That's awesome, I didn't even know that was a thing. The origins of DLC is actually quite wholesome with companies usually just rewarding gamers for supporting them.
I remember playing Brute Force and in terms of control it just felt right to me. But it definitely wasn't the big game they wanted it to be because it didn't have the x factor that, say, Halo had.
The Halo map packs the the Star Wars Battlefront 2 DLC were the first time I had ever esperienced DLC. Despite its flaws it was cool that The Battlefront Collection brought the original dlc back.

@19:34 "Let me know in the comments what you want to hear about next." As far as I know, there's enough where this can actually be a series on your channel. Brute Force had this interesting mix of dystopian sci-fi, satire of aforementioned and i felt the weapons had such good play for the time. Games like Halo had the fps gunplay perfected but I would consider Brute Force for having some of the most solid 3rd person perspective action of the era. I would love some examples of contemporaries that you all think did the 3pp shooting better cause I would like to compare them. While it's true nostalgia goggles can blind most of us as we associate certain games with happier times, and while I did play BF as a kid, I also replayed it on original xbox about 5 years ago when I was 23. I was thinking that with a decade of gaming experience, BF might not hold up very well, as several other games had fallen flat upon revisitation. Happily enough, I realised that Brute Force had aged very well for me and I am pleased to see it has DLC. Maybe one day I'll be able to try it out!
The Voice in this Video is much louder and smoother in compare for example to the James Bond Video u did :) - just wanna give feedback :) Maybe do the background music a BIT louder (not much) and the Games in the Bookmarks are not right it says that the last one would be MX Superfly maybe take a look on those too! Also for the Video Topic: I know that Splinter Cell got some DLC's back in the day with new maps etc. but that is all i know
Could we get a ranked DLC video for story based content. Adding maps and cars and mechs to me seems easier than adding full story content. I would be curious to know what the best ones out there are and if anything could be close to being called expansion worthy
@@campxbox I would love to see that. Like you said though I can't imagine it being a long list as DLC was often quite small back then. Usually side projects that took very little time for the dev team to make and kept download sizes down because internet connections were so darn slow back then.
I had that MechAssault game back in the day and couldn't play it because it required an update and I had no way of connecting my console to the internet back in the day.
I’ll keep pushing it but secret weapons over Normandy is a great arcade aerial combat game and it has DLC available on XBox magazine demo discs so it’s still readily available.
The other week I installed the driver 3 original Xbox title update / patch. does anyone know what it actually does? As I've been trying to figure it out since.
Were all these free? Caught your comment on Amped 2. IIRC, Halo map packs were $4 each. Would be interested to know which DLCs were paid vs free across the library. I honestly was shocked to see how much DLC was out there and preserved.
Yes, meant for system link and Xbox Live. Nothing was included in the campaign. But the title updates may have changed weapon balance and that could have affected the campaign.
You can FTP it from your PC to the Xbox. If you have a softmod, you can download XMBC for gamers and that has an online database you can download them from. I believe you can buy an adapter to hook a flash drive in and put them on there that way, but I haven't tried that.
13:54 I could not disagree any further. Vanilla Comp Mech1 - only the Loki was ever seen in regular TD, as it was a faster cloak version of the Mad Dog that was faster and had significantly better heat related stats. These traits made it the only viable DLC mech introduced, which is frankly an embarrassment. We took it upon ourselves to change this in our mod where the Corvus has a gauss rifle now and the Hellbringer has 2 flamers and 3 LRMs instead of one, among other things, but the fact that they were released in that state, even as free DLC, shocks me. Demo Town was the most popular DLC map, specifically using blue and green spawns in TD because they put you near 2 missile salvage. And since the meta at that time (aka pre-rebalance) revolved around the Prome and Rag this meant that the first 30 seconds were dedicated to fighting over those 2 pieces of salvage, using the bridges to destroy any mechs that were caught on top of it. Green spawn actually had it the worst because the mechs spawned next to 2 salvage tanks, so if you were lucky you could cripple green spawn right out of the gate and gain a massive advantage. Aside from that, Rock Solid was also pretty good due to elevation differences which stuff like the Catapult or Belial could take advantage of. Hells Kitchen was pretty mid, due to all the tanks being hazards that could easily cripple you. Stone Cold was far too open to be enjoyable, and it would turn into sniper trades between Rags and mad Cats. And the other maps weren't seen too often either due to being locked to objective modes, with Desert Storm being the best one due to there being multiple lanes to approach the flags from. Midtown mayhem was okay but the relative openness of the flag base made it exploitable, as well as the turret hitboxes getting in the way of some mechs leaving said base. Anyways play Rebalance, we made Mech1 better indisputably, with our newest update releasing tomorrow.
Thanks for all the info you definitely have more knowledge than me with the online experience in MechAssault. Happy to see people still loving that game!
xbox had dlcs? I thought that was a modern thing starting with the infamous oblivion horse armour, did these have any discs like the halo 2 multiplayer? were they free?
Halo 2 multiplayer was just a pack of the DLC available on XBL! I still credit Xbox as being the god father of DLC. But that being said I didn't know about the Dreamcast!
Original Xbox had no Forza DLC, Forza didn't even support DLC. There was a title update that fixed compatibility between the Xbox Live Arcade/Forza Combo disc, and the standalone game, but that's about it.
I miss mechassault and brute force they were my favorite games I wish they were backwards compatible, it seems like Xbox is picky with what game they bring back
This is an example of why I don't like DLC. These things are no longer available unless you have a modded Xbox or you bought it years ago when the original Xbox Live servers were still up I don't like DLC at all this s*** needs to end in games
Xbox Live was what popularized DLC, but it was also a golden era of DLC. Game devs actively supported their games for a very low cost, or free (the majority being free) for a year or more after their game came out. Preservation efforts for Xbox are ongoing, but we are still missing a handful of critical unique DLC files. Many of these DLCs were released when the majority of the team had moved onto other projects. They felt more like devs writing a love letter to their fans, and less like trying to nickel and dime their customers until the end of time. Even Bungie made the Halo 2 DLCs free after a few months.
I would bet half of the DLC released on the OG Xbox could be considered lost media nowadays.
Great video btw Camp XBOX! always cool to see this stuff.

It's always awesome when games still hold up all these years later because it's not always the case.
It was a weird time. I bought halo 2 dlc, but didnt bat an eye when they made a disc variant you could pick up at the game store.
The DLC for the original Unreal Chsmpionship was good too
The Voice in this Video is much louder and smoother in compare for example to the James Bond Video u did :) - just wanna give feedback :) Maybe do the background music a BIT louder (not much) and the Games in the Bookmarks are not right it says that the last one would be MX Superfly maybe take a look on those too! Also for the Video Topic: I know that Splinter Cell got some DLC's back in the day with new maps etc. but that is all i know
I appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
Could we get a ranked DLC video for story based content. Adding maps and cars and mechs to me seems easier than adding full story content. I would be curious to know what the best ones out there are and if anything could be close to being called expansion worthy
That's a good idea. There wasn't a ton of story based DLC on the Xbox, but it would be nice to compile those.
@@campxbox I would love to see that. Like you said though I can't imagine it being a long list as DLC was often quite small back then. Usually side projects that took very little time for the dev team to make and kept download sizes down because internet connections were so darn slow back then.
Hello and Welcome to Camp Xbox this week’s topic DLC
Oh shit as a collector how does a collector get a hold of these DLC’s
Just google "Original Xbox DLC", you'll find them :)
Mech assault was fantastic I miss playing it
First Xbox DLC I ever saw in person was DLC for Hunter the Reckoning: Redeemer.
My first ever console was the original Xbox and the first game I got Fable. 2 years later I got Fable the lost chapters and Halo 2
Saw brute force and mech assault
Instant watch
God i miss Mechassault
Mechwarrior 5 is great but Mechassault was fun for being arcade-y
It's playable on Insignia, the Xbox Live replacement right now.
I had that MechAssault game back in the day and couldn't play it because it required an update and I had no way of connecting my console to the internet back in the day.
Anyone have a list of DLC on the Xbox Demo Discs? I'd love to see that content.
It's on ConsoleMods wiki in the Xbox section under Xbox Live DLC.
Mannnnnnnnn you took me back with these games choices amped was my shit i had to much time played with that 😂
I’ll keep pushing it but secret weapons over Normandy is a great arcade aerial combat game and it has DLC available on XBox magazine demo discs so it’s still readily available.
I actually bought this game the other day!
@@campxbox it one of my favorites on the system. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
I had most of these DLCs back then 😅
Please run XCAT on that console in case you have anything that hasn't be archived.
Most was free, but there were a fair amount of paid DLC too.
I know Kotor 2 had a little bit of gear you could download
damn, for real? I've never heard about this.
KotOR II wasn't even an Xbox Live enabled game. KotOR 1 has 1 piece of DLC, Yavin Station.
so all the MechAssault stuff was for multiplayer?
Yes, meant for system link and Xbox Live. Nothing was included in the campaign. But the title updates may have changed weapon balance and that could have affected the campaign.
Is there any way to play DLC without a modded console or emulating?
Yes, but installing DLC on a stock xbox is a pain in the butt.
How would you add dlc to your Xbox in 2024? Flash drive?
You can FTP it from your PC to the Xbox. If you have a softmod, you can download XMBC for gamers and that has an online database you can download them from. I believe you can buy an adapter to hook a flash drive in and put them on there that way, but I haven't tried that.
FTPing a DLC installer of downloading from Insignia is your best bet. Insignia doesn't host all DLC that's been archived.
Im actually the only person who played brute force. AMA
I did, and that's why we have the DLC today!
@@campxbox yeah I live and die by that game and how could I not? It's *so* good
xbox had dlcs? I thought that was a modern thing starting with the infamous oblivion horse armour, did these have any discs like the halo 2 multiplayer? were they free?
Halo 2 multiplayer was just a pack of the DLC available on XBL! I still credit Xbox as being the god father of DLC. But that being said I didn't know about the Dreamcast!
A lot of them were free and some like Jade Empire would have special editions that included the DLC on disc.
So would you say that the rock solid level is..not rock solid?
The game to have the best dlc on OG Xbox is still Fable
More dlc videos please.
Definitely in the plans!
If Microsoft teased Xbox Live for original Xbox turning back on
I wish I could get ahold of the dlc for forza I still try and connect to Xbox live on my OG Xbox 😭
Original Xbox had no Forza DLC, Forza didn't even support DLC. There was a title update that fixed compatibility between the Xbox Live Arcade/Forza Combo disc, and the standalone game, but that's about it.
"Released with two DLC" So you're saying day 1 DLC was a thing even back then?
Yup! Mechassault 2 for example had a free DLC on Xbox Live that also shipped with the Limited Collectors Edition disc.
👍💻🎮🕹️🕹️👍💻🎮🕹️🎥
I miss mechassault and brute force they were my favorite games I wish they were backwards compatible, it seems like Xbox is picky with what game they bring back
Insignia, the xbox live replacement supports Mechassault right now.
U forgot Project Gotham Racing 2
Anyone remember mace griffin?
Too bad that RSC 1+2 are not anymore available on the xbox.
Magic: The Gathering Battlrground
Can you sell me the dlc?
“Brute force has grown on me a bit”
Only took 20 years lmao
