    Love you guys....very informative.
I would like to add...don't get discouraged if you don't get significant relief right away. You MUST be consistent in doing the stretches every day for up to several weeks/months before total relief.
Also make sure you sleep correctly (on your side) with a pillow between your knees and neck supported and in alignment with your back.
It took me several months and I am proud to say I am healed without surgery....totally off meds.
I am continuing my stretches and to make sure I stay well, I have built up my core muscles to help support my healing as well as worked on my posture (it's not perfect, but I'm getting there). I had forward head posture, arthritis, and thoracic nerve syndrome....all fixed. My doctor who suggested surgery which involved removing thumb bones is very impressed with my healing! I'm over the moon to dodge surgery and thankful for all your help.
Hoping this encourages your readers to keep at it. Stretching, good posture, healthy eating healthy, drinking plenty of water....and staying positive are key to good health! Oh...and watching you guys 😜

Working professionally in arts and writing. I just wanted to say thank you for this comprehensive video. That one exercise with the arm outstretched (palm facing the wall and neck bent) made a world of difference, it really did. It's great that you emphasised the importance of 'being a wimp' when it matters and that more pain =/= more gain so thank you for that.
Using an arm brace, a strong balm for massaging, regular stretches, and lots of sleep and over the last couple days my grip is slowly returning, strength renewing. I'll be taking another week or so of rest just in case.
To anyone else reading this, the worst thing you could do to yourself right now is to expect results quick. Give your body credit and trust that you will get better in good time. Try out the exercises gently (very very gently and slowly) and don't forget the importance of deep breathing as you do them. If you're emotionally overwrought and panicking you could hurt yourself further. Release the tension.
Hydrate well, sleep deep (your body heals during deep sleep), and give yourself as much time as you can. You don't want to see incremental improvement and jump back into work as if you're all better, only to get injured again. You're going to be ok, medical procedure or no. Give yourself time.

As a musician (bass, Piano, guitar), I was pretty bummed when my wrists starting acting up despite paying attention to proper technique. This video has made me feel a little better and realize it's not the end of the world yet. My issues, most likely, are probably the result of my wrist position while I sleep as well as my job. He was not able to address my questions nor my concerns. I wanted to get a doctors note for two weeks off from work. I have two jobs as a realtor & as a Beauty consultant at Target … where the management makes you work insanely with no human consideration. Instead, he wrote me a note saying only 18 boxes a day is suitable for me. Sooo disappointed. I learned a lot from your video so thank you so much. I hope in the future ppl who join medicine must remember why they picked that career and show passion & honest dedication.

Over the last 3y or so, my dominant right arm has far outstripped anything I ever felt in my left. Many days over the last 6-8 months were maddening, close to unbearable. This was so helpful. I have carpel tunnel syndrome diagnosed. The position of my neck is the only thing that causes symptoms of numbness. The doctors want to skip directly to surgery. They didn't suggest any therapy, wearing a brace, or exercises. I kept telling them I believe my neck is the main cause. Without ever checking anything in my neck, they said you have carpel tunnel, you need surgery. I was left on my own to seek out these options. I'm so thankful for videos like this.

Okay. Here's my progress of my daily stretches.
1st week: It hurts after waking up and sometimes it feels like it kind of burning. Numb and tingly. Made a homemade splint consisting of a piece of cloth and plastic ruler that I wear most of the time.
2nd week: There's still some numbness and tingling after waking up and little to no pain after waking up. Took out the plastic ruler and just wrap a cloth on my wrist.
3rd week: Almost no pain and numbness after waking up, except when I accidentally sleep on the arm that has CTS. Still wearing the cloth as a splnt. Will only wear it before sleeping though.
4th week: No pain or numbness now. But still wearing the cloth splint
Note: On the morning that this pain started, I immediately searched for home remedies.

A physical therapist ("phisiotherapist" in the UK) or occupational therapist might be able to look at exactly what you are doing while you are playing and tell you if there is a specific thing you are doing wrong. A friend of a friend was told by doctors he could never play guitar again he had done so much damage to his nerves, but a physiotherapist taught him what he could do differently and now he is back playing guitar.. of course relearning was hard!

The scalene muscles are the first muscle group mentioned about neck area issues and if I'm not wrong scalene muscles end at c7 and I have bilateral cervical ribs at c7(!) that are in the stage of attempting to fuse to the first ribs.
I feel like maybe my cervical ribs poke through my scalene muscles, or perhaps it's uncomfortable because stretching the scalenes moves the ribs which adds/reduces pressure on my brachial plexi... either way, I hope better posture is good enough for everyone watching that is affected by symptoms of CTS including myself, lol ♡

hey guys me again! lol as I've said before I've got rheumatoid arthritis but I've had carpal tunnel syndrome for 20 years, I had the surgery on right hand a few years back and that led to my Ra diagnosis! I'm not allowed surgery for the left as I'm not well enough now. it's a frustrating condition as a single mum I had years struggling to make breakfast and brush my daughter's hair etc.

chinookvalley sorry to hear that hun do you have osteoarthritis or rheumatoid? Honestly I've become so incapable across my whole body that you would think the hands were the least of my worries but in fact it's the bit that bothers me the most! Being unable to stand/walk/drive etc would be much more acceptable if I could craft with my hands, I do try on a good day and I've learnt a few things I can do, it just all takes more time and plenty of aids and adaptions x

I have it in my right hand and I'm only 23! Didn't realize the average age was much older. I've had it for a year and got it because I play guitar. My right hand technique has diminished a great deal in that time. For example all of my fingerpicking skills were lost. I can barely position my hand to do so. What's worse is I can't even hold a pick let alone use it. (Which is depressing considering that right before I got the syndrome I obtained these beautiful stone guitar picks.) What I find interesting is that I have heard that guitar players typically get it in the LEFT or the fretting hand and not the right. But I'm going for a consult with my surgeon tomorrow, and am experiencing pain as I'm typing so...wish me luck!

I’ve had the surgery on both of my wrists.
While my pediatrician took the pain and dysfunction seriously, the orthopedic doctor implies that I was lying and e exaggerating the pain it caused. He told my mom that I was too young to have it. I was 13. She gave him what for because of it. After &00 mg of Motrin twice a day did nothing, he finally sent me to have a nerve test done and, surprise, I had a pretty bad case of it.
When my mom to me for the results, the doctor acted like he knew it was all along. Never apologized either and scheduled the surgery.
As we were leaving, I looked at the dude and was like. “I’ve been on using a computer since I were 3., used a Braille writer until being given a note taker (a PDA with Braille keys, speech , and a Braille display. You knew all this, tell me and my mom you thought I was lying with no evidence, then act like you knew the whole time.. I hope you don’t treat all your patients this was… its disrespectful and arrogant.”

I am a professional guitar player now retired but have played guitar since I was 10 years old . About 1 year ago I started having problems with my left hand middle finger hurt like if wearing a ring that was to tight around the middle knuckle where you would wear a ring. I don't wear rings. and when bending my hand in playing guitar I can hardly bend that middle finger . Also I notice most of the time at the base of where my neck meets the shoulder I feel dull pain on the left side that goes across the top of my shoulder left side and on the very shoulder to arm down to my elbow. It will at night or sometimes cause my left hand to go to sleep and tingle . I've had Xray's and it comes back minor arthritis in my shoulder joint and hand. When I do the stretches that you show in shoulder and neck like the wall W exercises . I am told just take Advil and practice less on Guitar . But I did watch Les Paul talk about do stretches before playing and warm up exercises before a performance, not that I am doing many today but I still have my love of music it is like stopping a bird from flying . This has been very hard to deal with when nothing is out there talking about Guitar player and musicians that get these problems I am 67 years old by the way .
