@@davidplubell1869 nope, any guitarist can use a marshall and none will sound like Malcolm. Besides you'd be surprised how many guitarists findit so hard to hold back and stick to the rhythm, too many can't, they just want to let rip into a solo.
thats a perfect lesson to rhythm guitarists how to play presence... nice mellow but hard rockin, just chillin while angus works the crowd... and builds it up to full fuckin steam as angus starts to let loose. Mal lived, breathed, rocked and bled rhythm.... he was so beloved by the guitar community, that the "top 100 guitarists of all time" voters demanded he be included on the voting list of already full 100 guitarists... he ended up 40 something on a top 100 list he was not even nominated on. His favourite ac/dc album is powerage, and once you listen to it, you'll understand why.
This is really a showcase in control of the instrument. It may sound simple but his touch is really terrific. He plays hard but yet there are subtleties in his playing that are his and his alone. He knew just exactly how to hit it hard but keep it controlled God Bless Malcolm Young
He always knew when not to play, its amazing what he did, this is a great example of Mr. Young's talent. Not to mention the guitar and tone he created himself through trial and error.
One of the (admittedly many) greatest monster riffs ever. How that guitar is not howling its brains out from feedback in front of a wall of Marshalls 🤘 Malcolm Young was metronomic and knew how to modulate his volume and attack on the guitar, to brilliant effect. And he had great technique, L & R.
Malcolm had a feel that very few players these days can replicate, but a couple of things help: 1) Heavy strings. Malcolm played 12s with a wound G. This allowed him to get a lot of dynamics without going out of tune. 2) Ease back on the gain. His gain was perfect for his playing because it only broke up when he hit it hard. Then as the chords rang out, it got cleaner. Rhythm guitar sounds better without a lot of overdrive.
Malcolm was rock rythym personified! Lead players get the accolades and attention. Thats ok. But man when you listen to the wall of sound engineered by him Phil and Cliff. Its no wonder Angus was so inspired and confident to pour his little frame into the monster non stop riffing machine that he is. 😎🎸
People don't often get this. It's true. Malcolm held the rhythm section down almost singlehandedly. As great as the bass & drums are, you could take them out entirely and the pulse would still be perfect.
Powerage...the album Keith Richards (the riff master) listens to for a bit of inspiration...Mal Young was the engine room of AcDc..no one like him. RIP.
Ive always wondered who was playing through the Mesa/Boogies at the donington show, and I’m guessing that whole tour. My guess was Angus because you see the most of them by Malcolm. Presumably so he could hear Angus’s playing
I think Mal used at least MB cabs for sure at least at donnington - not sure about the amp. There are like a million threads on different forums regarding Mals amps. Some say he used super lead 100s, theres mention of wizard amps etc. No matter what amp he used i can tell you one thing, no matter what amp you use you cold never get that sound without his extreme sense of rhythm. I have seen so many videos of people "teaching how to sound and play like ac/dc and no one comes anything near his incredible timing. That combined with cliff and phil makes a rhythm section this world will never see again
Man please tell me what you used to isolate Malcolm from the whole recording! I really need to learn how to use this kind of software it would push my learning a lot.
Hooooooow can a guitar sound so hard and clean at the same time???!! Malcolm is the best guitarist ever!
Marshall. That's all
12-56 strings, hard strumming, little bit of gain, gretsch filtertron pickup (bridge only), chambered guitar.

He's always put as number 1 for top rhythm players of all time. And deservedly so.
On guitar world top 50, he's number 1.

I think no website will show us the real rhythm guitar tabs of him because he used to have a strictly personal way to play his guitar
So GOOD...just so EFFING great!
The whole track is great, but from 3:50 on, you really hear how special Malcolm was.... and he's playing just one chord for several minutes!!
I've just said exactly the same via WhatsApp to a mate.
How to make such a filling rhythm with so few notes. Outstanding.
And in such a percussive and rhythmic way. Then he knows when to open up and let the notes ring to control the bands dynamics. The Master.

So incredibly intuitive. Malcolm was an absolute genius. I believe Angus when he said he couldn’t do what Malcolm does.
Amazing sense of rythmn and timing
Such an important part of the band. Connecting the rhythm section to the lead guitar.
Any good rhythm guitarist wants to be as good as Malcolm.

Awesome! Is it possible you do this for the stiff upper lip Live DVD? (also Malcolm)
1:15 I’m pretty sure the chorus chords are:
A High
C Voltage
D Rock and
C Roll
Or, ACDC
That's right! They said it was the idea to use that chord line in a song and what better song than "high voltage"!
Never satisfied with a 3 note power chord, always with 4 or 5 strings. I hear it every time I hear them on the radio.
