Thank you sir for this fine explanation of the RainBird 5000. I'm near 80 and have been putting off tackling repairs on my 16 - Zone system for a few years, but I'm doing it right now. My system has a mishmosh of RainBird, Hunter and Orbit heads several not working correctly. I am replacing all with RainBird heads......with great help from your video, I got 5 done today. I only have about 20 more to go.

Good info. My local sprinkler supplier doesn't carry Rainbird, they carry Hunter. The newer Hunter gear driven have a very similar spray adjustment and nozzle set up. Nothing needs to be disassembled to adjust anything. I really like the gear driven as they are very quiet and smooth. The downside to them is the potential for debris in the system which can cause sprinkler failure. They do not build them to disassemble and flush crap out. I think the Rainbird is less susceptible to failure by junk in the irrigation system.
I agree I prefer Hunter products I like the heads a lot more compared to rain bird
That white gasket together with a totally sealed body is the foolproof part. Rainbird heads are available direct, as I ordered this one, so as yours deteriorate, its a simple matter of swapping them one by one.
My 44 Model 5000+SAM heads have been running flawlessly without adjustment twice a day for six seasons, and have recharged and popped back to life after five very deep frozen New Hampshire winters. The "raincurtain" nozzles project exactly the same water throughout the length of the stream, whether five inches or 32 feet away. Even after being struck by my 3-point hitch rototiller, that head continued to pop up like clockwork, rotate, spray, and function perfectly, though the top and nozzle were gone. That's quite impressive ruggedness in my book.
I installed a drip irrigation system this year for the garden. It's something I should have did 20 years ago. Rainbird instructions were clear and concise.
Perfect review. I noticed two of my sprinkler heads need to be readjusted as the neighbour expanded his driveway. I seem to be washing his cars.

I have to constantly replace those sprinkler heads. Apparently all of the family members who mow the yard cannot figure out where the they are located. I’m now what you call a professional. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Great video, I have been trying to figure out if there were two different heads(360-180) and now I know. My sprinkler guy installed the wrong head(and I won't be able to adjust it from 360 to 180) it waters my lawn just great. The only problem is that it also waters the neighbors house.

Any advice on how to deal with rotors that have settled? The rubber topmost is at / a hair below ground. It does come up fine.
Someone said unscrew can, add an extension to funny pipe, put dirt around that and screw can back on. Rather than dig whole area and lift can / assembly. Disturbing dirt will cause same problem - settling- again.

Captain, your right about the Hunter sealed unit, I'm a mechanic, machinist and a cheap yankee. It bothers me I can't repair them. A friend of mine is in the business and just gives me new heads but I find that wasteful.

How do I adjust the left stop back to the right a bit if I’ve gone too far left?
I have the same question! I suppose you just keep turning counterclockwise until you come around to the point you want it to be. So, basically, you would turn it left almost 360 degrees.
I suppose it goes without saying but I can only assume that you have to turn the water main off before you replace, yes? If so, do you have to bleed the lines before you start it back up? Thx.
How do you reset your left stop if it’s going too far to the left? Do you, with the water turned off, manually turn it all the way right and then turn it left to the spot you want it to stop? Does that change the left stop? Thanks.
Sorry, chatting about firearms is not the subject of this particular video but...it's Mr. Gunblue490's latest. Ya know, the problem I have is...if you take down the Browning A5 12 gauge...there's a basic way you can take it down to do a basic cleaning. If you wanted something more in-depth, you'd more than likely send it to a service center or to a gunsmith you trust. My problem with the Browning BAR that I mentioned below...during my take down, there was no basic, easy way...once I was into it...I was into it and it got pretty complicated (I still don't understand why the bolt wouldn't slide forward easily during reinstall - I fired the gun and it worked fine). So, for the BAR...for any kind of cleaning (until I learn more)...I guess I'll have to send it to the service center. This time around, I expect it's going to cost me approximately $500.

That looks like the same head Hunter uses. Only problem I've had is they stop turning. I have installed a filter to keep grit out of the heads.
That sealed system to prevent the intrusion of dirt resulting in breakdown is one of the reasons I chose Rainbird, among others.
Mr. Gunblue490...would it be possible for you to do a video on how to disassemble, clean and reasonable a Browning BAR? Especially a Browning BAR .243...Portuguese assembled...the version where you have to twist the bolt to get it back in. I field stripped mine and was unable to reassemble it. It’s now being sent to a Browning service center - Midwest Gun Works in Pevely, MO. Heck...I’d even mail my gun to you to make the video...lol! I just really want to know. There’s a couple videos...1 shows how to take it down and the other does not address the Portuguese version where you have to twist the bolt. I understand if you’re not interested but...thanks in advance. Absolutely LOVE your videos...all of them!
I'd love to do one. Unfortunately, I don't have one to demonstrate with. Yours is made in what is probably the most modern and I believe the largest firearms facility in the world, made by highly skilled gun makers. Portugal was making guns before Columbus landed and their craftsmen are second to none. My wife and I drove around Portugal two years ago and were very impressed by their fantastic highway system and the folks we met (most spoke English, which is more than I can say). You can rest assured that any innovation in Browning design is absolutely an improvement in quality. If I can get one to do such a video, I certainly will.

There are a lot of different videos specifically on how to adjust the L stop with remarkably different information. I am thinking this is due to the slip clutch is not on older heads. Is this true?
Not that I'm aware. The adjustment is as simple as I demonstrated. Our system is five years old, and the heads all work exactly the same, and have identical construction. I've seen some of those other videos and I think they simply don't know how they work.
If my Rain bird rotator quit rotating, can it be fixed?
No, it's a sealed unit. Cheap enough to replace.
Do you have a rain sensor on your system??
Yes, it's wireless and shuts off if rainfall exceeds my pre-set, and also if the temperature descends below my pre-set. The rain collector and temperature sensor unit is mounted on my barn and the control pad is mounted beside the main panel. Great system.

Use a ratchet wood clamp to hold spring portion of rainbird to replace nozzle.
I prefer the Hunter i20 sprinkler heads I like the nozzle system and the head it’s self is definitely more robust compared to the rain bird brand
I measure robust by the service a product gives over time. I've got 44 Rainbird heads that--with the single exception of the head I rototilled (even then, it continued to work flawlessly without a nozzle)--have been working perfectly for six seasons without readjustment, and have enthusiastically popped back to life after sustaining five deep New Hampshire winters, and they're sure to continue for many more. Robust is as robust does.

Rainbird is the gold standard for irrigation products. There are many other brands that are just as good.....but nothing is better.

Thanks for the great video. I currently have Rain Bird Maxi Paw impact sprinklers and have problems with sand and crud getting inside. Every year I replace the internals on 4-7 heads. I'm considering changing them out and installing the Rain Bird 5000 rotors. Any thoughts? Since the rotors have a shorter height, would you recommend using cut-off riser extensions or swing pipe elbows and a short length of funny pipe.
