I had this version of the game as a kid. Even this Game and Watch had a thick instruction manual with artwork that contextualized the in-game artwork. It’s a shame that no one does this sort of thing anymore. Great Stuff, I really enjoyed your series!
Things sure have changed. It's so sad to open up a modern game and not even get a manual inside of the case. I'm glad you were able to experience this one back in the day. Thank you so much for checking out the series, I'm really happy that you enjoyed it :)
Love the Crystal Screen games. Climber is the only one I have, but it’s my favorite in the whole series. The Crystal Screen design is easily the most futuristic thing ever to come out of the 80’s. Smartphones need to catch up!
I really need to get my hands on Climber. I've heard great things about it! And the Crystal Screen design is super cool, and reminds me of holding a phone horizontally. As we've seen in the past, Nintendo seems to like taking inspiration from Game & Watches and incorporating them into their new consoles. Maybe Nintendo's next gen console will have a Crystal Screen? Regardless, thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you've been enjoying my videos. :)
I just found out about the Crystal series G&Ws yesterday and went looking for a video. This is really awesome looking and I liked how you were doing the backgrounds. Thanks for showing this off!
Love it! Anything-everything Mario. This definitely made my day. Thanks for a great review. The castle background is based off of SMB3 SMAS, the underwater is SMB3 background and the hilly background goes back to SMB3 1-2. The theme here is SMAS (Super Mario All Stars - Super Mario 3 in particular).
I'm really happy that you liked the video! Thank you so much for following along with the series, and great job identifying those backgrounds! I really love the graphical improvements that All-Stars made to the NES games. Take care. :)
This has been a very nice journey through Nintendo's storied Game & Watch library. The Crystal Screen Editions are quite nice-looking and certainly a novel addition to anyone's collection.
i need some help.i remember a friend of mine back in the day when i was about 10 or 11 (so anytime before '91/'92) bought a handheld in to school. now he was the kid that always bought handhelds and we'd all stand in a circle together huddled over them taking turns. they were your typical LCD displays, big clunky things where you basically dodged stuff. and then one day he bought in a sleek thin red and brushed aluminium/steel looking thing. it was gorgeous, and whilst it was thinner than the thick clunky ones, it felt solid. as opposed to light as a feather like it looked. the game was a mario game, and it had scrolling levels. the levels where like the floating levels from the console where the level auto scrolls and you have to jump on the platforms. the platforms resembled the donut looking ones from the snes that fall when you stand on them, but here they were black instead of the colour they are on the console. I swear i remember being able to move around the level just like on the console. as in jumping to the right of the screen to stay away from the left side that was scrolling along. ive never seen one since, or online. this is about as close as i've seen, but the gameplay here isnt like what i saw. this is typical game n watch style, whereas this red n silver thin thing was ore like the gameplay you'd get on a gameboy smooth. my friends parents were native chinese, so for all i know it could have been an asian exclusive. but it was the most amazing thing i ever saw back then. he only bought it in once, and only showed it to me and one other friend, and after that, his mum wouldnt let him bring it back in cuz apparently it was expensive. but damn this thing was gorgeous. and way ahead of its time. for all i know it could have been some sort of superior tech bootleg? idk, im just clutching at straws. all i know is it was real, and i have been trying to find out what it was ever since i got the internet 20 years ago. lol. so if anyone knows what it is, pleeeeease go to my channel to find my twitter or facebook, and leave me a message on one of those instead of here, just cuz i always miss messages on here, but never on those. i have to know what this thing was and see it in action again. it was a thing of beauty and looked way ahead of its time.
Great idea to have a different background each level! Did you know the trailing edges of the fire bars can’t hurt you? You can even use them as platforms when they’re in the 3 o’clock position! I love the weird quirks like this that Game & Watch games have.
Thank you for watching! And I didn't know that about the fire bars. There's so much going on in this game that I feel like I'm always learning something new. That's really cool! Thanks again, and take care! :)
Game & Watch is a strange thing to have to make plural. Game & Watches is what I usually go with, but who knows, haha. Thank you so much for watching the series! :)
Thank you for following the series! Good luck getting your hands on the Game & Watch tomorrow. Also, keep an eye out on Monday for a certain video you've been waiting for! :)
Great way to the end this fun series. I was definitely not aware of this one at all. Very cool idea and fun how you can mix up the backgrounds. Looking forward to whatever you do next.
Thank you so much for watching the series through! I thought it was appropriate to end with this Game & Watch due to just how cool it is, and because a Mario game leads well into tomorrow's release.
I wonder if they’ll become available for sale online at midnight (not pre-sales but rather a finished deal)? And if so, do some timezones get theirs first.
I got my copy of Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch from Best Buy website last night after midnight! Woohoo! I got one of the last ones at the time. By the time I checked out the others were gone. I paid retail price of $49.99. Edit: I’m not opening it. It’s staying sealed. Especially since this is the first print run with the clock error.
Finishing off with one of the colest Game & Watches ever! Was actually a bit surprised that we didn't get to see any tabletops this month, but anyway, i'm so glad that i watched every single video from start to finish, it was the coolest to get such high quality videos on these devices, i'm going to get my first job soon, and, when i start working at the end of this month, i'm definitely going to save money to hopefully someday get at least some of the ones i'm most interested in, even if that takes a long time seeing how the majority of these can be pricy, but, ah, these little devices fascinate me so much, they gave a huuuuuge kickstart to handhelds consoles in general, i wonder how they were made actually, anyway, thanks for an amazing 30 days of incredible, interesting, entertaining and very informative videos!
Thank you so much for watching the series all of the way through! I really happy to hear that you enjoyed it. I unfortunately don't own any of the tabletop games, or else we definitely would have looked at one. Most of what I'm missing is tabletop and panorama models, I've done a pretty good job collecting Widescreen and multi screen models! Good luck doing your own Game & Watch collecting, and have fun! :)
