- The Supremes, the gloriously talented Jean Terrell, the fabulously beautiful and talented Mary Wilson, along with Lynda Lawrence sing and perform "Bad Weather" written and produced by the MAN!....Stevie Wonder (Ira Tucker Jr, co-writer) in this clip from
April 19,1973.
There is some serious Supreme business going on here..........!!!
I love this song and the way Jean appears to just revel in the power of her own voice here. Superb performance on all counts!
Great song! My father wrote this song with stevie wonder and my beautiful aunt is Lynda laurence! I'm so proud to say my Aunt is and will always be a Supreme!
Ira Tucker amazing song..one of the best
Ira Tucker Wow, that’s great, in fact my good friend and I were in competition to see who could get the record first? That’s when we became disappointed with Motown management. Now, we both were young, about 13/14. There was very little airplay, and promotion of this record was like nonexistent? This was important to the millions of Supreme fans since they were nearing the end of this run? Thank you for sharing your connection...stay safe and be well. Alex from LA
@@alexanderirizarry-camarill6277 I was 16 when browsing through the TV Guide that night The Supremes were going to be a someone's tv special. All I can remember about the star is he was a legend and the show was very popular. I brought the 45 the next day every house I played it the people loved it. It should had been a hit. I was jamming it on a a very elite Magnavox console with 12" woofers and asked me "is that Stevie Wonder? I said "yes in a way he's the producer"
@@aaronharris6921 Happy New Year I was a baby when this song was released and the 1st time I heard was when I was an adult and I was blown way with the group's harmonies and the production. Motown should have promoted this song especially since Stevie Wonder had produced it. Even Stevie was pissed at the label for not promoting this song. I have a feeling that when he renegoitated his contract he probably made sure that Motown would promote songs he wrote and produced for his label mates.
My favorite 70s Supremes Song. I saw your dad singing in Philly with the Dixie Hummingbirds. Your aunt has always been Supreme in my mind.
THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MILLION-SELLER.
@Norwin S. I definitely agree,but we both know what happened don't we?
Stevie Wonder was pissed.
No promo
This song is fly. I think the Supremes did extremely well after Diana Ross left.
The 70s Supremes had GREAT material, and they even seemed to enjoy themselves more onstage. It's a shame that Motown neglected them after Diana left. They were wonderful!
very sad.
Marsena Yes ! I have the 70’s supremes anthology and they had some great songs. I wish this supreme line up would do a tour even with Cindy birdsong
Talking bout mismanagement
Yes sir
Well if Barry wasn't sleeping with Diana . . . . things would have been different . . . their first 3 albums were wonderful . . but after Jean , left I lost interest . . . but I still play their music in 2020 . . . .
Jean looked as beautiful as she sounded. I can't deny Diana's charisma, but Jean could out sing anyone at Motown.
What happened to Cindy
@@zacharyboyd5391 Cindy was in and out of the Supremes from 1972-75. After the Motown 25 show in 1983, she pretty much left show biz.
Motown should have honored Jean's insistence that the name of the group be changed to Jean Terrell and the Supremes or she would walk. And walk she did.
IF that's true ,you tell me what the HELL HAPPEN, NO HITS ON HER OWN ,TELLS ME YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT.
@@jackjules7552 keep walking Jean, cause it was never gonna happen.
Mary Wilson - the cornerstone of the Supremes
RIP Mary
Jean is so underrated.....
@Martin Tanksley I put Jean right up there with Aretha and Gladys Knight in terms of ability.
Most young black people were not into The Supremes in the 70's. I used to lug Supremes 45s to parties and give LPs to friends just to give the girls exposure...and listen to NATHAN JONES every chance I got! The Supremes were very popular in discos in 1975/76 and YOU'RE MY DRIVING WHEEL greeted me as I stepped into a private house party one night. The DJ and I played their disco hit all night and the dancers loved it! Diana Ross, Mary Wilson & I will be 70 years young this year.
I love Nathan Jones!
"I'm gonna let my heart do the walking" was also blasting from speakers at the Parliament House disco in Orlando, promoted as the world's largest gay resort at the time.
Yes I lost interest in the Supremes when Jean Terrell left as well...I loved Florence Ballard the most...I wished she could have developed a catalogue of leading songs with the Supremes.
The fact that Jean Terrell was the Ultimate Supreme in Voice style and security..she shared the.Leada with the other members.
That being said. I recently began listening to the other singers Lyndia Lawerance, Susanne Greene and I'm blown away.
These Singers had more talent in that group than all of the World. It's a shame that now time has fled...that there would be no true recognition for their exporsure of underdeveloped talent(s).
Well, at lest we do have the music and videos that they made.
Rest together Flo & Mary!
2014
The Supremes Mary Wilson Jean Terrell and Lynda Laurence sound great, love this.
Poor Mary still a background
@@marcusgriggs4242 she wanted to be the background.
The Supremes Mary Wilson Jean Terrell and Lynda Laurence were singing live, back in the day, they sound great, and they looked great,Bad Weather was produced by Stevie Wonder, loved it
Stevie Wonder is a frikkin A1 genius for writing this song. Beautiful song.
oh my god, i love Mary's enthusiam on this! Go Mary, Go Mary Go! And thanks for the memories-- Supremes.
LOVED LOVED LOVED Jean Terrell!
Oh, Jean Terrell’s vocals give me goosebumps! Listen to the harmony beginning at 1:09. Just amazing! I absolutely love The Supremes.....and thanks for sharing this. Wonderful quality!
This 1 single song was no doubt the start of the Disco classic era. Classic.
This was their LAST hit in 1973....1973 was before the disco era really started more like the end of the 60s era...disco started in late 1974 early 1975 and took off from there.
Damn Lynda, Mary and Jean are fine as wine!
This song was perfect for the time period. But, if no one knew it was out, then there was no one to buy it. I saw them on tv (May have been this show.) and begged my older sister to get it for me. She did!
The record never played in Los Angeles. I knew it was out because it got a mention in Billboard magazine as bubbling under the Top 100. None of the records stores in my neighborhood had even heard of the record much less carry it.
This"Live" rendition of "Bad Weather" is far superior than the recording!
Jean's voice and lyrics come across crystal clear, sensual and playful, just what the song is missing on it's original recording!
I most definitely agree!!!
This was a favorite Supremes song of mine. It ties with My World Is Empty Without You. But it was a different group with Diana in it. After she left it seemed the group grew up and was more soulful and sultry than ever before. That was thanks to Mary's continued vision of the group and new members like Jean and Lynda. Love this live performance!!!
I LOVE Jean Terrell.And Mary, course :)
I remember this song was i was a "lad' growing up in England, i thought it was fab and i still do. It should have been a major hit, and maybe Berry Gordy has a few questions to answer as to why these three talented ladies were not promoted more. Thesong of course has got Stevie written all over it, especially as it breaks out towards the end. The best female band of all time. love these ladies just wish i could get a good backing track for my set, tighten my pants and hey i'm away !
@Jude Fenwick Indeed Jude that was part of the problem along with romance !
FAST FORWARD 2017....... and in a Department Store over the indirect music playing there it was, THE SUPREMES "Bad Weather" being played!
Mary Wilson , incredible x
Jean was amazing live...Back in the days when people had to actually know HOW to sing. SING it Ms. Lady!
Oh Rick, So true!!.. Also, love her in interviews :-) You have class Jean!
Rick Woosley They put any modern day girl group to shame
Agreed!!
Absolutely Rick!
The Supremes in general was an amazing group.
But if they would have got half of the support that Diana got when she left the Supremes' So much more great music would have came from those ladies... Cuz with energy and a voice like Jean Terrell's they would have been Unstoppable. R.I.P. Mary Wilson! You was the glue that kept it together from the beginning to the end..❤🦋
LOL....they SANG & WORKED the hell out of this song!
You tell it CJ !
YES they did! Work Lynda and Mary! Always loved Jean's voice..the BEST replacement after Ross' departure.
CJ's View absolute class !!
My favorite gowns on them!!!
It's exactly 50 years this week since this terrific record entered the charts.
I have to truly "COMMEND " , MARY WILSON FOR trading and working and recording with SUPREMES' That Diana Ross used! Each and everyone was tutored on all recordings that
She just happen too instruct everyone one of the Newest members of the various versions and choreography that proves she is the the Pinultimate , SUPREME!
GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU, YOUR LOVED ONES "BLESSED FOREVER , Always UNTIL YAHWEH PROCLAIM, TIME IS NOW! ❤️💐😍🙏🏽😇🌈💕😁😘💜💝🌺✌🏽🌷🌸👄🌹👍🏽

@BlogShag The Supremes with Ross were together since 1960 but their career took off from their first hit in 1964 until December 1968. (Their farewell concert in Vegas was in January 1970). Mary and the other ladies kept the group going unitl their farewell concert in London 1977. Without taking anything from Ross who was a uniquely talented artist I must admit that some of the greatest Supremes recordings came after her.
The best performance of the 70's Supremes I've seen thus far; Jean actually seems as if she's having a ball - even though there was a lot of conflict within the group at the time. Good stuff, great song.
She can sing BUT she seems like she was a b*tch
I just love Mr. Atkins' choreo. Love they came out strutting their stuff....honey.
The true Divas! They are singing live!
You better come here, he created another new RUclips screen name
"B Hood B Good"
I say NOT!
"B Hood B Ghetto"
More like it!!!!!!!!
it's true you hot you never heard it on the radio but I first heard it in Detroit when I used to live there at one of the disco's fell madly in love with it and still my favorite dance tune
Unfortunately BAD WEATHER got little or no airplay in the US. I think it fared a bit better in the UK.
It scraped the top forty despite heavy airplay and a Top of the Pops performance. A great number all the same
The best! Supremes + Stevie = Sheer class and astounding magic!
It was number one in Washington, DC and I tried to get the program director of the Number One (Black) Radio Station in New York to play it and he lied and said the DJ's on the station played it but the NY audience "just didn't dig it! I checked with the other DJ's and only one of them said they had even known The Supremes had anything new out!
"Someone" stopped it from getting any airplay. Orders were to kill the record.
@@jackanthony976 i dont find that hard to believe
Jeannie Terrell was great, fantastic voice. "Up the Ladder to the Roof" is my favorite Supremes song of all time. But I loved Diana too.
@stage7 she's no match for Jean.......AT ALL! Scherrie has big voice, even beautiful at times, but Jean Terrell has an instrument that is finely tuned and impeccable and beyond comarision! Jean sings so good she can make you cry! LOL!!!!!
Jean, like Diana, sings off key when reaching for those high notes meant for Dionne.
Politics....good to see that time puts everything in perspective. Like Mary said in one of her books about the SUPREMES, "we may not have gotten the promotion we deserved, but it wasn't for lack of talent." So many great singers came through and Jean gave the 70s SUPREMES "finesse" & "grace."......and STELLAR vocals.
This is a great song, I just heard it for the first time today. It's doesn't sound dated and old, it's fresh, clean, organized and well done. I was surprised at the age and who it was.
Bad Weather turned into good weather when I see these soul sisters performed!
WONDEROUS!!!! Jean, Mary and Lynda are in top form. I have to admit I was never a Lynda believer but she and Mary brought a much needed soulful lower register to Jean's amazing riffing. Jean Terrell was a brilliant singer and Motown didn't have a clue what to do with her.
The 70s Supremes "Bad Weather", 1973. Iconic. Rest in Love, Mary Wilson.
A song worthy of their great vocals.
I absolutely adore anything to do with the supremes. Jean terrrell was amazing and I think she was the supremes in the 70's. Mary wilson...... wow!!!
The song peaked at # 87 on the Pop charts despite glowing reviews. Stevie was even mad at Motown for not promoting the song
The record was obviously pulled from radio rotation upon orders from above. Someone did not want this record to succeed.
This is my favorite 70's era Supremes song, and this performance is fantastic!
Jean was fantastic!
She was glorious! Looking back now and then taking into account the female pop vocalists that came and went, Jean Terrell was head and shoulders above most of them!
One of my favorite TV performances of theirs! From a Bob Hope special and after this they sang a medley together about how wonderful Bob was (with songs like I Could Write A Book, Mad About The Boy, Mr. Wonderful) and ended with Ain't We Got Fun. I recorded it with my Panasonic cassette recorder at 11 years old. They're so beautiful ❤️
Fantastic stuff !!! Great post !!! Thanks !!!
At a revisit to this cut, I believe I've played this at least SEVEN TIMES so far! THESE GIRLS ARE "BADDDDD!". I'm enjoying this so much, and almost in TEARS, the immense pleasure this is giving me! THIS TUNE ROCKS! AND THE SUPREMES ARE ROCKIN' IT!!!!! HARD!! 😃
Of all people, I am so happy that YOU enjoy it! You know great singing, the technique and effort it takes being a vocalist yourself. I saw this when it was on television. I even had a very rough, crude copy of it in the 90s. It took me years to find a clear copy to share with everyone.
@@DetroitLives313 THANK YOU for the compliments! I'm humbled! But MAN, AM I EVER GLAD you persevered to find a good copy to share, cos THIS TUNE ROCKS and SHOULD'VE BEEN a SUPREME HIT "OFF The CHARTS!". .. Meaning it Rocked so HARD the CHARTS couldn't keep UP with it, being the BIGGEST SUPREME HIT To DATE! The old ones are so molded into place, rightfully so, but THIS one Could've overshadowed and forcefully engraved the EFFICACY of the New Supremes into HISTORY!
@stage7 CJ! That's what friends are for! I wished we could go and see Mary at Cafe Carlyle in Manhattan in June.
@@DetroitLives313 Me too! Ama who knows? It just MAY HAPPEN! 😉
@stage7 That's the right attitude. We have to stay in touch!
While not a hit in North America, this recording did well on the British charts. What a HOT live version! Thankfully this video clip exists and we can enjoy it all the more today! Thanks for sharing!
To me Jean Terrell sound better live than on the record she is just a great singer
The recording was heavier on instrumental making the vocal less pronounced. I think Motown did this intentionally so it wouldn’t be as strong
Mary could really move!! I can remember seeing part of a show where Sammy Davis Jr. on ( Hullabaloo) Mary danced with him as a young Supreme and they cut the rug!!!!!!!!!!
When I called the Black radio station in Orlando and requested "Bad Weather" in 1973 the DJ dissed The Supremes but played it anyway and was noticeably surprised at how good the song sounded.
Fantastic. The Supremes will leave a lasting legacy of their own music for us all. Another icon gone Mary Wilson and now only Diana Ross left of the original group. I hope though we can have some reissue of the Supremes music of the seventies line up its long overdue.
Mary left that wig behind and she looks great, hair movin all over the place, wig break is good every now and then!
BAD WEATHER.
we all run into BAD WEATHER.we have to WEATHER that storm
together..okay...
just lovely done LADY'S.
please give us our oldies back.we need our LOVELY MUSIC even in 2022 an on an on....ok....
The greatest Supreme song ever. A Gigantic hit in the Disco era. And beyond.
Jean is going in on this performance. She sounds so good.
Supremes Forever!!! 😍😍😍
I think Bad Weather is my favorite tune from The Supremes. It should've been a huge hit for the ladies. This was a great performance from Mary, Jean and Lynda.
Loved the live vocals and choreography.
damn I've gotten addicted to this this is all I watch on RUclips I even today this morning I had to go out on errands I dug out my CD with all of their 70s tunes and I mean I was playing bad weather like a madman the people in the other cars must have thought I was an idiot I was just dancing away I am I just don't know what to say just thank you thank you thank you
Corky Romero I know what you mean I love that song bad weather I got it on my playlist
If you went by me in the street with the windows down and Bad Weather blasting out it would make my day! So remember to keep it turned up just in case.
I am with you on that raremark. These women were something else! The true definition of DIVAS! Extraordinary!!
Class RIP Mary Wilson
This record was released in Great Britain before it was released in the U.S. and got terrific reviews over there which were used in advertising the U.S. release. There is no reason why this record should not have shot to number one. Well, there is one reason. Motown just didn't put major promotional effort into ANYTHING the Supremes did after Diana went solo.
Fantastic record. Should have been a hit.
There's a produce album that Stevie Wonder did on The Supremes with the hit song bad weather Motown has not released it I've heard some of it on RUclips and it sounds so good and I wish that Motown would release this gym that was not released
It is a shame this song isn't a hit because it has that funky beat. The Supremes were riding high during this time all the way until 1977.
Best Supreme's song period!
Alright Now this Lady can sing and Mary and Lynda with Jean look and sound great together. Did this song chart. I guess they did not get the promotion that they needed cause this is Hot, Hot and Hot. Love Jean voice oh my oh my...
One of their best
wow they are killing it!
Just love this song. Makes me feel good lovely music. Not like todays music.
Jean Terrell was an unappreciated singer. RIP MARY
Mary is really feeling this one, isn't she? "Whoo!"
@raremark You GOT THAT RIGHT friend! NObody Moves Like Mary and NOBODY Sings Like JEAN! Those Girls're HOT! And THAT's an UNDERstatement! They are SUPREME! I Keep coming back for this one, because it IS one of the BEST SUPREME performances of the Group!
Superb performance! Jean is giving her all. Mary and Lynda are movin' it good and they all look like they are having a good time.
Gotta give it up to Mary for being a real trooper...❤❤❤
@ Love Yu2 She is the meaning of that Destiny's Child song......"Survivor" LOL!
DetroitLives313
Yup..she's the real MVP... !
"...along with Lynda Lawrence?" I think we can do better for the lovely and talented Miss Lawrence. After all, it was her intervention that brought this fabulous song to the Supremes.
Love that Jean is singing live to the backing track instead of simply lip-syncing. Love this song, and it's a great live performance of Bad Weather.
Jean Terrell! The perfect replacement for Diana Ross. Imagine Florence, Mary and Jean going on trading leads and working he SUPREMES magic!
Food to my ears!
SPINE TINGLE,,,LOVE IT LOVE IT.........
I eat my own words again and again!! I've seen the clip 4 years later and I love it!

this takes me way back into time.....
Jean Terrell is killing it! Better than the original.
Sing Jean!!
produced by Stevie Wonder! it figures , nice track.
I've been searching for this song ty
Stevie had them Jamin frfr lol 🙌🏾
I saw this girl live back in the 70s when she was with the supremes, Oh my God what a voice so underated, she had one of the best voices I have ever heard!
First Class performance!
Hey phurdricktv, what a nice comment from you. Thanks for watching and stayed tuned.......!
I like Mary's Uhhs through out the song and I love the screaming at the end by Lynda.
This performance of weather is how the song should have been recorded!! Jean is absolutely flawless! She is flirty, very girly, playful and sexy as all get out! ...AND SHE KNOWS IT IN THIS PERFORMANCE! This performance shows how even MORE AMAZING she could have been if the underlying drama had not been going on!! These SUPREMES were unbelievably great!!
You are right BlogShag. They had their first nationwide hit in 1964 and Ross was gone by 1970. However it is not how long but the strength of their impact in pop music and American culture. That is why The Supremes remain hugely popular in spite of all the controversies and the fact that three decades have gone by since they officially disbanded (1977). Very unique.
Jean, Jean, Jean! absolutely amazing on this!
I am still amazed that Bad Weather wasn't a hit. Jean sounded better than ever...and so beautiful. If she stayed with the group longer, who knows what success might have occurred.
You could not find the record anywhere at the time. Also, it was played on the radio. You only heard it when they performed it on television. Thanks to Motwn!
I think Motown did not even know who the Supremes were by this time..nor did the general public with so many girls coming in and out of the group.. When Bad Weather was released Cindy had just gone and now Lynda suddenly appears on an album cover. How can you be loyal to a group that can't seem to retain its members. @@DetroitLives313
I love it!
Damn good
Wow! There's some serious supreme business going on here. These three ladies are tough and can really sing. Jean's voice is magical. In short this is the real thing. Some of those pre-fabricated divas of today should watch this and listen closely. Maybe they'll learn a thing or two.
Regarding "Bad Weather" and "Promises Kept," it was not part of that album project but instead was the first track produced by Stevie Wonder for an album intended to follow the Jimmy Webb album. One other song, "Soft Days," was nearly completed. Most of the instrumental tracks for the album ended up on the first side of a brilliant Syreeta album Stevie Wonder produced. Also, the Supremes went back into the studio to redo "Bad Weather" to give it the opening subsequently used in Supremes concert but when that sessions was done Mary learned it was too late as the original version was being released. Mary moved heaven and earth to keep the Supremes going but Motown had moved on to younger acts. In person, the Supremes just got more any more brilliant. There was a renaissance with the album "High Energy," a real work of art Motown did get behind.
