We absolutely LOVE our 2017 Cruze Hatchback...
does anyone know if this 2017-2019 chevy cruze diesel 1.6 automatic engine is on timing belt or chain?????
I I honestly really think it's a good looking car, I just wish it was a more fun car. 250 horses, manual transmission. I mean, I'd totally get one if a 300 BHP AWD version was made!
Aftermarket down and mid pipes, a program tuner , then bigger injectors and if you're not in epa enforced county a cat delete, you can bolt up and program in a day then you'll be getting speeding tickets in no time.
I just rolled out of the dealer yesterday with a Cruze hatchback Premier RS for my wife @ 23k. At that price, it's a phenomenal car. She loves it, but there's no way I'd pay almost 30k for it. P.S., the new Nightfall gray color is awesome.
That's funny, leaning forward in the seat like you're not going anywhere. Car&Driver's test of compact sedans showed the Cruze to be quickest in its class against rival sedans tested.
good to see GM tightening the belt.
I'd take a used impala before paying that kind of money and with the 3.6 you have 305 hp pulling you. Impala are so underrated you can easily get 200k miles on that car. So far I'm at 110k and it's doing fine. Just saw a 2014 ltz limited w 35k miles for 13k.
The Opel Astra won "car of the year" (yes, beating the more expensive VW Golf) and "best towing car of the year" (every towing car is benchmarked in it's own category).
Of course the Astra is kept more premium and the Cruze more cheaply for the best fit in their markets.
Chevy Cruze should not be underestimated
I wish they sold the Astra hatch here. I feel like EU/AUS car market have the best cars. America market needs to seriously catch up.
man, chevy doing great, blows the focus's interior out of the water, class leading size, and if you choose this you can piss off all the Honda fanboys in the comments.
you just said that the F-150 was better than a POS Chevy and now you are saying Chevy is doing great, which is it? there's only one problem, most will choose a Honda over the Chevy

Drinking game:
1 shot every time anyone uses the word "peppy" in a TFL video.
Don't die.
I own a 2008 Astra hatch for a commuter, and I can say, best cat I've ever owned. Everything still works after 8 years. That's more than I can say for the Civic and Passat I've owned in the past. I'd buy this in a heartbeat.
Lol this video is GREAT video! Thank you so much for being a great car reviewer Roman!

looks great!
Chevy should make a Cruze ss with a 275 hp 2.0 turbo and a Cruze ZL1 with a 350 hp supercharged 2.4l i4 engine that revs to 7200 with complementary mean sounding exhaust and seats with firmer padding with leather upholstery with suede accents.
We absolutely LOVE our Chevy Cruze hatchback RS....end of story
i heard Roman demands that there must always be a grilled tomato & cheese sandwitch waiting for him, between takes. Can you say Diva!
This is an excellent year and model of a car
I am definitely going to buy a Cruze hatchback with the turbo Diesel when it comes out, I travel a lot for my business and my other vehicle is a Silverado which doesn't cut it around the cities.
hey Roman what's the soundtrack you ended the video starting 4.40+ , I'm tired of looking for it all over the place
Some reviews are just a press release reworded. Roman brings -perspective and personality-. Ciao!
+1FriendlyNeighbour Roman says thanks for the kind comments. Very much appreciated!
you realize that Hatches are WAY more efficient in every aspect of travel. the utility of a Hatch destroys any sedan on the market.
Once a go-kart, always a go kart.
That opening seems a little small, and it looks as though it has a high deck lid. Couldn't tell from the video--do the rear seats fold relatively flat?
This car is perfect for my needs, but the power from the engine is anemic. I'm only thinking about the diesel because of the 240 lb-ft of torque. Even a 1.8L would give this car the boost it needs. What's the point of 40mpg if I have to get out of the car and help push it to get on the highway?
If Chevy was serious, they would put the 2.0 turbo and add all wheel drive.
I want the 3.0TT from the ct6 in it
***** While we're at it we can just throw their LSX 454R in there
They'll put an LS motor in there if they are serious.
I want a straight ls7 in it.
I work at GM, and I made this recommendation as well + a 6spd manual. At least we've got a diesel 6spd on the way. That's a good start.
Damn you guys were in Pahrump. By any chance did you guys visit the Chicken Ranch?
Saturn Astra 2.0! Love my Astra
I remember the last hatchback I drove was test driving a scion im, it was fantastic and roomy and not so bad price even my advice team liked it. I'm super glad I did not buy it.
Lovely car
I find it quite hilarious that you always hear about how Americans are not so much into hatchbacks and yet the pinnacle of American auto world and the most highlighted auto brand today, Tesla, is a hatchback! So I would say that the hatch has been back in the US for a few years already, people just do not realise that because of false marketing jargon.
Tesla is the pinnacle of the automotive world? LOLOLOL!!!
Teslas are shit.
Videos on the 2017 Corolla anytime soon?
Chevrolet announced on 7-29-18 the 2019 Cruze will a switch/button to disable auto stop.
do a comparison with this and the civic hatchback
does anyone know if this 2017-2019 chevy cruze diesel 1.6 automatic engine is on timing belt or chain?????
Another great rental car!
The only "Hatch" I like is the one on the 1980s Trans am's and Camaros
The Cruze is a well built car with good power and a smooth ride. One of the few cars in this class with a smooth ride. You would have to be out of your mind to pay 30 grand for a Cruze. 30 grand will buy you a well equipped Legacy,Camry, Accord or Malibu. Even with incentives GM is really pushing their pricing.
I am so sad they killed the Cruze Eco that was a fantastic car to drive. It was a 130 mph , 40 mpg, manual , 20k car with a smooth ride and flat handling that weighed just over 3000 pounds. I almost purchased one.
It will most likely be back along with the Diesel.
yeah. 32,000 will get you in a malibu premier. They're being a little crazy with this
fatboy19831 I know it's apples and oranges but $32,000 got me in a 2015 F-150 XLT Supercab V8 4x4...with add-ons and a 100k extended warranty.
Just some more perspective for y'all.
dchawk81 exactly
The estate would be even nicer for a family.
Base should be around low to mid 20k, with the premier and options it's around 30K
1:12 Ah, the first gen Cruze had a wagon/hatchback also...
okay so I'm 15 about to turn 16 would this be a good car for me to start of with or do you have any other good suggestion
I've owned a Cruze hatch w/ manual for a month. It's a vastly different car than my 2001 Sentra manual. The Sentra was tossable w/ perfect gearing for the city. The Cruze may be somewhat tossable once I get used to it & weather improves. Cruze manual's gearing, however, is oriented toward relaxed highway cruising, gears for great economy at any speed 40-70 mph. Shortage of gears for zipping around town though. Cruze is quiet and comfortable at high speeds, Sentra was buzzing >3000 rpm and jiggly. As Car & Driver wrote... the automatic may be the better choice for this one. Its six gears are a different set, more suitable for all-round driving.
wonderful design . GM has come a long way .!
1.4 I'll pass...
it's very similiar to Astra, but previous generation
freaking... how can you not mention the Subaru Impreza hatchback?!?!? it's been around since the dinosaur.
and a much better car
FYI: Subaru does not loan us cars to review, so we have not driven the new Impreza, so Roman didn't mention it.
The Impreza adds AWD and a real rear seat for LESS money. The Impreza also FEELS a ton slower although the 2 cars are not far off.
Plus subaru got rid of the WRX hatch so they are now only offer a dopey hatchback.
Pat Like a screwdriver and a rock.
Needs the LT4
30K, only makes sense if you wait, get a loaded one with several thousand dollars off. 30K would be more acceptable if this came with a better engine. But for 27K-30K you can get a nice CUV.
I drove this vehicle when it first arrived at the Chevy dealer. I'm not a speed demon but found it to be vastly under powered for highway merging. With no more powerful engine available it's not a good choice. Further, with hatchbacks not being popular in the U.S one has to wonder the logic in pricing it $1100 more than the sedan.
it goes 132, which is impressive for this. especially knowing how underpowered it is to the competition. i honestly thought it was going to be 120 or 125
How many minutes will it need to reach 132?
Steve W i didn't come here to talk shit because i don't want my notifications to explode with dumbass nonsense just over a car video
You really know how to express yourself well!
Steve W oh is that right?
Andre's VW Hatch....the 2016 Moonshine vehicle of the year.
30 k for a cruze who would? :/
Most hatches all look alike. In the older days, these were station wagons. Aka, grocery getters.
Whats the difference between a hatchback and a small SUV?
Also, chevy did a great job with this car..i wanted the 2.0L engine though, on the RS package
a hatchback is a not a small suv, that's how you make the difference
CrazyFastRapper Well first off, CUVS have more room, they're smaller than a normal SUV but bigger than a sedan or hatchback. They offer a typical sedan driver a better step into the SUV platform and usability without the size and often horrible gas mileage
Yep, Chevy simps on the engines of cars like this all the time.
30k is way to much for this. You can get a Focus Titanium for like 24k. Start off will be faster in it too, top end Cruze might win. More room in Focus, why the hell would you buy this?
slippyC73 ford focus was named the most unreliable compact car in its class. Cruze most reliable. I'd still take a civic or mazda3 HBO, but the focus is really in the rear
a small SUV is a hatchback with a 2" lift.
Looks like a nice car just so many options for your 30k don't know if it's that hot.Maybe a base model would offer better value and same style? Doesn't seem to have any outstanding quality that warrants the premium . I like the Hyundai Kia a lot, just redesigned, and cheaper I think. And of course the golf ,very highly rated ,just don't think I would go to the Chevy first.
30K was the price I was quoated for a Golf GTI with the sport package, excellent DSG automatic, and a nice leather interior. No way would I buy this econobox over the GTI. Not at the same price, anyway.
What about the toyota iM?
Gotta 17 rs 6sp hatchback , throttle by wire sucks, definitely potential exhaust n intake first...
I would buy it used. Some dealerships will overprice this car like they would any other. I don't think it's worth 30k
available?
If I squint, I see a Kia Forte5 which gets snubbed by everyone....
They're really blowing out the competition but dam I remember when the cruzes were 15,000- 23,999 dam they're are way to much my 2011 LT impala was only 25,000 and it's a full sized sedan with a v6 🙌🏽🙌🏽 how does a cruze, a compact hatch back cost 29,000 😫🙌🏽🙌🏽 how ????? But even though it's all nice but still you could get a Malibu with better gas mileage (premier) for around the same price 😤😤😤😤
Mazda 3 hatch has a better price while looking pretty nice out and inside.
At 30k, I don't think it matches a loaded 3, which has more power, probably handles better and at least as nice an interior.
I'm not that impressed by the 1.4T. I'm renting a 2016 Cruze 1.4T and the car itself is fine. Great handling, buttoned down ride, firm and comfortable, decent room, decent sound system, but a little lacking in amenities. The 1.4 can keep up with traffic fine, and actually has impressive torque on the highway(doesn't always search for gears and can go up steep grades while maintaining speed without downshifting), however, if you want 100% power, it feels slightly anemic. It needs at least 160hp to be competitive with the Golf, Civic, Focus, etc. And fuel economy isn't what it should be. My highway driving and gentle driving style is yielding me 33mpg. That's good, but it should be closer to 40. A focus would definitely be in the 40's...
So... you're saying it needs SEVEN more horsepower? Huge difference, Bubby.
Ford Focus might get 38 on the highway 27 in the city.
Diesel?
Nissan should make an Altima,Sentra,or Maxima Hatchback with more room, power, and more cargo capacity.
Any word on a Diesel Version?
el Cess The 1.6L turbodiesel was confirmed for both the sedan and hatchback. A nine speed automatic or 6 speed manual will be available. There will also be a Diesel RS model. Engineers are estimating 50mpg highway.
Next year. The EPA is, somewhat understandably, slow walking all diesel engine approvals. RAM hasn't even gotten a re-approval for the EcoDiesel yet.
THis car is great for cargo and fuel economy. Why the hell would anyone buy it at 30k though? One year used you can get it for like 18k or less in Ontario, same with the GTI. It’s even less money if you get an older model. Never buy a car new man, let someone else do it for you.
Chevy has lost their ever-loving mind with the pricing of their vehicles. I'm not sure why they think people are going to pay more for a Chevy than just about anything else comparable on the market. It's a nice car, but it's not $30k nice. That's just nuts. Especially when you take into consideration what reliability stands to be like.
29k? haha the Mazda 3 beats the pants off this guy
The original Mentor of this car the Opel Astra is a much much much much better car
Cars 40 years ago got 30 miles a gallon. Today that is insulting.
tostoday they were also much smaller and missing several hundred pounds of safety equipment and body structure. a car from 40 years ago is a death trap. anything modern and you'll walk away from some serious impacts.
Travis Murdock Hi Travis, yeah possibly you would walk away depending on car but I still feel insulted. Just my opinion with all this technology....
30k? Damn. that's GTI money.
Spits out drink* 29k!?! Jesus that's Golf GTI money!
OR... you could get a fully loaded crosstrek, AWD, better combined fuel economy, and about $2k left on your pocket. Seems to me Chevy is trying to sell in their laurels that they don't truly have...
The Crosstrek is a very cheaply appointed plastic bucket like most Subarus.
I'm not so sure about the combined fuel economy, but AWD in the Crosstrek is a solid plus.
Great review! We did a fuel economy test on the Cruze Hatch on our channel. Check it out!
it's a sharp car. I just bought a Toyota im hatchback. the toyota was 17k but has a higher resale and toyota reliability than this cruze.
does he drink before reviews? how can he call that interior elegant? you know this is a paid advertising review.
K.C.'s RC dude chevy has some of the cheapest "high end" interiors. I give it to chevy tho they out do dodge and ford. but to call it elegant is a stretch
you can get a fully loaded Focus ST for 26k
and this is a better car. The focus is pretty out dated
I'm talking about the ST line, not just the regular Focus. I admit this looks great but for the money Id take the Focus ST anyday
Gabriel Aquino I personally would too, but the interior on all focus' is nothing compared to this. That's the main reason it costs so much. I do think they need to lower it still. 30,000 is way too much for any regular hatch
I find it funny that people on RUclips who probably can't afford these. bitch about a leather interior or it ain't luxurious enough. Buy a damn Cadillac or Lincoln or a Mercedes. People who buy these cars are getting it to save money.
still too expensive for a no nothing car. 29K for 152hp? a 16.5 second 1/4 mile? ill stick with a focus.
30 K for a cruze? Mmmmmmmm... nah.
For the same price you can gat a golf gti!! Why would anyone get this what are you thinking Chevy
Ziv Naftali hell it better last as long too..
who would pay 30k for this? gti is less?
"You can't put this kind of junk on a trunk..." but yes, yes you can.
30K for this shit. ill rather get a 2017 civic hatch touring. bigger rims and mpg, more horsepower and space, plus honda reliability
Matthew Gonano kinda like the F-150
people usually buy what's good.
+guy proulx FORD IS THE BEST BRAND AROUND and the f150 beats all other trucks in reliability, interior, build quality legit it really does. also its cheaper than all the other trucks fully loaded. don't insult ford again
justin bouche hahahaha thanks for the laughs
you're mad cuz all the points i mentioned were 100% true
paid 3k less for a fully loaded Focus ST that blows this thing away in everyway. you'd have to be a Chevy fanboi to buy this
29k for this turd? REALLY?
GM needs to do more with our bailout money.... This is like stealing if people pay that much for such an underpowered, underteched car
that interior is totally not up to par with Mazda3 or Civic at 30k
Looks kind of boring compared to most, if not all its competitors. Especially since the new Hyundai GT just debuted.
crap
I'll buy a Honda CR-V over this crap. 2017
CSIG1001 chrysler
CSIG1001 bye have fun
