Wow, great job! Thanks for the video and I appreciate your headliner caution. I’ve seen some big RUclips detailer videos that made me cringe thinking about what the vehicle owner was going to have to deal with a year or so later. Maybe it’s because I’m old and have had to deal with sagging headliners before, but even being careful with the interior trim pieces goes a long way. Too many spray and pray guys out there now.

Great video and info. A long time ago I had bought a used Mazda Protege and got it cheap because it reeked of cigarette smoke, as hard as I tried could never get rid of that smell, I drove it around with a can of deodorizer to constantly spray while driving.
Thanks! I figure maybe tearing the entire interior apart and cleaning everything to the metal may eliminate the odor but not sure 🤷🏻♂️

It looks like it but not really. Just a fine cloth fabric like the upholstery seats.
I use the vx5000 and did an f150 the same level of buildup. Using the small triangle brush head it comes with I was actually able to just spray with degreaser, wrap a towel around the head and steam it. Handful of passes and it was clean. Very quick if you have all the heads.

Yea it'll be much easier to use that head than the single hole one like you had to. Basically like steaming and scrubbing at the same time so probably more than twice as fast.

Have you ever tried a ozone generator? I think that is a nice touch when detailing.
Hi. Yes we have. But unfortunately it doesn’t work well for smoke odors that are this bad.

what chemical did you use for the middle i got a car from my family and my grandfather was a big smoker so trying to get the nasty stuff off that is hard to remove

Hi. That would not be a good idea. Over saturating the headliner like that will dissolve the glue over time and cause the headliner to sag. Just spot hit the headliner with cleaners.
How would you go about getting smoker residue out of a leather shift knob?
We used an APC and damp towel to clean that dirt and residue for leather and plastic components. You can use any APC of your choice, we have been Meg's Citrus Power Cleaner Plus at 10:1

What's the best way to remove cigarette smoke off the ceiling on the upholstery of a SUV?
Hi. So we actually don’t offer smoke removal anymore. We found it very difficult to remove completely. So we now refer those jobs to a local company that deals with interior restoration and odor removal.
Great video. How does someone let their car get into such a state? All that tar, lungs would be worse.

have you ever tried enzyme product or the trick with the citrol degreaser to help with cigarette odor?
I have used enzyme solutions before but they don’t work. Smoke odor is way to difficult to remove with just a surface product. It needs a thermal digger to penetrate into the fabric and foam and into the vents
@@MirandaDetailing yes i agree....smoke removeal needs multiple ways to attach it. mechanica/ly chemicaly removal and some others. But check and try some time the citrol 266 liquid form degreaser, apply it into the fibers...mop up....and then spray again and leave it to stay little damp...it will eat MUCH MUCH of the smoke..........................test it some time it will surprice you

@@marioskosmidhs9454 I buy Schaffer's 266 by the gallon, put it in a Flairisol bottle, mist it into the microfiber towels/headliners/delicate places at 10:1 or 5:1 depending on area. cleans/deodorizes and is good for nicotine
Did you clean the interior of the windshield too ? If so what did you use?
Yes. We used our usual stoners glass cleaner. But we also use a damp towel to mop up the majority of residue. That gets about 90% of the smoker film off. Then clean it without our usual stoners glass cleaner.

Do you do anything for the headliner or use a ozone machine ? I don’t like doing smoke odor interior because I heard it’s considered 3rd hand smoke and can be harmful to breath in :( is it bad to refuse the job?
I tell them that odor won’t get 100% removed because of headliner may need to replace also lt just takes double the time and materials to complete can’t guarantee complete odor removal and that it won’t return ? Would need to Charge a lot and hope they book elsewhere or politely refuse hope they don’t leave me a bad review

So for smoke odor we do not attempt to remove that. we tried in the past and smoke is extremely difficult to remove. we always refer customers to a local place that does interior repairs and they deal with it. It's not worth it for us to even attempt odor removals of any sort.

Today I was asked about 2007 heavy smoke odor and I said didn’t offer that service and referred to a place just like that and then they said they wanted to get the inside detailed anyway? Did not know what to say at that point , so if they say they smoke heavy inside the car you refer and won’t do either ? 👍 how do I word it even after they insist on having it done
If they still want it detailed I simply tell them there is no guarantee for any odor removal but at least it will be clean.
Line 18 and 19 of our acknowledgment form covers odor removal issues also.
How much time you spent on this car (interior cleaning)?
Well we did a full interior and exterior. Totally about 3 hours with the 2 of us.

Aw gross!!! An ozone machine will also help reduce that smell. It takes multiple ozone treatments
