be a burial cairn too. I'm sure I am mistaken. Lol. I guess I'll be reseeding too. My lawn certainly doesn't look like that in that time span. Sowing a bit extra also helped to offset any seed lost to hungry pigeons! 😁
Yes it was a very hot summer (for the UK) back in June 2018 was regularly getting up to near 30°C nearly every day, although it did take a hell of a lot of water from the sprinklers to keep it from drying out! Helped it to grow much quicker than i ever expected

@Shaun's Lawn - It's all in my blog at thecluelessgardener.co.uk
I’m putting together a prep video covering the process from start to finish but might be a while yet before it's ready. I'll upload it to my channel as soon as it's done if you want to subscribe so you get notified!
Why wont my grass grow?
Victa vintage mowers sfmkm.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_38.html
Use whiskey instead of water. 10 times faster growth
At 1:38 there is a fox
Yes think there are one or two throughout the video you can spot them if you look closely
I've just over seeded my lawn. Can't see any watering in the time lapse. How often do you water please?
Haha you can't see any watering lol there's a sprinkler in the middle of the grass
Jeff Wilson just keep the seed moist, stop watering if seed is running off or puddles are forming
We were going through a heatwave when I sowed the seed so I was having to water quite frequently - Twice a day for the first week or so until all the seed had germinated, to make sure the ground never dried out. After that I moved to watering to once a day for the next couple of weeks, then every other day, gradually getting less as the lawn was well established and had had been mown a few times
Watching grass grow is a saying for something really boring... And here's a video about grass growing 🙈🙈
Isn’t it watching paint dry?
@@chriscooke2678 there's more then one saying 👍👍

Chris Cooke it’s so he can read replys
I see you have them ringdoves also!
did that plastic bottle kind off things work for the birds?? those cuties stole half of my seeds >:(
I never had any problem with birds with seeds and lower plants like strawberries and blueberries. I have two dogs constantly patrolling in my garden.
Those bloody pigeons keep eating the seed!
Where and when?
Staffordshire, England. June 2018
what kind of camera did you use for this ?
1:03 there was an animal? Fox? Coyote?
Looked like a fox
Garden gnome.
Did you use fertilizer? What kind?
I used Growmore fertiliser (amzn.to/2PrpOEG) which has an NPK of 7-7-7. I spread it 2 days before sowing the seed and acheived great results (although the general advice is to do it a week before)
What grass seed and fertiliser did you use
The seed is called ‘Superstar Back Lawn’ from The Grass People. I researched a lot before purchasing and found it to give the most hard-wearing, lush and green lawn. You can buy it from Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01FFX21DA/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B01FFX21DA&linkCode=as2&tag=thecluelessga-21&linkId=a37002d0576fb3c24909c197a50ab379). I purchased the 20kg bag to do around 210 square metres, as I sowed it at 70g per M2 rather than the recommended 50g per M2, which helped to produce a thicker lawn quicker. I used growmore fertiliser a few days before sowing the seed
@@chriscooke2678 I'd second that 'super star back lawn' I used that to fill a 20m2 moss patch I sorted out in my lawn, come through real nice 👍🏻
@@shaunlucas3810 Yes was really impressed with it
What type of grass is this?
Green
Between Bermuda or Kikuyu. I'm also trying to figure it out
@@michaelyoung6986 bermuda in 8 days 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How long before moles and ant hills...
We don't get moles in the UK and although we do have ants, I've never seen an ant hill before
@@chriscooke2678 True that on the continent we have both moles and voles, who do the same hills as moles, except a tad smaller.
And some years I get anthills on the lawn if I don't mow every few days. Anthills can grow a few dozens centimeters high if I don't mow for a season ! That's on the country side, with fallows, woods and fields around...
What kind of grass is that?
I wanna buy the seed

Sowing a bit extra also helped to offset any seed lost to hungry pigeons! 😁
Cool!
I literally just sat here and watched grass grow.
