BADMINTON TIPS: SERVICE AND RETURN OF SERVE- Start your game strong whether serving or receiving

  • The service is the most important shot in badminton, and knowing how to strategize on how to do it to catch your opponent off-guard is the best way to start the game strong. Knowing how to receive the service is also important so you do not end up being on the defensive. In this video, Coach Kennie Asuncion gives some tips on how to start the game on the offensive.

    I am not playing these days due Knee injury and recovered all most. I like your video and would recommend others to follow your channel. What I learned with my recent injury, always do warm up at least for 10 minutes with stretches before you go to court. Keep drinking water. Never go for surgery, there are ways to fix it.

    This is really helpful! Especially the advice about looking at the opponent before receiving. Is he swaying back and forth? Is he in the middle? Is he in the front? Or is he slightly in the back? If he's slightly at the back, serve short. If he's at the front, serve short or long.

    this is interesting, badminton is taught by Philipino that usually has great basketball culture in SE asia. Meaning badminton gain its popularity these days. @coachkennieasuncion keep up the good work.

    • @CoachKennieAsuncion
      @CoachKennieAsuncion  4 года назад

      Thank you very much! Badminton popularity was at its peak in the Philippines at around 2005-2006 in fact, we held big tournaments such as mvp cup asia vs europe. That was the first time i saw a stadium packed with badminton fanatics (well, who wouldn’t want to see taufik, lin dan, nathan robertson, gail emms , kenneth jonassen and many more at that time). I was lucky to have been a player that time. I truly hope this decline in the present days can go back up so todays generation of Filipino badminton athletes can see and enjoy the sport at a high level. We have many good players these days in the country. They really just need more exposure and chances. 😁🏸 I hope badminton can peak in our country again and stay for good like our neighboring southeast asian countries😁😁🏸🏸

    Hi coach, I'm 6.1 tall doubles player. I used to do perfect short serves. From at least 6 months my serves clips the tape or either short just short. It was never too high fron the tape. My team mates says I'm taking less time before the serve. I'm not sure what happened to my services recently. 😢 Sometimes amazingly I can do the perfect service. I became inconsistent with the service which puts me to too much pressure especially at the last 5 points of the game. Please share some handy tips. By the way your videos are fantastic. I wish I had them 20 years ago 😍😍. Thanks in advance. Take care and stay safe. 🙏🙏

    • @CoachKennieAsuncion
      @CoachKennieAsuncion  4 года назад +5

      Hi! You mentioned your service used to be good and just right. My guess is when you started to do those bad serves, you started becoming panicky and didnt have confidence with it. Confidence has a lot to do with a great serve so change the mindset. If you were able to do it then you can definitely do it again with consistency. Do not pressure yourself unnecessarily. Ofcourse there will be days when your serve sucks but whats impt is you have a strong mind that reminds u that that is normal, it cannot be perfect all the time but on those days that they are not good the challenge is not to allow it to happen for the entire game. I believe you’ll get the great serves back! Stay confident!! You can do it!! .... By the way, thank you for letting me know my videos have been helpful. I only started doing them august of 2019 but i’ve been coaching for a very long time now... thank you! 😁🏸

    If someone is serving in doubles and the shuttle hits the opponents (not the receiver but the other one) head or face accidently, who wins the point? My major problem in double games is the act of communication with my partner, often a time I don't know maybe to be in the front or at the back. I have this personal belief that I can always pick the long shot at the back but times I do have issues managing my partner on which side of the court to stay. Any advice please 🙏?

      I have a video on doubles rotation which you can checkout. In doubles (even for
      Mixed doubles, u cannot assume a position or post bec ur better at it.) you could be there majority of the time but not all the time. There is such a rule as when the shuttle is lifted, you go side by side because if u stay front back both of you will have a hard time defending attacks. When i partner with new people whether they are better than me or vice versa i do a lot of shouting of mine and yours just so its clear if i’m taking it or letting my partner take it😁🏸

    I got smacked on my forehead once, didn't end well with former partner, doubles needs coordination, timing precision and balance

    I always miss the long serve return. Or else it goes to land in the middle of other court.

      If you have difficulty with the long serve position yourself more to the back to your closer to it but do it with small adjustments, not too obvious for your opponent to see u waiting at the back😁🏸
