Hi Alice, I've been to Paris multiple times and although there are some very well dressed ladies out there, the vast majority do not wear designer brands and are rich. So when you say Parisiens, it sounds as if the entire population of Paris, are top rich and sophisticated. It is not the case! I found that people in Milan and Florence actually dress much better than people in Paris and as well are not so rude and snobby!
Tourists don't visit Paris for the French people. That's for sure. They tend to think that people want to look "Parisian" or "French" when shopping but people just want to buy what works for them back in their hometown. Yes, rude & snobby is true.
Well I have a Jessica Simpson purse and matching wallet in every color 😂 they were buy 2 get one Free....No but honestly to each his own, and f.y.i don't nobody wanna be a Parisian , not all but most are rude and snooty and that to me shows no class.
mmm...nice video summarizing Parisian opinion. As a German Indian living 3 hrs frm Paris, I visit Paris frequently and I am yet to see fashionable people the way RUclips videos portray. They are just like us here in Germany. Very low key and in fact not well dressed enough except for the tiktokers, youtubers and instagrammers near touristy spots. The general mass dress to kinda to blend in with the industrial lifestyle and weather. Chanel and Dior are quite boring and cater to boring chicness that some of us seek. But I do love Gucci and Versace for the loudness and vibrance. These brands depict more of Southern European culture which is usually colorful. Think of Sicily and Amalfi beaches and their weather and then think of Gucci and Versace. It will resonate then. All these brands are good and chic and it depends in the end on how we carry them.
The choice or designer is largely based on your own cultural preferences as well. As someone with an Indian background of course it's more likely you like vibrance and colourful as many Africans would (I'm Ghanaian). Of course there'll always be exceptions but it's true
a friend gave me the large LV bucket bag about 25 years ago. i used it for everything, including carrying gallons of paint, while decorating my moms house. seriously, it held up like a champ. still, logo anything i would not buy for myself, either high or low price. quality as she said, is #1 for me. and fantastic quality can easily be had for a 1/4 the price of most 'designer' brands.
I got gifted an LV bag but actually hardly wore it as everyone was walking around with them and I like to be original. So the monogram is a no for me but as you say, it cannot be said that they're bad quality. I think Chanel is currently much worse.
I lived in Europe for several years and I found it interesting that the French snubbed the Italian brands and the Italians snubbed the French brands 😂.
It is funny because both have the same standards for quality, workmanship and luxury. I just spent a month in Salerno, Italy and I saw a lot of very well dressed and elegant women and none had logos plastered all overthemselves. The only time I wore a brand was when Gloria Vanderbilt came out with jeans in the 80's and they were the ones that fit me best. I had one, ONE pair.
@@Papeeshka And if people only knew a lot of the popular styles of LV are actually made in the USA!!!! The skins of the bag are shipped flat and cut and then they are stitched together in the USA- the tag inside will actually say USA!!! Buyer be ware!!!
@@Papeeshka You destroyed your great American brands. For example when Henri Bendel was bought by another big american corporation just to be shut down I was outraged. Henri Bendel is older than Chanel and their quality was superior, so instead of making them big, fellow Ameicans destroyed them. What other example : Victoria Secrets?! The entier planet was itching to get Victoria Secrets and suddenly they become very expensive. Now you enter a VS store , it is worse than Walmart. Kate Spade ?! Selling plasticoliscious thingies. Ralph Lauren having the quality of H&M. Even Starbucks is a joke. Greed is what happened.
My daughter loves the LV canvas. I explained to her it is made the same way my picnic table cloth is- cotton fabric with a design stamped on it then covered with a polyvinyl coating. Then you pay thousands of dollars for that with a thin, cheap leather trim. Basically, that’s what all canvas bags are made of no matter what the brand is. Silly to pay all that money for any of them.
I got a LV Never full bag as a gift from my Mom around 8 years ago. I abused the heck out of it, and it still looks brand new (minus the dark coloring on the handles). So it’s not about logos but also quality. I still love that bag and it’s my everyday errand/travel bag.
For your information, Ladurée macarons are manufactured in Switzerland, in the Gruyère region, which is not really outsourcing to a cheap labour country. Anyway, I'm a Parisian, and, yes, I buy macarons at Ladurée from time to time. They are still among the best in Paris, even if I prefer Sadaharu Aoki's macaron.
Laduree macarons were made in France since the beginning. Laduree open a factory in Switzerland some 10 years ago. This factory must provided the export orders. 2 years ago the firm decided to have one production site , so now macarons are made in Switzerland with - of course - the same recipe …
I just purchased a mid ranged vintage bag - a rare issue by Coach circa 1980s that was made in the USA. The stitching and finishing is impeccable and it has no logo.
Not surprised. The reason why I buy vintage. Quality was here by that time. Some pieces are IMPECCABLE 20 years after. It was luxury. Same thing with perfume btw
@@sofyameytus710 So you will love this channel and the perfume I review here. I used to wear Jacques fath by Jacques Fath which I discover 8- 9 years ago at Jacqueline perfumery in San Francisco. I am looking for a bottle because it is discontinued
I wish you made this video about things that you as a Parisian women like and dislike, instead of making yourself the one representative for all Parisian women…im sure there are many Parisian women that love LV…lets not put ourselves on a pedestal darling 🌸
So 98 % of videos of RUclips are irrelevant because they generalizing. Again, when out in Galerie Lafayette for errands this afternoon, only people wearing Gucci and LV were tourists !!! I should have taken photos! I am 100 % legit than some women on RUclips teaching you « the Parisian style » while they are not even French or living in Paris…..so wtf are they talking about!? Are you posting the same comment?
I agreed with everything you said here and I live in Canada. I’ve always felt people who purchased items that were monogrammed were buying these items more to show off how much they paid for an item instead of the the true quality behind their purchase. Also I work in the wine industry and Moët & Chandon is known to use much more pesticides in their vineyards to produce higher yields which in turn produces lower quality products with exceptions such as their higher end cuvées. I’ll take Bollinger, Taittinger, Pol Roger any day before the mass produced Moët & Chandon.
I was never into monogram/logo stuff. But now I live in a small city in Austria-the hometown of Hitler no less-and having obviously recognizable brands, one gets better service and face less racism. I hate that I need to do this, as my personal style used to be more like what you show on your channel and even have owned some before, but one has to kind of adopt to make things easier.
Just back from a 21 day trip to Paris and your video is so validating - I detest some of the brands you mentioned at the start of the video.... I totally trust the Parisian aesthetic - you all have a cultural memory that goes back centuries - I didn't realize how influenced I have been especially during my growing up in Ireland by French culture. What a relief! Yes you Parisians are totally intimidating to those of us with standards,,,,, I think of French culture as the soul of Europe. I am so glad you have a channel. G
Hello!🌸 I am new here and I am happy to hear that I am not alone in this battle. 😊 I never liked to be a free walking commercial for different brands. All my life I thought that it's very tacky. I really like a new wave of totally opposite to tastles brand marketing- "the quiet luxury". When you have no brand names whatsoever, it's more like "If you know-you know". 👸 Being from Scandinavia where everything is all about the minimalism I really appreciate that. ❤ Kind regards from Sweden! 😊
I agree. I’ve always thought walking around with logos on handbags, clothes, jewelry, etc, was tacky. It’s like you’re wearing advertising. Just add flashing neon lights and you’ll complete the look!
Saying that Gucci is cheap is an insult. By the way Italian women and men with taste will buy Gucci, you might not like some products but this brand is luxury personified. In general the best craftmanship in fashion and everything else is made in Italy. I agree with the fact that showing logos is tacky but I know many Parisians who still do that and do not care,I live in Milan and travel to Paris often for work and true Parisians do not follow rules they just dress like they want to dress. No offence but Italians know about style, always has been and always will be
Hello thanks for your comment. “Made in Italy” today has nothing to do with the handmade in Italy 20 years ago. It is made in Eastern country or Romanian people in Italy in cheap factories. I loved vintage Gucci and Gianni Versace but 20 years ago. Like many mainstream “luxury” brands today, nothing is handmade like it used to be. People are simply not aware of what they are buying. I am not speaking for myself only. I live in Paris, if you ask in the streets to a Parisian, you will get the same answer. I love Italian style usually but the old vibe, meaning sartorial and suits.
I’m sorry, but Goyard is the opposite of “edgy”. It’s about as preppy as you can get. And you said Parisians think monogram looks cheap, but you yourself wear Faure La Page and Goyard, both of which plaster their products with monograms
hello thanks for your comment. yes about goyard that's why I said that I prefer Faure le Page over Goyard because it's more edgy. although parisian wear Goyard also and they like it. Concerning monogram, there is a huge difference in the design between LV and FLP and Goyard. There is no brand logo all over the bags on Faure le Page and goyard while the logo is omnipresent on LV. When I say monogram I mean more logo. If there is a logo on Faure le Page it is very discreet. Nothing to compare with LV
I can't handle any logos/branding whatsoever. I used to love the Isabel Marant Nessah bags until they started plastering her name on the straps. So tacky! Goyard seems to have fallen from grace the moment Emily Weiss showed off her personalized pouch in a glossier video a few years back. I see all sorts of trendy suburban soccer moms carrying Goyard these days. Decidedly uncool.
@@peachpathfinder totally agree. That’s why I buy and love Faure Le Page for that reason.. also still family owned brand so no LVMH. But Parisian still like to buy Goyard…
@@Aliceinparisofficial I understand that those two are special heritage brands. And while I don't usually like branding, the Faure le Page print in particular is very nice. I love how yours has the holster! The only logos I don't mind and actually like are the Fred Perry laurel wreath and the Mulberry tree. For Mulberry I prefer the more understated bags such as the first iteration of the Bryn (it has a '60s mod feel) - not the more recent one with less nice handle) and the Suffolk. I really like Clare V bags because they don't have any branding and the leather is supple for the price point.
I have a cousin who lives in Paris and his wife is French. When I was visiting them, she carried a Louis Vuitton bag a couple of days when we were out and about. I enjoyed this video very much but do think style is personal.
Yr cousin wasn't born in Paris though, was he?! You know?!🤭💜 🙏💜🇬🇧💜 You mustn't mind too much sweetie - they're terrible snobs, they believe it is "having standards" (My Aunt, a wonderful Scottish/English lady thought exactly the same - it doesn't hv to be unkind but some Parisians can be that way hopeful you meet the nice ones, mostly)🙏💜🇬🇧💜
It's all about personal preference. I do not stick with one designer and I don't really care if Parisians like it or not. It's important that I like it. My Parisian girlfriend likes Hermes but Hermes just never does anything for me. On top of that their pricing is off the chart.
Hello Alice, i appreciate the video. I am a French lady who left France 25 years ago. To my not parisian eyes, a bag with a firearm symbol on it is so tacky and unlady like. To my view, the real chic is a bag with no symbol or logo whatsover.. If this now Paris chic and snob standard, well i am glad i left...😅. again thanks for the good content. Keep them coming
What I find most French about your video is your tenacity to defend your argument and state facts to support your argument in the comments. I am American but French decent and can relate to a detest for gauche labels, a love of quality in product and in argument. Too many people are swayed by mass opinions these days. You have a new subscriber. 😊
Hello thank you !!! This Channel is not dedicated for mass market. I do not represent the street but I what I said in this video is 100 % true supported by FACTS. When stopping at Galerie yesterday I saw people wearing LV and…. Gucci shoes. Guess what ??? They were ALL tourists!!!! Wanted to take picture …..
😮 it seem you don't support the mass products that make Paris so Popular. Very typical. Almost everyone doesn't like to be just common people, instead want to be more unique/distinguished, special. 😁😁
This channel is dedicated to the true Parisian lifestyle. I am not representing the street. I buy vintage usually and yes Parisian are not fan of mass market. It what’s make the difference between tourists and Parisian
So interesting ❤ I’ve always wanted a LV monogram handbag, but couldn’t bring myself to spend that much, especially since my husband pointed out “it’s not even real leather” lol. Now that I’m older, I appreciate much more the “quiet luxury” aesthetic, and things that are made of quality materials and more local. I think Parisienne women have it right and they always look so elegant, even in jeans and a t-shirt. I’m a new subscriber and love your content. Thanks so much ❤
Parisian women look good because they are slim and groomed well. They look after themselves and don't eat rubbish. They could wear a sack and look good, Chanel brought out a sac to demonstrate this aesthetic - you can only pull that kind of bag off if you are physically already good looking.
@@kdcm6690This is true! I have found that since I lost weight and do Pilates, that clothes look so much better on me now. I buy a lot of high quality clothes at consignment stores and Savers/Goodwill in wealthy neighborhoods. I had to completely buy a new wardrobe when I lost a large amount of weight, and had to buy a lot of clothes within a relatively short period of time. The statement that clothing looks good on slim, well groomed women is exactly one of the reasons why those Parisians look so chic.
As someone who travels to France occasionally and loves Paris, and as a former anthropologist, I cannot imagine why anyone would buy something in France that they could get in NYC or LA, for example. When I go to any country outside of the US, I look exclusively for products born and made in that country. Thank you Alice! I do have old Versace and confess to having Gucci and Vuitton from years ago but now prefer things made in Europe, at any price. 😘
I just came back from Paris and Nice area and I can tell you the one reason right now for Americans to buy luxury goods in France is the exchange rate that's in favor of the dollars. My daughter asked me to pick up a LV Papillon Trunk for her and she saved around $800 after taking in the price difference and the detax in France and the sales tax in the states. I picked up some scarves from Dior, LV, Gucci and Ferragamo and saved several hundreds US dollars as well. Of course the reverse was true not too long ago when French people buying up the storm when they came to the states.
I actually don't care what Parisians would think of me😂, I love my logos. Goyard and FLP also look just as tacky as LV . Their logos may not be as recognizable like LV yet, it will take quite a while for them to get as recognizable as the LV logos worldwide. My LV canvas bags are light, durable and fits my lifestyle. We don't live in Paris that's why we check out Laduree etc, if I live in Paris that would be ordinary to me too. But yeah no denying, I'm a tourist when I'm in Paris. Like a friend in Vegas that's said oh we don't go to the strip well when I go to Vegas dang yeah I'll go to the strip not in Summerlin duh.
Real question: why exactly are you watching this video then? I watched it because I wanted a Parisians opinion, instead of the British videos where they put out their opinion on what Parisians like as fact. It’s also nice to see what other Parisiens think in the comments.
And the term*Mass Marketed *is not always a bad thing. Goyard has attempted to be as Mass as LV,but unfortunately for them, people don’t like Goyard as much as they like LV,Gucci, etc. Goyard would not turn down those mass dollars from the the*Cheap*masses if they had a choice…
@@margaretkoenig2906 I’ll answer that: I watched it to learn what Parisians wear instead of the masses. It didn’t tell me anything. As a person who travels to Paris often,I wanted to be made to believe something different.
thank you for saying that! extremely bored by some RUclipsr who pretend to teach the "Parisian style" while they are not even French and not parisian or maybe lived in Paris 20 years ago. worth mentioning
Thank you for this video. I am traveling to Paris soon and want a local experience, not the mass-produced tourist experience . 💖 I am so elated to know that Michael Kors owns Versace. I don't know why this amuses me. I respect him much more than today's Versace brand. It was greatness in the 90s. RIP Gianni.💝
Alice, trés bon et merci! I already knew the attitude towards LV, Gucci, Versace and Moet. It's just as tacky here in the States. However your macaron review is most helpful. I've seen the Laudurée queues of tourists in New York. I can't imagine a Parisian doing the same, but I didn't know of alternatives. The rose and lychee macaron sounds delicious! I will be watching your channel as it will be of great use planning my holidays. Il y a beaucoup d’Américains offensés dans ce fil. C’est le signe que vous avez absolument raison. MERCI d'avoir utilisé le mot ringard. C'est vraiment la meilleure description... J'adore!!! 😂😂😂
@@Aliceinparisofficial oh please nowadays Versace is modern and chic. And also about the quality. Girls! the quality of Versace products last better than LV, Gucci and others stuff. to be fair I try to throw my Versace shirt into the washing machine, and still fine but the rest of other brands just scratch all the logos. I even bleach it :))))))))))))))))). I don't think it is a downfall because of that quality and trend reason.: ))) as a Parisian I am sure you never heard of a continent called CHINA. Have you ever noticed how many people in china buy LV, Dior, Gucci, Hermes as an investment or retail to other smaller countries? : )))))))))))) Most of the sale revenue comes from China because they hold a major percentage of revenue in every category due to high popularity.
Even Goyard is a bit overdone, you see it on the London tube more than LV bags. But I do like them. LV bags seem to only get used in spring or early summer, rest of the year you never see people carrying it much in London. The Faure bags with the pistol motif is not for me, I'm afraid, they look kitch. It isn't just about quality, it's also about the styling which looks tacky. My all time fav is still the small Loewe Puzzle bag for every day use. It is so ergonomic.
At the end of the day, wear what you want and what suits your style. Never let anyone dictate what you want, you do you. As long as your comfortable and happy with what your wearing. I go for mainstream brands because I wear them once or twice and when I'm bored with it, I can resell them and they still hold on to their value. If you buy this supper parisian brands and your not in paris, you can never resell them in a good price because a lot of people don't know them.
A guest at my cousin’s one summer for dinner was a guest who was a chef who made the most outstanding macarons. They were hands down so much better than what I had at La Durée at a biz dinner in Paris.
100 % more legit than some women on RUclips who teach you how to be French or “Parisienne”;when they are not even French or live in Paris. That is the real arrogance…. I am not a tourist here in Paris
Love this video. A very honest conversation about what is happening with well know luxury brands. I want excellent quality if I’m spending that much. The alternate brands you mentioned look amazing.
I totally agree with you that the brands you mentioned are much more stylish, better quality and so on. And yes, the LV bags are really vulgar now. They are not my style anyway. Unfortunately, I missed Pierre Hermé. I confess that I have been addicted to PAUL's pistachio macarons for years. They are certainly not the best and PAUL is a very commercial chain but I really love them. My guilty pleasure.
She is absolutely right !!! She is perfect I love love all what she says It is the truth French women like me don't wear these brands !! Bravo Alice 🎉😊❤
I am making a second trip back to France. I love Paris and I find the people lovely. They are not as outgoing as we Americans, but certainly friendly if you make the effort. I love your channel!
Hi Alice, according to statistics France has a contribution of 6% to LVs annual volumes. As does Japan, also 6%. So roughly €5 billion euros in sales each, per annum. Given than the population of France is 68 million people and the population of Japan is 128 million people (double) we can say that your French per capita consumption of LV is DOUBLE that of Japan…
Hello Rita thank you for this information ….but I talk about Parisian taste and style. I know for a fact that people in province out of Paris and others town in France wear and like LV…a Parisian will go to Goyard, Moynat or FLP. Btw I was at the beach for two weeks full of Parisian from 16th and they were ALL wearing Goyard tote bag. I saw one Faure le page. NO LV 😅
Who cares what Parisian like or wear. I Do me and I do love LV and Gucci Some of their's pieces not all of them. I will not wait in line to buy from them neither. I rather do it online.❤
It's funny how luxury brands are interpreted in different cultures. There is something about the brand being recognized. No doubt the purses you showed are better quality than Louis Vuitton. But the Parisian bags wouldn't be recognized here in the U.S. but Louis Vuitton is well understood to be expensive and "luxury".
It should also be mentioned that countries like the US don’t have the luxury like France in having lots of small business in stores. Most are platforms like Etsy, so for Americans, the best place to get quality items are through these mainstream luxury brands.
Hello I lived 8 years in the USA lucky to stay in Manhattan midtown and I saw many NYC women there wearing goyard. Faure Le Page is also know interniationally but yes no doubt less mass unless you travel often to Europe
@@Aliceinparisofficial Good point. In my comment where I said “here”, I meant a small community on the West Coast. The culture is very different then in a place like Manhattan or Beverly Hills where European brands would be recognized
Best champagne for me is Salon des Mesnils. So superb. If you find an ‘86 or early 90’s vintage at under $200/bottle, buy all you can. Only share with beloved friends who love great champagne!💕 They only bottle in stellar vintage years, otherwise they sell their grapes (all Chardonnay) to other vintners.
I was surprised to find out that Ladurée is manufactured outside France but that doesn’t change my love for Ladurée. Personally I think the meringue part is just another level compared to all other brands. The fact that it’s industrialized even amazes me as it just explains how good the quality control is. I am definitely not a parisien, but based on my experience living in Paris for a few years, the only Ladurée boutique requires queuing is the one at Champs-Élysées and same for Pierre Hermès at Champs-Élysées. To me they’re very similar and I doubt that Pierre Hermès is still marketing themselves as just a bakery and not a brand(like you can see both outside of France and you tell me that’s not branding 🙃)? Of course it’s all down to preference, so try both! Decide what you like and buy what you like. 🙂
@@AliceinparisofficialI suspected that’s what happens with Laduree, when I started to see them outside of France, and yes at Orly airport. I was in Paris a lot in the 90’s and loved their macaroons and having tea in the shop. I thought the taste has changed when I first got some in Zürich. Now I have to try what you mentioned next time I am there!
I enjoyed the video, however, I really like Fauré Le Page handbags, but you do realise they are covered in a monogram. Just saying. 🤷🏼♀️As is Louis Vuitton. Goyard is carried by many socialites. Maybe you should’ve based this video on ‘your personal’ preferences. No one would be mad at this, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but you made it sound factual as opposed to personal. 🫶
I agree on some but mass production is quite common cause most french luxury brand outsource majority of their materials. And on LV is a classic statement and very durable since some of their monogram is coated plastic. This video sound like a typical french who thinks their opinion matters above else.
As someone who worked in the garment industry, I find it interesting that many people believe that if products are manufactured in a certain country(usually European) that it indicates quality. This is absolutely incorrect. Quality of a garment or shoes is dependent on quality fabric/leather and skilled workmanship. Italians or French are not more skilled by nature of their birth. It is up to the brand to determine if a product is up to their quality standard.
I should have put Balenciaga instead of Gucci. I would have less problem 😂 but “edgy people” in Paris wear this brand instead of Gucci. I personally think Balenciaga looks just horrible. It’s ugly. In that case, I prefer Gucci that Balenciaga…
I love Gucci and love Italy❤! I agree not every peice is fantastic though. However also think every brand has their good and not so good. For example even Chanel who is iconic has been producing poor quality handbags with crooked stitching, hardwear turning, handles falling off. Their costume jewelry...the beads and stones can fallout within days of purchasing.😢
@@crewlworld. I agree. Chanel is not exclusive anymore. It’s also mass produced for ridiculous prices and quality is poor. And all the bags look the same year after year, unless you purchase something very unusual. Otherwise, Not exquisite in my eyes. I’ve kept a few unusual older Chanel bags, when Karl was alive, but sold a few others.
I'm a big fan of Goyard, have a few pieces and they all look brand new. I'm very happy with this brand. My LV bags which I have the most of are also great purchases for me. I really love them. I think each person get items they are exposed to and unlike the native French we are not versed on the many things they favor. Not to say I don't own luxury bags that don't shout the brand, I do. I have a lot of understated luxury items and appreciate every piece.
What’s your point at 9:49 saying that Gucci also makes their products in Japan? The craftsmanship ship here is amazing (I live in Japan) and this is one of the most advanced countries in the world with probably a higher overall standard for quality in so many aspects of life. Saying something isn’t made in Europe anymore implies that the quality is lower, but come on, if the products are being made in Japan then the quality would be equal (if not even better). Are you mixing up countries? Did I misunderstand? Anyway, still interesting hearing your perspective and enjoyed seeing the different brands you mentioned.
hello maybe I did not explain myself correctly but honestly... Japan is an amazing country super sophisticated and also ver very classy people. Its just that if you buy an iconic Italian brand you expect it is made in Italy. the case for 100% luxury brand. I just take Japan as an example
@@Aliceinparisofficial Ah, ok, I completely understand what you mean, thank you for clarifying. Yes, that’s true, I would expect the same. I think French and Japanese sense towards style is very similar (high quality expectation and more understated). Your video was interesting and now I want to try the champagne you mentioned 😊
I agree….made in Japan means quality! I think she is saying that we expect the various brands to be made where they were originally made. LV …French…Gucci…Italy etc.
@@Aliceinparisofficial I just bought a Celina bag which is made in Italy. Believe Chanel also have some of their bags made in Italy, so I am confused as to what to expect. Is it not 100 % luxury if it is not made in the “mother” country ?
Merci beaucoup! I am new to your Chanel and am loving it! The information is so incredibly helpful and exactly what I have been looking for. ❤ I am heading to Paris for the first time next month and will use every bit of it! 🎉
It's interesting to hear your opinion. I don't own anything showy, but recently I've been wondering if I should buy a luxury bag secondhand. But to carry a bag with a big logo on it is just so embarrassing for me. I don't know how else to describe the feeling. I'd die of embarrassment. Maybe it's because none of my friends or family own anything like that either.
Versace and Gucci do have beautiful clothing and not everything has monograms ... Mens loafers are so confound high quality... Versace belts are amazing.. not every they sell has logos...
EXCUSE ME ! I have been in Paris like 15 times and I see people with Louis Vuitton all over only the people can not afford it , don’t wear LV , Omg I don’t know why you are saying that.
this is madness and stupid. LV is middle luxury... believe me people who can truly afford buy Hermes or Chanel.... LV looks and is cheap. Again, please you are NOT living in Paris. Seeing people in the streets... how can you tell they live in Paris. I live here.. I take the underground going to work... I am seeing real parisan
I don't know about the macarons and the champagne (haven't tried the brands you mentioned) but I totally agree with you about Gucci. Parisian or not Parisian, I think that a person with some good taste and sophistication would never wear something so tacky.
I’m so happy I found your channel tonight. I agree totally with everything you said. I actually never liked LV, don’t have anything of theirs, or those other common luxury brands. Gucci is ugly and I hate monograms. I don’t like their designs, neither the clothes nor the accessories. Whereas, i absolutely love the shopping bag you showed, it’s fabulous.
On macarons, I was pretty happy with the caramel macaron in Le Bon Marché. Since it was close to our hotel, I bought 1 caramel macaron to snack on each day when I was in Paris. I think it was 2 euros back then, not the fanciest for sure, but I loved it!
I love your video. Just wanted to make a point about Goyard. It is privately owned, not by LVMH. That said, LVMH owns Moynat, instead. I commend you on your open passion about quality over mass market. Greetings from Australia. x
I agree with what you said about Gucci and Versace, but I don't think they should be on this list at all, as they are Italian brands, not French. Even if they were high quality, I would still not expect French people to buy them as the French are rather nationalists 🤷♀
Hello Mitsuri unfortunately French buy a lot of things from China and they don't care if it is produced in China and not in France. They buy everything. Only I will say people who care about quality and enjoy true luxury will try to buy more made in France.
@@Aliceinparisofficial To be honest Italian leatherwear craftsman work is still very well developed and if you check leading luxury brands from around the world you will find that main part of their leather bags and shoes are made in Italy and not in France (even big part of French luxury brands produced in Italy for some reason).
@@jelenaa9838 I hate to burst your bubble but Northern Italy is full of migrant Chinese factory workers. Its why the region was so badly hit by Covid when migrants returned to Italy from celebrating Chinese new year at home. You are being gouged by corporate greed.
I recommend Paraboot for hand stiched French shoes - better than JM Weston and much more exclusive. Also there are many other excellent Champagnes from heritage houses: Gosset, Bollinger, Tattinger, for example.
Hello I have Paraboot shoes too. In my opinion, Weston is higher quality and more exclusive since they do customed shoes. but this is debatable. Paraboot is a great brand. Also for champagne I go for some special vintage Bollinger and Tattinger but there are many good brands better than Moet
Love getting your insider opinions ... I don't care for logos all over bags and clothing. Prefer subtle quality. Thanks very much for video. I would love to see a video of handbags Parisians love. I have 4 Polene bags but would like to try different French bags too.
I just found your channel today Alice and I am binging on it 😊 I would love to see a video on the handbag brands you love. Thank you for all the information you give 💕
I worked in Paris and Geneva for a couple of jewelry designers for a very famous French house/atelier. The whole family had Louis Vuitton luggage with the logos, I am British and we are usually very low key with branding (maybe not nowadays) I felt very exposed even going through the VIP lounge with all these people and their LV luggage. I will say at least it looked like it was quality made back then (the 90s). I still thought it was a little LOUD. I had some leather Samsonite lol Significantly less money but I still have it.
I’m new to your channel and Your video seems to send a message as if Parisian people are better than others? Or too good to wear these items? Just rubs the wrong way. I’ll pass.
I think it is interesting how different cultures see what is considered as chic or cool. At the end it is up to customer to decide what is best for themselves. But I still appreciate some of recommendations made. I love goyard (less so of faure la page), also not a fan of Louis Vuitton now with changes in direction of brand itself.
Thank you Amanda! I am making recommendation and people constantly ask me what Parisian will buy… 100% honest recommendation. If you like LV go for LV …but it’s not the first Parisian choice…. That’s it
Nothing listed in this video could be called "edgy". Also, anyone with actual style doesn't consider what others will think of their bag, clothes, shoes etc. That's the opposite of edgy ,cool, stylish
I was in Paris for a week right before this Easter and the only Luis Vuiton bag I remember was a paper one with a big box in it (and probably accual bag inside of the box). I saw it my last day wihle standing in line to board the plane back to Prague and the owner spoke Czech without any foreign accent.
What do Parisians think of Givenchy, Christian Dior, Chanel, Balmain, Chaumet, Piaget, Boucheron, Roger Vivier and Azzedine Alaïa? These are some of my favorite fashion houses and luxury jewelry brands from France.
Will do a video about the most parisian of fashion designers or brands that Parisian love. Alaïa is highly considered here.... every parisian dream of an Azzedine dress. I have two and I want to add a three and a skirt. Dior yes Roger Vivier also it is so so parisian (with Clergerie). Balmain unfortunately has downgraded with time by being overexposed on social media.... also too many logo and tacky details... Givenchy ok but Saint Laurent is more considered...
I agree in the philippines LV is like a status qou its sad to say u belong in the “it rich group” but i find it almost everybody wearing it ,in Paris its just ordinary lol nothing so so special “ so this is very well explained”
It helps me so much ! Merci ! ❤ If not too troublesome, maybe could you pls recommend more brands that local Parisian would buy ?! ❤❤❤🎉 thank you so much!
Interesting video. I might like a RUclips video, but I rarely post comments; however, I felt the need to comment here. Even though I might agree with some of the recommendations and discussion, using harsh words like tacky, etc, wasn't necessary. I, too, buy quality. I understand the point, but the commentary is a bit harder. People have different preferences.
Hello, you should have specified that if parisians do not wear brands with logo like LV or Gucci is because of many counterfeit items that we see everywhere in Paris, on more modest neighborhoods like Château Rouge, Belleville or in surburbs… So it does not make people who can afford the real items want to look like them… those show off brands have lost their light, their aura because of that, for sure!
Parisians don't like to show off. If they have a richer account, you can see it in their chic, the glass of champagne before dinner, perfectly polished shoes and well cleaned black jacket. If they are less rich, they will always find the way to look fashionable.
Agree. I have been there a few times and in France as a whole. Hardly anyone looks sophisticated and rich.
👀
Tourists don't visit Paris for the French people. That's for sure. They tend to think that people want to look "Parisian" or "French" when shopping but people just want to buy what works for them back in their hometown. Yes, rude & snobby is true.
Well I have a Jessica Simpson purse and matching wallet in every color 😂 they were buy 2 get one Free....No but honestly to each his own, and f.y.i don't nobody wanna be a Parisian , not all but most are rude and snooty and that to me shows no class.
I lived in Milan and in Paris and I totally agree... Italians dress better than french people and are way nicer and kind.
mmm...nice video summarizing Parisian opinion.
My mom has that bag too - she loved it to death.
I got gifted an LV bag but actually hardly wore it as everyone was walking around with them and I like to be original. So the monogram is a no for me but as you say, it cannot be said that they're bad quality. I think Chanel is currently much worse.
@@PriHL i like original things best too. my current favorite from an etsy artist, with a big old puffer fish on it.
no one has one exactly like it.
@@beezlebub9 it is a very useful bag.
Can’t agree more. LV can last forever and their leather is better quality than lots of brands.
I lived in Europe for several years and I found it interesting that the French snubbed the Italian brands and the Italians snubbed the French brands 😂.
If only Americans would buy American!
@@tinalettieri Oh that's new to me...I didn't know Gloria Vanderbilt made jeans 🙂 I love her perfume.

I explained to her it is made the same way my picnic table cloth is-
cotton fabric with a design stamped on it then covered with a polyvinyl coating. Then you pay thousands of dollars for that with a thin, cheap leather trim.
Basically, that’s what all canvas bags are made of
no matter what the brand is.
That's why I don't.
I LOVE Faure Le Page! Discovered them after leaving the Chanel flagship store empty handed. Every time I visit Paris, I bring home a new item.
Love this brand! Such a great heritage!
Need to review and try Sadaharu macaron
I tried Ladurée macarons in Paris and it was super yummy! and I don't generally eat macarons
Laduree macarons were made in France since the beginning. Laduree open a factory in Switzerland some 10 years ago. This factory must provided the export orders. 2 years ago the firm decided to have one production site , so now macarons are made in Switzerland with - of course - the same recipe …
@paristoptips
Maybe your palate is not very developed than and you are not demanding :) Pierre Herme is uncomparable to Laduree.
@@sevenofnine2233 Pierre Herme is up there
I just purchased a mid ranged vintage bag - a rare issue by Coach circa 1980s that was made in the USA. The stitching and finishing is impeccable and it has no logo.
Coach and Dooney. Great bags.
Not surprised. The reason why I buy vintage. Quality was here by that time. Some pieces are IMPECCABLE 20 years after. It was luxury. Same thing with perfume btw
@@Aliceinparisofficial I totally agree about perfume !!! I can never forget Ellips by Jacque Fath from 70’s
@@sofyameytus710 So you will love this channel and the perfume I review here. I used to wear Jacques fath by Jacques Fath which I discover 8- 9 years ago at Jacqueline perfumery in San Francisco. I am looking for a bottle because it is discontinued
@@Aliceinparisofficial yes, this is story of my life…. They discontinue everything I love😫
@@Aliceinparisofficial She was rude. Ignore her.
The first thing you learn in business school is the difference between value and price…
@@chronicreader So true. It was considered bad taste. The only monogram I would wear are my own initials.
@@Aliceinparisofficial True! For excellent quality Italian craftsmanship, I love Brunello Cucinelli!
the most Italian luxury brands are Loro Piana and Brunello Cuccinelli. They really do craftmanship
Vintage gucci is not the same as gucci now. The quality and flashy juicy couture prints they use now is just trash.
I’m sorry, but Goyard is the opposite of “edgy”. It’s about as preppy as you can get. And you said Parisians think monogram looks cheap, but you yourself wear Faure La Page and Goyard, both of which plaster their products with monograms
Faure Le page and Goyard are definitely much more understated and under-the-radar when compared to brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
hello thanks for your comment. yes about goyard that's why I said that I prefer Faure le Page over Goyard because it's more edgy. although parisian wear Goyard also and they like it.
Yr cousin wasn't born in Paris

You mustn't mind too much sweetie
- they're terrible snobs, they believe
it is "having standards" (My Aunt,
a wonderful Scottish/English lady thought exactly the same - it doesn't hv to be unkind but some Parisians can be that way hopeful you meet the nice
ones, mostly)🙏💜🇬🇧💜
It's all about personal preference. I do not stick with one designer and I don't really care if Parisians like it or not. It's important that I like it. My Parisian girlfriend likes Hermes but Hermes just never does anything for me. On top of that their pricing is off the chart.
I love Paris!!I’ve spent holidays 4X in Paris and intend to visit this charming beautiful city! But never bought any expensive luxury bag!
Yea that’s the point! Buying local when you travel

As a person who travels to Paris often,I wanted to be made to believe something different.

for Parisian mass market is a bad thing. Again this channel and this video is dedicated to the Parisian life and style

J'adore!!!

Girl Versace looks good depending on who wears it. I look amazing in Versace.
Versace!!!! Super high quality... Beautiful items... Not everything is tacky
Love the vintage Versace for style and quality
If I ever travel to France I will be sure to carry Coach or Ralph Lauren! 💕 (Even though I love LV and Hermes LOL…)
Hermes is great! I like Ralph Lauren and Coach... less popular in Paris

A guest at my cousin’s one summer for dinner was a guest who was a chef who made the most outstanding macarons. They were hands down so much better than what I had at La Durée at a biz dinner in Paris.
I didn't realize that Michael Kors bought Versace. The very flashy branding now makes total sense.

100 % more legit than some women on RUclips who teach you how to be French or “Parisienne”;when they are not even French or live in Paris. That is the real arrogance…. I am not a tourist here in Paris
Well you said many times that Parisiennes don’t like to wait in queues but I always see them wait outside Pierre Herme for so long!
Maybe Pierre Herme is one of the kind worth the wait 😝
Love this video. A very honest conversation about what is happening with well know luxury brands. I want excellent quality if I’m spending that much. The alternate brands you mentioned look amazing.

Tried Pierre Herme macaroons for the first time, lived next door on avenue De l'Opera and yes, those are the best macaroons ❤

I Do me and I do love LV and Gucci
Some of their's pieces not all of them.
Yes they would. Goyard is well known in the US
Not everyone in the US considers LV to be a luxury brand - many understand it to be aimed at a mass market.
My daughter likes Laduree but I prefer Pierre Herme cos less sweet. But my ultimate fav is Jean Paul Hevin, which is a chocolatier.

Just saw Pierre Hermé at CDG terminal 1 the other day and in fact if you google it you can see it all over Asia as well
@@AliceinparisofficialI suspected that’s what happens with Laduree, when I started to see them outside of France, and yes at Orly airport.
I love Paris, but people are dressed very simple there, certainly not a fashion models. Classic elegance is always appreciated, logos or not.
It depends where you live in Paris. the style is less sartorial than NY but Parisian do tend to be sophisticated. It is just different
I love my leather longchamp bag ,,,, quality bag even if mass produced
In Milano Rome Florence and Italy.. edgy people wear Gucci. It’s high quality for Italians. Maurizio Gucci was famous, huge!
My father - an artist - uses the LV bag as a bread bag. He said: it is disgustingly loud but keeps the bread fresh…
@@MariaPetalcorin in this type of video it's difficult to explain fully. no problem! thank you 🙏🙏
I agree….made in Japan means quality!
Fascinating! I I've been looking for a channel like this. Just subscribed and looking forward to seeing more videos.
Tq for this insider info. I agree that we shd buy what we like n not care what others think. By the way I love your blazer n clean style
I am mesmerized by your makeup. What brands foundation and the eye shadow, and the lipstick are you using?
Merci beaucoup! I am new to your Chanel and am loving it! The information is so incredibly helpful and exactly what I have been looking for. ❤ I am heading to Paris for the first time next month and will use every bit of it! 🎉
Hello Alice, I love your makeup and fashion style. Would you consider doing a video about this?
Yes Parisian make up
It's interesting to hear your opinion.
Why we have to buy what parisiens like? We buy what we like. I prefer LV monogram than Faure gun bag.
Versace and Gucci do have beautiful clothing and not everything has monograms ... Mens loafers are so confound high quality... Versace belts are amazing.. not every they sell has logos...
Not a fan of the loafers honestly…..here in Paris we would go for JM Weston
@@Aliceinparisofficial Everyone?….
Hi So true the 80 s
a. Amazing time for fashion with Versace He really made the models stars. He was one of a kind Stars.
I actually loved this video and found it very informative! Quality always!
Thank you
I’m so happy I found your channel tonight. I agree totally with everything you said. I actually never liked LV, don’t have anything of theirs, or those other common luxury brands. Gucci is ugly and I hate monograms. I don’t like their designs, neither the clothes nor the accessories. Whereas, i absolutely love the shopping bag you showed, it’s fabulous.
thank you Sevi!! So glad you found this channel
I live in Paris (I'm Belgian) my favourites for bags are Lancel and Lancaster. I just discovered your channel and subscribed 😊
Thank you. Lancel and Lancaster are iconic
I adore so many of the Lancel and Lancaster bags. Understated and classic.
On macarons, I was pretty happy with the caramel macaron in Le Bon Marché. Since it was close to our hotel, I bought 1 caramel macaron to snack on each day when I was in Paris. I think it was 2 euros back then, not the fanciest for sure, but I loved it!
still better than La Durée!! Again luxury is not a question about money... it is just quality, experience and uniqueness
Sugar is sugar.
@@Aliceinparisofficial Italy is not China, slightly different quality and sense of fashion I would say 😂
@@jelenaa9838 I did not say that, please….. just saying that mass production is everywhere even in Italy
An open bag like that is the best way of getting robbed. It happened to a friend of mine. You need something with a zipper.
Hello Karen thanks for your comment. I will make a video about my bag collection and what type of bags Parisian wear. Thx
Quality of Goyard😂😂😂? How about the logo print of a Goyard wallet(bought at the store) rubs off after some use….????? Please answer this question!
LV logo bags are considered gauche and tacky by many in the U.S. as well.
I just found your channel today Alice and I am binging on it 😊 I would love to see a video on the handbag brands you love. Thank you for all the information you give 💕
Hello Kathy handbags video is out!
I’ll pass.
Not at all. My channel is all about Parisian life and style. This video explains the brands that Parisian will not wear. Simple as that
Lady! Your whole T-shirt has scribble on it in HUGE letters !!!!!!
its not a logo Georgina!!! please not a logo just words in French
That’s it
Louis Vuitton can be found in all the Asian markets, as can Prada, Dior. This is why it's not so luxurious anymore. Michael Kors is mid market.
Lol, a lot of luxury brands want to tap into the Asian market because it is lucrative o.o
Nothing listed in this video could be called "edgy". Also, anyone with actual style doesn't consider what others will think of their bag, clothes, shoes etc. That's the opposite of edgy ,cool, stylish
If you say so
I was in Paris for a week right before this Easter and the only Luis Vuiton bag I remember was a paper one with a big box in it (and probably accual bag inside of the box). I saw it my last day wihle standing in line to board the plane back to Prague and the owner spoke Czech without any foreign accent.
At what point do you consider an item mass market.? Do you think these choices might be influenced by your personal preferences?
We got Louis Roederer for our wedding in 2012 bought from a french friend in Brussels 🥂
I have a Lancel bag, I know it is not expensive, but the quality is superb.
It is a good bag even not luxury.
@@AliceinparisofficialLove Clergerie and Vivier - some of mine are decades old.
I love. Please, very interesting to see what parfumes usually Parisians buy and what cosmetics as well. Merci)
Yes I will
@@Aliceinparisofficial thanks a lot) love your channel)
My daughter attends a French highschool in Chicago and I have never seen any parents, teachers with Louis Vuitton products.
Amazing! And I actually dislike Michael Kors very much .
Thanks for sharing the idea ❤
I always loved goyard! I'll pick Goyard above Luis Vuitton and gucci any day!
I agree in the philippines LV is like a status qou its sad to say u belong in the “it rich group” but i find it almost everybody wearing it ,in Paris its just ordinary lol nothing so so special “ so this is very well explained”
Amazing🎉🎉
There’s nothing tacky about the 1950s Gucci loafer. Beg to differ.
JM weston are 100x better quality.
Absolutely not. Stop this france over italy narrative, cause reality is completely different.
J'ai tout de même un petit Alma BB Vuitton mais en canevas damier (l'original) acheté Vintage!
It helps me so much ! Merci ! ❤
If not too troublesome, maybe could you pls recommend more brands that local Parisian would buy ?! ❤❤❤🎉 thank you so much!
Hello Mandy thank you !!! Yes I will !! so many good very Parisian brands!
Please do a video of your luxury bag collection. It would be great to see the bags and your insights on them.
Yes will do about my collection and also what luxury bags Parisian buy here
