Watched this video and your video on installing the amp/sub, couldn't have successfully done everything myself without you! Thanks man! Cheers
this is exactly what i was looking for! thanks a ton!. so well explained and simple. you're the best!!
Thanks for the video. I was able to install the same stereo into a 2002 civic lx using most of what you posted here. To others trying this, a commenter below gave a good piece of advice on installing the mic- route the cable through the glove box instead of through the driver side. Much easier to access and you don't run the risk of tangling with pedals.
+CraigMammalton Thanks. The mic wire was run completely under the carpet, not around the pedals.
Thanks man this helped so much, I went to my local sound store and picked up the same harness and bracket as you and it was easy as plug and play!
Exactly the video I needed. THANK YOU!!
Was just trying to figure out how to get the paneling off so i can check and see if my cigarette lighter was connected and this helped i fixed it thanks a lot
very useful content and very good video, you give attention to every detail and you did like a professional.
thanks a lot and keep going
Great video, simple and straight to the point. New sub!
Thanks for the video. Saved me from guessing how the panels come off.
Thanks for the video. Just installed the same exact one. Installation was a breeze.
This is the first video ive watch out of a dozen. Where you said anything about the antenna needing power.
The power antenna wire in the wiring harness adapter (blue) may or may not need power. It is easiest just to tie that into either the red ignition wire or the blue white wire on the radio. All depends on your year civic.
About to install a stereo for the first time. Thanks for posting a very informative video.
I dropped a green zanax in my console so now I am here

great video! I would have broken the dash for sure if I didn't know about the 2 8mm security bolts above the cup holder
Just a note. I've seen a 2002 civic video where it is possible to remove the power socket section without removing the shift knob trim in order to access the anchor 8mm bolts. THIS IS NOT possible on the 2003. THIS video is the easiest way to get the job done on the 03. Thank you Provo beast
My 2005 was like that!
Thank you so much. I've got a 2003, and the videos on here have been super intimidating OR suspiciously easy.
Nope my '03 comes right out no need to remove the shift knob trim piece
Thank you for the video. It helped me out big time for my new radio.
very informative video, well done mate!
Great walk-through. Thanks much :)
thank you so much for this video! I save at least 100$ by installing it myself!
Thanks for amazing tutorial, worked perfectly.
Be sure to subscribe! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I only broke one clip because someone before me glued it back together
This is a very detailed and wonderful video. Considering buying a civic so this would be a perfect project to work on.
Great video, helped me a lot with mine !
I have an 03. I left my lights on, battery died, and jumped the car...but now the radio (after factory-replaced by previous owner) doesn't work. It worked just fine before the battery died. I checked the fuses and they are fine. Any idea what went wrong and how to fix it? -update...i disconnected the battery and reconnected it and the radio works again! Simple reset did the trick :)
I have that same head unit i loooove it.
love how your doing it at night with a light haha!
I'm not sure what year your car is but I have a 2001 honda civic dx manual.. And for my year you just have to pop out the cigarette lighter panel and that gives you access to the 2 8mm phillips screw bolts. Then pop the 9 clips around the factory bezel.
Good work. My brother love it. Blessed be the most high God name.
Thanks, What’s the easiest and cheapest way to be able to play my music directly from my USB key in a 2004 Civic car radio? Do they sell dacs? Some recommend to install a used radio that has a built in USB input.
Is necessary to connect the blue antenna wire to the red wire? My pioneer radio doesn't come with the blue wire.
Thank you bro
Imma bout to get 2002 civic lx coupe by monday its manual, just some advice what to know when buying it? it has 95k on mile age and 195k on chasis. should I use obd 2 to check it?
My grounding wire came loose inside the driver side (2001 Honda Civic) area and I wonder where it is supposed to anchor. Thanks in advance
hi i have a question, I bought a double din aftermarket stereo and I don't think it will fit my aftermarket double din dash kit so what do i do please help.
On my 01 Honda Civic I don’t have the blue male connector harness. When I took the stock stereo out, everything was hooked from just wires and I bought a new stereo but the colors don’t match. What should I do where can I buy a male plug for2001 Honda Civic lx?
can i use the original dash kit? i like honda’s factory CD compartment
ur a beast bro thanks
Would the pioneer harnest work on an jvc headunit
Would illumination work properly if you wire the orange (illumination) to orange and white (also illumination) wires together between the car adapter and radio harness, respectively, on a 2003 Civic and Sony MEX-GS810BH? Does it matter they're different colors?
If your harness doesn't support a orange and white wire, then yes, that should be just fine.
Hi I brought the civic 2001 1.6 my parter changed the radio and all work fine but I got the problem with starting the engine it won't start first time and the green key light it's not on the board and this all happend after changing the radio do you know what might happend or what to do woth it aswell when I use to leave mi lights on and took the key out the car will Make A noise to turn them off it doesn't do that now please if you could give me advice what to do
Hi can you tell me why after I put a JVC new stereo it won’t turn on thank you in advance..
hey great video just a question if i buy a dash kit does it come with a wire harness
90% of the time, no, unless you buy it as a bundle online.
Thanks for the video, however the unit still cuts out when I drive over bumps no matter how big. Do you have any recommendations for better stability in the dash? I think it could be a wiring issue as well.
Sounds like you have shorts in the dash. Double check all connections as this will fix the cutting out issue.
hey great video just a question i have a 2003 acura el 4 door when i install the new stereo do i need a serial number or a code cuz my car has a anti theft system
No the code is just for the factory radio.
can you use any bluetooth radio to do it?
Can you keep the original bottom compartment
does this fit 2004 honda accord ex
No shrink tubing?
The wire that you're holding at 10:43, does it have to be connected? the aftermarket stereo i have doesn't have a port for that wire.
thanks
That is the antenna wire, for AM / FM. Not necessary, you just won't receive a radio signal.
hey I have a question so my question is I have an aftermarket stereo in my car and well I want to replace it with another aftermarket stereo so will i need to buy another wiring harness or i could use the one in already
It all depends on how your current aftermarket radio is installed. I can't answer that question until you pull the current radio out to see if it was wired correctly and if any of the current parts are reusable.
if I already have a after market stereo do I still have to take everything apart to replace it with a newer one??
Depends on how they installed the previous stereo in your civic. Give it a shot
Would be the same with an 04 civic hybrid?
Or are there certain hybrid components that would alter the process?
Yep, should be just the same.
Can you adjust the shade of blue of the Pioneer head unit to match the blue of the dash lights inside the 04 Civic?
Nope, it's fixed from the manufacture.
do you have the link to buy everything include the radio and the tool you use in the video ? thanks
+Thang Bui I do not, links always change. See the description for all the parts used in the video, then search those parts in amazon. The tools i used are crimpers, wire strippers, phillips screw driver, panel removal tools, 10mm socket wrench, butt connectors. That should be all you need.
haven’t heard a cd coins in forever
Will the JVC KDR-330fit in this kit?
Sure will!
Had my stereo stolen last week so I ordered a replacement. The thief left that metal frame on the factory radio in the car, do I have to remove that before putting the new one in? Also, where do I attach the ground wire to?
I would guess yeah
Hi when installing the new radio .... Did you need a antenna adapter if yea what kind did you use
The description has all the details, no, there is no antenna adapter required.
Thank you very much
did this successfully the only problem i got is a whining noise from the speakers whenever i rev the car. any possible solution?
Sounds like a bad ground. Be sure to clean paint off and fix your grounding point.
Is the dash kit necessary? The pioneer deck seems like it'd fit in the standard deck slot.
It would, but it would leave gaps between the dash bezel and radio. If you don't mind the gaps, you can use the factory slot without the kit.
I have a 2003, the guy i bought it from had removed the factory harness so now i have to crimp each separate wire and have had no luck finding an actual wire colour code/diagram that isnt misleading. wondering if you could help with that, thanks
Hopefully this helps! www.modifiedlife.com/car-stereo-radio-wiring-diagram-2003-honda-civic/
so do I need the mic to hook up my phone to Bluetooth I'm thinking of buying so I don't need a aux cord had dealing with the wiring
If you want the other party on the line to hear you, you will need a mic. But to stream music, it is not needed.
So all my wires are connected correctly. Amp is fine. Bass speaker good, however, now everything plays through the bass speaker. None of the car speakers work. Uhm so what happened? I have a 2005 honda civic. Help. Pppllleeaassee
Do I have to buy a second dash bezel or can I just put the radio in the old one
You can pull the radio in the old one, but it will leave gaps around the radio since they are not identical sizes.
Would you do a video on how to change the rear speakers ?
I don't at this time. Sorry! Its not hard, just have to pop off the rear plastic deck lid to expose the speakers.
Ok thanks for responding so quick. I'm sure I can do it then.
"just pop off the rear deck". If only it was that easy. You have to fold the back seat down, then remove the side bolsters, then the c pillar trim, THEN you can remove the rear deck cover.
would this work the same if I'm installing the kenwood KDC-BT362U?
+talya cristofoli Yes, being also a single din, it would be identical for the install.
Hey I just have a question. I just bought a 2004 Honda Civic Si and there is already an aftermarket deck in there but I want to put my kenwood deck in there. Is it safe to assume that those safety 8mm bolts are removed and I can just pry the dash out without removing screws?
Generally yes, but be careful, just make sure they are not in there to reduce the risk of cracking the dash bezel.
hey, I am hoping for some help here. I accidentally disconnected the wiring harness that was connected to factory wiring..i wasn't thinking and was in a rush. I need to know exactly which wire connects where..since the owner before me had after market harness installed, the wires are not color codded anymore. I have looked up diagrams, but somehow all of em have one or two colors wrong. Two of the fuses for "acc radio" have blown. I would really appreciate some help if possible, i suck with wiring.
Locate the ACC radio fuses and replace them, located possible both in the cabin of the civic as well as under the hood. Secondly, online wiring diagrams are good, but to be safe, you can always test with a multi meter before you hook things up.
Do you need a Dash kit? Can I just put the new radio right into where the old one was?
You could get by without a dash kit, but it may not fit perfect (leaving gaps around the radio). If you are cool with it, go for it.
I think you put the power antenna wire in the 12 volt constant power.... first, it probably doesn't have a power antenna, but that is not where the wire would go.
Nope, you will want to either hook the power antenna into the power antenna output of the radio. If it isn't equipped with one, you can tie it in with either the blue/white amp turn on wire or tie it into the red ignition accessory wire.
Do you have to purchase a Bluetooth mic to play music off your phone? Or purchase an aux cord?
The bluetooth mic is only needed for bluetooth calling as it acts as the mic for those on the other end to hear you. Not necessary for streaming music via bluetooth from a phone. You will need to purchase an aux chord as these radios do not supply them.
What is the tool called you used to remove the panels without messing them up?
+Tyler Martens Panel trim removal tools
Does it matter what color but connecters I use
Yes, as the color indicates size. Usually red size connectors match the size requirement of the radio wiring.
Ca you just switch the Radio without putting new harness in ?
It would require you to cut the factory harness and label colors manually. A harness adapter is only a few dollars and will save you a lot of time and effort in the end. Totally worth the purchase.
Is it easy
Will the pioneer DEH-X4900BT fit in this kit?
Sure will!
will the JVC KD-R680S work with the kit?
Yep, as any standard single din radio.
I really need to know, does this head unit sound good?? I got my car used and the previous owner installed a Kenwood kdc bt562u head unit which sounded way worse then the stock head unit. It made the stock speakers sound like tin cans. I really want a new head unit but am worried about sound quality after my experience with the Kenwood. Any suggestions?
I'm a pioneer fan, sure, but it is all in the ears of the beholder. This unit specifically puts out 14 watts rms per channel which may be a hair more than your factory radio, but it also allows you to make some EQ adjustments the factory radio will not allow. It's your call, but generally i've seen greater improvements.
Provo Beast Audio Installation Thanks!
Back when I had that head unit In my car I didn't know how to EQ so I might try it again before getting a pioneer.
Is there a turorial on the touchscreen one?
We don't have one, but a double din will fit fine as well, everything will be the same except for the dash kit needed, it requires the Metra 95-7899 kit. Same wiring harness and choose your double din radio.
2 Questions, I'm about to install a Kenwood deck and I noticed on 2:12 of your video you put the dark blue wire in with the red one, I'm also using a metra wiring harness and the Kenwood harness is pretty much identical to the Pioneer harness you're using and doesn't have a matching blue wire. What is the reason for putting the blue and red wire together? I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do the same thing, I'm just wondering your reason for doing this. Also, on the Kenwood deck, like the pioneer deck it has the blue wire with white stripe.. if that doesn't appear on the wire harness I got from Metra, it just stays left in its sleeve, correct?
Also, my deck has a brown wire that's used for muting purposes, do I just leave that alone or does it need to be combined with another wire also?
The blue wire is the power antenna and the Pioneer doesn't have a power antenna wire. So commonly, it is easiest just to tie the power antenna wire in with the ignition wire to gain power when the key is on.
Just tape off the muting wire, you will not need it.
So any Pioneer Single-din In-dash Cd Receiver would work ?
Yep!
do you need to have the Bluetooth mic I dint quite understand that part
You don't need the bluetooth mic, but if your radio is bluetooth compatible, in order for hands free calling and the other end to hear you, you will need a mic. But again, the mic is optional.
Where does the red cable go? Because on my harness it doesn't come with a red cable. Please help. Thank you
The red wire? This is your ignition wire, or the wire that triggers your radio to turn on when you start your car. It is a necessary wire and will be required for your install.
What do I do if we cut off completely all the wires on the harness that comes with car I need help please
Oh boy, you've created a mess then. Either reattach the factory harness and use the adapter like the video, or you have to manually wire in your new harness using this diagram: www.modifiedlife.com/car-stereo-radio-wiring-diagram-2003-honda-civic/
I have been working on a similar install, but I can't get my radio sleeve to stay secure in the kit. Did you get yours to stay flush and completely secure?
Yep, you will need to ensure you bend the tabs out on the metal sleeve to ensure it stays secure in the dash kit.
I can't seem to get the tabs to bend in a way that fully secures it in the kit... what should I do to fix this?
Get creative, hot glue works wonders too
Would this work for pioneer mxt-2969bt
Yep. It will fit that model pioneer fine!
Would this work for a boss 508UAB?
Yep!
do I need the mic to play or connect my phone to bluetooth
can you use aux cord with it
Yes, there is an AUX input on the front of the radio.
I wire everything color coated bought spare fuses checked the fuse box for burnt fuses yet my stereo won’t turn on wtf I’m I doing wrong lol
fernando escobedo possible you have a short somewhere. Recheck wires and connectors.
is civic IMA the same procedure
Sure would be!
Why didn’t you throw a double din deck in
if i were to get an aftermarket stereo do i have to get the kit? or will the stereo just fit if i just take out the stock stereo and replace it with the aftermarket?
+aycy10 You will need a dash kit. There are different types depending on the brand. Regardless, you will need it.
+Provo Beast is it because the stock stereo doesn't come out as an individual so i need a kit?
They are not the same size, it won't be a direct swap, but you could use the factory bracket but it would leave gaps around the radio. If you have a pocket below the radio, they are separate as shown in the video, but it isn't a perfect swap.
+Provo Beast ohhhhh alright, thanks for all the help ! ill order the kit from the link u shared in the description.
My pioneer deh 9800bt is broken and i want to replace it with different stereos, is there any cables needs to do to replace the subwoofers?
If you are just swapping out radios, your amp / sub system will be able to plug into the new radio, just as it is connected to the old.
Nice, the default radio has no aux cord so here I am lol
same
Do you have to disconnect the battery before taking the stereo out?
It is not necessary, but always advised for safety.
Thanks!
Yo I know those shorts from anywhere, you from Riverside bro?
Ha, Utah!
Where do you purchase the kit for the radio
Internet is your friend
Is this installation the same/ similar to installing a double din deck?
Yes, but you will need this dash kit instead: Metra 95-7899
Provo Beast Audio Installation I noticed that dash kit has a line through the middle of it, is it there for a reason? Will the Scosche HA1710B Work ?
You cut the line out. The scosche should work fine too.
