- A lot of fancy neighborhoods have matching fancy house number signs and if you have ever wondered how they are made then watch this video to see an economical approach!
CNC machines are becoming cheaper and more easy to use these days. Making your own custom pieces has never been easier and I love to be able to flex my creative muscles and show you guys how make cool stuff! I used HDU (High Density Urethane) to make these signs which is admittedly a more expensive material, but nothing is better with it comes to making signs of this nature. If I learned anything while working on these signs its to make sure you use primer to help avoid issues when removing the masking material...

Thanks for sharing the video. The paint pull up was definitely from the sun. When painting HDU it needs to dry overnight at room temperature. Even have a shop fan blow on it while it dries. Never good to let it dry in the sun.
thanks for the tip! I have moved on from the water based latex and found the oil based enamel with a coat of primer to be a world of difference.
@@CrabtreeCreative A good, high build primer makes all the difference in the world. I still use latex, exterior paint as I hate oil based paints and the cleanup. Glad you found something that works for you.
@@FlipFlopPilot whats a good primer you would recommend?
@@CrabtreeCreative FSC-88WB is designed specifically for HDU but you can also use Kilz or Zinsser from your local big box store. Brushing or rolling it on works best in my opinion. Please allow plenty of time for the primer to dry. Since the HDU does not absorb water it has to come out of the surface of the primer. If you paint too early it'll bubble.
Fellow Zenbot user. Really liked the video.
Thanks for the kind words! I love my zenbot but can’t wait to upgrade in the future!
What was the cost of the Zenbot and what would you upgrade too?
Great work.
Awesome talent, wish you were around my area. I would definitely pay for you for all the signs for my business
Well you should send me an email! I’ve done projects from Florida to New York.

Where do you get you HDU. These came out awesome
Talk about a late reply! I get all my HDU from Harbor sales.
Good video. Is that a special paint you use?
Nothing overly fancy. However, I would recommend something better than what I used. It didn’t bond well hence all the touch ups. Adding a good base coat primer and then a good exterior grade paint like Sherwin Williams emerald or an exterior grade enamel paint and you should be good to go.
Would your process be the same today?
