I have a very painful problem in both my thumbs.its where they connect to the hands/ wrist.when I grab something hard or have to carry something heavy while gripping the pain is excruciating. The thumbs are pretty twisted .the Dr says arthritis and steroids which for me is a last resort but on the horizon. @@DrRowe Hi, Dr. Rowe. I just started getting the CT pain and weakness in my fingers and wrists recently, but the pain and weakness that I've had a while beforehand (which seems linked) is the muscle or tendon at the base of the forearm where your arm bends. It's not the elbow, but the other side which flexes when you have to hoist up a heavy box or something. Both arms hurt here and are weakened. Is this likely carpal tunnel as well, and if so, can one do the muscle scraping at those sections of the arm too? And do you have good exercises for that part of the arm or will those wall press, hand twist exercises you show here help that? Thanks for any help.

    Hi Dr. Rowe,
After a lifetime of computer work, I have in recent years developed some tingling, numbness and grip/strength issues in both hands. I was (finally) recently diagnosed with severe carpal tunnel syndrome and scheduled for surgery next week.
However when googling the topic, I became hesitant due to various accounts of long recoveries, hit and miss results but most importantly a number of sources suggesting that exercises could address the issue.
While viewing a bunch of exercise videos I came upon yours which seemed credible and safe. I put the exercises to the test thinking that it couldn't hurt. I started with my left hand only (my right hand being the "control group") and lo and behold, after working through all of the exercises on the left hand only once, most of my tingling and numbness on my left hand disappeared.
I will definitely doing these exercises daily on both hands for awhile, and perhaps once I have stabilized and improved, continue doing these on a periodic basis to maintain the hopefully good results.
The only thing I am left wondering is why the pro orthopedic hand specialist didnt suggest going this route - could it be lack of knowledge (or more likely something to do with $$$?).
Anyways, I am very thankful for the knowledge you have shared here!!!
    Thanks
    Dennis

Surgery is supposed to be the last option, after splints, physical therapy, acupuncture/accupressure, steriod shots or anti inflammatories.

    • @JMEStuff
      @JMEStuff Год назад

Hi Dennis. I have been scouring the Internet looking for the 'magic bullet' in terms of exercises to eliminate the permanent tingling and numbness in my right hand's first 3 digits. Like you my next option is surgery. My nerve conduction test indicated severe carpal tunnel and possible nerve damage. I hesitate having surgery and like @askme3411 states below, I'm going through the other options. My ortho refused to give me a steroid shot because he stated that it can interfere with the surgery if I agree to have it soon. Unfortunately Dr. Rowe did not comment on your experience and his output would have given me a little hope. Out of the exercises presented which really made a difference for you?

Omg!! THANK YOU!! I’ve had a sore thumb and wrist for the past couple of months and it was beginning to cause me sooo much pain that I talked to the doctor about it. It got so I couldn’t safely take a cup of coffee in my left hand so I knew something was wrong. So the doctor said we could keep an eye on it and to see in a couple weeks if it was still bothering me I could go back to see him. So I went for a couple more weeks and the pain didn’t get worse but it sure didn’t improve either. During that time I purchased a brace for the thumb and wrist because I was becoming dangerous when the hand would just release whatever I would try to hold on to. The brace helped and felt so much better until I took it off and then the pain would return ten fold. The doc told me to just wear the brace at night and I could wear it longer if I needed to. So I’ve been wearing it but it’s a nuisance especially when in the kitchen because my hands are constantly in and out of water. So I’ll typically take it off but then the pain has been intense. I went back to the doc and he said well maybe you should see a physiotherapist about it. I was thinking shouldn’t we get an X-ray or something to see if something is broken? No that wasn’t necessary. So I asked him if he could refer me to a physiotherapist and he said well all the good ones that he knows are booked up several months ahead already. So I was beginning to wonder if it was arthritis in my thumb and wrist or what was going on. Then by chance I happened upon your video today and I’ve been trying a lot of the exercises and stretches that you recommended and oh my word they have been the best thing to help even better then the brace!!! I can’t thank you enough!! For the first time I feel like I have some idea as to what is going on with my wrist! I’m thrilled to have found you and I have a lot of areas of my body that could be improved upon with stretching and strengthening exercises so I’m subscribing to your channel and I hope you have many more videos that show these incredible step by step how to instructions. I’m also going to send a link of this video to my doc and recommend that he share it with the next person that comes in complaining of similar symptoms to what I was experiencing because I truly feel I can now heal my wrist and thumb. Oh my doc described it as tendinitis, I don’t know if that’s a catch all phrase or what but I’m sure looking forward to not continuing to live in daily pain. 🥰❤️🇨🇦🙏🏻😊 thank you so much!!! ❤

(Not recommended by me that 😱) however my right dominant hand is awful - despite many and various treatments. My middle and ring fingers are very numb yet sensitive too. I can barely feel smaller items like coins or say sequins and it’s painful. Three years down the line! I will come back and tell you how I have got on! Than you so much! ❤

Great video! The spoon massage works great! Just a hint to help others. When you are away from home and you don’t have access to a spoon you can still do this and get pain relief. Take your opposite hand and make a fist, use your middle knuckles on your hand to scrape the area. I have used this method many times and it works like magic. I was in such severe pain about 15 years ago that I had two steroid injections. The first injection worked great, but the pain soon returned and then no relief from the second steroid injection. My Doctor was insisting that I have surgery and was telling me that if I didn’t that I would end up not being able to use my hand at all. Of course that frightened me. I began following this method to treat the problem and PTL my pain was gone. Just a reminder that my arm was sore for a day from where I had scraped the tissue. I have been pain free for 15 years and I came back to watch this again because I did a lot of repetitive motion with my wrist and I got it irritated and the pain returned. This method really does work. Doctors are extremely quick to want to cut on you rather than to fix the problem. Thank you for educating your viewers so that they can help themselves.❤️❤️

CLOSED CAPTION WARNING: at 5:15 the closed caption says something like repeat it for "115 times." Don't! He meant to say, "do this one, 15 times." He repeats himself a few seconds later, and the CC catches it right that time. It happens again at 9:27 ("110 to 15"... should be "one, 10 to 15 times."). There might be more, and they might be obvious, but just a simple warning for the hearing impaired.

    The spoon massage was effective.
I only have what I consider a mild issue though.
It built up over a month, probably down to daily computer use, gaming and press ups.
Tingling in small finger and then pain in the wrist.
After the massage the pain sensation is approximately 70% gone.
    I will practice this daily.

I suffer from anxiety which tightens muscles everywhere and causes nerve pain due to muscle tension/pressure on nerves.
One of the main areas which cause extreme nerve pain is the meaty part of the palm below the thumb. Physio has instructed me to use a stretching technique which does help and alleviates the nerve pain for awhile, but is more of a "Band-Aid" vs a longterm solution.
The first two of these three though...*WOW!* Now THAT'S a stretch!

I've been suffering for weeks now. I'm on a 14 to 16 day straight work schedule that requires significant hard labor. For the last 4 days I could not sleep for more than 10 to 20 minutes without waking up in severe pain of pins, needles, burning, stinging, and shooting pain from what I believe is CTS along with right arm tennis elbow. I finally had a moment to look into self treatment for this. I already wear wrist braces and an elbow compression band but can't get any relief lately. I will be completing these exercises to try for some kind of help and pain relief. I promise to follow up and report my results. I've been looking for this type of instruction and finally found this. I hope and pray it will help. Thanks for posting the video.
