Another amazing NieR review/discussion. I'm glad people are still making videos about the game that renewed my love for games and sparked my interest in philosophy. Thank you for the video
This. I was in a rut around the time Automata came out. I found all games boring and my interest in the medium declining🖤 glad we both had that experience
We just need more companies to make a risky story either passion and love and not another clearly created by the corporation that owns the studio type game. Would love to see gaming take a hit to see more creative games. A game with lots of mystery but at the same time always giving you lore for you to connect the dots.
It’s not better nor worse than other media, it’s just different. In video games you can provoke emotions you can’t recreate in a movie, but some things are just better in plain movies or series, while books are a whole separate thing.
Jep. Every once in a while this happens. Fromsoft and Larian walking the same path. So good to live in times where we can get the opportunity playing such immersive bits.
I didn't think it could be as good as everyone said when I picked it up on switch but... It's the most profound and emotional story I've ever experienced
Same here, but it ended up even better somehow. I'll definitely take a long break after I beat Ending E so I can re-experience this game but with a newfound understanding since this is one game that you have to watch the cutscenes for every time, even if they're skippable.
The thing I liked the most about the game is that it’s an eternal prologue bait. Beat the game once, that was the prologue. Beat the game twice, that was the prologue. The real shit starts on your third playthrough. NieR Replicant did the exact same thing, so cool
@@arturoporraz6046it stops being emotional suffering after route B. After route B I got really tired of repeating it. It didn't nail any points in any harder, in fact I thought replicant didn't really stick the landing with its main points to begin with due to the issues I had with some characters and plot choices. But basically route C shouldn't exist since they could've just put the emil text sections in route B along with kaines, made it so you beat Louise in route B, and made ending C and D obtainable after ending B. They could still make it so you need all weapons, or remove that requirement. Either way route C is completely unnecessary and makes the game feel bloated.
Bro, I’ve never played a game that had made me sob as much as Nier: automata. Every choice I had to make in the game made me take a step back and think so ducking hard that I no longer kill bugs in the real world anymore. Playing Nier automata is a trauma that I can not do justice describing to anyone in my life.
No joke, I love this game so much I cited it as a formative piece of media in my college essay and college interviews. Of course people were a bit skeptical, but I was told my method of explaining this game and music really made me a good candidate and ultimately I got in. I hate the college and I hate college as a whole, but Nier essentially helped me get into my dream school so there's that!
I just finished the game today, and this video got recommended to me right away. It was great. I sacrificed my data in the end even though I wanted to finish the side quests and collect everything, but I thought to myself "This was such an amazing story, I need to play it again" and so I will! Btw the video was great, I really enjoyed the editing, keep up!
I unfortunately didn't have internet at the time when I reached the credits. Let me tell you, it was very hard. The checkpoints kept getting further and further apart. I was losing my mind. It kept asking me if I wanted to give up. But I finally got to see ending E. (Also you can cheese this whole thing by just using a copy of your saved data, but that kinda ruins the whole point of everything.) This is definitely my favorite game of all time for reasons that every reviewer of this game has mentioned. It's honestly very saddening how few people will experience this properly. I feel even worse for those that wanted to, but have had it spoiled for them. NieR: Automata definitely isn't the only game to bring existential questions to the spotlight. SOMA did this well before, and probably other games too. But Automata took it to the extreme. Especially with the save data part at the end, where things really become more than "just a game". People have asked for a movie or an anime based on this game, but I don't think that would ever work. The reason the story does so well is precisely because it is a game. Don't even get me started on the combat, animations, music, etc. Every aspect of this game is masterful. Even though all is said and done, I can't help but want more.
@@MightyDantheman I totally agree with you, but in case you didn't know there will be a nier:automata anime, and, even though I agree that the story can't be covered the same way, I'm still really curious to see how it turns out! Btw, good job getting rid of those credits :)
Ngl what you said at 17:43 resonated with me so much, because a week after the Summer games fest and all those game reveal events that I sat and watched through, the only thing clawing at the back of my mind was "when is Yoko Taro gonna show up already?" *Sigh* guess we'll have to wait awhile longer....
Someday, a video will be made that will surpass NieR: Automata is Still the Best Game Ever Made. It might be years, it might be decades, it might not even be in our lifetime, but for now, whenever I’m asked what my current most anticipated video is, the answer is that video.
I always struggled to put a single game as my favorite of all time, until I pllayed nier automata. I cannot believe a piece of media like this can exist. Automata is the definition of underrated. Thank you for making this wonderful video.
Spoiler on the topic of "it always ends like this." Do not read before finishing the game if you are interested. 9S was first booted in 11942 (9S backstory, in-game). The year is 11945. 9S is about 3 years old. 2B has killed 9S 48 times (NieR: Orchestra Concert re:12018), whenever he approached the secret of the Moon base. All-in-all, that's an average of about 3 months between each time she had to do it. No wonder 2B was so reluctant about emotions. It _always_ ended like this.
"Everything that lives is designed to end." Even the very thing that keeps you in this perpetual circle of life and death 2b. This line really comes back around after defeating the square enix team at the end.
Actually insane how good this video is at explaining so much of the game in such a short amount of time. Would love to hear some of your thoughts on Replicant.
I didn't see how many views this had or subs you had until I finished the vid. Was expecting WAY more than there were. I think most would agree with you that it is basically impossible to do this game justice with just a video and I'm glad you really try to make that point. The overall experience with this game is so incredible and cared for that I think it's a bit scary something this good even exists. The story to the gameplay to the music is so perfectly in harmony and creates what I think is truly one of but probably THE best singular piece of media ever produced.
Thanks for making me tear up twice during this video. Got it randomly recommended and just knew it's gonna be good. And it was. NieR Automata was an experience I'll probably never get again and one can tell how much this game means to you and how much effort went into creating this video. Thank you for that! I also just looked at the numbers and was surprised that this channel hasn't blown up yet, but with this quality it definitly will eventually. Keep it up!
I'm so glad people still put their time and energy into telling people about this game. Deciding Automata was the best game I'd ever played could not have been easier. I hope to experience something so euphorically profound again someday.
As someone trying their hardest to get their feelings, thoughts, and emotions about Nier Replicant in a video, to express how this duology of games helped me, defined my personal philosophy, and improved my life, your video is amazing. It's insanely hard to convey everything that makes the Nier games the experience they are, but you've done a splendid job at it. Thanks for keeping the discussion alive, I completely agree that the videogame that is most exciting to look forward to is whatever will surpass Nier Automata's brilliance.
The thing is Nier:Automata is an experience, one that I never imagined a video would be able to convey. It's only natural that you want to share this experience and the feelings with others so they witness the same amount of joy by this piece of art. I reckon that this is one of the many reasons why so many people make video essays/reviews on this game.
Replaying it on the Switch now. It’s almost unsettling listening to 2B’s responses to 9S. Especially early on, in response to his curiosity. You can hear and understand the pain in her voice.
This game has both broken me and picked me up, in music, story and just the characters (not to talk about the designs and graphics). This game will always be my all time favourite and i'm so happy the community isn't dead.. Thank YOU for making this video and playing this awe-inspiring game
Totally agree this is the best game ever made. I'm hoping that there's a list of top best games of all time, where Nier Automata is listed on at least the top 10 (so that I can believe the list and start playing those games). I haven't found such list yet. Anyone else have better luck?
This popped up on my feed and I absolutely love watching commentary and analysis on the nier games. I first played this game when I was home for the pandemic and spent all my time on it not realizing that it’d also take my top games. It will forever be something close to my heart and I am currently playing the replicant one! Your commentary is excellent and well formatted throughout. Thank you for giving me memories about this game again and I hope your channel grows with your content and creativity!
I'm on the verge of tears for, like, the twentieth time after watching this. I haven't done that since I watched Mufasa die at the age of 5. Anyway, I get that people would record the game's English voices for a video, but everybody needs to play this game in Japanese, even if you don't understand a word of it. The emotions are on an entirely different level.
Idk man, 9S's happy go lucky attitude to desperate murder machine transformation really hits the mark in English. You can hear his insanity and its great
@@MrAnsatsuken Kyle McCarley did such an incredibly phenomenal job in his role as 9S, and honestly, in subsequent roles he's also done an incredible job.
I myself changed my entire way of thinking, living, doing things, getting along with people and much more thanks to this masterpiece This game defined what being a gamer really is, what empathy really is. I from time to time try to convince people to live this masterpiece by themselves. Ps I'm going to the concert that will be taken in 3 weeks in paris, and I have an extra ticket in case someone needs one
Another amazing video on Nier. Editing was really good. And you're probably the first person to say the same opinion I have about this game. It's not just my favourite game, it's like, my favourite thing out of everything out there lmao. Movies, tv shows, anime, whatever. Like you said, its so hard to do this game justice. Thats why Ive been struggling so much to decide upon what tattoo to get about it, like literally for months. But this video reminded me how much I love this game, so Im gonna design a few more tattoos. Hopefully I will find one!
Glory to mankind. Glory to Nier. Glory to content creators like you who dedicate love to a game I adore. Thanks for your introspective analysis of Automata, and for making this video.
im just gonna come out and say it because im here amongst people who played the game and hopefully get it. but i downloaded this game and played it while i was away on ship on a 5month contract and one night i actually turned the game off went down to the engine room sat on stairs in the boiler room and cried a bit to myself. a grown ass man of 31 over this story. its more than a game. if u get it its beyond deep. i will never forget this game and how it can evoke those emotions inside you. i have never played a game where every single little bit of paper, data side quest or writing on the wall is so relevent and actually had purpose and was worthwhile to complete. i still havent seen every single ending perhaps i should go back to it. great video pal, good go at representing the worth and importance of this game but for anyone who hasnt played it it wont make sense and the best thing i can say is just go experience this for yourself.
Spoiler Alert: Something that sticks out to me is that the game forces you to find meaning in a world seemingly devoid of any without you realizing that the meaning you are finding is predetermined through the plot setup and your gradual familiarity with the status quo, only to proceed to painfully rip it away from you just so it can force you to find your own meaning for real this time. Just about all of your expectations are subverted by the end. Even the expectation that 2B is the main character turns out to be a false assumption. The story doesn't follow the general plot flow that one would expect going into it, and just about everything that could go wrong does go wrong by the end. NieR: Automata is a game that puts you through a power trip so that it can show you how truly powerless you really are, and how little your own power matters.
Amazing. You did an amazing job capturing the way I feel about this game. Last year I finished all of Evangelion, Disco Elysium, and this game back to back. Maybe it's recency bias but man, each and every one of those has left such a mark on me as a person... They're great. Nier Automata is great.
Great analysis! I always like to discover that more people were impacted like me by Automata. I especially liked the discussion about it being "not not just a game", when you say that Automata isn't pretentious or overly self-indulgent. When I think about it, well... I feel that it kinda is, but never to an obnoxious extent; like you said, it never forget that it's a game and I it's terribly good at that too. I guess you have to be a little pretentious when you try to lift the medium up.
Had a high end level Multiculturalism class in college that was my last true project for getting my Bachelor's degree. The professor had a preset list of books like Nietzsche some how I convinced him to let me bring Automata. Coming into Nier with a multicultural perspective really brings out how well developed and thought out every aspect is. I could've taken up an entire class period with my presentation. Automata is in of itself a high level discussion about humanity and it's criminal that it probably won't ever reach the level of fame it deserves to used in discussions of philosophy, religion, and culture.
As a bonus there is a sequel to Automata directly within Final Fantasy 14, I highly recommend taking a look at at least the story and if you enjoy the philosphy side of Nier I hihgly recommend playing FF14. Endwalker straight up boils down to Nihilism vs Existentialism and you can tell the Nier crossover had a massive influence on the Endwalker storylines despite being completely optional.
Still after almost 6 years I have not seen any game like NieR:Automata and its honestly sad that there won't be anything like it in the near future with the way the gaming industry is going
Sacrificing my save and seeing ending E for the first time was such a life changing moment, I absolutely bawled my eyes out, the theme song playing in all those different languages while everyone's saves come together 😭😭 such an unbelievably touching moment that I'm so thankful to have experienced
Just stumbled upon this under the nier topic on twitter, subbed and liked. I like the editing, there are some good jokes too and you don't really see that too often with these types of videos. Can't wait for your next video!
I just beat Automata the day I’m writing this comment (08/15/22) and went on a huge content binge about the game. After watching post game analysis videos, and reading all the side content that has been released, I can confidently say Nier Automata has become one of if not the best game I’ve ever played. It’s definitely in my top five favorite games. No other game has made me think or feel more than Nier Automata. When you’re questioning the meaning of life in a god damn anime game where the main character has more polygons in her ass than most character models in other AAA games speaks volumes about what they’ve managed to create. Hopefully we get a Nier 3 at some point. Honestly I think they will make another since there’s some flavor text that references the return of the machine network. The Farewell side content also might be hinting at a possible return. Plus all that talk about killing the god who created their endless cycle can’t just mean breaking the fourth wall and erasing out save file, right? They’ve gotta be setting up some sort of final battle with the Androids who created the YoRHa Project and maybe breaking the endless cycle of violence once and for all. I NEED more from this universe. One final story to wrap it all up. I’ve already ordered Replicant and can’t wait to sink my teeth into it and see all the connections for myself.
Whenever I see somebody talking about this game. I get super emotional. I have never met anybody that played it and it makes me so happy to know that I am not alone in my love for this game and this franchise. I love seeing the many different interpretations for this game. Thank you for talking about it.
I played this game a while ago and I think that I didnt put in the effort to really understand it, and even skipping some missions and losing a lot of the history in that one playthrough its by far the best game ive ever played, i was 16 at the time now im almost 21, and i still want to play it again but now i dont have so much time to do it, when i finish the game again ill come back to rewatch this video since i didnt saw all of this game when i did played it. (Sorry for any misspell, as english is not my main language)
i remember when they first show it, i did kinda judge it for its cover too and i was like "well it is a platinum game so at least it will be fun to play..." and im so happy that i play it (finished it 4 time lol) and its sad that most people wont experience it, i love watching new reviews about it bc it shows a bit of the different players take on it, its such an amazing game and such an important game for the medium, i really hope more people play through the masterpiece that nier automata is. amazing work on the video thank you c:
Ending E in Nier Replicant renewed my appreciation for this masterpiece. Everything about the nier games are beautiful the story, gameplay, soundtrack, etc. Great video btw if anyone asked my thoughts on automata I’d show them this vid. Hope you make a vid on Replicant soon!
This man has just put into words what we have all been feeling. On top of that the video was of such high quality I found myself escape from reality for the duration and completely entranced by it. Truly amazing, you have gained a new subscriber!
This game starts as a cool futuristic Android combat game then after ending A shifts exponent. It does a complete 180 consisting a deep story tackling various psychological and mental concepts. It’s genuinely a game that shifts your view of life itself. It truly impacted me and I’m always looking through comments who feel the same way. Truly a game that will go down as one of the all time greats and imo should be a CLEAR representation that games are more than just shooters and entertainment. It can be one of the best GLORIES of MANKIND
Just watched your drakengard, nier and three houses video back to back. Holy fuck my dude your videos are actually perfect. You genuinely have incredible talent and are able to articulate my feelings towards many complicated subjects in ways I can't.
This IS my favorite video game and it has been SO long since I've played it, but this video really revived all of the emotions I have toward Automata and god I can't WAIT to 100% it again when it releases for the switch in October
I played this game shortly after I graduated High School in 2021. It was a super dark time for the world and myself at that point, with COVID, Russia vs Ukraine, figuring out my next stage in life, and getting over my final bits of depression. In the end of it all, I got Nier Automata as a graduation present and I spent the whole summer playing this game. I remember how I distinctly stayed up until 3 AM actually finishing Ending E off and I had felt emotions I hadn’t felt ever while playing a video game. I platinumed this game for the next two years, bought the soundtrack import from Japan, watched the Anime in full, tried Replicant out (which was okay but paled in comparison), and I even bought the game a second time to play on Switch on the fly. They say you can’t re-expierence Nier the same way after playing once… but much like the original FF7, its an irreplaceable video game that almost is perfect and I can NEVER get tired of. And I’ll never forgive how TGA didn’t NOMINATE this game for GOTY in 2017
Thank you so much for this. I try to explain to people why this is the most important game I’ve played in my almost 50 years and all I have to give them is “well… I can’t tell you because you have to experience it to understand…” And it just feels so good knowing I’m not alone. I teared up multiple times during your video, remembering my experiences playing this game and also just knowing that I am not crazy - or at least, not alone - in my feelings for it. Thank you.
man this game has been my favorite game for years and it still makes me feel like a lil kid on christmas when I see a video of someone appreciating it as much as I do. great video man
It makes me so happy to see people years later still making such in-depth videos on this damn near perfect game. Bravo for putting so eloquently into words what this piece of art made you feel. It’s not an easy task, in fact it’s damn near daunting and terrifying like you said but you really nailed it. Now we just need the “remakester” treatment for Drakengard 1 and 3 like they did for Nier Replicant. Particularly Drakengard 3 which I recently just hunted down the Japanese collectors edition for because I NEEDED IT in my collection and am not ashamed for how much money I spent on it lol.
There are just no words in my mind to discribe my feelings for this game. It makes me happy on a whole different level than any other thing. But mabye happy is the wrong word. I feel compleated, satisfied, whole. My heart is at peace. What a beautiful work of art.
Just finished the game this week. Already loved it but your video has only increased my appreciation and understanding of how good this thing is. Thank you :)
DEAR GOD!!! how I wish I could experience this game!! (going to rant a lot below) 15:37 yeah I agree, this game made me scream these words internally "WHY?! U R JUST A GAME....GETTING INTO MY HEAD" and in the end I had to accept what the game(and my dad) was trying to tell me all along; "the struggle in this is life is what gives it meaning, struggle tells you that u are alive" 16:52 I had to pause the game and think "tf am I doing with my life then" when the pod said that normally it's the anime series/live action series that makes me want to cry and say "pls tell me are they happy? are they living a good life? tell me what happened after the ending?" but nah, this game actually made me realize that games are not silly little things. And thank you making this video, really appreciate it. (pls guys visit do Emil's memories side quest)
I think one way to show just how amazing Keiichi Okabe's soundtrack work on both NieR games is summed up by how I started tearing up near the end of this just from hearing Weight of the World again. Kaine's Theme has the same power over me from the first game. Also I think the biggest tragedy of NieR is how many players won't see what we see because you need to approach the game on it's intellectual level or you won't get the best experience.
if i had a superpower, i'd choose being able to erase my memories selectively, so i could experience NieR:Automata like it's the first time. No game or consumable media (other than "the Gran Torino") has ever left me in the verge of tears like this game has. I didn't know i had an interest in philosophy before this game, and sparked a desire to write poetry (a talent that i'm still honing). "A future is not given to you, it is something you must take for yourself" is something i needed to be remembered of. Even though my existance is futile and meaningless, the struggle and the paths i choose are what gives meaning to it. Despite the hardships, i shall move forth, else, my existance would end up as meaningless in my eyes. NieR:Automata, the best mistake i've ever made..
Nier Automata helped me deal with the existential dread I had since my childhood. Helped me stray away from nihilism, and still does to this day. Great video, cheers.
Wow man I usually don't comment on most RUclips videos I watch but wow. Nier Automata did something to me, that truly makes me want to completely erase any memory I have of it, just so I can experience it again. You've brought up really interesting points, the most intriguing to me was how Nier plays with your expectations from beginning to the very very very end. When I went into Nier Automata, I literally didn't know what it was about, it just looked really fun to play. I enjoy going in blind, only trusting my gut feeling to decide whether I'll enjoy it or not, and hot damn did Nier make this attitude pay off big time. It's messing with you in a way that I have only seen video games accomplish so far (with the sole exception being Steins Gate anime (to be fair, I don't watch a lot of non-anime shows, so I'm biased)). I don't remember what point I was trying to make but I think you did the game justice. Although you made realise with your very human style here, that it is literally impossible for a single person to truly and fully make it justice because of how dense and packed it is. Just makes me wonder how incredible the guys behind this game must be. Anyhow enough from me, this comment probably doesn't have head nor tail lol thanks so much for the video and your effort to make it happen! You're a legend :D
Love you for using Re[in]carnation music. People don’t give it enough credits (rightfully so) because of the gacha nature, but it has some serious potential, especially in the music.
As a philosophy first class honors graduate. This video is infinitly better constructed than any of my essays on the work automata builds upon. You sir, are a philosopher.
Nier automata is one of the greatest games I've ever played and one of the 3 stories that have ever made me cry. I originally downloaded this game as a joke bc I was bored and was like "haha hot anime girl game" and boy was I surprised. This game straight up changed me dude, For better or worse. I will never forget this game it has left such a big impact on how I think and feel. I wish I could get my friends to play this game
hehe, i also ended up playing this game thanks to that mentality. oh boy, nobody prepared me for such a trip. even though i completed this game for the first time almost a year ago, everytime i remember the soundtrack, i feel the emotions as fresh as i experienced for the first time, and it always feel like i wanna cry. NieR:Automata, the best mistake i've ever made...
Didn’t even realize this game was one of my favorite games until I was talking about games with best story. NA. Then we talked about favorite gameplay. NA… ok what about games with favorite music? NA…….. best graphics? Ok not NA but I think it has my favorite balance of graphics with flexibility. But artwork? NA is up there. Games that changed me? NA. Oh my gosh is NA my favorite game? The only thing holding it back is nostalgia.
I’m going to be perfectly honest. I played automata all the way to the secret ending and I’m here looking for why people enjoyed it so much. It did not click for me at all I assumed I was missing something because of how many people praise it as “the most philosophical game ever made”.
Unfortunately I feel similarly. While the story worked for me and there were numerous fantastic ideas throughout, the gameplay just wasn‘t that fun for me and it was a bit of a chore finishing it. The length felt like it diluted the quality the game has in parts and I too am here to try to understand how I can be in the vast majority with this.
Automata's soundtrack popped up one day on my Spotify and I enjoyed it so much so I decided to buy the game. I thought I knew what to expect... I didn't and I appreciate it with my whole heart and soul. This was amazing journey not only in game but in my mind as well. No words can describe how much I love this game. Thank you for this video, I believe more people will play Automata after watching it. This game deserves it.
If our humanity faced extinction and we had to vote what legacy or data we can save through an archetype of Noah's Ark to the next cycle of life and death, NieR: Automata would've gotten my vote with no doubt in heart.
I am so happy that people have not forgotten about this masterpiece. This game changed my life. And I am incredibly glad that I am not the only one, who can appreciate the beauty of this game.
While nier was truly a journey..i gotta give you credit for this excellent video that made me recontextualize my journey with nier automata, and retrace old elements i never noticed, in a really concise, fun and well paced manner.
I beat Automata a few months after release. And it is to this day, one of a handful of games to actually break me. The hectic fight through the tower, leading to the finale, and then finally the credits combined with the music, after dozens of hours of playing, just got to me. I was honestly in two minds about it being over. Because I subconsciously had finally worked out what the game was trying to tell us, and the ending is a perfect send off, but at the same time there were questions I still had about the world and the characters, and the how and the why of it all. The game is truly a masterpiece. While playing it, in routes A, B and most of C I still stayed in voice chats with friends, taking the game in and trying to make sense of it all. But at some point I stopped doing that, not consciously or anything. I just stopped talking to people while playing the game. I think that's the point the themes had started to set in for me and I was starting to appreciate the game for everything it was. I needed to be alone, the game had questions for me and I had to think about those. It's about time I went back through this game. But I don't know if it'll ever hit like it did before. And that, weirdly enough, scares me more than most things. That feeling of finally finding a game that actually knows how to present drama and meaning like this in a way that got me crying happy tears is honestly still kind of unmatched by almost all other media I've consumed and I don't want to forget it. Thanks for the video, it put to words some feelings about the game that I was genuinely struggling to explain to others.
If you're worried about having it hit like before, I highly recommend playing NieR: Replicant before going back to it (if you haven't already). It will make the replay hit differently and possibly even harder than before.
@@ConstantlyCaden I've been meaning to get around to actually playing Replicant! Despite knowing how it goes down for the most part, playing these games usually gets me to see them in a whole new light. Yoko Taro is a magician of some sort I swear. Absolutely understands what the medium can do and how to do it.
I remember the first time i played this game, it was an experiencie i´ve never had before, and i will forever cherish it, thank you for making this amazing video
Subscribed! This review is Fantastic and surprised at your low number of subscribers. This game is a masterpiece and glad other people felt the same!! I believe this game will be discussed in the future when AI and robots are in our every day lives, and it will be discussed in philosophy classes. It was the most profound video game I have ever played and it is why this is my number 1. I have played and own thousands of games growing up in the 80s with Atari and Nintendo. And when SNES came out with Chrono Trigger (time travel) with various endings depending on your choices led me to hold that game as my number #1 for about 20yrs. But Nier Automata crushed my childhood game that brought a different meaning and perspective about life with various endings. Chrono Trigger molded and shaped my thoughts, which eventually brought this game that brought tears to me and I couldn’t understand why- except to ponder what could top this??? Bravo and keep up the great work. I Highly recommend giving Dark Souls, Demon Souls genre and my 3rd favorite game all time -Bloodborne a try for its story, gameplay, and music.
This game has the best story of any, like it truly changed the way I look at things, peoples emotions and there feelings day to day. I feel this game has made me somewhat a better person for whatever its worth.
It's truly incredible how much players have gotten out of it

I can't even. I tried to convince people to play Nier:Automata but they stopped after a few hours of playing. They stopped playing convinced this is just another hack and slash without deeper meaning. I am so sad that they not only will never understand why they miss out one of the rarest experiences in gaming but also think I recommend a mediocre game to them. When in reality I pointed them to a masterpiece of art. On the other hand this is what moves me to tears when I play through ending e knowing that even if I don't know a lot of people who did the same, we that we did, share a connection that overcomes all borders. This is the true meaning of Nier: Automata for me. And of course all the other awesome stuff that was so perfectly summarized in this video. Thanks you @constantlycaden for sharing.
Another amazing NieR review/discussion. I'm glad people are still making videos about the game that renewed my love for games and sparked my interest in philosophy. Thank you for the video
This.
This. I was in a rut around the time Automata came out. I found all games boring and my interest in the medium declining🖤 glad we both had that experience
NieR: Automata and Witcher 3 are the modern games that reignited my love for videogames. I love them both for bringing that passion back to me.
I played NieR during one of the lowest points in my life.. and honestly the ending changed me so much.
Nier Autómata reinforces my belief that video games is the most powerful medium we have to design with.
PUT YOUR CONTROLLER ON THE FLOOR
@@Idk_imagine_a_cool_name I agree with this ultimately.
Jep. Every once in a while this happens. Fromsoft and Larian walking the same path. So good to live in times where we can get the opportunity playing such immersive bits.
"If a lamp in a video game uses real electricity, doesnt a 2B?"
And just like that, this lads a genius.
I didn't think it could be as good as everyone said when I picked it up on switch but...
It's the most profound and emotional story I've ever experienced
I could 100% relate this. It also changed my perception of life, it made me realize so many things.
@@humppa5 it's such an eye opener truly
I just ordered it on azon.. Never played any of the Nier games.
@@Popirnot it literally is
Same here, but it ended up even better somehow.
Imo replicant didn't need a 3rd playthroigh. It only adds some scenes with devola and popola which could’ve been cramed into second playthrough.
@@returnedtomonkey8886 no, Yoko Taro wanted us to go through all this suffering 4 times
Powerful 💫
Go play Okami and wait until halfway through the end boss...
Same man, I have never cried to anything as much as I have to Nier Automata...
What a beautiful, beautiful masterpiece.
Actually got stuck in awe while I had to make a choice about "Pascal tragedy" (avoiding spoilers)
Truly masterful game
No joke, I love this game so much I cited it as a formative piece of media in my college essay and college interviews. Of course people were a bit skeptical, but I was told my method of explaining this game and music really made me a good candidate and ultimately I got in.
I hate the college and I hate college as a whole, but Nier essentially helped me get into my dream school so there's that!
Praise Yoko taro lol
I just finished the game today, and this video got recommended to me right away. It was great. I sacrificed my data in the end even though I wanted to finish the side quests and collect everything, but I thought to myself "This was such an amazing story, I need to play it again" and so I will! Btw the video was great, I really enjoyed the editing, keep up!
That's awesome! I thought the exact same way when I first played
Yes.
Just started playing my new save, still having a blast with this masterpiece. ^-^
I unfortunately didn't have internet at the time when I reached the credits. Let me tell you, it was very hard. The checkpoints kept getting further and further apart. I was losing my mind. It kept asking me if I wanted to give up. But I finally got to see ending E.
(Also you can cheese this whole thing by just using a copy of your saved data, but that kinda ruins the whole point of everything.)
This is definitely my favorite game of all time for reasons that every reviewer of this game has mentioned.
@Mackrator thought of doing the same, but felt like it was "cheating" so I didn't xD I just get way too invested in the world
one of the best videos for one of the best games
Thank you so much!!
didnt expect to find you here lol
one of? oh i understand you meant to say the best
I've watched you a bunch over the years, great to see you have great taste and great taste.
@@diamondkey3727 no he definitely meant one of.Unfortunately ff, dragon quest, yakuza, persona, smt and kh still exist.
Keep it up!
Wow! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it, glad you enjoyed :)
I'm so glad people still put their time and energy into telling people about this game. Deciding Automata was the best game I'd ever played could not have been easier. I hope to experience something so euphorically profound again someday.
Really glad people are still making such amazing videos about Automata, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!
there's gonna be more when it finally releases on Switch
The way you crafted your words made this video that much more special. Watching this after just completing the true ending. Loved every second of it!
This game has both broken me and picked me up, in music, story and just the characters (not to talk about the designs and graphics). This game will always be my all time favourite and i'm so happy the community isn't dead.. Thank YOU for making this video and playing this awe-inspiring game
im literally 2 seconds in and crying because of the flood of emotions and memories those notes bring to mind. god damn i love this game
I had to go and wipe my tears after few city ruins notes...
Totally agree this is the best game ever made. I'm hoping that there's a list of top best games of all time, where Nier Automata is listed on at least the top 10 (so that I can believe the list and start playing those games). I haven't found such list yet. Anyone else have better luck?
nope, im searching that too :(
too many games are arguably better, so you'll be doing this a long time.
I heavily disagree.
9S' English voice acting has way more emotion.
One of the best voice performances in any videogame ever, really.
@@MrAnsatsuken I don't know, the English voices always sound flat on facebook. But I'll try it.
@@MrAnsatsuken both japanese and english voice actor in nier automata are just flexing to each other, not gonna lie I feel that way that is the case
I myself changed my entire way of thinking, living, doing things, getting along with people and much more thanks to this masterpiece
This game defined what being a gamer really is, what empathy really is.
I from time to time try to convince people to live this masterpiece by themselves.
Ps I'm going to the concert that will be taken in 3 weeks in paris, and I have an extra ticket in case someone needs one
I attended the concert in LA, it was great! I hope you enjoy :)
Spoiler Alert:
Something that sticks out to me is that the game forces you to find meaning in a world seemingly devoid of any without you realizing that the meaning you are finding is predetermined through the plot setup and your gradual familiarity with the status quo, only to proceed to painfully rip it away from you just so it can force you to find your own meaning for real this time.
Endwalker straight up boils down to Nihilism vs Existentialism and you can tell the Nier crossover had a massive influence on the Endwalker storylines despite being completely optional.
bro put their professor and classmates on this masterpiece W
Post the essay bro
Still after almost 6 years I have not seen any game like NieR:Automata and its honestly sad that there won't be anything like it in the near future with the way the gaming industry is going
This game is goat for me. Ive never cried so much to a game or anything. When 2B said "Its Yorha time" i clapped and cheered. 😢😢😢
Sacrificing my save and seeing ending E for the first time was such a life changing moment, I absolutely bawled my eyes out, the theme song playing in all those different languages while everyone's saves come together 😭😭 such an unbelievably touching moment that I'm so thankful to have experienced
I still think about this game years after finishing it... Thanks for the video. I hope your channel takes off!
Thank you so much! :)
I love this game so much , it makes me sad thinking about that I will never get to experience the story like it was the first time playing it...
**looks at title**
Oh, I thought that went without saying.
How I wish I could play this game for the first time again
What an amazing video man. I can't wait to see see your take on Replicant now
I played this game a while ago and I think that I didnt put in the effort to really understand it, and even skipping some missions and losing a lot of the history in that one playthrough its by far the best game ive ever played, i was 16 at the time now im almost 21, and i still want to play it again but now i dont have so much time to do it, when i finish the game again ill come back to rewatch this video since i didnt saw all of this game when i did played it. (Sorry for any misspell, as english is not my main language)
i remember when they first show it, i did kinda judge it for its cover too and i was like "well it is a platinum game so at least it will be fun to play..." and im so happy that i play it (finished it 4 time lol) and its sad that most people wont experience it, i love watching new reviews about it bc it shows a bit of the different players take on it, its such an amazing game and such an important game for the medium, i really hope more people play through the masterpiece that nier automata is. amazing work on the video thank you c:
absolutely and criminally underrated channel, how you only have about 7k subs right now is beyond me
Ending E in Nier Replicant renewed my appreciation for this masterpiece. Everything about the nier games are beautiful the story, gameplay, soundtrack, etc. Great video btw if anyone asked my thoughts on automata I’d show them this vid. Hope you make a vid on Replicant soon!
You have a fresh way of presenting yourself that keeps me engaged. I appreciate that.
Certainly didn’t expect such a high quality video from such a small channel. I tip my hat to you.
You've tightly, neatly wrapped up and bow tied everything I've ever loved about Automata. Thank you so much.
Nier: Automata is and will continue to be the GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME. Nothing will ever get on the same level of existence as this masterpiece.
Thank you for this review. When I finished Nier Automata last 2018 I said after finishing it that this is the game of our generation.
And I’ll never forgive how TGA didn’t NOMINATE this game for GOTY in 2017
👍👍
Thank you so much for this.
I try to explain to people why this is the most important game I’ve played in my almost 50 years and all I have to give them is “well… I can’t tell you because you have to experience it to understand…”
And it just feels so good knowing I’m not alone.
I teared up multiple times during your video, remembering my experiences playing this game and also just knowing that I am not crazy - or at least, not alone - in my feelings for it.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching!! I'm so glad you enjoyed :)
man this game has been my favorite game for years and it still makes me feel like a lil kid on christmas when I see a video of someone appreciating it as much as I do. great video man
It makes me so happy to see people years later still making such in-depth videos on this damn near perfect game.
Instant sub! I ask for amazing video essays of deep lores of games and films, and RUclips delivers again.
Glory to you, man... for now
Just finished the game this week. Already loved it but your video has only increased my appreciation and understanding of how good this thing is. Thank you :)
DEAR GOD!!! how I wish I could experience this game!! (going to rant a lot below)
15:37 yeah I agree, this game made me scream these words internally "WHY?! U R JUST A GAME....GETTING INTO MY HEAD" and in the end I had to accept what the game(and my dad) was trying to tell me all along; "the struggle in this is life is what gives it meaning, struggle tells you that u are alive"
16:52 I had to pause the game and think "tf am I doing with my life then" when the pod said that
normally it's the anime series/live action series that makes me want to cry and say "pls tell me are they happy? are they living a good life? tell me what happened after the ending?" but nah, this game actually made me realize that games are not silly little things.
And thank you making this video, really appreciate it.
(pls guys visit do Emil's memories side quest)
This is a great video!! Very high quality. Wish the best for your channel
Excellent video, great analysis, and very good takes on one of the best games ever made.
Nier Automata helped me deal with the existential dread I had since my childhood. Helped me stray away from nihilism, and still does to this day. Great video, cheers.
Hearing you talk about the game I so deeply love actually brought tears to my eyes at so many points. Thank you
_"Sometimes it's a RPG"_ while showing fishing is 11/10!
Wow, I'm speechless, thank you SO much! :)
Great work with this! I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the game in an indepth way, very well done!
2017 was the year of the video game. We had Nier Automata, Horizon Zero Dawn, Breath of the Wild and Persona 5.
People that don’t play this game really have no idea what their missing. Great video!!
God just starting with that song hits me so hard. It's almost as if the world stops spinning for a second once that first chord plays
Dude I hope your channel grows fast. The video quality is insane good!
I now feel like Cooper from Interstellar when he cried watching his children messages.
If our humanity faced extinction and we had to vote what legacy or data we can save through an archetype of Noah's Ark to the next cycle of life and death,
NieR: Automata would've gotten my vote with no doubt in heart.
Dang. It's been years since I played Automata and it still brings nostalgia and tears to me.
I love this game. Video did it justice, should do a part 2
Great video, thanks for making me cry again.
Literally on of the best videos on NieR: Autmata
