- Winter home decorating ideas for after the holidays. Filmed at Groton House in 2020, I'm sharing a few home decorating ideas for winter, after the holidays have passed.
The Christmas decor has come down now what? Well how about adding just a few simple winter decorating ideas such as planting paperwhite bulbs in a large urn with pinecones and twigs so that they will bloom before Spring, or how about adding flowers to a hutch that has been re-styled and re-decorated after the Christmas decorations have been put away? Let's not forget the front door. For another simple winter decorating idea, I just added some twigs from the yard to our front door urns after I removed the pineapple decorations that once welcomed guests.

I just wanted to take a minute and tell you how much I enjoy your channel. I'm a native Vermonter (Dorset, VT) now living in Charleston, SC. I attended Wellesley College and UMASS Boston many years ago and your channel feeds my need for New England seasons, decorating and history! Thank you!! Happy New Year!
I'm a Yankee too! Clean and save what you might need again! Paperwhites are beautiful in the winter/spring but they have a very unusual fragrance.
Belatedly (1/28/21) sending warm hugs and wishes for a hope-filled, healthy and happier year ahead. May God bless each of you!
Thank you for sharing all you do with us. I am also a big fan of Linda Vater. So glad you are staying on You tube. I look forward to each episode.
I keep my fairies up all year long it's magical
Reminds me of my childhood , sleigh rides, and playing under the snowball tree & my Nana...wreaths are always beautiful every season
New subscriber! I'm so happy to have found this channel!
I bought paper whites from Amazon and planted them in early December in a big white bowl. I tucked in some Christmas balls around the bulbs and set the dish on a large Christmas serving plate. It’s still bringing me joy!
I love your decorating style. Very classic but not fussy. Love using my silver pieces in different ways too!!
We’re in a stay-at-home order here in Los Angeles, but I had so wanted to get paper whites per your inspiration! My late husband & I owned a Landscape Contracting Mgmt. & Design Co. for 35 yrs., & I enjoyed our bursting & beautiful garden, but now I’m happy with just a few blooms here & there. Simple pleasures!
Our Health Order just got extended as well...your neighbors up north, in B.C., Canada...no one allowed in our homes except for those that live in it...amongst all sorts of other things...stay safe...!
What i appreciate the most in your person is your so perfect and pure prononciation, it’s such a pleasure to hear you, just like a fresh waterfall. Green is my favorite color, yes, this color has the same effect on me. Have a nice weekend Linda 🤗
I am a born and bred Connecticut Yankee. We are moving to South Carolina next week. I am so happy I will be able to "take you with me!"
Linda, this video is so perfect giving suggestions to this time immediately following the festive, holiday season.🌿🤍🍃🌸🤍
I love paperwhites! I have them every Christmas
thank you so much for keeping your you tube.... we love watching you and learning from you
I love the ideas for decorating. I have never grown paper whites before, just ordered some to try them out.
They are about the easiest things to grow!
Thank you for the storage tips. Love the branches and pinecones for paperwhites. Blessings.
So happy that you put my mind to rest! I didn't want to miss any of your future videos! Thanks, Linda for all your efforts!

Thank you Linda for this video. I literally was walking around my house trying to figure out how to winter decorate my mantle !
White flowers it is! Love Linda Vader as I am a gardener, problem is I am in zone 5. I have 5 inches of snow on the ground thank you🙂 But Linda is great!
Linda I really do enjoy all your tube programs. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us. Stay healthy and safe. ❤️
Your voice is so soothing Linda. I always watch your channel before bed because it is so relaxing! You are so creative and have such a beautiful home. I get so inspired watching you paint and decorate. 💕
Love all the white flowers!
To protect the dried orange slices stored from your kitchen holiday tree, you can test putting a few slices in an airtight mason jar with an oxygen absorber. 🧡
Linda I just love your little cupboard in your kitchen and I think my favorite is the white porcelain and transfer ware and white flowers.
It make me so happy to look at it..so uplifting. I’ve never done paper whites...thank you for showing us the process. Great information
As usual. Thank you 🙏🏼🌨🌨🌨🌨☃️
Oh dear...I just sat down with my glass of WINE!
Wish I could enjoy a glass of wine every now & then . Because of MS it makes me more off balance than I usually feel . Maybe I’ll plant on the couch , no walking . 😀
Love twigs with moss on them it's so beautiful all year long ...Xmas time I hang ornaments, then hearts for Valentine's day same on wreaths , then fairies + fairies homes for spring time with rabbits yes I grew up on East Coast(.Newport,RI.).. loved the Life there so beautiful every season
Fun watching you this evening. Very relaxing!
I am running out right now to get some paper whites....you are so inspiring....just beautiful!
Having so much fun with your winter decorating ideas! I have the longer cones that were closed and on the porch to open. So now i can use them with the bulbs bought late and not planted. And you inspired me to go out and cut some wild grape vines for wreaths. Hope you have some wreath ideas. Thank you.
Happy New Year! I saw at the end of this video , you answered a subscriber’s question, as to whether or not you are keeping the RUclips channel. Absolutely Beautiful Peaceful Home 🏠
I planted my Paper-whites in November, it bloom Beautiful flowers and they were my centerpiece for Christmas.
@Deborah. - over the years I have gravitated towards white , chartreuse green and green colours in flowers and plants for Christmas and it gives me so much joy during those short daylight hours!
Thanks Linda for your video today. I was out and couldn't join the pod cast. Our nursery was out of paper whites too in December. I found some at the Christmas store. I usually put up snowmen since I live in Michigan and have a mirror on the table with skating people for my January table centerpiece. Linda Vater has a lovely channel. Her Christmas decorating echoed yours. I love her tours of other gardeners especial the ones in England. Her house and gardens are lovely to. Can't wait to see the flower box she planted with spring bulbs. Have a great day, take care! Can't wait to see what's next😘
What a lovely channel you have made! This video reminds me of Martha Stewart Living’s first TV shows. They were so wonderful and felt like I was chatting about all my favorite things with a friend. Really so happy to have found your channel. 💞
I love your Kitchen tree decorations!
I did something similar to you. I put a black urn on our back porch with some birch twigs and a few red berry branches. When it snows ( I live in Ontario) then there is just white snow, twigs and red berries and it looks beautiful. Simple and pretty. I love your channel and I love your paperwhite display!! Thanks for sharing.
A wine, some bulbs and twigs and inspiration. Thx for the ideas and hello from very northern Germany, 30 miles from DK/Scandinavia.
Hi Linda, looking forward to your 2021 videos and podcasts. The white flowers sure look pretty.
Great News, glad there will be more of your wonderful blogs.thanks for all your efforts.

Happy New Year, Linda! Enjoying the magazines very, very, much! Thank you!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed them!
I use twigs/sticks in all my arrangements. I’m the strange lady who goes around looking for them after a storm. LOL!
Makes me strange too then! Yay!
I'll be strange along with you!
I have 4 barrels full of twigs and a pile ready to go to the recycling center. My River Birch love to share. Wish I had someone who wanted them.
Thank you for Sharing your lovely ideas ! Happy New Year!

Enjoyed!
First time viewer and I am so happy to find you !!! Can't wait to view all of your posts !!
Welcome!!
I loved, loved, loved the fruit and natural feel of your holiday decor. Going to try it next year - getting excited thinking about it. Ha Ha Found a table cloth that is bare branches with a touch of a few remaining leaves! It's providence. Thank you for your thoughtful, elegant approach and for sharing your ideas. Happy New Year.
Your home looks so clean and stylish. Love those twigs at the front door. Less definitely is more. X
Thanks so much! 😊
Enjoyed your video so very much, so funny this year I packed up my decorations according to which tree they were on to!! Thanks for that tip on storing dried fruit, I was just going to throw mine out but thankfully you rescued them!!
Always get great tips from you.
Happy New Year!! Love your channel so much Linda! Look forward to more video.
When I pack seasonal items for storage - actually any items - I always write the year on the label. I think I'll remember, but never do so that is a part of the description. Since moving/downsizing a year ago, I was shocked at how many things I hadn't seen or used in years. Dating is helpful when figuring out keep or donate!!
Happy New Year! Your channel is one of my favorites!
Happy New Year! Thank you!
Love your home, even though I don’t have an older home, wish I could make my home more colonial and classic inside....it is a center hall colonial built in 1987. You have the best channel and I plan to tune into your pod cast. I have retired to care for my adult son who has suffered strokes due to brain cancer as a child...your utube channel sure uplifts my spirits!
God bless you and your son 🙏 stay safe.
Bonjour Linda, I like the idea of the pape whites, great idea. The branches are adding a great touch of décor to the urn that you used. Happy to hear that you are keeping the You Tube running. ! Congratulations for the podcast ! A bientôt !
Hi, Linda. I’m in Zone 8B. Every DEC I start my paperwhites in pretty old tureens, and by January they are poking up about 4 inches. I also have several small myrtle topiaries in a variety of green planters that I place around the house to “bring the outside in.” Keep up the great work!
Hi! Oh how I wish I could keep Myrtle topiaries alive. I try each year.
LInda, your home looks beautiful in all seasons. I will be on the" hunt" for paperwhites. I am thrilled that you are continuing with your you tube videos. Hugs, Jane
Van Engelen bulb company in CT sells them in bulk. I get a hundred every year so that I can have them all winter. I pick some of them to put in bouquets in my bathroom and on my kitchen windowsill.
@@annenyman678 Thank you!
@@richbucklin Before you make a large investment for them indoors, make sure you like the aroma. I love paper whites but they have such a strong odor that I cannot have them inside as I have asthma. Just a heads up. I grew up with them in our home and they never bothered me. What happens as we get older.
It is a fairytale, immaculate, impeccable cozy home.
@@patfondren6013 Thank you for the "heads up." They are sold out so I will check a couple of local nurseries for just a few. Jane
Here in the UK we have hyacinths in January..we plant the bulbs in Oct ready for now..post Christmas ..we plant out side in bowls keeping them cold and dry and dark. We bring them in in Dec or now once a shoot appears...I bring them into a cool utility room later once a green shoot is an inch then I bring them into the room I want them . You can grown the same as the paper whites or just in water. Like the paperwhites they can be planted outside and will grow next year in spring...unless the mice eat them or they rot .
Happy 2021 to you also!
Thank you. Enjoyed this.
And a hugging you back Linda, Looking forward to your videos to come
Irene from Canada
I love paper whites and plant them after Thanksgiving every year. I was very surprised that you had to pay only 85 cents per bulb.....I paid $1.50 per bulb and purchased 30!!!! I live in the midwest......
Like your idea of using long twigs in each pot of bulbs. I will try that next year. The paper white bulbs will not bloom for us here as they are a southern bulb and cannot stand the extreme cold temps of the north. I wish they would keep growing. Thanks for your ideas.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos!
Hi Linda such a beautiful video I always enjoy watching Happy New Year I wish you many blessing
I always enjoy your channel. I am way behind on watching videos but look forward to yours in 2021. Happy New Year ❤️😊❤️
Happy New Year, Kindred Spirits! Another lovely vlog - your voice is so warm and friendly, like we have all gathered in your kitchen! I love white - bright & fresh during the cold, dark months. Snow brightens the house when the sun and moon reflect. I look forward to watching the growth of the paperwhites. How did the apples and pineapples hold up with your outdoor neighbors? Congratulations on the podcast! -Kathleen
Great ideas as always.
I also love the white flowers after the holidays, cleanses the pallet.

I think paper whites were scarce this year. I always get some the middle of December. Only this year they were hard to find! Love the simplicity of decorating for winter. Also loved your kitchen tree this year 💕👍🏻
I found mine this year in Walmart, down in the gardening aisles....
@@DH-qz2so Thank you so much!
