Nihilism is the belief that our individual lives ultimately have no meaning at all - it basically forsakes the values of individualism. With this in mind, Nier: Automata is more a story about rising against Nihilism, and finding individualism in a world that forsakes it.
Steel, could of been better said but basically, if life has no meaning than give it a meaning through your actions, if there's no God than stop expecting him to help you and improve the world around you through your own action. Don't let the beliefs of those that came before you stop you from advancing to better future. Basically the game is about taking control of your own destiny, giving meaning to your own existence, and creating hope where there is none.
@@ultragamer4465 Not even that. The definition of Nihilism is that Life has no intrisic meaning, but this isn't negative, it's a neutral fact. To Nietzsche (arguably, the most influential person ever to use the word nihilism) Nihilism is the source of everything that is good. Understanding that Life has no meaning can lead you to be a depressed lost soul, but only if you miss the fact that this lack of meaning means that you have infinite possibilities to pursue. Essentially "If there is no God, I am my own God". The whole game can be read in this way, with the Aliens and Humans being the outdated values of the old days that are still being used to give a meaning to people (it's quite literally a parallel to how Nietzsche sees religions) and the machines getting out of the Matrix and the Androids capable of giving up their orders are the "Positive nihilists".
Their was a lot of things throughout the story that 9S kept to himself. I wouldn't be surprised if he caught onto the death-loop he was in and did have thoughts of killing 2B. Who knows, he's been killed so many times, maybe he has tried to kill 2B in the past but never came out successful.
@@MrMoon-hy6pn I've actually heard that it is "kill", because the equivalent line in Japanese was censored differently, with the Japanese word for "kill" being the one that would fit the censorship.

I need to congratulate you, the way you review the games is just hilarious but at the same time, you stroke at the core of the games intention, you really show how beautiful this game is, is amazing.
'A Beautiful Song' was so powerful for me, I love J'nique Nicole's vocals + Okabe's composition which I thougt amazingly reflected the confusion that 2B and 9S are feeling, fighting the corpses of their own companions, as well as the agony that Simone (the opera boss) is feeling as you find out more about her. Automata is one of my favorite games and I loved this video!

@TipoIrritable honestly cyberpunk is kinda mid. I mean, the genre is pretty cool, but I feel it's best in movies. The cyberpunk videogame just kinda fell flat for me.
Masterpiece of a game... the controls are so tight, beautiful graphics & music, and it has a crazy, original story that gives you pause at times. First game since PS1/N64 era in contention for GOAT. Also, the editing on this vid is on point!
if you do have the oportunity at some point, do play it, you will be surprised, it starts and build slowly, but when you reach a certain point the game becomes a beast.
I had never heard of this channel. I stumbled on this completely by chance, but i gotta say the editing was gold. It blended so perfectly with every bit of the script. The visuals never detracted from the script, it only enhanced the experience, to the point where i was often actually smiling or outright laughing at what i was hearing and seeing. As for the commentary itself, it's a refreshing new take on the "videogame review" archetype and i like how honest your comments are. It's been a long time since i played Nier:Automata so I already knew pretty much everything there is to know about the game but this perspective of a "backseat gamer" made it interesting again. All in all i just wanna say i really enjoyed the video. Liked and subbed.

Its been over a year since i beat Nier: Automato. Every time i hear the music, i still have a mini break down.

I've never hit the play button so fast. Certainly my favorite game of 2017.
Such an amazing game
Favourite game each year for me
I beat a few times before seeing this, and still watched this, and still got the feels, and you have a new subscriber
When taking everything into account, the narrative, gameplay, music, art, I can't believe more people don't consider this the best game of all time.
It's easily one of the best games I've ever played but I also agree it's not for everyone.
It is without question, the best game of all time, and the best argument for games as high art ever created.
This has nothing to do with anything

Nier:Automata and Persona 5 certainly elevated the medium into new musical heights
Also Nioh an Gravity rush 2
God damn, I played through most of these games on this comment thread but didn't realize they all came out on 2017. Incredible year for gaming hands down! Damn.
You guys have to do Persona 5, I know it’s a really really really long game but it’s worth it. The game is beautiful and is a must play. I myself have sunk over 120 hours!

Nihilism is the belief that our individual lives ultimately have no meaning at all - it basically forsakes the values of individualism.
With this in mind, Nier: Automata is more a story about rising against Nihilism, and finding individualism in a world that forsakes it.
I think it's about having balls to make choices and take responsibility
Steel, could of been better said but basically, if life has no meaning than give it a meaning through your actions, if there's no God than stop expecting him to help you and improve the world around you through your own action. Don't let the beliefs of those that came before you stop you from advancing to better future. Basically the game is about taking control of your own destiny, giving meaning to your own existence, and creating hope where there is none.
nihilistic optimism you mean

@@josephrettke7873 oh sweet summer child.
@@Acorn_Anomaly I think it's kept ambiguous on purpose, but the four letter word I like the best if I had to pick one would be 'save'. 'Kill' makes a lot of sense too, I think.

Oh, lordy. This is some of the best content EVER. Laughs were had. Thanks for them.
Love it or hate it. That is because it is a very original rpg.
The story is beautiful, so is the music.
The quests can be funny but also very sad.
The gameplay can take some time to get used to but after playing a while u will find out there is much more to it than it seems.

The choir that’s added once you accept help from the other players is actually made up of the dev team
Yeah, that was an amazing detail to find out.
“Player must learn her steps. In a dance to the death...” that was beautifully well said.

Nier Automata in a nutshell
Me : Miss, you dropped this.
2B : You can keep it.
*Now I have a depression*
