- This week's episode of Watches in the Wild: Paris is all about jewelry design and watch design cross-pollination. Because, dear readers (viewers), I am on a mission to prove that watch design doesn't always have to be so predictable.
In episode two we meet up with jewelry designers Nadine Ghosn and Charlotte Chesnais to discuss the untapped potential of enlisting fashion and jewelry experts in the watch space. The enormous success of Carolina Bucci for Audemars Piguet, for example, is proof that there can be a successful dialogue between creative spaces.

I never write comments. I am oldschool Hodinkee fan. I am a military & tool-watch guy.
I absolutely enjoyed this and the first episode. Such a good vibe, interesting insights and fresh takes on an industry that can be quite stand-off-ish and old fashioned.
It definitely feels fresh. And we actually get to see stuff! Too many watch channels that are more about the host talking rather than showcasing watches.
It’s because you are an open minded person willing to try new things. Don’t bring those horrible ideas around here. 😀
Regarding the point about unusually shaped watches: Patek Philippe models by Gilbert Albert have some remarkable shapes. Learnt that from Roni’s collection
20:37 " you cannot just replicate what you did in the past".
One month later: "well I guess you can"
Seeing some hate in the comments but I was surprised how much I like this series. Admit it or not, watches are jewelry, and the types of precious metal/form-forward watches she is looking at in these episodes are sought after by many collectors. Might not be my primary interest, but still interesting!
Enjoyed this episode and learning about people like Nadine and Carolina. Keep up the variety in content!
That’s Carlos ghosn’s daughter right ?
Yeah and I'm sure she's had to work hard to earn her place in life... no family money to fall back on!
Ep. 3 Daniel Wellington Soecial ?
The Piaget he wears on his wrist at the end is absolutely amazing! What a dial. So thin and this gold case and bracelet wow
Fashion industry moves at a fast pace compared to watches, AND accounts for about 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
You mean clothing? We should walk naked then?
@@monjet1801 No I don't mean clothing. I meant fashion which takes pride in moving fast and changing it up every season for the sake of itself.
Spot on. It’s called fast fashion. It’s a cash cow. Cheaper to make and even easier to discard. And the consumer cycle repeats. Think Swatch and their collabs with Omega and Blancpain.
Nobody cares.
@@jonathanwright8802 Sadly, that's a fact.
The presenter is like so Chloe Sevigny LA girl like, like
I agree, and it’s so off putting.
I think people are being a bit harsh. This a nice interesting look at watches from a fashion point of view rather than horological. Which is completely fine. It's nice to see watches from a different point of view. People love things for different reasons. Well done for being brave.
Hopefully we'll lose the losers who've clearly had their nerves shaken by you guys doing something a little bit different. Someone should tell them don't need to watch it if they don't want to! I enjoyed this episode very much, good series!
So refreshing!! And so well done & edited. Malaika is a fantastic host.
I can appreciate the alternative view of watches and fashion and the various overlapping ntersections therein but I also can't tolerate the general demeanor and opinions of the typical silver spoon-fed fashionistas.
Fantastic video! The host is great. She adds valuable commentary, knows what questions and reactions to elicit the rest responses from the interviewee. Dare I also say astonishingly beautiful?
great show ! can't wait for part 3 !
Great video 💯
Piaget was founded not in 1847 but *1874* and has therefore been 'in the business' not for 170 years but for *150* years, hence the current anniversary celebrations. Not the most watertight journalism on display here...
Simply wonderful!
Great piece. I like seeing the ladies showing off their favorites and why.
yes more of this!!!! love this!!!
Think this series is going to go down as one of the most essential Hodinkee has ever done. You can tell by the commenters having an identity crisis in realizing that are not only watch collectors jewelry enthusiasts but also fashion enthusiasts. This logic is unavoidable, and this will be more obvious in the future.
How’s watch theft in Paris these days ?
I miss the old talking watches 😢
Nadine’s AP is crazy
I lived near Paris for several years but never visited. I regret that error…
Uff personally I hated Paris, if you want fashion and watches I think Milano is a better place
Watches and fashion. Uh huh.
A few interesting insights, but I am struggling to ascertain exactly what I am supposed to learn here. The frequent vocal fry is also distracting. Sorry if this sounds mean, but I think it detracts from the presentation.
What's vocal fry?
It is when people tend to make a croaking sound at the end of words and sentences.@@xu10j4rs1
Thanks for the cool hangout vid, the Piaget designs are luscious.
Look forward to seeing the Flea market.
❤
nice production
I like how she styled the palace shorts.
Another great episode 👍🏼
Absolutely love this edition of watches in the wild. I never tried to understand fashion industry and it all seemed silly to me, but explaining it through watches seems to work!
Great video!
Great content with an interesting point of view that many watch enthusiasts don’t normally take the time to appreciate. Not all watches have to be my taste, but it is good for the industry and for consumers to have multiple influences for watch designs. Many of us enjoy watch details beyond the specifications that are due thanks to the design and fashion creatives.
Would love more watches/fashion related content..I tend to look for a good value in a watch spec wise, so avoid so called fashion watches..but when buying also thinking how does a certain watch fit my lifestyle and wardrobe, after all, it is an accessorie..don't want to get something hyped out or great on paper but not wearing it because it rarely goes well with anything..would love if reviewers implemented some of that
She’s deep into the watch thing….. ha ha ha. Nice moonswatch toy
Excellent Malaika!
What is this? Teen Style Magazine. LVMH just made Hodinkee a fashion magazine that sells watches. 😂😢
Where are all the fake positive comments from the previous Paris vid? Couldn't organise it for this one or didn't bother? 🤣
Oh, golly gosh - how amazing! A real breath of fresh air! How's that? 😆
Looks like there is loads of positive comments, not sure what you're on about 🤦🏼
Sigh. I think I speak for 96% of us when I say that I miss Jack Forster so much.
Agree. Hodinkee is trying to sell us what we don’t want to buy.
That percentage might be conservative
I think jack would love this vid. I remember him sharing how much he learnt from Jewlrey experts when he had to be a judge

Who's that
😴
I enjoy seeing and hearing about womens watches. Got my wife A Lange and I love to see women branch out and not just wear Rolex’s.
However that transatlantic accent. It’s distracting af.
Great video. Don’t listen to the haters, keep it up this is great stuff.
No, definitely listen!
Nice work, keep going.😊 I cannot help but to notice so many snobs and insecure men in the comments, it’s unbelievable… get over yourself and let us enjoy the video without your whining.
To all you watch snobs freaking out...a lot of people enjoy watches for all kinds of reasons. Including young people. And women. Gasp! Get it over. Just because it's not for you does not mean it's not high quality thoughtful content.
this is great. i genuinely believe the watch industry will be much more interesting, embracing fashion head-on. The cosplay "tool watch" marketing is srsly nauseating at this point, and I when see another dive watch strapped to a generic scuba diver in a generic ocean being generically macho, im immediately turned off. I want interesting case shapes and ways to tell the time!
Yep just what we need. Watch trends that change every season so people can rush off and spend $10k twice a year to keep up with the Jones and fast fashion. This season neo vintage Piaget, in the fall Bulgari. It makes collecting gross.
Hodinkee, what the hell are you doing?
Alright Keith settle down, we get it, you're too much of a big strong man for this 😂
Horrible
Simple minds who just want to hear the same boring stories again and again with no culture or understanding of how design and style have made watches what they are today will hate
😂
Love the way the presenter talks
The accent is nice but the vocal fry is a lot.
