Can we take a second to appreciate the fact a dude sold his soul to the grim reaper just so he wouldn't brick. Could you imagine doing all that only to then find out Slash Draw is now limited?
I use to watch GX as it was first airing back in the mid 2000s when I was still in early grade school. I disliked Aster Phoenix with a burning passion because of how he made Zane a laughing stock and even more so because he called out Jaden and accused him of coping his deck which he has yet to debut even though Jaden is known to be using them since season 1. It doesn’t help that Aster Phoenix is a snobby rich kid type of character. His Destiny Hero monsters are tacky and lame too, also don’t like his backstory. To this day I still don’t like Aster and don’t understand how people like him.
Well, your first mistake was going by the dub. They made up a ton of fake dialogue for the characters, and Edo (Aster) Phoenix was no exception. In the original version, there is no nonsense claims of Jaden "copying" his deck. Aster is simply expressing interest in him as a duelist and challenging him to a duel. A lot of his rude lines or jokes about things were dub-fabricated. The duel against Zane isn't as bad either, and it's really more about Zane on the first step to discovering that he's been in a bubble as the school's best duelist and that his old strategies aren't necessarily always going to work outside in the larger world of dueling. Both Aster and Zane are more chill about it in the Japanese version, and there's never any resentment from Zane about losing to him or a desire to avenge his loss. He never even mentions Aster as someone he considers a dueling rival or that makes him feel "alive" like he claimed of Jaden and Jesse. As for the "spoiled rich kid", I don't see how Aster really fits that. While it's unclear to what extent his father's resources may have accounted for in a will or anything for Aster after he died, it's pretty much given that Aster's primary source of income comes from his Pro League salary from how much he wins duels, so he works for his money. And he was also shown to donate a lot of his winnings to poor orphaned children in season four. Personally, I like him because he changed from being dependent on always hoping "destiny" would give him answers and that he was a "chosen one" to accepting that he couldn't do everything by himself and found happiness in trying to help people for the sake of it more like when he says in season three when he helps them escape from Adrian, "Don't think of me as a sacrifice, but just as trying to help out instead". And I thought it was more realistic how Jaden didn't just immediately win him over after one duel or conversation with him wanting to move into his room like everyone else almost. Even after Jaden defeated him, he still took until the tag duel to really trust him and see how him not always being serious could be a strength and not a hindrance. As for the destiny heroes, I think they're cool, but some could definitely use retrains along with Vision Hero Witchraider.
@PURPLE_G0J0 Yeah, the sub is a lot different. Sometimes the dub just adds dialogue for the sake of them being mean and nothing more. The worst offenders of the dub that got "remade" to be jerks and/or be pointlessly shallow or comedic imo are Aster, Alexis, and Zane.
If you are planning to do GX reviews of season 3 & 4 please see subbed with original Japanese. The 4kids way of trying to avoid difficult subjects and fill the gaps with awkward jokes butchers the absolute grim but very awesome seasons 3 & 4. Also the score is just much better and this helps to keep up the tension which is held in the story.
the fact i’m halfway through the season 2 video & they’re covering EPISODE FKN 80 makes me really glad i chose to watch this instead of the series itself. after spending 3 months going from Season 1 Episode 1 of One Piece all the way to catching up to the weekly releases right when the subbed Gear 5 episode dropped, i do not have the patience to watch any shows with this little plot development per episode ever again
That's actually really sweet. Season 2 is such a crazy season to me because so much happens, the society of light feels so lighthearted and there's so many fun filler episodes but we also get awesome duelists like Aster, Hell Kasier and Hassleberry. Nice to see someone who appreciates Season 2.
*RIP to Chazz/ Manjome’s Japanese voice actor*
True.😭😭He was great

@@raina1848 will definitely have to give the sub a watch, your view point makes him sound like a like-able character

Okay, 3 men, a lady, and Syrus 💀
Hasselberry astral projecting as a dinosaur into space just cuz he really wanted to. Wtf was this ending?
I am here for some jaden being judai and my favourite archetype
Jaden and his Heroes are my favorite archetype, and apparently alot of other people's too before meta Yu-Gi-Oh
14:04 Alexis you fool, you should not have stepped up for Jaden; Instead you fell into the trap
Team aqua and the team magma biggest opposition is Ra Yellow 😂
Rest in Peace Manjome’s voice actor 🙏
