I shot a mate in experimental with the crossbow when I told him to meet up and he was walkin with a random he made friends with and I just hear him say I used to be a survivor like you but than I took a crossbow bolt to the knee so it already happend 😂
I’ve watched other videos about the crossbow before you released yours and I just gotta say well done. Your videos are always by far the most informative and more importantly they are actually fun to watch, you don’t have to force yourself to get to the information and YOU ACTUALLY SHOW REAL STATS not just “That put me to yellow” “that put me to red”.
Can confirm that the crossbow is EXTREMELY GOOD for killing players IF you 1. have good aim and 2. understand the playstyle required for the weapon being Shoot/Kill > Run/Reload > Reposition/Flank > Shoot/Kill > Rinse and Repeat. I personally after some practise on a deathmatch server went onto a vanilla 1PP server and hit an insane 17 killstreak over 6 hours on a 60/60 pop server with the crossbow paired with proper hunting bolts + Baraka Red Dot + Nightvision. Personally its the ultimate stalker weapon when combined with NVG's and a Ghillie Suit during the night. Your impossible to track, Impossible to see, and if you have good game sense and decision making combined with good angles.... Its almost impossible to die. Happy Hunting

Hust glad the servers i like make sure to have spawn rates and locations for items such as epoxy close to certain wooded areas. Theres also a variety of industrial areas that are not near popular base locations that spawn that type of stuff regardless of whether youre vanilla or not

I use dayz in livonia to hunt elks and deers or wild boars in the middle of an apocalypse! Its so chill and thrilling. I just wanted to say thank you for all you do and keeping me and everyone else up to date!
Hopefully this means we might still get crafted long bows and hunting ones in the future. While they don't have the stopping power a crossbow has, they make up for in range.
Your comment makes no sense at all. The record for the longest shot with a crossbow is 600m more than the longest shot record for a bow. The main difference is that the power stroke on a crossbow is shorter so the crossbow needs to have a greater draw power to get the same range. So a fairly heavy 1350 grain bolt would need a 1200lb draw weight crossbow to equal the range of a 1350 grain arrow fired from a 150lb draw weight long bow. To be clear crossbows have greater range potential because they have greater power potential.... You don't increase range by reducing the energy imparted to the object you are propelling....
I would use Poxy on the crossbow if you want to keep using it. I've found it's pretty hard to find on official servers so I'd repair instead of relying on finding another 👍

People always joke that you have to look over your shoulder when new or old weapons come to DayZ but this time I can't stress how important this saying is when the Crossbow is back anytime, quite honestly you have to evolve so you have eyes in the neck otherwise you will see "You're dead" almost all the time.
I was getting shot at with bolts a couple days ago, couldn’t hear anything except the bolts landing and couldn’t find the shooter. It was terrifying. Couldn’t drop the feeling of being watched that whole night

Having a 40mm grenade up top should not be allowed to work, not just by weight but also a 40mm grenade does have internal mechanics to arm them after about 40 meters in flight due to the rotations it makes. Would be cool to make poison/serrated arrows/bolts
Very likely the 3rd improvised bolt will follow the same crafting logic we saw way back in v0.63 when we had archery. That said, combining a bone with the feathered bolt will let you create a bone bolt, much like the beloved bone arrow we used to have. Back in the day, our arrows were: Improvised arrow (basically a sharpened short stick), Feathered improvised arrow (add chicken feathers), Bone arrow (add a bone arrowhead to the feathered arrow), And finally, the composite arrow. We did have the crossbow back then, but few people ever actually used it because you had to find crossbow bolts, it was super slow to use without the bolt quiver (attachment), and you couldn't craft ammunition for it. I'm very excited that not only do we have the crossbow back, but the fact we can make ammo for it is very promising that we may finally see soon once again, the improvised bow return. I do know they plan to add a PVC improvised bow in addition to the wooden one, AND, they have a beautiful model of what looks to be a fiberglass or laminated recurve bow. I've been waiting so many years for the return of archery. Archery isn't as cool to most people as guns, but holy crap, archery in a survival setting is insanely useful, even OP. People would use it to do trick shots to kill staircase campers at the NWAF. Shoot from far back through the window, and headshot the camper using indirect fire. Seriously useful!
I think it would be cool if you could craft 5 bolts at once. Simply just add a feature where it takes as long as crafting 5 would so you don't have to mess around dragging sticks to your knife over and over. Wouldnt change anything but would be a nice quality of life addition. Also would be cool if I could actually attach some arrows to the front of the crossbow like some crossbows allow.
the servers I play you can craft 5 at a time and there are 2 quivers. 1 attaches to the belt and contains around 20 bolts the other attaches directly to the crossbow and carries 5.
I really hope they can make removing the bolts from yourself or others possible without death before official launch. Almost all parts are working but that one is a pretty big one, dont get me wrong it would be cool to track down a guy you recently shot with an arrow, but if he gets away he deserves to remove it in a timey craft like process. Also if someones gun is hit or their hand or forearm it can become a permanent visual handicap while trying to aim

Night vision on a crossbow sounds so fucking dumb yet i cant wait to try it. Imagine not hearing where you get shot from, not seeing where you get shot from, and all the time youre just in a bush like 40m away
Not that i would actually want this but if you got hit with a hunting arrow you should get 2 bleeds if you got hit in the arm or leg because those things are brutal compared to a regular bullet.
I’ve really enjoyed messing with the crossbow it’s awesome for early game zombie killing. I wish you didn’t have to separately sharpen short sticks into arrows. It takes too long and ruins knives too quickly. If you were cutting or even breaking the stick it would have a pointy end already.
Here's my take on this get yourself an MK2 it's a internally suppressed pistol that shoots 22lr. It is so quiet you aren't gonna agro every zombie around you. Strong enough bullet to one shot zombies without helmets. That's it's only downside with it being 22lr. It doesn't do great against wolves or heavy zombies but for stealth killing zombies and moving around. Mk2 is superior. You find one box of ammo and you now have 50 shots at zombies. Mags and ammo are easy to find. When you damage it you don't have to repair your suppressor and gun. Only the pistol
I think it will be matter of preference. The crossbow take a lot of space in the inventory, but you can hunt in perfect silence with it. + if a player stand still in a bush, you can kill him in one shot without making any noise
It can't be right that deer can't be one-shotted with a crossbow, I definitely did that with a steel bolt @ what I think was around 30m. About a week ago on experimental. Although other times I have tried to shoot deer only to have them run away, but that was at greater distances.
Wonder if we can get some engine goodies from Reforger into DayZ SA, or if DayZ mod on Reforger is the only way. I would be ok with having DayZ 2 on Reforger engine and pay for it. But no early access this time.
Very informative, however I'm going for a friendly hunter build,have got two nights in on my character and have an atog scope.i can aim at a z's head at about 10 metres without scope and get a kill however when using the scope it seems my shots are going over the head I've tried changing the range to 75 and 100 and guessing that's making it worse .am I supposed to be aiming lower down with the yellow chevron marker?(currently Xbox one) thanks in advance for any info given
Im curios how the target cam interact with the bolts. Wjen you get a bolt stuck into you, can you remove it yourself? Will it just be in the vicinity in the inventory? It is a "hold MB1" action like bandaging? Does it automatically drop when bandaging? Not all hits cause bleeds, so it probably wont be tied to bandaging at all. Will there be a health or blood deficit if you leave the bolt in? Does it despawn from your body? Is it also affected by the 6 second time limit for projectiles?
I’d like to be able to sharpen sticks into arrows by rubbing them on the paved roads. And should be able to make fletchings out of duct tape instead of just feathers
Its a shame you cant duct tape ammo onto the end of bolts just like you can in real life to make a pretty loud pop at a distance, would be great for creating distractions or drawing attention to specific locations. Who knows maybe we could in the future with the payoff of severely damaging or destroying the bolt. Making improvised explosive bolts would be pretty good too though im sure a few other items would have to be added into the game to make it viable

I tried it out on experimental (Xbox) and you can’t retrieve the bolts from zombies.. I tried a head shot first, then torso, then limbs, and wasn’t able to get none of the bolts back.. But you can get em out of walls and stuff like that.. Hopefully they fix it!

Probably not, as an arrow counts as a projectile and all projectiles get deleted after 6 seconds of flight

I just put bunch of short sticks in one place, move little bit away with a knife in my hand, aim and create.

maybe u did hit the double hitbox (heart from side region). does some kinda double damage to deer.

And should be able to make fletchings out of duct tape instead of just feathers

In the console dayz the crossbow is 45 damn slots for some reason, idk how that happend
Its a shame you cant duct tape ammo onto the end of bolts just like you can in real life to make a pretty loud pop at a distance, would be great for creating distractions or drawing attention to specific locations.
Who knows maybe we could in the future with the payoff of severely damaging or destroying the bolt.
Making improvised explosive bolts would be pretty good too though im sure a few other items would have to be added into the game to make it viable

lmao that defeats the object of having a stealthy yet balanced weapon ,btw just putting a slug on the end of an arrow would have as much effect as new years banger

yea we used to have it, only reason they won’t add it now is because they have to reanimate it and they aren’t doing that right now

Can you ruin an airborne bolt by shooting at it?
I tried it out on experimental (Xbox) and you can’t retrieve the bolts from zombies.. I tried a head shot first, then torso, then limbs, and wasn’t able to get none of the bolts back.. But you can get em out of walls and stuff like that.. Hopefully they fix it!
Yes its still borken, on PC version too. Thats probably why WOBO will talk about that in a later video. He is waiting for the next experimental update
