  • Episode 5 of designing my dream garage takes us into the rendering stage! Renderings of the garage floor plan help tremendously to get the feel for the space before it has been built. Spending additional time designing the infrastructure details now, will save you a ton of time and money in the long run.
I still need your help on a few areas. Let me know your thoughts on the pressure washer wall as well as the second floor layout.

I started this channel with the goal of helping people Plan, Design, Build, and upgrade their garage. I'll take you through the process of building my own garage as well as other garage tours and some product reviews. I've scowered the internet and RUclips for hours on end looking for one single source of information to help me plan, design, and build my dream garage. I was never able to find a single source for that information, so I started this channel to be that one location. I hope to help you with your garage build and after following along with my build process, help give you the confidence to self general contract your build. If that sounds interesting to you, please consider subscribing!
Many people are intimidated by trying to build their own garage. I hope this channel will help take the fear out of designing and building your garage. Garage builds are an expensive dream with many critical building decision points along the way. I hope to help guide you through the decision points of building the perfect attached or detached garage for you!

I called Diggers Hotline this morning to mark out the utilities this morning and they should get here by the end of the week. I talked with the guys in the neighborhood and they are going to work on doing some land clearing. Hopefully get the land all cleared before the snow. Then break ground in the spring.

Dream setup man. Just some observations since you asked for our comments. Personally I’d have a full bathroom upstairs since you mention youd like for a room to be considered a bedroom. It would come in handy when working out or watching movies. As for the location of pressure washer, I agree with idea of a wall next to the garage pay since pulling the cords are so much easier when they are being pulled in the direction they need to face. Would also be a cleaner look. Good luck man, I hope to build a setup one day myself!

Thanks so much for the kind words, and thanks so much for watching! I would love to do the full bathroom up stairs, but unfortunately I don't think I'll have room. It fits best under the stairs and tucked away. If only we had a bigger lot to add 10' onto the building haha!
Yeah, I think I'm going to move that wall over for the pressure washer. It will definitely give it a cleaner look. I think the flow will be better also. My plan is to plumb in a 4 position valve to send water to a boom pole in the garage and a boom pole in the breezeway area. Then I can also have a hose reel for random stuff.
Let me know if I can ever help with your future garage build. I want to see the world filled with more awesome garages! Thanks again for watching and following along with my build. I've got lots more content on the way.

Looking good, congrats on moving forward with the county. A couple observations you may want to consider. The little wall at the man door, you should get rid of that, its only going to make the space smaller. It looks big on the drawing but in the flesh it’s going to shrink. Second, question/consideration, why are you putting the wash bay in the garage? That breeze way is a perfect space, make the front door 12ft to make it easier to get in and out. I’d put the pressure washer and detailing lockers in that space and condition it. Last point, if its not deep enough, consider pushing the back wall back. I think you would really benefit from that being the wet space and the garage dry. Last thing on the lift. Its very challenging to get a car straight when the lift is not in line with the door opening. Again, looks easy on paper but in real life its more challenging. Your car will always be crooked if you have to make the jog over. Consider lining one leg of the lift with the garage door opening. You may want to paint out the space and actually try to maneuver car into the places on a parking lot somewhere, just like laying out a kitchen, try the flow. Good luck

Thanks so much! Yes, the county is a huge weight off of our shoulders. Now if I could just get contractors to call me back HAHA!
The interior will be the winter wash bay and the breezeway will be the summer wash bay. Unfortunately, with me being located in Wisconsin, I can't/don't want to have water on the exterior wall of the building, so I'm going to have to do some sort of Pressure washer wall on the inside. I'm going to need to blow out all the water from the summer wash bay lines in order to winterize every year, but that will be ok. I'm thinking about doing two boom poles (one inside, one in the breezeway).
Great call on the lift location. I'm going to have to be somewhat offset due to the mechanical room space, but I think I might be able to push it over a bit.
I'll be painting the space in the spring to try it out. I've got to get a few trees out of the way in the next few weeks and then I can start paining it out.
Thanks again for all the insight.

@@DetachedGarage Sure thing, any reason why you can’t condition the breezeway? Too many doors, the issue? You are spending all this $$ seems like it would be a small addition. Good luck.

@@R20Motorsports it is a possibility. I’ll have to look into it and see what it would take.

Thanks Daniel, and thanks for watching. Not sure if there will be a C6 in the garage eventually, but we used one for modeling the spacing of the lift and cabinets. How is everything with you?

Does the floor have a slope toward the garage doors? I'm curious what your thought's are on this topic. It seems like most garage floors have a slight slope, but your garage has a lot of functionality and equipment that makes me think a sloped floor would be problematic. I'm interested in your response on this topic as I consider features for my own detached garage.

    • @DetachedGarage
      @DetachedGarage  Год назад

Hey Ben, Thanks so much for reaching out. That is a great question. Some local building codes could require you to slope towards the garage door. For my garage, I will have a few floor drains that will drain to grade. So for me, the majority of my floor will be level and then only sloped towards the floor drain where needed. Feel free to reach out via email if you need any help with your garage.
