      Hi, thanks for your interest in the video! Yes it was just several lengths of string stretched across the lawn with silver foil trays attached to reflect the light and deter the birds. We still had a few (as you can see on the video) but they only ate a tiny proportion of the seed (I also seeded at 70g per m2 rather than the recommended 50g per m2 to compensate for any lost to the pigeons)

From what my hydroseed guy told me, low ground temps delay germination. We have barely gone over 60 degrees F in the pat 2 weeks with no rain ad a bunch of wind. Or at least this is what I tell myself to fall asleep...LOL. Did yours pop yet?

      The first two weeks grass seeds use its own energy/power supply; the seed itself. Humidity is needed to initiate grow process. Keep seeds wet in these first two weeks, as only then they can evolve.

      We must live in the same area. Ugh. The grass is growing quickly but it's sparse. Nightmare soil, rocky, sandy, mountain garbage. Some areas have coal ash that was dumped in the late 19th century considering I find Civil War marbles, glass buttons, hand made nails, old glass bottles, shards of glass. You name it it's there. If I didn't know better and I don't want to, might be a burial cairn too. I'm sure I am mistaken. Lol. I guess I'll be reseeding too. My lawn certainly doesn't look like that in that time span. For all those wondering what seed I used it’s called ‘Superstar Back Lawn’ from The Grass People. I researched a lot before purchasing and found it to give the most hard-wearing, lush and green lawn. You can buy it from Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01FFX21DA/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B01FFX21DA&linkCode=as2&tag=thecluelessga-21&linkId=a37002d0576fb3c24909c197a50ab379). I purchased the 20kg bag to do around 210 square metres, as I sowed it at 70g per M2 rather than the recommended 50g per M2, which helped to produce a thicker lawn quicker (when used with some growmore fertiliser a few days before sowing the seed). Sowing a bit extra also helped to offset any seed lost to hungry pigeons! 😁

      I sowed some seeds today, and I followed some advice from my grandmother. Over sow when you plant. Her philosophy is " 1 for the wind, 1 for the birds, and 1 for the soil". Maybe the birds got most of your seeds... Maybe you planted the wrong varieties, in the wrong areas. The ones I panted are for shaded areas, and full sun. Another factor could be that the stuff you used with the seeds, might have been too harsh for the seeds, and burnt them. I just put down some organic compost. Hopefully mine grows. PS, ignore the other person that had a negative comment

    30 tonne of extra top soil ( how much £ lol ) when did your seeds go down, I did a few area's around my garden where they were once a raised flower beds, seeded on 2nd march ( which i knew was early but hey ho :-) they started to germinate on 19th march and today 9th April, although not really thick, its getting there now the temps have gone up. I have 360m2 front lawn, and with some big oak trees and hedges, you can imagine the moss I have been getting. I scarified it late last fall ( maybe to much ) and it never really recovered because although I reseeded, it was getting very close to winter. I'd love to take it all up but i'll see what come of it this summer before doing an overseed in the fall again. Be happy if it looked half as good as yours. how much water did you put out twice a day after seeding ? sometimes I think i'm over watering

Sounds like you've got your work cut out with your front lawn. Mine's about 210 sq metres and that took long enough! Today we dug the whole lot over digging more of the top-soil into the clay and then we put sand down with manure, tomato compost as we had a load spare and then bone and fish blood food. Then dug that all over and mixed it and then levelled it. Then put the sived top-soil (previously treated with seaweed food) back on top and then re-seeded with a good quality Rye Grass which generally gets exceptional reviews. This time with it being mid Sept this should be the optimal time for it to grow. Oh yeah we raked it in a bit and watered it. I used a combination of two sprinklers due to the size and shape of the lawn. I used a Hozelock Round Sprinkler Pro 314m² (amzn.to/2UIHv7L) for the main part of the lawn (which I found to cover the largest area, despite being the cheaper of the two) and a Costwise oscillating sprinkler (amzn.to/2uTZOZ9), which covers a rectangular area, to cover the remaining part of the lawn that the round one couldn’t reach

      We were going through a heatwave when I sowed the seed so I was having to water quite frequently - Twice a day for the first week or so until all the seed had germinated, to make sure the ground never dried out. After that I moved to watering to once a day for the next couple of weeks, then every other day, gradually getting less as the lawn was well established and had had been mown a few times

    What grass seed and fertiliser did you use

    • @chriscooke2678
      @chriscooke2678  4 года назад +3

      The seed is called ‘Superstar Back Lawn’ from The Grass People. I purchased the 20kg bag to do around 210 square metres, as I sowed it at 70g per M2 rather than the recommended 50g per M2, which helped to produce a thicker lawn quicker. I used growmore fertiliser a few days before sowing the seed

Sowing a bit extra also helped to offset any seed lost to hungry pigeons! 😁
