  • In this video, I want to emphasize the importance of being both a better irrigation installer and a better sprinkler system repairman. Getting good at both will help you be better at the other. Here, I demonstrate how an improperly installed sprinkler head can cause problems to near by objects like this pole, cause poorly water grass areas and potential problems like this bent riser. I explain how to fix these issues using a pre-fab swing joint or fittings and swing pipe. Throughout the video, I walk you through the step-by-step process of removing the old sprinkler head, screwing in the new one, and adjusting the angle to ensure proper coverage. As someone who has learned from past mistakes, I value the importance of avoiding them in the future. Whether you're a professional installer or a DIY homeowner, I hope this video offers helpful tips and insights for maintaining an efficient irrigation system.

Love your videos! Was wondering if you’d ever do a video on the earning potential in the irrigation industry and how lucrative it can be? Would love to go solo or have business one day just in irrigation. Don’t see anyone else talk about business side on RUclips.

This is the million dollar question.... there are to many variables in my opinion to shoot a price this way, for instance, is it a drip zone, if so what spacing on the emitters? Pop up spray, MP Rotator or Rotor zone? What is the head spacing, 6,8,10,12,15,17,30,35?Do you have good static pressure and components to achieve your required design pressure? Do you need a booster pump? Is it municipal water or is a lake pump system? WiFi or standard controller? Inside or outside controller install? Schedule pipe or Class 200? Trencher accessible or hand dig? Is it over a cross contamination zone? Will it need a permit or city inspection? Are you trying to keep your crews busy during a slow time or are you swamped with work in a market that demand is high? Are you well known in the area and have a solid reputation or are you starting out new and trying to establish your company? In my opinion, your best practice is to take into consideration the materials and scope of work as well as the ability and rate of speed your crews can install at, factor your overhead and then learn your market through the bidding process. Unfortunately not all contractors factor “real” job costs or proper overhead so you are usually blindfolded throwing darts at the wall and hoping it sticks at first, but stick to your guns, know your numbers, bid fair and bid often and you will know the answer to your question. I hate and love that this is the case but it is and might always be a moving target due to the inconsistencies in the industry, this is the beauty of free a market and is what makes it both fun and frustrating at the same time. Just because one contractor bids a certain price does not mean you can bid the same or a little lower or higher and make money on the job, you have to know what your numbers are or you are rolling the dice. Maybe there truck is payed off and you have a brand new F250 with a nice monthly payment or maybe there crew is faster than your crews. Maybe they used some stored up reward points they had saved to use as a tool to be more competitive than the competition. I hope you see were this is going. While it is not impossible to give an approximate price for said services it does not really mean anything unless you know the supporting information mentioned above.
