How to optimize a mini-split remote and when to use different modes.
How do you work your remote on your new mini-split? What are all of these modes and buttons? We'll review these based on an Airspool heat pump, but many (e.g., heat, cooling, dehumidification, fan, and auto) are pretty universal. Oh, and how do you change the remote from Celcius to Fahrenheit?

Why is the outdoor unit of my mini-split leaking?
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 месяца назад
So, you have a puddle of water under the outdoor unit of your mini-split. Is this normal? Is your unit running in heating mode? If so, the outdoor unit's coil is acting as the evaporator, and is cold...maybe colder than the outside dew point. You know what that means? Condensation in the form of water when the outdoor coil is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and condensation in the form of frost if...
Shade your outdoor unit? Why/when specifically does it pay?

Heat affects your outdoor unit in 3 ways: radiatively, conductively, and convectively. Yes, manufacturers build their units to withstand the sun and work to reduce radiative heat that turns conductive (to limit the amount of this heat that makes it to your condenser coil), but what about convective heat off your roof or patio or side of your house? This will have some effect and potentially gre...

      Theoretically, forever. It doesn't go bad or expire. I remember my grandparents had a refrigerator from the 1950s or something. Probably not the most efficient, but it still worked. And it will keep working as long as there are not any refrigerant leaks.

    • @airspool
      @airspool 24 дня назад

      Well, none of this air from the furnace exhaust that will come inside, because the air just goes through the outdoor unit coil, and doesn't get pumped inside, but it's still probably wouldn't be a bad idea to keep a little bit away from it in case you need it to ever work on the unit.

    Hello. Thank you. I heard about this from this guy: ruclips.net/video/l2JOUCo7iaM/видео.html&index I like this. However, I live in a condo on the 3rd (top) floor. I wonder if I can install the condenser on the roof...? My other condo owners have given the green light. However, I am curious about how to secure it on the roof. It is a "flat" roof. What would happen with the drain? I don't think I can convince my neighbors to let me run the drain all the way down the side of the building. If I run it along with the refrigerant pipes up to the roof, can it pump up, and if so, how high? That way, the water will just go down the roof drains. Also, can I also bundle the cable in the insulation as well and just bring it inside my condo? Or is there somewhere to attach a cord in the inside unit so I don't have two-way traffic with the electricity?

    • @airspool
      @airspool Месяц назад

      Yes, the he top floor is a fortuitous location for what you want to do. Just mount the unit on the roof, hopefully in a hidden spot where it cannot be seen from ground level, and also run the condensate hose up there. You need a pump like this Little Giant VCMA-15ULS 115 Volt, 65 GPH, 1/50 HP Automatic Condensate Removal Pump with Safety Switch, White/Black, 554405 a.co/d/cXHKB7L. For the electrical, yes, you can bring it down into your unit from the outdoor unit on the roof and just plug it in to any plug within the condo.

    • @airspool
      @airspool Месяц назад

      Well, if it's ours, first check your power and your set point. If you have power, and if you have enough distance between your set point and the indoor air temperature, the outdoor compressor will turn on. But if you have a break in the solar lines, for instance, that can make it such that the unit doesn't come on. If that still doesn't help, email comfort@airspool.com.

      You need to do this quick, because if you don't, the refrigerant lines will have a negative pressure on them. So you want to stop at zero or near there. If the lines are negative pressure, it'll suck in moisture or whatever is in the air into them, and you don't want to have that.

    Thank you Dave , Todd and Crew, Purchasing the Airspool was a great investment, I'm already saving a bundle both electricity and gas utilities. So far, Haven't turned on the gas furnace using the Airspool to warm our home. During the late summer, Ran the Airspool to give our homes Central AC a break. Now, It's heating the home and using 1600 watt solar ground mount setup provides free heat during the day. What I'm doing, Because the cooling side of Airspool is 12,000 BTU and I believe the Heating side is 10,000 BTU. Our home is 1140 sq ft, In order to get the most efficiency out of the the unit during the cold season we only heat selected areas of the home during the night. This greatly helps the unit provide heat to the selected areas, During the night block off areas we do not want heat to enter. Another reason for purchasing the Airspool, To prepare in case the grid goes down for long periods. The Airspool can operate off a solar generator during the night and off solar panels during the day, I have solar generators and a large battery bank to operate the house off grid if needed, And off grid solar panels to charge the batteries. The Hybrid Airspool, Allows our family to live in comfort during both winter and summer months if the grid was to go down for long periods. Thank you Dave and Todd for the video, And your continuous help! Paul

You can force the unit into cool mode by putting a hairdryer on low warm setting and blow it onto the inside thermistor sensor (the one in the plastic tube). The unit thinks the room is roasting hot and the cooling mode kicks in. The high pressure (skinnier) line will start to frost up in cooling mode so you will know it is working.

    We have an exiting solar-panel system ($1.81/mo electric bill!!) and an existing mini-split system (two units, 15K and 12K)). The two units max out the outdoor unit so I'd like to put your system in my unheated/non-air conditioned shop space, about 450 s/f as a stand alone unit. How would I tie it into the existing solar panels? Also, does the outdoor unit have to sit on the ground or can it be easily placed on a flat roof? Thanks, ACJ in ABQ, NM.

    • @airspool
      @airspool 2 месяца назад

      Hi ACJ, so you have a choice to just plug into your home power, since you already have solar panels, or to plug three or four panels directly to our unit. The first option is good if you have excess capacity for what the solar is bringing in. That is, at the end of the year, and when you do your true up, how much extra kWh do you have a credit for with your utility? If you have to pay to true up, then for sure you want to add the solar panels directly to the Airspool. But if you have a good credit, then just plug in to any 110 volt outlet. Well, and the other advantage of having the solar panels tied directly into the Airspool is that the unit will run as long as it's sunny even if the power is out.

    • @christopherjames1590

      @@airspool Thanks for the quick reply. I will have to look at our electric bill, but I believe we have a substantial reserve to run the unit, even with the addition of the two-unit system last year. I would probably put in the 3 (or 4?) extra 380w panels regardless, or perhaps run it for a year and measure the result before I make that decision (though I'm afraid that given recent...um..."events") the price of solar panels is going to climb. Some add'l questions: 1. What is the order-->to-->delivery wait these days? Backlog? 2. My older home has 15 amp 110v circuits throughout. Does it need a 20 amp circuit and does either a 15 or 20 amp circuit need to be "dedicated" circuit for the unit? 3. All the videos I've seen have the outside unit sitting on the ground. Can it sit on the roof near the solar panels as well? Or can it be place in a shady (N facing) space? 3. As of November 26, 2024, what is the status Federal solar rebates? Do you expect that to change/disappear soon? I know it has changed some in the last couple of years. 4. What other discounts do you current have in-house? In case you can't tell , I'm very interested in this system. I will probably have other questions in the future before I take the plunge. May I call you folks directly to a sales rep with questions ? Thanks again, ACJ in ABQ, NM.

I've tested by pouring water into the drain pan of the bigger one and it flows into the main drain no issue too. You mentioned a shim to keep the unit flush - I did notice that the sealent that is on the back side of the panel has holes in it. Could you help me visualize what you did with the shim? Hoping it will help because I do have a trusted technician and he did all the standard cleaning and could not see any issues which makes me suspicious that this is a manufacturer/ installation issue like yours. My model is the mitsubishi heavy industries (which according to my technician is his least favorite to service, due to the inability of the model to be fully dismantlled). Thanks in advance.

      @@ryancheong9486 it's hard to explain. But you need a small piece of rubber pad or cardboard to put between the clip and the bracket so that the unit is flush against the wall (no gap) This will keep the unit upright as possible. I hate mini splits with a passion.

    Does it work in the night?

    • @airspool

      Yes, plug it into grid power for nighttime. The grid is your battery.

    Any chance you could do an instruction vid on setting one of these up on solar panels alone? (Or direct me to it if you already have)? Looking for a solution that doesn't require using up a battery that's going to have to be replaced every ~10 years (granted the rest of the equipment won't last forever either, but fewer pieces is music to my ears 🤣)

      You're looking at it. Just plug solar panels into this, and it will run whenever it's sunny. And grid power is our battery. So yes, if you want the unit to run at nighttime, just plug it into the grid. But grid connection is not required for it to run during the day.

    Why do you implement scale for temperature of the home using such an obscure metric? Just give temperature in Farenheit and let someone select the temperature. No one is going to understand that they keep their home at "1.02"

    Hi guys, great video. When extending the line set can you use mechanical fittings rather than welding? Do you have a video on extending line set, vac down and putting the gas back in the system?

    • @airspool
      @airspool 4 месяца назад

      We don't have a video for this one, but simply get all the refrigerant back into the compressor as shown here, and then unhook the existing line set and put in a longer line set or put in an extender. Then nitrogen pressure test the line, vacuum test the line, and then release the refrigerant.

    Was that 2 480 watt panels or 480 watts total for the 2 panels?

    Cool mode goals is to cool down the room to the temperature that you want. Dry mode will not control the temperature. The coil is cold with low fan speed to get water out of the air. So the room temperature might not cool down. Air conditioner is not designed to dry the air. It has poor performance. It’s better to install dehumidifier.

    Since the refrigerant is in the line sets, how does the disconnect and move work? Because they have to be moved as a set since the refrigerant is partially in both after the initial install? This type of connection looks good. All the best from north Texas.

    • @airspool
      @airspool 4 месяца назад

      Yes, right, just disconnect the quick connectors when you want to move, and the refrigerant stays in the indoor unit and the outdoor unit, and all of the line set. And then reconnect them again, and turn the unit back on at your new location, and you are good.

    Perplexity recommended this video and oh boy, you’ll never know if you have a refrigerant leak if you a. test for only a minute and b. Use the very inaccurate tank gauge as your indicator. If you’re here to learn, find a better source
