As a NieR fan I feel the soundtrack part should at least have been a 21/20, its basically a soundtrack with a great game as a bonus, but I will settle for this.

One in the base was annoying.
Not every soundtrackpart needs female chanting.
But it is an adaptive soundtrack so it switches to instrumental when you leave the area.

Absolutely unequivocally my favourite ps4 game of all time. Was completely sucked in. I'm glad it's getting exposure and more people get to experience it on switch. I preorerded the physical when preorders went live. Majorly glad this runs well. For me...utter masterpiece. one of the endings is for me..is the greatest ending I have ever seen in a game, period. Great review!

Daaaamn!!! My brother has begged me to play it and my answer was I had too many games I hadn’t beat yet on PS but if it was on the Switch I would get it as it’s my primary and mobile platform.

Masterpiece is not even an exaggeration either. It’s a cerebral game, literally at times lol, it has deep philosophical themes and isn’t afraid to make the player feel exceptionally existential and then utterly nihilist. The music is haunting. And the game is incredibly heartfelt. One of the most disturbing games I’ve played, where I felt bad for characters and doing stuff in the game felt wrong at times, like my conscience was being tugged on.
So incredibly thrilled to see this performing so well. This is a game I never expected would be ported to the switch and with it being my second favorite game of all time (second only to Psychonauts), this has been a dream come true. Not regretting my preorder for a second. AND we have Persona 5 Royal coming out at the end of October? We're being spoiled.

This has easily been one of my most anticipated releases on the switch. The only thing that held me back from the preorder was the question of how well it will run on the switch. Just to hear that it runs great and isnt riddled with bugs has me clicking the proceed to purchase button. Thanks for the review and all your work over here at switchup. As someone who heavily relies on reviews before taking the plunge on spending money for games it is a great service that you all provide for people like me. Keep up the great work Mark, Glenn, and all the reviewers and everyone else involved with the channel. Side note.... This gives me high hopes for the Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core switch release!!!!!

Just keep playing the game, endings A-E are all achieved mostly linearly with A and B being at the end of some points of progression and E being unlocked once you see both C and D which are unlocked based on a choice at the end of the game.
I had no idea that this was being ported. I am in the same boat as you, never played any of the Nier games but always heard good things.

I passed on it initially because I thought it was just an unnecessarily horny action game. Now I own the vinyl box set and have preordered the switch version just so I can hold it in my hands. Do not miss this game. (The story is overrated, but not by much. For me what makes it a 10/10 is the soundtrack.)

Dang. It was so much fun watching your review. It was nice to relive some of the memories of this masterpiece through your review. Even after getting the Platinum on PS4 back in 2017, this game still vividly dances through my mind. What a game! I'm thinking I might go buy the Switch version today and give it another go!

Great review. It was helpful to catchup on the story line of the previous games. I’ve often seen this character appear in RUclips videos but taken the interest till I owned a Switch. I’m a fan of action games like the Witcher and the reference to it won me over. Thanks for a great detailed review
Thanks for another great review and another addition to my backlog! lol. I actually picked up the game on PS4 during the holiday sales last year, but never even broke the shrink-wrap on it. I do 99.9% of my gaming on the Switch nowadays, so when this was announced (for Switch), I was excited about nabbing it. It's great to hear the developers delivered a solid port of what is a largely critical acclaimed gem.
I had no idea it came out this soon! Nier Automata is one of my favorite games. Incredible combat, incredible characters, and a story that I will forever hold dearly in my heart.
i played this on ps4 when it first came out and it was, without a doubt, one of the most unique, memorable and enjoyable gaming experiences i have ever had.
Possibly the best review intro i've heard you do. Philip K. Dick would be proud. Looking forward to this game though! In the same boat, never played before so excited to go in knowing very little. Let's hope it lives up to the hype!
Make sure you don't stop after ending A or B. He wasn't super clear about in this review, but the best part of the story comes after you get ending B. You haven't truly experienced the game until you finish ending E, so PLEASE do not stop early. You'd be missing the part that takes this from a great game to a true masterpiece.
I played this on PS4 and it's forever in my memory, especially the music. It was such an amazing experience of a game.

I adore this game thoroughly, but it's impossible for me to see the title without cringing at the way I used to pronounce it. As soon as I realized it was the plural of "automaton" I kicked myself for not realizing it sooner. Hearing you(and a number of other game reviewers) do it as well gave me some peace of mind. 😅

This is one of my favorite games ever! And you cannot just finish it once to fully enjoy it. The plot twists, the music, combat, dialogues, even the hacking mini games were great. Top tier
when you (complete the game for the first time) you are just starting lol, much much later you see the prologue part xD
You need to play the game a minimum of 3 times to actually get the ending
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 This is a false claim. You do not "finish" the game multiple times, you simply play multiple CHAPTERS of ONE story. The game even mentions this out loud, and any doubts about the B route being "just an NG+" should be wiped out by the first 5 minutes into the chapter.

Been waiting for this one since I got my switch! This game is in my top three, and it got me back into gaming along with the Witcher 3. Incredible game. The writing, music and gameplay are all top shelf. Was worried it would be more overpriced, but that’s very fair. I’m trying to work through Nier Replicant on PS4 now but will definitely double-dip on this during a sale as I haven’t played it since 2016.
Why are you buying a game you already have?
Man been a fan and subscriber of the channel for awhile now... and I also rock a ps4 pro with 8TB hard drive.... that being said. I've seen multiple reviews on this game and played this before and your review has givin the best "preview" of the story, setting and plot, right off the rip. No one ever explains what the hell is going on in this game, all you hear is the praise, mechanics ect.... never any backdrop. For that I commend you.

Honestly Automata is one of the most powerful and emotional pieces of media ever made, Ending [E] is a contender for the most inspirational and beautiful works of art Humanity has ever made.
Nines is also a contender for my fave ever fictional character, he absolutely tore my heart in two in the best way.
It's crazy that DrakeNieR went from an obscure cult series with unfavourable reviews to such an important and acclaimed modern classic with a dedicated audience and managed to break into the mainstream, mostly thanks to Automata's runaway success.
Yoko Taro is a wonderful madman, glory, to mankind.
Definitely looking forward to the upcoming anime next year.

I have Nier on the PS3 and I really enjoyed it. The soundtrack is awesome. Being mainly a Nintendo gamer it was sad to see this released back in the day and I didn't have the console for it. So excited to have this on the Switch! And physical! (Albeit, no special collector's edition). Great review!

As a handheld gaming fan, I have absolutely used the switch as a port machine so I can play all these games I love in handheld. Now the steam deck has completely ruined my excitement for all these upcoming switch ports cause I now I can just play them handheld already. It's great I can play them but I loved the excitement of these games coming to switch and feeling new again.

Hot damn! A succesful port eh? Nice! I played and finished this game on my ps4 multiple times (gotta finish it multiple times for the real ending, Yoko Taro Style). It's really really good! I mean i have always been a Yoko Taro fan. His games are usually good.

Exactly, I just bought a switch for the first time, and I am really happy about the indie and 4-10 year old games being ported. It just feels bad to play old games on the PS5 (I know…. I know… first world problems), but on the switch, it just feels right, I will finish many ports on the switch.
In their defense, once the "on the go" novelty wears out, you're stuck with the shit of the ports. With the release of steam deck, you got the worst of both worlds. That said, don't let it bother you.

One of the best games on the PS4 ever, and a must buy for anyone who is intrigued by the premise… I accidentally only played through it once, since I did have quite a backlog of games, and I felt I needed to move into the next one.
However, play this multiples times, and it’s gets better with each play through! Awesome review, I always like your guy’s descriptions and videos you release weekly!

For those who have never played Drakengard or Nier. Be prepared. The director of this game have a very unique way of telling stories.

To anyone playing for the first time, please please please do not stop after the first ending. This is the only game I can think of that I’ve played that actually had actual consequences And, without giving any away any spoilers, make sure to be online when playing the game to get the “true ending”.
100 percent. 'That' ending... I was in tears actually during the final moments when I realised what was happening, why I was able to still keep going.. all that humanity...then that decision your given to make.. the most mind-blowing ending in a game ever. Still makes me emotional rekindling those thoughts.
I decided to 'help' everyone in the end of that run..the final run...

@@jaredponder4149 it's not 'online' as such as a game really. But that ending is 'connected'.. wifi should be fine as your not playing with everyone. It all comes clear when you get to it. Don't want to say more except... you need ending 'E'

@@jaredponder4149 correct. The first time I got to the “true” end, I was not connected to the WiFi and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to complete the game. I had to look it up, and I’m doing so, spoiled the impact of the true ending for myself. I was still impacted by it, but I’d prefer if everyone get to experience it without having it spoiled.
I was so worried this would be a bad port, so this review makes me really happy! I’ve been wanting to play the Nier games for so long! 😊
I've wanted to grab this on PC, but with working 10 hours a day on a PC getting into any games has been tricky lately. So my switch has been getting quite the workout, love that this has been ported and coming out on my birthday seems like a sign!

I'm mainly interested in the exclusive cosmetics, specifically the 2P skin. Is this unlocked immediately and can play from the start with any of the exclusive skins? Or do you need to play thru story once to unlock it? (also kinda disappointed it is a Nintendo exclusive, would much rather see it in higher quality on other consoles or pc, makes no sense especially since 2P came from Soul Calibur 6, which isn't on switch, tho it should be).
EDIT. Thankfully its right after the beginning bit, so took rougly 40 mins to unlock and use the dlc skins (including the ones i bought the game for, 2P)
Immediately best legit version of the game (that isn't the pc version that can mod 2p in with nexusmods right from the start)

So relieved that NieR Automata runs so well and looks so good on Switch. I missed this on PS4 and was thinking about picking up a copy to play via backwards compatibility on PS5. However, I just want it on my Switch. Yeah, it’s only 30fps, but it’ll be great to see it’s icon sitting next to Bayonetta, Astral Chain and The Wonderful 101. Heading over to the eShop to preorder it now!
I am SO HAPPY that this port is so good. NieR Automata has been on my radar since I've heard of the game and I hoped for so long that it would come on the Switch, and not as a Cloud version. I'm definitely getting it soon!

was new to the series since 2020... bought and played through pc, xbox, and oxp (5700u 8.4") probably more times i could count. Played through 27 endings on said platforms, and been requesting SE and Yoko Taro san to port this on the switch ever since. You could just imagine my surprise when this got announced, so pre-ordered both digital and physical (note: after buying more than 120 digitals, no physical... just got to get my hands on my very first physical game, just because of my love for the story, music, combat, and gameplay... and also, why the hell not 😉).
Hope more peeps get darwn in to the game. Its such a masterpiece of a game that people still recently discover easter eggs after years and years of playing through.
