Thank you for being down to earth and real! I have come across so many style videos that I swear are geared to only affluent women. The majority of us are middle income, carrying some extra pounds, struggling with menopause women. You give practical, doable solutions.
I'm an older British pensioner and agree with nearly everything you say in this video. I thank you for your honesty and humour in not promoting falsehoods.
Hi Cathy. I used to work with a gal whose perfume could knock you out. I dreaded being stuck in an elevator with her. I like to keep my nails a natural length and color. As usual, all of your tips are on point. I look forward to all of your content. I am now one month from my open heart surgery and, thankfully, feeling a little better. Thanks again for all of your hard work on Utube.
I have found one of the most important things you can do is stay at a healthy weight. Many women I know gain weight and slowly stop exercising. This can affect your health and also how you feel about yourself. So please girls, do not fall into the temptation of being older as an excuse for becoming overweight and unhealthy. Walk tall , wear a smile and be beautiful. Love to you all
I don't wear polish on my handnails, because I do so much work with my hands it doesn't last a day. But I do on toenails! First I do a foot treatment: seasalt and soda bicarbonate in warm water; scrub with a foit file; cut nails; wear socks for a while. Then clean the nails and apply base coat, 2 coats of polish; top coat. This lasts ar least 2 weeks. The current colour is a golden beige. My feet are tanned - I live in Sicily. Aged 71
A couple of years ago I was in the hospital for a heart catheterization, one of the nurses perfume was so strong that it caused me to have a coughing fit, which delayed my procedure. The doctor who was to perform the procedure, ordered the nurse out of the room and told her she could not work on any of his patients again, that she had been told before not to wear perfume in an operating theater.
Jeesh ! Used to be told no perfumes when working ! It never bothered me to go without, just shower, deodorant clean clothes, clean hair. I,'m a nurse too. Should apply to all workers period !
True! I follow a page called “Old School Cool” and it’s amazing how good the young starlets looked without falsies (post 1960’s). Sometimes less is more. I wear wispies on the outer corner with mascara over on special nights out.
You hit the nail on the head. I'd like to add one point: materials - never wear synthetics, especially polyester. It chokes your body and nature. Admittedly it's cheap, but it also looks like it and costs the planet dearly. It's supposed to be "carefree" but it is trouble for generations to come: They'll enjoy its impact on the environment zillions of years, because it's non-bio-degradable. No stylish woman will ever wear those harmful and unpleasant fabrics. Buy less, but class!!!
Thank you for mentioning perfume. I can't be around any scented anything. Not only will it bring on migraines, it also activates my sinuses (runny nose and congestion) and, makes me nauseous. Sadly, people take it personally. They're unaware that many of us are sensitive to scents.
Hi Cathy, you look great! I want to pass a tip along about hair and hair products. I was at a conference and saw a gorgeous over 60 lady with beautiful, gray, long curly hair. She said she uses humby bar shampoo and conditioner. A bar of shampoo has lasted over 3 months! The combination of the 2 has made my hair soft and slightly curly, with much else needed for hair products!
Hi Cathy, I haven't seen you in awhile, so it a pleasant surprise to see you. I agree, it doesn't take much to dress and look put together. It's worth it! Thank you for popping up today!
Hi Cathy, my wife subscribes to your channel. She does powdered nail polish. Her nails are perfect for 4-5 weeks. She loves it even more than gel. She learned to do by watching RUclips videos. I must say her nails always look perfect.
I do like a clean looking nail (like the Ballet Slippers) but it's not flattering on my skin tone. My hands look better with a dark shade, makes them look less wrinkled! Totally agree on all the points!
I started getting frizzy hair as I started getting more grays a few years ago. My hairdresser recommended hair oil. I comb that in before drying my hair and..no more frizz
Great video Cathy and as someone else mentioned on here, i am learning to stay away from patterns. I like stripes (bretton tops etc) but in anything else, although the patterns may look beautiful on the hanger, they just look very frumpy on me. 😊
you can get a gel lamp and accessories to use at home relatively cheaply to use with your gel polish...the lamp can help dry regular polish quicker too
A floral fragrance not only gives some of us instant headaches but i also have allergies so it can really affect me, please think about others I once had to sit next to a woman that used so much perfume i got a migraine and it also affected my young daughter.
On a recent flight, there was someone near me wearing a lot of cologne. I was glad to have a mask in my personal tote- it prevented a headache from the strong scent.😝
I also have thick (but stick straight) hair. Very little problems with frizzies until my hair turned gray. then it was frizz city! Specially around my face where it was white. I stumbled upon this product in the black hair care section. Found it at Walmart and its called Argan Oil of Morocco by OGX. it comes in a tiny little bottle, but you dont't need very much at a time. Put a scant drop on your hand, rub your hands together to warm the oil ,then rub into . freshly washed damp hair, leave in and style as usual. Worked for me as I only wash my hair every two or three days....if you wash it more often you might want to back off to every other time.
Thank you for the fragrance comment. Just instant headache for me. I use a lot of Clinique , and stay away from scented laundry soap. Most products now seem to have an unscented version so there must be lots of us out here.
May I add one more? Pet hair! Buy a lint brush (or several). I have 2 long hair cats and I have lint brushes squirreled all over - including the glove compartment.
No loud patterns, jungle prints or polyester. No big, bleached hair, false eyelashes, or clownish eye makeup. No clumpy shoes, or big handbags. Get the weight off, and keep it off. A French twist, or a classic bob hairdo. Simple hoop earrings. Stick to the classics, and study the classic designers. Ralph Lauren is a good place to start, and you can copy those looks for less.
I don’t know when it seemed to be acceptable for your bra straps to show. I’ve even seen actresses at functions with their bra straps showing. False eyelashes should just look like you have naturally long lashes. I was recently at a restaurant and the hostesses false eyelashes were frightening. A lot of these girls look like they have tarantulas on their faces.
I’m 46, but need to improve the way I dress. Thank you for the suggestions. I’m still wearing loud fragrances and makeup. I should probably tone it down some!
I have very thick, curly, course, frizzy hair. I use Marc Anthony leave in conditioner and curling cream and I just started using Aunt Jackie's Curl Boss gel. The gel is not sticky and it doesn't make your hair stiff. It prevents frizz. You can't even tell that you have it in your hair. It has coconut oil. Curly hair is dry. I also occasionally use a hair oil. I wash 2-3 times a week. I live in Ohio and our humidity is bad. All very affordable products found on Amazon. I hope that helps.
I enjoyed your video. Great tips we don’t always think about. Thank you for sharing. Great to see you smile and laugh. You’re a beautiful person. Hugs and blessings. 🤗
I grew up with an older mother, she was beautiful, but as she aged, she only wore lipstick her eyebrow pencil. She always taught me that when you’re young where as much as you want, but when you’re older, you can’t I don’t wear much makeup anymore just lipstick and I tried the new Jones Road moisture make up, I love their blush. Looks like you’re not wearing anything.
Carol's Daughter makes a very good leave in spray conditioner that you can get at Wal-Mart. But the Pureology Color Fanatic Leave-in Conditioner is amazing if you're willing to spend a little more
You’re so funny Cathy without trying to be🎉 I love Miss Dior perfume ❣️ I too have the dreaded frizzy hair😂 I use a fairly heavy conditioner after shampooing and leave it in while I bathe and shave my legs etc. I rinse good with cool water. This week I tried Fructis Intensely Smooth blow dry AND Fructis Sleek & Shine. Then I used my Revlon brush dryer ( lg pink dryer) And I believe it made some difference! I LOVE to do my own nails‼️ I have hard nails that grow fairly fast. I keep them a decent length but paint them according to the season. My hair and nails both grow fast. A lady in my Bible study group comes in and boy, you can smell her coming! Moderation ladies🎉 Hoping you have a great weekend Cathy❤
I have noticed very few people use a fragrance and I miss walking by someone and picking up a soft fragrance. To me it is sexy. Soft I said, not bathed in nasty fragrances. I hated 212 when I first spritzed it but within a few minutes it was the most delightful smell. Fitting clothing is harder for me now, I am between 2 sizes so it can be a challenge. Sizing up makes my neck and sleeve openings too big. I say ladies, do what feels right for you. Don't let someone else tell you what to do!
I discovered your channel only recently (note that you're in Ottawa, where I lived for 30 years!), but I am really enjoying your videos. Excellent advice for those of us 'ladies of a certain age'. I'm tired of videos that speak to older women but show only young models so thank you for your authenticity.
Do Not trim your cuticles. What’s being trimmed is living skin called the proximal nail fold. The cuticle is actually the dead skin cells that are stuck under the nail fold. The Salon Life on You Tube has great info.
Great tips! I appreciate your comment about fragrance. Wear it for yourself because trust me somebody who gets migraines - it all smells the same! Like little old lady drug store crap. I think it’s because we have a negative association. I have to choose aisle seats because of this. FWIW, real pure perfume is worth investing in as it’s the artificial crap ingredients that cause the problem). A LOT of people are sensitive so over sprayers, you are actually getting the opposite reaction of what you want. If you want to get noticed, wear a bright lipstick or cute hat. I had a Persian woman with long THICK hair swear by this product: “Suave Professionals anti frizz cream Sleek.” It smells good too….natural like kiwi & cantaloupe.
Hi Cathy, great advice I look forward to watching all your videos. That will teach your early riser neighbor to think twice before knocking on your door.🤣. My hair will do the same thing and I live in Florida 👯♀️
Thankyou Cathy for another great video, I too think nails look more natural when shorter..😊 some very good advice here 😊 thanks yet again for sharing your tips. ❤😊
I like to let my hair air dry then curl it with a curling brush. I spray John Freida Anti-Frizz after I wash my hair, and it is frizzy until I curl it, then it feels soft and has a shine.
I found a lotion ages ago I loved. It was called rapture from Victoria Secret..it was a soft floral scent. A little went a long way. I used it sparingly on my elbow and knee that was it. People would come up and sniff and ask what I was wearing lol. Sadly, I know longer can get it. Another thing about perfumes and colognes..women and men’s for that matter..if you work in a restaurant..please don’t wear it to work. That smell will get into to flavor of foods..had a steak dinner ruined because of that. My steak tasted like axe cologne..it was horrible lol. My husband had fish and it too tasted like axe cologne lol I laugh now but it was a horrible experience.
This was great! I liked the common sense information as well as the different lighting and background. It came across as more professionally done. You looked wonderful as always.🌷
Thank you for your info. I already follow alot of them. I am unable to find a big enough body shapers to fit my plus size figure. The last time I wore one at my daughtersbwedding I went to ladies restroom to take it off. I hated that it was do uncomfortable!!❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😢😢😢
I watch some women on RUclips who spray so much perfume on themselves that it’s not perfume it’s fumigation. I would never want to be in the same room with them. Some also spray it on their hair then complain about dry hair and breakage. Well dah.
Good tips, because who wants to look cheap?! Some things you mention are things we could overlook or think we just don't have time, but they are easy fixes with little effort. Those long nails.... just don't get it at all. Like you said, how do you function with those things? Funny story about your neighbor!! Anyway, thank you for the reminders!
I use a product by Redkin for my wild naturally curly hair. As I have gotten older (age 70), my hair has become drier and more frizzy. At first, I didn't know what to do with my changing hair. I have found that Redkin has a product called "frizze dismiss". It has done wonders for my hair.
Hi Cathy I am really enjoying your video and they are very helpful and I am so glad that you are doing this with us as they are helping me to have more confidence in my self and try different things thanks again for taking the time to share your video xxx
Hello, I totally agree with your tips. I would love to wear just studs diamonds or pearls but I have 2 piercings. What are your thoughts on leaving holes empty? Do you think that looks unfinished? Thanx
What about wearing tiny studs in the second holes? For example, pearl studs in the main holes and teeny cz or diamond studs, or tiny gold studs, in the second holes. I think that looks subtle and elegant.
Going to ask my kids if I overdo with perfume. I sweat too much for makeup. Makes me sad since I just changed several beauty products (at great cost) finding the best for my age. I also got rid of a lot of jewelry and clothes. I like a nice purse instead.
Excellent tips! When I get gel polish I like to pick soft pink or natural colours like you showed because the new growth or any chips won’t show so much, and it looks quite elegant and goes well with anything. I also use the WOW stuff on my hair or I’d be a fright - had to laugh at your anecdote 😂😂😂

I'm keeping you in my prayers Gina! One day at a time! xoxo
I wish you a speedy recovery!
There was a perfume era when lots of gals used too much. I think it was in the nineties.
I have found one of the most important things you can do is stay at a

This can affect your health and also how you feel about yourself. So please

I'm tired of videos that speak to older women but show only young models so thank you for your authenticity.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you soooo much
You're welcome!
Great tips and ideas! Glad im not the only one who gets scary frizzy hair lol
Do Not trim your cuticles. What’s being trimmed is living skin called the proximal nail fold. The cuticle is actually the dead skin cells that are stuck under the nail fold. The Salon Life on You Tube has great info.
i use body sprays instead of perfumes...way less strong and you can often get the spray version of popular perfumes
Great tips, Cathy. It really is important to simplify as you age. Less is definitely more!
I had a Persian woman with long THICK hair swear by this product: “Suave Professionals anti frizz cream Sleek.” It smells good too….natural like kiwi & cantaloupe.
missed you lately. good to see you
I like Kristin Ess's Curl Cream, which seems to tame the frizz. I get it at Target.
😊🎉❤You are always sweet & fun!! I have grey frizz so must try the products your viewers suggested!! Always enjoy your videos!!
Thank you so much!!
Great video! I really like your content and presentation. Always topics of interest. 🤗🤗🤗
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Hi Cathy, great advice
I look forward to watching all your videos. That will teach your early riser neighbor to think twice before knocking on your door.🤣. My hair will do the same thing and I live in Florida 👯♀️
Enjoy watching your videos. I have learned many good tips on styling and beauty. Along with a friendship I am thankful for
Thank you so much! I feel the same way. 💖
Useful; good content.
I have been wearing CALVIN KLIENS Eternity perfume. I think k it is nice for everyday wear.
Very practical and doable tips! Thank you! I'm 59.
Glad it was helpful!
Its red nails and lipstick for me because i can pull it off. Im a throw back to the 1940s.
This was great! I liked the common sense information as well as the different lighting and background. It came across as more professionally done. You looked wonderful as always.🌷
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well dah.
Loreal True Match foundation sooo sheer
Chipped nail polish 😱😱. I just can’t …….
Hi Cathy I am really enjoying your video and they are very helpful and I am so glad that you are doing this with us as they are helping me to have more confidence in my self and try different things thanks again for taking the time to share your video xxx
My pleasure Alana! Thank you for always watching and being so supportive! 💖
Ruth here, it is also strong smelled of laundry detergents
It's poisonous for many. They cough, almost choke, get dizzy and have to puke.
Hello,
I totally agree with your tips. I would love to wear just studs diamonds or pearls but I have 2 piercings. What are your thoughts on leaving holes empty? Do you think that looks unfinished? Thanx
I think what makes you feel good is most important. I'm not sure that I would even notice the holes if left empty.
What about wearing tiny studs in the second holes? For example, pearl studs in the main holes and teeny cz or diamond studs, or tiny gold studs, in the second holes. I think that looks subtle and elegant.
I don’t think perfume should be allowed anywhere. I had my workplace put in a policy for a no scent zone.
Going to ask my kids if I overdo with perfume. I sweat too much for makeup. Makes me sad since I just changed several beauty products (at great cost) finding the best for my age. I also got rid of a lot of jewelry and clothes. I like a nice purse instead.
Agree with all you said. As I age, I need more antifrizz products.
I am 54 and I break some of these but this is great advise ☺
Excellent tips! When I get gel polish I like to pick soft pink or natural colours like you showed because the new growth or any chips won’t show so much, and it looks quite elegant and goes well with anything. I also use the WOW stuff on my hair or I’d be a fright - had to laugh at your anecdote 😂😂😂
Thanks Patricia! 💖
