    Can a clogged condensate hose cause a split system to not cool? I don’t have any visible leaking inside, and there is no dripping coming out of the outside pipe… and my system will not cool. Praying it’s not a refrigerant leak. I just repaired one of my other units and it was over $1000. Three major repairs over two units in the last nine months on ACs installed three years ago. 😭

      Jess, it's hard to tell. It doesn't sound like it's related to anything with the condensate line.

      @@airspool the tech just came and said it is most likely a leak somewhere 😭 I have three split systems all about three years old and this is the third major repair (2nd leak) in eight months. Am I just this unlucky? How common are leaks? I hear they’re rare. Could this be poor installation?

    • @airspool
      @airspool  11 месяцев назад

      They are rare if the system is properly installed. During the installation, it should be tested at high pressure with nitrogen, and then tested at negative pressure using a vacuum pump. If it holds the pressure, then it will be fine once the refrigerator is released. So have a good talking to with whoever installed those units.

      @@airspool the same person or company who installed them is the one servicing them. And they are telling me that “these things happen” because I live in Hawaii and it’s a rough climate. Meanwhile, no one else that I know is having these problems.

      You can make excuses, or you can make good connections in your line set. You can't make both.

    There’s a dripping noise behind my unit wall (not inside the room, the dripping seems outside) however when I go outside, I dont see dripping maybe its inside the unit. Also when i turn my heater or cooler on it works good for 10 minutes then it turns off.

    • @airspool
      @airspool  Месяц назад

      For the noise, it's hard to tell without hearing or seeing the video. Maybe then also hard to tell. For the turning off, maybe the unit is meeting the set point after a few minutes? Then it will turn off possibly.

    It's not always a clog in drain line. I'm dealing with one now where water is dripping BEHIND the drain pan and blower wheel from the backside of the coil. Design flaw. Not fun at all.

    • @airspool

      Did they send you out a new unit? It sounds like that manufacturer is going to have quite a few challenges on their hands to remedy this if it's a common problem.

      @@airspool I put the closest thing I had to a plastic baffle (foam tape) on the top of backside of coil as it is from the manufacturer on the front.
      I also added a shim to the bracket top right side to keep unit close to being flush to wall (propping the coil itself upright)
      Poured some water on backside of coil.
      No more drips
      Seemed to work.
      We will see

      @@barrypeirson3710 Hey Barry, I seem to be encountering the same issue with you. I have mini splits that drain to common pipe, but the bigger one has this leak coming out like yours from the panel closest to the wall (sounds like where you described for your leak). I've tested by pouring water into the drain pan of the bigger one and it flows into the main drain no issue too. You mentioned a shim to keep the unit flush - I did notice that the sealent that is on the back side of the panel has holes in it. Could you help me visualize what you did with the shim? Hoping it will help because I do have a trusted technician and he did all the standard cleaning and could not see any issues which makes me suspicious that this is a manufacturer/ installation issue like yours. My model is the mitsubishi heavy industries (which according to my technician is his least favorite to service, due to the inability of the model to be fully dismantlled). Thanks in advance.

      @@ryancheong9486 it's hard to explain. But you need a small piece of rubber pad or cardboard to put between the clip and the bracket so that the unit is flush against the wall (no gap)
      This will keep the unit upright as possible.
      I hate mini splits with a passion.
