    I honestly love how hirano is unapologetically honest with the fact hes lazy, having so many mangaka bust their ass and nearly die or physically ruin their body because the fame they get makes them not want to seem "lazy" for taking a break... Having a guy fuck around, referencing shit, taking his time to write and draw and saying the truth that hes just some nerd who draws what he likes... Is, good in a way i just cant describe

      Its not the fame? It takes forever to make a manga page, even longer to make a chapter. These people arent chasing fame its just a really time consuming job that doesnt promote lazyness

      @SaanWukong 11 дней назад

      @JC-ol5dj Ehhh it's a bit of both imo
      Remember in Japan, being an extremely hard worker is what they see as the standard. They'd rather die working then take a sick day so when you're a successful mangaka, you're seen as a role model so I think the fame does play a huge part of how much suffering they do to get they monthly, God forbid WEEKLY manga out.

    Something I really love about hellsing is how all the characters have such a unique and strong impression. Integra has such a commanding and dominating aura that you can feel every time she is on screen, how Walter has such a refined and distinguished vibe but you can just tell he's ready to kick shit it at any point, and Alucard who feels like just a pure force of nature. They all have such distinct and powerful impressions in every single frame and I really love it

    I'm a firearms guy. His automatic 1911 Long Slide handcannon chambered in .454 Casull is amazing. Unless you made it in a Desert Eagle, no way it would work in reality, a .454 Casull has wayyyy too much pressure, it'd blow the Slide of backwards if it was a 1911. However, since Hellsing isn't bound to reality, I'll say his 1911 .454 Casull Long Slide is beyond amazing and awesome.

    • @uppishcub1617
      @uppishcub1617 6 месяцев назад +4

      Well keep in mind it isn't .454 Casull, its .454 Casull Auto. Which is a fictional cartridge. So the chamber pressure may be different. There's also that absurdly long slide, which would certainly help with the lock up. If the gun has a thicker frame than a standard 1911 then its perfectly plausible.

      @@uppishcub1617 It would be an insane design challenge though trying to get the 1911 design to work with .454 Casull (auto) even if you just scale it up. A similar example would be Brandon Herrera's Ak-50 project where he makes a 100% legit .50BMG based on the AK design. The amount of work he had to put in just to make it cycle is insane. As a Catholic ive always loved Andersen's portrayal, like in media we're often portrayed as either cardboard boring or the absolute incarnation of evil, so having a character like him that's just an utter badass is so cool to see.

      @mothersandfuckersofthejury5416 2 месяца назад +1

      All the characters in Hellsing are *surprisingly* well written. You'd think Anderson was just some extremist xenophobic monster hunter that loves a good fight but he's actually a man that sincerely believes in his faith and wants to protect those weaker than him (as long as they don't pick a fight like idiots). He even helps Integra, a woman he called a Protestant whore, over following the orders of his own church just because he saw the corruption and respected Integra as a worthy adversary. His relationship with Alucard is, well. That. And his monologue before he stabs himself with the Nail really gives you an insight into his psyche. Overall 10/10 love that dilf

    Hellsing has a bunch of stuff in it that I normally might not gravitate towards, but because it has such strong "hell yeah the creator was having a good time" vibes that it transcends my usual preferences and is easily one of my all time favorites! I can definitely understand creating stuff for a broad demographic, but we also need creators like Hirano who make stuff first and foremost for themselves. That kind of passion will always find its audience :)

    I always love when people discover this series. It's a ride for sure, though it always seems like people don't understand how unkillable Alucard is by the end lol.
    There's also a lot to say about some of the lore thrown in near the end. That blood given willingly imparts a larger piece of ones self to the vampire. Seras gains her familiar, Pip- all of his love, support, knowledgem and ruthlessness are not only a part of her forever now, but it gives her a feeling of never being alone. Alucard's was the Hound of Baskerville, a shout-out to Sherlock Holmes. Later, after the Hound is "killed", I assume it's shifted to Schrödinger, since at the end he is now everyvhere unt novere.
    While the prequel could have shed some light, you are right- the original story gives us enough hints to basically piece together the gist of what happened in the past. Walter, as an under 18 year old has an existential crisis when he realizes how powerful Alucard is while just fucking around, and how he's basically immortal. It's likely implied that he was eventually forced to use level 0, which is why the Major and Walter know about it. I doubt Arthur would have told is vampire hunting butler how to kill Alucard. From there, Walter makes a deal with Doc, as it's implied at the Major is killed before the Party gives up. In the future, after I've reawakened Alucard, turn me into a vampire so I can kill him.
    I must admit that I do not enjoy the 2001 anime. It was okay, it was different, but it wasn't really what I liked about Hellsing. It was fine for what it was, and gave more development to Seras as a person, but outside of that, the music is really the only part I liked.
    I'll give you a fun detail, in that my local library as a high schooler had the first 7 or 8 volumes. That's how I found the manga lol. I own 9 and 10, since they never seemed to get them. I enjoyed Hirano's change from that wirey hair on Alucard to the smoother style, it was almost like he slicked back his hair in V3 and was like "I like this, I'll keep it for a minute".

    Hellsing ultimate has become my favorite anime in the history of animes ever and has permanently affected my sense of style and what I love in a fictional series, barring not even just anime. I legit rewatch it monthly it's so good and recommend it to everything and everyone.
    Amazing retrospective all around I have to say, and gave me a lot of insights I didn't know into Hellsings origins!

    Hellsing has a special place in my heart. The TV series was the first anime I have ever watched (OVA was long from being finished back then) and the Hellsing manga was the first manga I ever read from start to finish. It was also the reason why I went down the slippery slope of internet culture, because Hellsing was (and still kind of is) largely unknown in Russia and I had zero people who I could talk about it in real life (even among those who had a passing interest in anime). In a weird way, it actually changed my life and warped me into a guy who is deep in the internet culture, computers, gothic aesthetics, VtM and so on. Heck, maybe I wouldn't even be a software engineer today if I didn't stumble onto Hellsing in my early teens!
    Crazy how that works.

    Great video!!! I love the OST of the original anime, I always tried to make sense of the opening lyrics, but I couldn't lol. I had a couple of the original Dark Horse volumes, but it may be I've gifted them away... I never expected old manga volumes to go up in value! I'll check out the new special edition, I'd love to revisit the series. Thank you again!

    Hellsing was what brought me back into anime when I was in college (after pokemon and sailor moon seemed "too childish" for my teenage sensibilities and I lost interest in the medium, Hellsing was the perfect edgy reintroduction for me) and it's still one of my favorite examples in the vampire subgenre, because I think it was the first time I saw vampires depicted as this force-of-nature, y'know, the scene with Alucard against Luke, who even as a vampire can't hold a candle to _the_ vampire, or that goddamn iconic "Guess what I just caught? I caught you. Rip. Van. Winkle."

    • @jahrusalem3658

      I love that they made the Vampires just straight-up _monsters._ And I think a big part of that is the teeth, Jesus the fucken _teeth,_ it's like they took the teeth out of a bull shark and copy-pasted them onto humans. I love it.

    What I appreciate most about Hellsing is its love for its source material. Integra, Seras and Anderson are characters that would fit right in with Dracula, just cranked to 11 when the shooting starts. And while it is an action series focused on cool, there are some genuinely wrenching moments that the art and the voice acting in the OVAs really bring home.
