This, alongside Persona 5, was the reason why I got a PS4, so I'm glad both games are coming to Switch this month. I would say, I don't understand why people call it playing the game multiple times, it's just that the game isn't over after you see the credits, you'll be seeing them multiple times, but it's not that you have to start a new save or anything, you just continue where you left off. It's probably because the game calls them "endings", but it's not like you have to replay the exact same thing multiple times.
Ah, that's a much better explanation. I haven't played the game, so I always assumed you'd have to play the whole game again from the start, which confused me.

I picked up the game a week ago cause so many people recommended it but I have to say what started out as a fun game turned into complete bullshit! When the resistance camp burns down you are stuck having to fight several very difficult bosses and you cannot purchase heals or items or weapon upgrades and then the game just ends. A video game shouldn’t purposefully screw you over in order to make it more difficult. That’s shitty game design.
Also there are long segments with no saving and you can’t even change your chip setup. The fact that you lose chips if you don’t recover your body is also unnecessary. If the game was straightforward then it would be fine. But it wasn’t. I collect all these materials and funds then I can’t even fucking use them. This might sound dramatic, but I sincerely believe that a 9 out of 10 is completely underselling this game. I played this game late into 2017 after having enjoyed some of the greatest games to come out in such a stellar year for gaming. Yet all the games I played that year, and really, my entire life, made me question if NieR Automata was the only game to truly understand it’s position as a video game. Every traditional element commonly represented in video games such as art, music, and storytelling are represented here in a way that could not be done outside the medium of video games. Almost every piece of music has multiple layers and unique remixes which dynamically fluctuate with the intensity of either the combat or the story. And the story that NieR Automata tells is one that couldn’t have the same impact we’re it to be retold in either a book or movie. Anybody who’s played to the end knows what I’m talking about. NieR Automata is the only game I’ve played that pushes all the aspects of the medium to the fullest, and creates an experience worthy of the decades of maturity that video games have experienced. Just as a painting cannot be transposed into music, the experience that is NieR Automata cannot be recreated through any other medium. It is purely, and wholly, a video game. It is what the industry has been building up to. Anybody who wants to experience what video games are uniquely capable of being should play this game. 10 out of 10.
@@david_8916 To me, the Xenoblade games have always tried to be what Nier is but never quite achieve that. XC3 being the closest I guess. I just really don't like how the plot and message is so "in your face". Every single Xenoblade game I've played, I've guessed pretty much the whole plot in the first 5-10 hours... While Nier was much more difficult to analyze until the plot points actually happened. Both Nier and XC3 especially seem to focus on existentialism but XC3 just isn't subtle at all. Although there are some really good scenes relating to that theme too. I'd like to hear if anyone else feels the same way :0
I also played Nier Automata on PS4 at the end of 2020 because I was disappointed by Cyberpunk2077... When you, Zion, were talking about story and emotions it brought you and how it changed you, while OST was playing in background, it brought so many of memories that it brought me to tears. And yeah... multiple playthroughs are MUST and are A LOT different than previous ones.
I just bought this game, got to say, combining the hori controller with turbo function, the pod will fire automatically, it is insanely fun. Also I haven’t experienced any fps drop with my original switch in handheld mode, which is amazing.
Probably because they wanted to have everything done in time for Sara's smash release. Not defending them of course, they should've been ports. But that's the only reason I could think of

I bought this game years game on Steam and never got around to playing it. So, I'm extremely happy that it's coming to Switch where I play most of my games these days. All of my friends say it's a legendary masterpiece!
NieR is one of the best games I have ever played, there is nothing else quite like it. It's a shame that a lot of people stopped playing after the first ending which is only a small portion of the game.
this is the result of lower res textures and shadows, and removal of additional lighting effects, to make it optimal for switch.. happy accident that i am also all for; in combination with the switch's smaller display, this makes nier look crisspppp
Piracy being common in my 3rd world home country, I played this game on my pc at that time. It blew me away. Now I preordered it on my switch now that I am in the US, definitely deserve the money, plus looks like it’s gonna be fun playing again this time in handheld.
One of the greatest games ever made, with a truly amazing soundtrack to complement it. Nier Automata is one of my most treasured gaming experiences. If I was to recommend any single game out of the thousands I have played in my lifetime, it would be this one.
i took the switch over the ps4 only for botw but was still a little sad missing out on games like nier automata, even when i was able to play it on pc it wasn't great cause the pc version isn't great and my pc is very low end so hearing that it will run well on switch is great for me, especially since i'll be able to just quckly launch the game and run around with no purpose just the feeling of the game, and they even announced the other rpg i was passing on, persona 5, conclusion is choosing the switch was the greatest option for me

Blows my mind that this and No Man’s Sky are exist as native ports on Switch but Resident Evil, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and The whole damn Kingdom Hearts series are cloud games only????
It’s just developers being lazy as hell. resident evil 7 could definitely work on the switch, ugh I really wish we could get that game officially and not cloud
It’s unfortunate, but not every dev wants to put in effort or truly cares for switch ): I’m still holding out hope that tomb raider, dishonored, rdr & 2, and gta v would somehow come on switch they are all old games and if optimized correctly it would run perfectly just like nier is..but that’s too much to ask… 😢
I agree I'm happy about this game being on the switch but I agree Kingdom Hearts deserve alot better I understand the difficulty of getting 2.8 and 3 on there but why 1.5 and 2.5 just simply release both separately like they did on the PS3 and it could easily work
People who are playing the game for the first time. Just know that this game will emotionally touch you. It will make you cry and feel things. And that is okay, just feel it.
Idk. I tried playing it on ps4. Got to the first major boss about 45 minutes in and died. Was shocked when it sent me back to the title screen. There’s literally no save spots at all before the first 45 minutes of the game. And EVERY time you die on the first boss you have to redo that ENTIRE 45 minutes again every time. I’m sorry, but after that I don’t feel like even trying again.
Excuse me?? And they didn't even mention that in the review? Sheesh. I've had it with all those 8/10, 9/10 "reviews" in which all they do is praise games or describe the mechanics. 😕 Where's the review part?
Thanks for the information. Was going to buy this, since everyone raves about it, but the fact you can’t save when you want means I will not be buying it.
What should also be mentioned is that this game's soundtrack is fantastic. I recommend just looking that up on RUclips, but it's great listening to it in the game too.
this game is worth buying for the soundtrack alone + this version comes with all the DLC. i envy people who are playing this for the first time. i wish i could forget everything just to experience it all over again.
Seriously, I’ve just been on this for Steam Deck (like 10 mins ago) and even compared to RUclips they are not far apart. A bit softer on Switch but if you’ve got an Switch OLED this could be the version to play in handheld. Stunning is overused but just how did they do it?

Good review. I played it on PS4 and was curious about the graphics and gameplay on Switch. A little spoilerfree correction: The YorHa units aren't staying at the Moon. They're staying at the Bunker close to the Moon since the last humans live on the moon and they're created to protect them and reclaim the earth from the machines.
As someone who has only played the FFXIV alliance raid inspired by Nier (co-designed by Yoko Taro) and hasn't really gotten much out of it, I am now curious about the actual game once I heard about its storytelling. I know a few people who absolutely love Nier and I have never understood what the fuss was about. Now I might actually play this because I am quite intrigued!
The alliance raid doesn’t do it justice. It’s just a cool cameo if you played the game. The actually game is so amazing. One of the best experience I’ve ever had. Loved it and definitely recommend giving it a try. I almost didn’t buy it when it came out on and so glad I took a chance not knowing anything about it.
We can't really tell you what the fuss is about without spoiling it, but NieR: Automata truly has one of the most unique and impactful stories you can find in an RPG. The world, story, and game mechanics are also blended together so creatively and perfectly that you just have to see it for yourself.
Ok, so, I hit the buy button hesitantly..... finished the intro this far.... AND WOW....I do NOT regret my decision so far. David, I think you might be right on this one 👍
I already own Nier Automata on PS4, Steam and Xbox, but I ordered it also on the Switch to support Yoko Taro and eventually get next Nier/Drakengard game 😊
I do plan on getting this version regardless. Thank you for letting us know automata runs great on the switch. However, once this version was announced, it was getting pushed kinda hard. New cosmetics, new art work, (semi-unrelated) the whole church mod thing. What I want to know is if Taro added a little something extra that isn't in any version except the switch. A small new area added? A new boss? A reference to replicants ending E? Was there anything like that? Again, I'm still getting this version of automata regardless, it just feels like it would be a waste of promotion if there wasn't. Especially to fans who already played it.
Bought this game and I’m only past the first initial flight level and I can tell u already I’m literally hooked. Massive props to Square Enix and the teams who made this masterpiece of a game. Edit: My suggestion would be to start the game on Hard difficulty right off the bat. It’s a real challenge and that’s prolly why hours into the game and only at the part where you fight the initial set of robots ..lol, but i found it to be an extremely rewarding experience thus far.
I suggest the opposite for most people who just want to enjoy the game/story, start on easy because you can't save for the first hour of the game and if you die a few times and aren't committed you will just leave and not come back. Once U get past the intro and saved, flip it onto normal.
I spent close to 28 hours on the first hour of the game. The last boss was hard as fuck. I will admit my motivation dwindled beyond the first hour from burn out. First hour is worth it tho.

This really is one of the greatest games ever made. Hard to want to play it on the switch considering the graphics are gorgeous on PC and PlayStation, but it is amazing that it's able to run so smooth on the switch and reach an even broader audience.
I still lend out my ps4 copy and try to make everyone in my life play this game bc I'll never pick it up again myself. Just will never be the same after the first time. Now I'm just trying to share the story with others.
Since the ports of both Bayonetta 1 and 2 came to Switch, I've been keeping up with Platinum and their games they released on the Switch. And it was only a few months ago that I heard that this game was made by Platinum and I can't wait to try it soon along with Bayonetta 3
A lot of people are all thanking Square Enix and Platinum Game for this game coming for the Switch but can we give a big credit to the game company Virtuos who not only is the one that is responsible for porting the game but did an amazing job to a point where it looks like a native title for the Switch.
I final gave this a chance. SE hasn't really been hitting out of the park for me in recent years, but this game has me hooked. I'm only 3 hours or so in and I can't stop playing.

I kept putting off this game for so long. Put it off for ps4, thinking that I'll get it on pc someday. Wishlisted it on steam, and it sat there doing nothing because I heard the pc port was problematic (at the time) and I didn't want to bother fixing it myself. Then got a job away from home, decided to get a switch to fill the void of being away from my pc and ps4, and FINALLY, decided to pick this game up as one of my first game purchases for it. Now 25 hours in, on Route B and so far, zero regrets. Might replay this on pc one day.
I’m biting the bullet and getting the OLED when I go and pick this up. I only play in handheld anyways so I figure it will be worth it. My Switch I’ve had since launch has been really good to me. It’s gonna be sad to let it go.
For the people who played How sad/emotional the game is? Or is it closer to crazy shit like DMC and MGR? Honestly i know nothing about the game other than It's a masterpiece 2B hot Philosophy Opera boss Kickass soundtrack 26 endings
I am not particularly emotionally-attached to games such as this, but this game had some moments that spurred some deep emotions in me. The revalations start once the mid-game is reached when the bigger picture begins to take shape. The subsequent playthroughs reveal even more. It isn't depressing; it's melancholy, meaning it is sad but necessary. Lots of hidden depth in what it means to play a game like this. It has very good, if a little abstract storytelling. Don't worry about the endings. Most of them are triggered by silly things you wouldn't think of doing and are mostly there for amusement. A few do give you some insight on the meaning behind your existence as a player. Yes, it's a meta game, but it isn't pretentious about it. P.S. The music plays a big role in the mood.
It is sad but at the same time wholesome, touching, giving hope, comforting and with catharsis in the end (on contrary to the original Nier pre Remaster which was without hope in the end). But be prepared to be on an emotional roller coaster for about 30 hours.

And if you're like me, and you don't have the consoles required, just watch the playthrough and you may find yourself having a new addiction by the end of it.

I honestly feel the same way with Xenoblade games. They don't get the praise they deserve
@@david_8916 100% agreed!
I'm shocked how good this looks on Switch considering the way outdated hardware. Fantastic port by Virtuos :-)
I just bought this game, got to say, combining the hori controller with turbo function, the pod will fire automatically, it is insanely fun. Also I haven’t experienced any fps drop with my original switch in handheld mode, which is amazing.
That's really good to know about the Hori pad, I also have one and I'm thinking of getting the game soon
I will never understand how square enix ported this to switch and not native kingdom hearts. Why :/
Absolutely this... Some people clearly make dubious decisions...
Because the people behind kingdom hearts are complete shit. And nier is also platnium and platnium knows what they are doing
Probably because they wanted to have everything done in time for Sara's smash release. Not defending them of course, they should've been ports. But that's the only reason I could think of
Kingdom heart is a dumpster fire game compared to nier.. cmon..

i took the switch over the ps4 only for botw but was still a little sad missing out on games like nier automata, even when i was able to play it on pc it wasn't great cause the pc version isn't great and my pc is very low end so hearing that it will run well on switch is great for me, especially since i'll be able to just quckly launch the game and run around with no purpose just the feeling of the game, and they even announced the other rpg i was passing on, persona 5, conclusion is choosing the switch was the greatest option for me

There’s literally no save spots at all before the first 45 minutes of the game. And EVERY time you die on the first boss you have to redo that ENTIRE 45 minutes again every time. I’m sorry, but after that I don’t feel like even trying again.

As someone who has only played the FFXIV alliance raid inspired by Nier (co-designed by Yoko Taro) and hasn't really gotten much out of it, I am now curious about the actual game once I heard about its storytelling. We can't really tell you what the fuss is about without spoiling it, but NieR: Automata truly has one of the most unique and impactful stories you can find in an RPG.

I surprise everyone I know when I say that Nier: Automata (and its prequel Nier: Replicant) is my favourite game ever, BUT I never played it, not even once. I have seen the complete playthrough of it and fell in love with the story and how deep it was.
