    It’s the most californian I have ever heard a british woman talk.
    It’s pure joy the way she uses question marks to end statements, and elongates words into eternity while saying yeah in the rythm of a heartbeat.
    Easy listening that makes understanding such a deep topic just that much easier.

    Watching this has probably been the highlight of my life. I'm absolutely stunned and amazed by what I've witnessed here. I'd even go so far as to say that it's changed my whole outlook. And no, I haven't been paid to say this. I don't work for Hodinkee. And I'm very much a real human being and by no means a bot.

    I like this series. It's different. So many watch people dismiss the link between fashion and watches because they think fashion is superficial and fake, but as the series shows, fashion is really about expressing one's individuality. I like that. Everyone is different. Not all watches should be expensive or complicated or high horology. Sometimes it's just about wearing something that you like.

    • @Cull_Obsidian
      @Cull_Obsidian 4 месяца назад +2

      Watches are fashion. To call it fake is just as much an aesthetic choice as engaging with it.
      It’s the worst possible decision, because having no taste is far far worse than having bad taste.

    Best series Hodinkee have ever produced and I have been following Hodinkee from day one.
    Talking watches within the wider fashion & design community is just fascinating and I would say has reinvigorated my waning enthusiasm with the watch community. Malaika is doing an incredible job and look forward to more from her series. Bravo. 👏🏻

I have a few pairs of shoes, majority of which I treasure and care for, and one that cost the same as the others that I wear as a default that I "beat up". This chap said he wears this most times - is it entirely untenable he just likes wearing it, for wearing it? Without having to be precious about it? Not everything is a collectors item.

    This series was great, I’m so glad Malika and Hodinkee made it. And if you are crying and seething over “old Hodinkee” I feel sad for you.
    It’s not hard to understand the aesthetics and design behind jewellery design. Watches are jewellery, despite what the man who wears a seamaster because he wants to feel like James Bond may think.

    • @ItsNeverTooHot4Leather
      @ItsNeverTooHot4Leather 4 месяца назад +3

      I agree, and to neglect a focus on watches as personal items of jewelry (which is inherent as a part of fashion) is to ignore the very essence of watches. But even the man who wears the Seamaster because of the Bond connection is engaging in an aspect of pop fashion (as Bond himself is considered a fashion icon) that the individual is completely oblivious to, which is quite unfortunate.

    • @Cull_Obsidian
      @Cull_Obsidian 4 месяца назад +3

      @@ItsNeverTooHot4Leather I think you’re completely right. It’s the irony and quite possibly hypocrisy in people who say they’re “tool watch” lovers and care not for fashion.
      That in and of itself is very much an aesthetic choice and as we all know, James Bond is supposed to be impeccably dressed.

    • @ItsNeverTooHot4Leather
      @ItsNeverTooHot4Leather 4 месяца назад +3

      @@Cull_ObsidianThe other fascinating hypocrisy of those who criticize the wearing of watches for fashion is their failure to understand that the individuals wearing the so-called "fashion" watch are doing so with intentionality: to literally engage in fashion with the item and use it to enhance their fashion. Yet, many (if not most) "tool watch" wearers have not, and will not, dive deeper than 5 meters underwater. Their watch is doing little to nothing to enhance engagement in diving or whatever else the purpose is of the tool.
