I love buying from Fragrancenet. Never had a problem with anything of theirs. I would recommend springing for the upgraded shipping--it's an additional $3.95, but the bottles will usually make it to me in about three business days.

Testers are a very effective way to save on high end frags. Have several. Beauty Encounter is another totally legit source in addition to ones mentioned. Bought SMW just recently from them. Completely authentic. 👍🏻

I've gotten fake samples that were Creed's . Yes, makes no sense to me.
So if they make fake samples, then they can make fake testers.
Not all the samples I got from the wholesalers/drop shippers are fake, most were decent ,
but some shit does slip through.

The United States are a heaven for purchasing everything on discounts :) What we have in Serbia when it comes to ''testers'' are some Turkish copies of famous fragrances which last about 2.5min on your skin. They also come in white boxes, but every other person you meet is selling them... Like there's around 50.000 bottles of Narciso Rodriguez for her, BUT DON'T WORRY, there's aproximately 500.000 bottles of same perfume testers! Lol

Bought Creed Green Irish Tweed, Aventus and Bois du Portugal on Fragrancenet -- and returned them all. Maybe they weren't fake, maybe they were degraded from storage, but they were all missing key notes that I know and love from store-bought originals. GIT lacked sandlewood. Aventus was missing fir and leather. BdP seemed all watered down cedarwood. For me, buying Creed from Fragrancenet doesn't "save me money", it wastes good money on an inferior product.

The only issues I’ve had with buying directly from online discounters are also things like damage/broken sprayers. Maybe due to the fact they are sometimes “capless”? Never had a problem from them with fakes or counterfeits. eBay, however, well that’s another story...

If you know how to ask (or if you make a purchase) you can sometimes get free caps from SA's or store managers for tester bottles. Obviously, they have to be willing to let them go, but the trick is to help them bring out their own willingness. lol I've done it with 5 designer bottles and 1 niche so far, and actually improvised caps from different bottles for the rest. Btw, I find Himalaya to be one of the best soapy frags around - a very simple, almost green smell, but with excellent performance on my skin. Santal Royale also rocks!

I have been following your videos for a while now and thanks for mentioning Fragrancenet. I have always been curious about buying fragrances, especially the niche ones, in this site but I have read some negative reviews about consumers receiving 'watered-down' or fake fragrances. I myself don't care much about the packaging as long as the fragrance itself is authentic especially with tester fragrances. I'm still a bit nervous but I'll consider the site again then. Thanks!

I've read many reviews on Better Business Bureau... Many people are complaining of juice that looses it's scent shortly after spraying... And I'm now a victim. Got Savauge EDT and 30 minutes later not able to smell it. Had someone couldn't even smell it on me and they were less than arm length from me and they said it was faint. I'll never buy from online again unless it's direct from the perfumer

Another great video, Sebastian! I've purchased testers from various online retailers with no problem. The only inconvenience is that sometimes, there's no cap. A few months ago, I purchased a Terre d' Hermes tester from FragranceNet, and felt confident about the cap issue, because I saw how the cap was made on one of your videos. Thanks! I'll definitely try Santal Royal and try to find Creed Vetiver Geranium, based on today's reviews.

Follow up comment: Sebastian, I purchased a sample of Santal Royal, based on this video, with a FragranceNet order that arrived today. I wasn't sure after spraying it on, but as it dried down I really like it. This is the first unisex fragrance I've tried. Thanks for helping me to learn about and appreciated different fragrances! Also, in the above comment, I forgot to mention that I keep the caps from bottles that I like, after they are empty, so I can re-order testers without concern over not having a cap.

I personally would not by fragrances from Amazon bc I’ve bought other items from Amazon that ended up being fakes...it wasn’t like that to start, but since they’ve opened up to third party sellers I have quit buying much of anything from Amazon. I have bought some from eBay, only gotten one that I believed to be a fake (could have gone off, but there was definitely something wrong). I haven’t had any problems ordering from discounters; however, be careful with the pricing at discounters. Discounters sometimes hike up prices on certain fragrances that even with their “coupons” are way over suggested retail; just be mindful of that.

Thanks for making this - I'm not sure if my comment was one of the ones to which you referring. Thanks for mentioning fragrancenet and fragrancex, I'll start there (from even a cursory glance they look very well vetted and legitimate). Part of my original concern was that as someone who is very new, I wouldn't even know a knockoff/fake from the real thing (for example if I were buying from ebay), and that mistake would be a little more expensive than just $5 or $10. Nevertheless, if you've been buying for 20 years and never had a bad buy, I suppose that's good enough for me. Thanks again for your advice and expertise!

I'm not sure it was you I get so many of them! Finally the last few triggered it. The video was shot in early September so maybe it wasn't you. I don't trust EBAY so if I buy from EBAY I make sure the source selling the scents are legitimate. If it's a one off person chances are they could be fakes! Hope that makes sense.

Fragrances do go bad only if kept in bad conditions. Some can last decades if kept in perfect condition! :)

When do you buy from the store vs. online discounters? Obviously alot of indepenedent/niche isn't really at the online discounters? Do you have a discount/promotion threshold for in-store/authorized retailer purchase vs. online discounter?

    • @ThePerfumeGuy
      @ThePerfumeGuy  5 лет назад

I buy a lot of niche that isn't discounted and those are purchased from the non-discounters as I love those the most. Most designers and the big niche brands do end up at discounters and I'm fine buying those discounted vs paying full retail if that makes sense?

The only thing I fear, is getting a tester without a cap. I heard that storing fragrances without caps, can basically destroy or water down the fragrance. Great video by the way👌.

    • @cliftonhough5768

Haise Sasaki Caps click in place but are not truly airtight so there will always be some degree of evaporation however insignificant, though if the sprayer is proper then you shouldn’t have much of an issue. If it leaks when you turn the bottle over then the whole thing is understandably defective. The bottles have air in them but are not pressurized so evaporation is minimal unless you put them in a suitcase when you fly, the change in pressure in the cargo hold will make them leak out the sprayer. Ask me how I know. As alcohol evaporates your fragrance would be more concentrated so aged fragrances can sometimes smell stronger then their newer counterparts and lose projection. As far as fragrances going rancid that totally can happen regardless as chemicals can only stabilize oils for so long. Especially citruses. I’ve had two go bad to where you only get the base notes. If you think about any other product with a sprayer they don’t always NEED caps on them. They just protect the sprayer and in all practicality keep it from discharging inadvertently. Light and heat are your major enemies as you know so a missing cap takes a backseat next to those. Just my 2 scents.

@@lilredsensei20 Science is fun. I'm always sad when a fragrance goes bad when you have some left. I never want to part with it. Check batch codes as well. I got a fragrance that was 8 years old and advertised as new. Not so much, got my money back. Cheers mate!
